Jan Kim Grumbles: Custom Cake Design

Jan is an incredibly skilled artist who bakes delicious cakes!! My husband and I were looking for a wedding cake that wasn't overly sweet. After sampling cakes from several vendors at a wedding show, we weren't sure if that was possible! Not only are Jan's cakes the perfect balance of sweetness, she also has an incredible flavor menu, including some unique asian flavors! We went for Strawberry Milk and classic Chocolate, and both cake flavors were a hit with our guests. She was so accommodating to my last-minute changes as I scrambled to plan a covid ceremony after canceling our original wedding. We switched from large sheet cakes to individually packaged cupcakes and individually wrapped cookies, and she executed everything flawlessly. I gave Jan some inspiration photos, but basically told her to do whatever she liked, and I was blown away by the design. Each of her creations is so unique and lovely. I'm so happy to have found Jan and would recommend her to anyone looking for a show-stopping cake.

Please make sure you talk about what design you would like with Jan before waisting your time with correspondence and a cake tasting. She will not make my cake because the design I want does not fit her aesthetic.

Jan was a recommendation from a former co-worker, and boy am I glad I got connected with her. My now-husband and I were researching wedding cakes, and everything we had found was just ridiculously expensive. We knew we wanted a non-traditional wedding cake, and after discovering Jan, we just fell in love with her creative and unique designs, plus her prices were extremely reasonable and fit well in our budget. From the very first email, she was professional and responsive. The tasting was so much fun, my husband especially loved it since he was the one doing the tasting :) She also made meringues for me since I'm dairy-free, they were so yummy too! We decided on a completely custom design with our wedding colors for our cutting cake and a couple sheet cakes for our guests, and she even graciously added some meringues in different flavors at no additional cost. We absolutely loved the final product, it looked amazing at our wedding, plus we got rave reviews from all our guests that they loved the cake - even from folks who aren't "cake people". And the meringues were a huge hit as well. I'm so pleased with everything Jan did to help make our day special, I highly recommend choosing her for your special occasion as you will not be disappointed!

Jan was great to work with from start to finish! She patiently guided me through the design process and my husband and I could not be happier with the results. Not only was it beautiful, but the cake was delicious too! After the wedding, multiple guests told us how much they enjoyed the cake. We had three tiers, cascading floral to match my bouquet, with a touch of gold, and it was like a dream. Jan is affordable, without sacrificing any quality, which is hard to find in the wedding industry. You can see the care and attention to detail in each of her bakes. Jan's cake, cupcakes, and cookies were amazing! I got the two tiered full floral cake, and it was exactly as I pictured. She matched my colors perfectly. Not only did everything look awesome (my guests continuously raved about the cake and how real the flowers looked), it tasted delicious.

When I saw Jan's Instagram full of pictures of her beautiful cakes and cupcakes, I knew that I wanted her to be the person to make our wedding cake! Luckily, our wedding date worked for her and we were able to book her. Her creativity and attention to details are amazing. Jan has been my go-to gal for all of my events. As a 2-time maid of honor, I have used Jan's beautiful, delicious and amazing cupcakes in 3 occasions: 1) Bridal shower, 2) YES to a maid of honor proposal, and 3) for my mom's birthday/mother's day party. I was unable to attend a bachelorette party in Seattle earlier this year so of course I contacted the most talented pastry chef I know... Jan! Jan was soooo easy to work with, she simply asked me a few questions (wedding colors, how many cupcakes I wanted, and if I wanted a full design) and just like that they were made and absolutely stunning! The girls raved about how beautiful they were and equally as important, how yummy they were too!! She even offered to hand deliver them, which made it so easy on the girls! Jan is so professional and her artistry is literally the icing on the cake!! I highly recommend her for all your wedding treats!!

Jan’s cakes are beyond AMAZING! The attention to detail, the vibrant colors, the textures, everything is on pointe. I’ve ordered from her for various occasions, bridal shower, birthday, etc. Always extremely pleased with the outcome. Not only is Jan an overall wonderful human to work with, her cakes are surreal! Our situation was unique because we had our wedding in AZ and she packaged the cake in a way that was able to travel on a plane with the help of another friend. Jan was super accommodating and we were amazed that the cake came unscathed and absolutely perfect. In regards to the decoration of the cake, I wasn't completely certain of what I wanted. I told Jan the color scheme and flowers we were using for the wedding and she took off with the idea! My husband and I still talk about how real the floral design on the cake was and it tasted just as good as it looked! Oh my gosh, words can't describe the incredible job Jan does, and if she lived closer, I'd have her booked for every special occasion in my life!!
