small details of our wedding day. On the day of, Joseph was constantly working, and his photos really show it. He captured fleeting moments of my family and friends, full of emotion and laughter. He beautifully captured all the parts of the wedding day, and then some. And of course, we got our badass dramatic portraits. If you want to look like you're in a magazine editorial, then Joseph is your guy! The only bummer was that April couldn't join us for our wedding, because she was at home tending to their recently born infant (don't worry April, we forgive you! :P). But that's ok because the second photographer that they carefully selected was just as professional, personable, and talented as they were. I can't say enough good things about these two. Joseph and April will go above and beyond to get the shot, mingle with your family as if they're one of the crew, and their client experience is only the start to creating a lifelong friendship with them. They simply care about you as people, not just clients. And in this day in age, that's something that's hard to come by. If you made it this far in the review, then go inquire already!

All commutations was timely and informative. We had lots of questions but they were always happy to answer them. Come wedding day there were on time, professional and so fun to work with. They blended in so well with the bridal party, family and guest. We were nervous about being in front of a camera all day. They put us at ease and it was actually fun! The gallery was up with our photos on time as promised. Looking through the gallery was so much fun. Reliving the day through J & A's eyes was really something special. The pictures are just beautiful and tells the story of our special day. We highly recommend J&A Light! They are a truly talented photographers and a welcome addition to any wedding!

heir eye for style and moodier, more dramatic style that I'm able to identify as things that I wanted for my wedding, but honestly, they really helped me figure out what I wanted. They are about as low pressure as you can get, even going so far as to make sure that my husband and I had perused a lot of other photographers just to get a feel for what we wanted, saying that it's usually everyone's first time, haha. They made it very clear that first and foremost they wanted us to make the right decision for us considering all factors, and that our photographer will be with us longer than anyone on our day, and that we need to love their style and their company. We are so glad that J&A Light were that perfect fit for us, we couldn't imagine our day without them. They are both so talented (our photos are GORGEOUS), but just awesome people to deal with. My husband and I loved how they were so considerate of us, our friends and family and all our vendors. We felt they really helped keep the day on schedule, and they really made it a point to get their shots and let us be present for everyone. atic. We loved the way they used light and always seemed to make the people in their photos look great in imaginative photos. We first met them on a Facetime call, and that was all we needed to know for us to book. They were funny, genuine, and we loved that they would let things happen as they are but also step in if it was easy to make something look really great. We loved all the set portraits they made of me and my (now) wife — when we first spoke with them, they told us that everyone was nervous and almost no one thinks they’ll look great. That was definitely us, but as we worked with them on the day of our wedding, we began to understand how they were able to get a range of photos from their clients. We got a great mix of us looking like we’re out of a fashion magazine, stuff of us just looking happy and great on our day as well. Something for everyone! Even though we were absolutely astounded by the set photos they got of us, some of the candid photos of us were just breathtaking, and in some ways we were amazed because even though we were at the center of our wedding day, somehow we felt like we missed so many moments that they deftly captured. During our first chat, they made it a point that their online portfolio over represented the dramatic portraits, and that most of the set will be photos of us and our families/friends interacting, and that truth held out for us. We got what we wanted from our coverage in every way from them.

not.com first for a unique, fashion-forward style that would be distinctive amongst the usual pastel palette you get with wedding photography. J&A Light were just that, just take a look at their portraits! They play with light in any circumstance, and are wizards in how quickly they can find something beautiful in any situation. We looked deeply into their portfolio on the website and on instagram, and found a variety and depth to the work that we loved. We wanted outstanding portraits of our day in every regard and they delivered! The thing was, and we should have known this from when we first met them when they told us, that we were mostly going to get, and what we’ve grown to love the most, was them capturing the emotions of our day. There were so many photos that we had no idea at all they would get from furtive looks from our parents and family to us, just the momentary peaks of joy we had through the day, it was all there. Tthese were not mere snapshots that could have been taken on a phone; somehow the artful mindfulness with which they approached the portraits was in their more “journalistic” work they did capturing the real moments of our day. They seemed to have a special knack for story telling — a big part of our day were our elderly relatives who have meant the world to us. We didn’t want to put any additional contraints on their work, so we never mentioned them (even though they gave us every opportunity to do so!), but there they were. It was amazing to me that they had the sensitivity to pick up on that aspect and really put forth an effort to show the relationships we had with them. I can't stress enough about what they show in their portfolios are just the tip of the iceberg; there is so much more they deliver when they’re actually there, and beautifully. On top of that, they are WONDERFUL people; for as much “sexiness” and badassedness (is that a word?) in their portraits, they are the most down to earth, FUN, people! The husband/wife dynamic is incredible, and they each bring something different to the table. We met them at a bar for our consultation, and it felt like a night out with friends! We ended up having to hop bars a bit because it was getting rowdy at the first spot, but that was a great time just to talk. On the business side, they are great with communication, I can’t remember more than a day passing without a reply. They offered suggestions for our timeline, and I have to say they went a long way to making things run smoothly, but were never pushy. The suggestions were just that, always with a “just letting you know what we’ve seen…” that was great we thought (it’s not like we’ve planned a wedding before!). Our wedding party all said they loved them and they couldn’t believe they made them look so good/cool! They were advocates for us and our day in every way they could be, fetching small things the bridal party needed or holding a bouquet or two here and there in service of keeping things running smoothly. They were our rock, with a special combination of calm directness that played well with all our vendors. If they were anything to our day, it was a solution and guide. Anyhow, in the end, they are worth EVERY penny, we couldn’t imagine our day going as well as it did without them! HIGHLY recommended!

Prior to our wedding, they had asked us if there were any people or any moments they wanted us to capture, which we appreciated so there was no ambiguity. Previous brides & grooms had advised us to make sure we tell our photographer who and what we want to have pictured, and it was nice that they started the convo first. Because they are such easy-going people, we felt like our bridal party was pretty comfortable with working with them, even with all the glam shots we took. We appreciated their patience in working with us since it was hard to keep straight faces when it was time to do so. You can always count on them to make you look fly lol. And through pure luck, they already knew our videographer too, so they were able to work seamlessly with each other. Both were able to feed off each other’s shots and be creative with what each other’s thoughts were. As with our engagement shoot, J&A also knew our hotel and wedding venues, which helped us capture these amazing shots we can’t wait to frame. They get better and better with the lighting, emotion and creativity in each photo. They were so quick in delivering us a teaser of our wedding photos, and all of them are just beautiful. We recommend J&A 100% and wouldn’t have asked for anyone else to capture our wedding.

cticing the "happy wife, happy life" theory ;). However, when it came to photography, I knew this was something I wanted to have an input on. In my mind, I knew how I wanted our pics to look. It is hard to explain but if I had to, it would be described as this; classic yet modern, vogue-like pictures with swag. We heard of J& A from close friends and were very impressed with their work. But we naturally wanted to save costs, so we researched photographers from Hawaii, where our wedding was to take place. We found great photographers but did not seem to find the "steez" I was looking for. I found myself looking for a J&A -ish photographer from Hawaii, without success. We booked a dinner meeting with J&A and the rest was history. They are true to their style but are flexible at the same time. Joseph is a beast with the camera to the say the least. Joseph and April will make all attempts to get that "money shot". We absolutely love our phots. We have zero regrets booking them and are now blessed to call them friends.

aii so I cyber stalked many local photographers for 3 months and I always found myself going back to J&A Light's portfolio. Why, you ask? Well, I couldn't help but compare every single photographer's portfolio to J&A's. I was basically trying to find the Hawaii-equivalent to J&A Light. The only thing that held us back initially was our budget and the 'unknown' of what the cost would be to fly out & accommodate J&A in Hawaii. After reaching out to several Hawaii photographers, including SF-Bay Area's J&A Light, we received quick responses with similar prices. One of the advantages of J&A was that we had the opportunity to meet Joseph & April in person over dinner + drinks to talk about our visual, contracts, etc. It didn't take much convincing at all, we connected and it felt like we had known each other for years. John and I had visualized what we wanted from our wedding photos and how we wanted to be presented; it was J&A's portfolio that really stuck out and had 'the steez' we were going for. Even though it was going to cost more to bring J&A to Hawaii, we decided to bite the bullet and bring them with us because hey, who better to capture the moment than people who can truly connect with you?! Fast forward to now, J&A captured our wedding like no other. We received many compliments to our photos thanks to them. They executed our day perfectly and I find myself looking back at the photos to relive it. Not only that, Joseph and April hung out with us daily and captured our non-wedding moments..just because. To this day, John and I still can't narrow down which photos to put up in our home or what to post on social media. Oh..and before I forget, we were all so busy having the best time in Hawaii that we never did our sunrise post-wedding shoot because, well, open bar. J&A made it up to us by offering to do our post-wedding shoot back home in the Bay Area. Joseph and April pulled some strings and were able to capture photos of us in our wedding attire at the Penthouse Suite of a beautiful SF luxury hotel. *Side note: So glad I had the opportunity to slip on my Galia Lahav gown one last time and get great formal photos in it before sending it off to preservation. John and I are happy that we went with J&A Light and recommend them to everyone we know. No one else compares. Thank you Joseph and April for hanging out with us and capturing the most amazing photos of our family and friends.

Looking through Pinterest, friend's photos, and here on TheKnot, Joseph and April's work stood out as the perfect mix of dramatic, wonderfully out of the ordinary, with a touch of fashion thrown in. We love the city, so asked for that vibe -- they suggested we work in and around the SoMa/MoMA area of San Francisco and even did some location scouting for us! We couldn't be happier with the style and ways they elevated our boring butts into something truly stylish and sexy. On top of being great photographers, they're also incredible people; we loved the entire time on the shoot with then because they're just fun to be around. They take their jobs and your time seriously, always working to maximize any situation, but they do it with a smile and laugh. After the shoot, we were all famished and thirsty, and getting drinks with them afterwards was a completely natural thing with them, feeling already like old friends. We cannot recommend this couple strongly enough, they are truly worth every penny and any time you spend with them, and we can't wait to work with for our wedding!

First, I wanted our photographers to excel at the photojournalistic style of "capturing a moment" - that instinct to know that a meaningful tenth-of-a-second is about to come and go, and the ability to capture it in a way that communicates the feeling behind it. Second, I wanted someone who purposefully crafted the style of portrait they take, someone with experienced handling of light and mood. I can wholeheartedly say that Joseph & April knocked it out of the park in both regards - the photos they took of the prep, ceremony, and reception carried the emotional weight of the moments themselves, and the portraits felt authentically and uniquely "us". They're punctual, professional, organized, fun to work with, and all the other things that you'd want your photographers to be in order to make your wedding day less stressful rather than more so. There's a reason we've recommended them to multiple friends - and will keep doing so - and it's because they're the best.

celebratory (but emotional!) day and Joseph and April were definitely the right choice! We met them once in person while we were interviewing photographers and kept in touch up via email and phone conversations until the wedding about ideas that we had and areas of our venue we wanted to capture (we did not opt for an engagement session). They were easy to talk to and carefully considered and noted what was important to us and what we would need help with. On the day of, Joseph and April arrived promptly and wasted no time taking photos and interacting with our wedding party and guests to capture our wedding day - everyone found them incredibly easy to work with. On top of the photos and locations we wanted, Joseph was on the prowl to find additional locations with great lighting and other great photography elements (see my prior note re: lack of photography knowledge) such that we felt they were very invested in getting us the best pictures possible and not just off of some list we gave them. Joseph and April's editing style is not the most traditional of wedding photo styles (take a look at their gallery), but their style was right up our alley. You don't end up with the raw photos, but I certainly didn't mind (and we were told this up front) because we ended up with hundreds and hundreds of well edited and stylized photos.

ided on a location, date, and concept for the shoot. The day of the shoot we were late due to my fiancé’s job. When we arrived, joesph was in good spirits and was very understanding. The shoot was short of amazing! I loved every minute of it. He made it fun and exciting. It truly was an amazing experience. We received our photos about a little over a week later. They were phenomenal and definitely surpassed our expectations. He was such a fun and amazing photographer. You can tell that they really love what they do and know how to bring photos to life.

It was clear after our consultation that they were passionate about what they do and really cared about what we wanted. We ran long during our engagement session, but they didn't mind. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate with us, but the photos came out looking amazing anyway. On our actual wedding day, they were again professional and accommodating. Like during the engagement session, the weather wasn't as expected, but they were able to adjust for the alternating sunny and gloomy skies and the rain and clouds. They also found interesting backdrops at the different locations, and were able to transform little details into impressive focal points. The actual photos came out beautiful. J&A were able to capture the feel of the wedding with incredible detail. Along with the obvious big moments and all the grandeur, the album also contained very candid shots of us interacting throughout the day, of people laughing and crying, and of little nieces and nephews shyly looking on while hiding behind their parents. J&A provided us with gorgeous photos to go along with our memories. Aside from the actual photography, it was also clear to us that Joseph and April are wonderful people! They're friendly and cheerful and funny and we got along easily -- on top of ideas for locations and poses, they also had recommendations for hit '90s jams for our soundtrack! All said, it was great working with them and they are an easy recommendation for anyone needing a photographer.

One thing they had mentioned was that they normally focus on the female in their photography, but when I mentioned how I wanted it to be more equal for our engagement photos, they definitely came through! My fiancé and I were pretty nervous about going around the city and taking pictures in front of random people, but they made us feel comfortable pretty quickly. We gave them an idea of what we wanted and they took it to the next level. Creativity is no stranger to J&A. Our family and friends who’ve seen our pictures have said nothing short of positive things. As a couple who doesn’t take as many pictures as we would like to, our engagement pictures are ones we really love and enjoy! We can’t wait to work with them again for our wedding!

So it was extremely difficult for my Fiance and I to decide on a photographer who could meet our needs, but when we landed on JandA, they were everything we wanted and more! We needed our photographers to capture our vision for both our engagement photos & wedding...and they nailed it! Our photos were absolutely jaw dropping. The comments we received from our family and friends were incredible; we were told multiple times that we looked like a Vogue magazine cover. As a planner, it was my desire to find vendors that are as passionate about this industry as I am. JandA are one of the most passionate people I know! Response times are within 24hours, consultations were extremely accommodating and meet up locations were always so flexible. I was so amazed by their customer service; for our engagement shoot, they listened and understood our vision for a location - they picked the top 5 locations that were most suitable, scoped out the location before the date, studied the tides of the ocean/weather & sun light for that day, emailed us detailed directions/parking instructions and on top of all that, gave us a check list of items to bring for a light hike/cold weather etc. Extremely thorough! d my “Dream Photographer” I felt could create a magical look for our rather unique elopement plans! I emailed five or six photography studios, each one replied with their pricing lists and beautiful portfolio’s which was very much appreciated…But, the one that spoke to me was from Joseph at J & A Light! Joseph took the time to write me an extremely genuinely sincere reply that knew immediately he was the guy for the job! As I look back now, I realize it was an easy choice for us because Joseph embraces the importance of building relationships in business, and as business owners ourselves, my fiancé and I were struck by not only his business sense, but his creativity and attention to detail from start to finish. As the time for our elopement drew near and with only 20 days before the day, we suddenly went from ‘elopement’ to a full blown wedding! Too many changes, so little time, but my worst fear was that I might now lose my ‘Dream Photographer” because with the changing plans the expenses grew and I didn’t think I’d be able to afford all that and Joseph too! But, I bit the bullet and gave Joseph a call to tell him about the changes and about our plans to include our combined families into the equation! We couldn’t have been more surprised with Joseph’s reply as he congratulated us and said, let’s do this up right, no extra charge! The immense joy I felt almost made me cry; but, my blessings didn’t stop there…At the time we contracted J & A Light, Joseph’s wife April was booked elsewhere, so imagine my surprise and delight when they both arrived at our wedding venue! I just hugged her like ‘ohmygoodness’ what a blessing this is, and look at the overflow of these plans! Review of our photos: Truthfully, on the day I received them, my jaw dropped, they were that good! I knew from looking at their portfolio they made a wonderful team and we’d get some awesome shots, I just wasn’t prepared for the amazingly beautiful pictures I saw before me as I clicked from one picture to the next…each shot capturing the moment in time that can never be duplicated, or so I thought, until I saw our entire portfolio… all 278 of them! I can laugh now, but I warned my Facebook family and friends that our wedding pictures were so good that I was going to post every single one of them! And I did! How did that go over you ask? Well, my Facebook world loved them and raved about how perfectly the photographer had captured Brian and me, as well as those who attended the wedding and the reception… and we even got some great ‘family’ pictures as well, which made it all the more sweeter! Quite a few of my friends have requested information on Joseph and April and I have shared it with anyone who asked. And as I write this review, I look around the room at many of these photos I’ve been able to turn into beautiful wall art; they are everything I wanted them to be and then some to be sure! In closing, I truly recommend Joseph & April, they are not only highly skilled photographic artists, but they also have hearts of Gold and truly love capturing timeless moments for their clients once in a lifetime priceless moments.

Each photo and all the photos together narrate our wedding, and we'll be able to revisit our special day whenever we look at our photos and can share our story with our family and friends. Second, it was a joy working with Joseph and April. They are so professional and put together, so we were totally at ease when it came time for us do our photos. Going back to when we did our engagement photos, Joseph helped us with our vision of our engagement photos and later our wedding, and we could tell that he knew what he was doing . From the beginning, we felt we could trust him, and our trust paid off in our amazing wedding photos. Also, Joseph and April were extremely accommodating to our wedding schedule, which was such a bonus for us. We knew that we had some unique things scheduled during the day, like a tea ceremony, and were worried about photographers that are strict about their packages or charge crazy amounts if you try to alter their package. But Joseph and April met up with us face-to-face multiple times to customize our photography schedule and made themselves available for all of our special moments throughout the day and night. In fact, they caught many impromptu moments where I didn't even realize they were there to take a photo (I will forever treasure that photo of my mom and me dancing at the end of the night). I've already recommended Joseph and April to all my other friends and family that are getting married, and I will certainly be using them any other time that I will need a photographer. Their ability to capture the moment and to squeeze so much beauty and emotion into their pictures is absolutely unreal. My wife and I had the pleasure of working with them on several occasions... for our engagement pictures, tea ceremony, and wedding. Whether taking pictures that are planned ahead of time or shooting candid "in the moment" shots, they know how to do their magic to take pictures that you will want to look at again and again. Their photographs really capture the moment. I can't begin to describe the compliments we've received on our pictures and if we were to ever have another need for photographers, then there would be no question that we would immediately want to work with these 2 again. Joseph has a special eye for cool and interesting back drops, as he ultimately picked our photo shoot spot, which I have no regrets. After that session, I was even more excited for our wedding because I knew they would capture some beautiful moments. And they sure did! We got married two weeks ago, and I can't stop obsessing over our initial shots. Their lighting, style, photo angles made our entire wedding day look royal. On top of that, they captured some of my favorite moments from our special day. Even my brother-in-law said he would fly the dynamic duo across country to PA if his family has a major event requiring their photography skills (they are that good).
