We hired Jay Maxwell’s music by request per the recommendation of our venue as they were on the preferred vendor list. Looking back now and seeing that their most recent review is over 2 years ago and they haven’t posted anything on their instagram in the same amount of time should have been a red flag. But unfortunately, since they came recommended from the venue, I thought all would be okay. I would sum up our experience as just okay. Our DJ was Jermaine (“J”). The communication prior to our wedding day was subpar. The company had gotten multiple things wrong on our contract before I signed it and even after I had already corrected it, it was still wrong. They accidentally sent me another couple’s contract. We had chose to add uplighting to the grand package. But since our time needed for him to play was less than what the grand package offered, he gave us a slight discount, so it evened out in the end with the uplighting. We had our meeting a week or two before the wedding where we laid out everything we wanted and the order of certain things. I felt confident going into the wedding that our expectations would be met. Unfortunately, I was wrong. He did not provide much energy and just kind of sat behind his table the whole night. I was expecting as a DJ for him to energize the crowd and get them excited. There were a few instances where items that we went over in our meeting did not make it to the event. For example, during the entrances to the reception, the bridesmaids and groomsmen as well as us (B&G) were supposed to have specific music we were coming out to. He announced the group and then was scrolling on his iPad trying to find the song that he was supposed to play. There was a very awkward 10-15 second delay of nothing while he was trying to find the song. I don’t think he even played the song we were supposed to come out to. You would think as a professional DJ you would have the music already cued up. He missed a special announcement about my grandparents after the anniversary dance. He played the song that was supposed to be for our private last dance for everybody and then proceeded to tell us and our photographer that we weren’t doing a private last dance. All of these things were discussed in great detail during our meeting before the wedding and were in writing. We were very disappointed that these things were missed. Finally, we were supposed to get the uplighting that was added on to our package and yet, that was not provided. I emailed him a week or two after the wedding to share our thoughts and let him know that we paid for uplighting, but did not receive it. As a business owner, the logical response would be to be apologetic and offer a refund for that service. It has been 2 weeks since I sent that email and he has not responded at all. So that should tell you all you need to know about how unresponsive he is. I know they have multiple DJs in the company. I know nothing about the other DJs and how good they are, but I would not recommend Jermaine. I really hate that I have to write this review. If I had gotten a response and a refund, I would have let it go, but that was not the case.
For personal reasons, I always knew Music by Request would be my DJ of choice for my wedding. The reception just solidified that I made the right choice. Not only did I LOVE the music selection, but I had several guests after mention how awesome our DJ was. The music was so perfectly curated to us, that it’s definitely a highlight I’ll look back on for years to come.
Highly recommend! From start to finish we had a great experience with Jay Maxwell. We used DJ Rhett and Robin for our small wedding in Charleston in December 2020. Everything was perfect and they were wonderful! Donna of Jay Maxwell sent us a packet with some music offerings, timeline and general questions-honestly it was the best piece of planning information I got. 100% would hire again.
A friend recommended Jay Maxwell's to us after using them for her own wedding in Charleston and we are so grateful she did! Their prices are so reasonable, and you're not skimping on quality with them either. Our DJ was so kind and made sure he spoke directly with us to make sure we were happy and our guests were having a good time. Additionally, we were able to select "must play" songs from a HUGE catalog of music based on our guests RSVP write-ins and our DJ made us a CD of those "must play" songs :) Really sweet. Highly recommend Jay Maxwell's!
Absolutely would recommend! My wife and I both love dancing, and not only did our DJ, Mike, have everything down for the ceremony, he had a feel for when to play the dance music and everyone had a great time. MBR is thorough and goes with you every step of the way to make sure the music for your favorite day is on the mark.
Mike Bender with Jay Maxwell's Music By Request was the DJ at our wedding! Mike met with us and took time to get to know our personalities and preferences. He was in constant communication with us as the bride/groom and our planner. We had special requests songs that he incorporated to the night and he kept the party going the entire time!! Great personality and we had so many compliments! Highly recommend! 🎤
This company has made it so easy. Their guide really helped me on making decisions and narrowing down my options. Donna was there from the beginning helping me with any concerns. I was fortunate enough to get Rhett and his wife Robin for my DJ. They were GREAT! They made it lively and so personable. He was my best friend through the music process and he read the room so well, keeping the dance floor full till we all had blisters on my feet. Can't say enough good things!
After a lot of research, we chose Jay Maxwell’s Music by Request for our wedding in June 2019. We ultimately made the decision based on price, and they were by far the most reasonable I could find in the area. About a month before the wedding, we were notified who our DJ was (Kevin), and a couple of weeks before, we met up with him and talked about the music and event timeline. Right away, we knew Kevin was going to be awesome. He even asked what our wedding colors were so that he could wear a bowtie to match! He was right on cue with every song for the ceremony, and played awesome music throughout cocktail hour, dinner, and party time. We had guests come up and ask where we found him. He was very engaging with the crowd and would come out onto the dance floor to try to encourage more people (especially the guys) to dance. I worried initially about how we would be able to handle an exit song at our venue, since the exiting area was not by the reception. Kevin assured us he had a portable unit and could simply move it to the front of the building for our exit and we could have our exit song just as I envisioned. I highly recommend Jay Maxwell’s Music by Request. They provide you with a booklet of songs to help you choose your reception and ceremony music, which was helpful. Pricing was very affordable, and there are several packages to choose from depending on your budget. The communication with the owners was easy, and our DJ was awesome. If you’re assigned Kevin, you hit the jackpot.
So glad we went with DJ Maxwell! The book they provided made the planning process so easy! Mike was or Dj and he was amazing. We met with him prior to the wedding and he was very thorough and didn’t miss any details. He played all the the music we asked and fed off the crowd. There was never a dull moment. Would 100% recommend!
Rhett and Robin with Jay Maxwell's Music by Request (MBR) are awesome! They really read the crowd well and kept the music and energy of the night flowing throughout our reception. They were very friendly and easy to work with. You know you can't go wrong with a company that prides themselves on a high level of integrity and service to their customers. I highly recommend MBR!!
We hired DJ Jermaine for our wedding. Honestly, our experience was a bit mixed. Our experience hiring him was fine (through Jay Maxwell) and they gave us a music book to filll out that really helped us get our reception organized. He played exactly what we asked him to and was a very nice guy. We had two issues though: 1) We had an in person meeting scheduled with him the week of the wedding and he didn't show up. No call or anything - we just sat there for 45 minutes waiting for him. We had to schedule him again and meet with him right before our rehearsal dinner which wasn't ideal. Then at the event he had a slip of tongue and announced the "Father Son Dance" for my now husband and his mom - which was just a mistake, but my mother in law was a bit embarrassed.
He was very reasonably priced so if you are looking for a budget friendly option I'd still consider him, but the meeting no show clouded our experience with him overall.
Very easy to work with and definitely fairly priced! I searched everywhere for a DJ before a friend told me about Jay Maxwell. I was getting quoted prices of $2400 for a DJ in Charleston, however, I didn't pay anywhere close to that and felt as though I was given just as good of quality at the $2400 DJ. Very professional and provides sound system for the ceremony. Overall 5/5 hands down.
We had Brian as our wedding DJ and he was great! He was very nice and super easy to work with. Did exactly how we wanted and everybody had fun! We even had out of country guests who requested some foreign songs which they managed to find and get for us. Pricing is really affordable. I'd recommend to everyone!
Jay and Donna exceeding all of our expectations! Despite never having been to our relatively new venue, they effortlessly worked with our out-of-town coordinator, venue, and the whole team of vendors. Because it was a destination wedding, I didn't have much time to meet Jay in person before booking his services and really only communicated via email except for one phone call about a month prior to the wedding. His planning guide makes the process so easy and any bride can be confident the day will go off without a hitch, even when you change your first dance song 24 hours before the event! When it came time to start winding down the reception, Jay said he would stay all night because everyone was still having so much fun! He played our initial requests and fielded requests from our guests that went along with our style. Jay is the DJ you want in Charleston, no question.
We were referred by a close friend to use Jay Maxwell for our DJ service at our wedding reception. We booked a mid-tier package where the DJ had at least 50+ events under their belt. We met with our DJ Kevin twice prior to our event, once several weeks out to do an initial meet and greet, and a second meeting a week out from our wedding. We highly recommend doing this if you can as it helps breaks the ice and allows whomever the DJ is to get a good idea of what your tastes are. Kevin did everything we could have asked for and was very receptive to our inputs for likes and dislikes. He respected our wishes and ensure the reception was about us and not about a DJ performance. He worked incredibly well with our coordinator at the venue and remained flexible as several changes were made on the fly. Many of our guests commented on how fun our DJ was and how tasteful the music choices were. We would happily use Jay Maxwell again for future events and highly recommend this outfit for your event.
The coordination and communication we received prior to our event was outstanding as all questions were answered in a timely fashion, and there were no last minute surprises. Jay Maxwell's services are an incredible value given some of the other outfits we looked into. We highly recommend completing their initial meeting worksheet and turning the reins over to the DJs since that's what you're paying them to do. We also recommend taking their suggestions seriously as they know the venues and the acoustics so there may be additional equipment needed, as in our case. Again, we were well accommodated with no surprises when it came to the reception.
All in all, if you need a DJ to provide music and help control the flow of your event, look no further than Jay Maxwell's. You'll have a great time as will your guests and your DJ.
We loved working with Jay Maxwell's Music By Request! Donna made things so easy for us by providing a book that guided us through the flow of the reception, including songs to play for each component of the evening. We were even able to use their sound equipment for the ceremony and speeches. Our DJ was Rhett who met with us a few weeks before the event and provided excellent guidance on what would be recommended for the evening. He was able to keep people moving on the dance floor until 2 am! They accommodated our special request for French music, which meant so much to us and our guests who were visiting from France. We would absolutely recommend them for anyone looking to have a great party!
Brandon was our DJ for our wedding on 3-2-18. He did a wonderful job listening to and executing our requests. We had some special requests for timing of certain songs during the ceremony, and he nailed it! He was flexible and very nice to work with! I would definitely recommend Brandon for your DJ needs!

I had Jay and his team as the DJ at my wedding this May and Brian who was the DJ for me that day did a fantastic job! He was so nice to meet up with a few weeks before my wedding to go over the music playlist and timeline! Donna did a great job editing the song I used for my father/daughter dance! Awesome DJ team for any wedding!
This past Friday, we had Andrew DJ our wedding from Jay Maxwell Music and he was absolutely wonderful! My fiancé and I had already orchestrated playlists that were important to us and our families, and he was so accommodating with our requests. He met with us in person a few times and walked through the entire workbook that is provided, helping me make decisions when I was unsure what would work best for our day. We appreciate his energy all night that kept our families on the dance floor as much as possible. I am so appreciative of his patience with me and making our vision come to life! Thanks Andrew!
Great company to work with! Kevin Baltimore was the DJ for our April 8, 2018 wedding and our friends and family have not stopped raving about him. Not only did he listen to us and play the songs we chose he got out on the dance floor and danced with everyone. Our guests LOVED it! You will not be disappointed!
I met Jay and his wife Donna at a wedding show last year, shortly after I got engaged! They both really impressed me with their professionalism and attention to detail - they knew their current brides by name, whenever one of them stopped by their display. In addition, they offered one of the most affordable packages that my husband and I came across in our research, so we moved forward with hiring their company for our ceremony music, ceremony AV (microphones), and reception MC/music. We were initially assigned Kevin Baltimore as our DJ, and our initial meeting with him was great, but shortly before our wedding, he was called away and thus unable to perform at our event! Donna called to let me know the news personally, and Jay himself stepped in to fill Kevin's role. Both my husband and I felt very taken-care-of in that regard, and Jay did a great job on the wedding day - our guests were on the dance floor all night, and he played all of the songs we had requested! At the end of the evening, he also provided us a CD with all of our 'special' songs - processional, bridal song, recessional, first dance, father-daughter and mother-son dances, our last song and exit song. I would definitely recommend Jay's services to other brides who are looking for an affordable DJ option, but don't want to compromise on quality and service.

Mike was our DJ, and he was absolutely awesome. He paid very close attention to every detail, made sure everything was timed perfectly, and did a great job executing the whole thing. He did our ceremony and reception, and we couldn't have asked for a better guy--professionally and personally. Mike cared about our preferences, needs, and dislikes more than we could have ever expected and then honored all of them. Also, the staff at Jay Maxwell's Music was superb; they were incredibly friendly, quick to respond to emails, and super organized. We would 100% recommend this company and this DJ!
We hired Jay Maxwell Music By Request for our backyard wedding and reception this past October. They provided an incredibly helpful guidebook outlining all of the songs you might need and suggestions for common selections. Then, about 30 days before the event, Mike Bender was assigned as our DJ and we setup a call and walked through all the specifics of what we were looking for: a casual backyard bbq vibe. We sent over a list of specific songs and times for the ceremony which Mike got perfect! We also sent over a list of songs we wanted to hear during the afternoon. They played pretty much everything as far as I can tell! It started pouring rain about half way through the afternoon and Mike did a great job of adjusting his setup location with minimal disruption to the music. Overall, we were very happy with Mike and Jay Maxwell Music By Request!
So happy we went with Jay Maxwell as our DJ! When we inquired for information in the beginning of our planning, Jay sent us a song book filled with a million songs and we knew right then that we were 100% going with him! This book made planning our music choices so easy and was so conclusive! We met with Jay in person a few weeks before the wedding where we went over everything--song choices for every moment (cake cutting, send off, etc.) It was so great knowing Jay was so on it, because we knew we didn't have to worry about a thing. The night of, the dance floor was full the entire time from when it opened to our send off. We wish the night didn't have to end!
Jay Maxwell delivered an incredible performance for our Wedding at Wild Dunes in September 2017! We met with Jay for an hour a few days prior to the Wedding to discuss our musical tastes and ideas - then before the wedding I sent Jay an email with additional song requests - and he put it all together to create a perfect evening of music for us and our guests. We, and many of our guests, danced the night away -- the dance floor was never empty and there was something always being played to get people moving. Jay played some of our personal favorites to sing to (which we and many guests joined in on) and he graciously accepted requests from guests that he built right into his set on the spot. And when he night was over, he presented us with a DVD he had developed of most of the songs played during the evening. Additionally, we had live musicians for the actual ceremony, but Jay provided mics for their performance along with wireless mics for the Officiant and others participating in the ceremony. The sound was flawless! Thank you Jay for all your excellent work on our behalf! I cannot say enough about how pleased we were with Jay and his role as DJ and Master of Ceremonies!
Mike was over the top INCREDIBLE! He made everything so special and listened to everything I wanted played but threw in some jams that hyped up the party!!
Rhett was awesome! He truly kept us dancing all night and my wedding guests have continued calling and texting me about how awesome our wedding was! Thank you guys so much for giving me exactly what I wanted and rockin it out on the dance floor!
Jay Maxwell was great to work with! They have a booklet that organizes and lays out exactly what they need in terms of music and the procession of events at both the wedding and the reception. My guests enjoyed the music, and the DJ read the crowd very well! My father even commented on how enthusiastic the DJ was and that he was a great MC. I would recommend Jay Maxwell to anyone looking for a DJ for a special event.
We chose Jay Maxwell for our DJ for our wedding in October. Jay was very informative, professional and affordable. We initially loved our decision as soon as we spoke with him. I gave it 2 stars because we weren't thrilled with the DJ, Rhett, who we ended up with. Rhett was great on the phone during our interview and we believed he had understood what type of music and atmosphere we wanted, but I guess he didn't. We told him that we wanted high energy and for everyone to have fun but as soon as we finished our introductions and first dance he went into three slow songs in a row. My sister actually had to go up on stage and ask him to change the song and put something on that people could dance to because no one was on the dance floor. He also never asked us for a must play or do not play list which I thought was odd because I'd always heard that the DJ will ask for that. I guess I should have been more assertive with that, but due to the stress of our wedding having to be rescheduled last minute as a result of a hurricane, I honestly forgot to ask him about it again. I have heard great things about Jay Maxwell and I honestly think that the outcome would had been different if we had a different DJ.
I am so happy we went with Jay Maxwell for our DJ for our ceremony and reception. Jay provided us with a booklet to fill in certain songs (bride walking down aisle, entrance songs, last song, etc.) to be played and in the back of the book was list of songs to help us figure if we couldn’t decide on song. We met with him about a month before our wedding to go over the song picks we had made. I loved that he played the song we specifically chose for certain parts (ex: original Ghostbusters theme song for bridesmaids and groomsman entrance) to make sure it was the correct version, if there were more then one. He prioritized making sure all of our names were pronounced correctly. The best was when one of our groomsman heard his name and he was shocked Jay said it right. We went over the names phonetically with Jay ahead of time but to see that he actually listened to that and that little bit of excitement we saw in our groomsman was awesome. We did not want a “club” vibe where music was constantly being mixed and Jay was totally great at transitioning to each song as opposed to only hearing 10-15 seconds of a song before it was changed to the next. On our RSVPs we had guests request a song to be played, almost everyone participated and Jay went right along with it! It was so fun seeing peoples’ reaction when “their” song came on! Especially if that person hadn’t been dancing and they would pop right up and just go for it! The volume of the music was also perfect, I have been to weddings where it was just too loud and even the people off the dance floor, were unable to talk to the person right in front of them. Jay was amazing, I wish I had another big party to plan because there is no doubt in my mind who we would hire!
We booked Jay Maxwell Music by Request for our ceremony and reception music at the Cooper River Room in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Our DJ, Jackson was absolutely amazing! He kept everything going smoothly, handled all of the requests (including some Italian music that was not on his playlist), and even got on the dance floor with us. We and our guests didn't stop dancing until the very end of the reception. It was such a fun night thanks to Jackson and Jay Maxwell Music! Highly recommended!!
Jay and Donna were AMAZING! Not only did they provide the music and entertainment for our evening but they also helped coordinate our rehearsal! Jay and Donna were a pleasure to work with. They always responded promptly to questions and were very open to any songs or ideas my husband and I had about the wedding. On the day of the wedding Jay had everyone out on the floor dancing! That portion of the evening was so much fun we didn't even realize it was time to leave! I would highly recommend Jay to anyone looking to have great music and great personality!
DJ Kevin (DJ Multiply) was incredible!! We recently got married on April 14, 2016 and he was more than we could have imagined. Kevin made our wedding so special. He kept everyone dancing, helped create such a wonderful ceremony, and was really incredible!! Thank you for making our wedding so perfect!!
Our DJ was so good! He had people on the dance floor all night and my guests kept talking about how much fun they had. I highly recommend them and they are super friendly too!
We had a great experience from beginning to end when booking our DJ through Jay Maxwell's! My husband and I went to a wedding a year ago and had a wonderful time due in part to the DJ, Kevin Baltimore. We knew when we got engaged and began planning our own wedding that we wanted Kevin to be a part of it. We were not let down! Kevin was so easy to work with and definitely provided a fun atmosphere for our reception. The dance floor stayed packed through the end and our guests had a great time dancing the night away:) Because of the quality of services and the value when compared to other companies in the Charleston area, I definitely recommend Jay Maxwell's! Be sure to ask for Kevin:)
These guys are the best! They take the time to meet with you and get a real feel for how you want your wedding day atmosphere to feel. Never had to worry about them. Which was great! Would recommend them to anyone considering hiring them.
DJ Mike of Jay Maxwell was so great in helping us make our reception perfect. he had excellent advice and tips and was wonderful to work with. The company as a whole was very professional and I would definitely recommend them to others.

Mike was awesome - he did a great job directing our guests when we needed him to (for different family photos etc.), played all good tunes based on the guests "likes" (how much they danced) and he was super friendly about everything too.
He even listened to my specific wants on my ceremony music - where in the song I wanted him to play etc.

Just a head's up, you will have to tell them a few times your details but, I get it, not their full-time job and doing several weddings at once, it makes sense to me!
We are so glad we went with Jay Maxwell’s Music by Request for our wedding DJ! We cannot thank them enough for helping make our wedding day perfect! We met Jay at a bridal show and was very pleased with his quickness to respond to all communications. Mike was our DJ and he was awesome! He got to know our tastes in music and made our wedding reception a ton of fun! Our dance floor was full from the time the music started to the very end of the night! My guests loved being able to request songs and Mike made sure there was a good variety! The anniversary dance was a huge hit that we continue to get compliments on! He also did an awesome job with all introductions and announcements. We would definitely recommend Jay Maxwell’s Music by Request & Mike specifically to anyone in need of a DJ!
So glad we went with Jay Maxwell's Music By Request for our wedding! Working with DJ Mike from out of town was easy (we FaceTimed for our consultation) and his knowledge and skill showed by how smoothly our wedding went. I loved being able to only play requested songs, as we included it on our RSVP card. Mike went about and beyond to find music we specifically requested for our day that wasn't in their normal catalog (our guests loved having Postmodern Jukebox at the cocktail hour!) and we loved getting copies of our songs to keep and play at home. I couldn't imagine using anyone else as my DJ. Mike, Jay, and Donna epitomize quality and customer service...they rock!
Awesome!!! He had us out on the dance floor all night long. He knew just what to play during our reception dinner and what to play to get us all out on the dance floor. He was easy to work with. He did a great job of playing off of our song list and taking requests. He helped make our reception a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend him again. He was also familiar with our venue - the Citadel Beach Club so he had his required Isle of Palms vendor license and everything he needed to fit all the rules of our venue.
We purchased the Signature Package, with Jay himself as the DJ. He and Donna were both very responsive throughout the planning process. Jay was great during our meeting with him and made sure that we had all the details sorted out for his schedule. Jay even became familiar with artists we suggested that he didn't know in order to personalize the music for our wedding reception. He did a great job editing a song for us for one of the parent dances, and all the announcements and songs went off perfectly. Overall, we were very pleased and would definitely make the same decision again.

Jay is absolutely amazing to work with! Mike Bender was our DJ and he did a phenomenal job! He met with us before to find out our taste and what our guests would like. He played all the songs we wanted, allowed our guests to make requests, and created such a fun atmosphere for our reception. From beginning to end we had an absolute blast! I would recommend Jay 100%
Our DJ was supposed to be Rhett. We had trouble communicating with him because he only wanted to use the phone (no email or Skype), and he wasn't a great listener. We were unsure how he'd do. To our pleasant surprise, on our wedding day it was Jay Maxwell who showed up instead (we never heard why), and we had a great experience with him. We didn't have a coordinator or MC, so we were nervous about having to keep everything running ourselves. We needn't have worried: Jay managed the schedule for us, introducing toasts, dinner, dances, and the other things that happen during weddings. When he wasn't making those announcements, he stayed out of the spotlight and played music that kept our small crowd dancing until the end of the night. Jay was professional, courteous, and a skilled DJ and MC. We'd definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a wedding DJ.
I was planning our wedding in Charleston SC from Baltimore MD. I had to pretty much do EVERYTHING remotely via email and phone. We were super pleased with the service Jay Maxwell and his wife provided! From the initial booking, to questions, to the night of the reception. Their process is SUPER organized and sparked thought on my end. I had never done this before but they have experience in the details! We were super pleased with Andy (our DJ). He contacted me several nights before the big day to make sure everything was in order. He played exactly what we wanted. We even rearranged some times last minute and he totally accommodated us without a hitch! We were super happy with it all! Highly recommend this service.
Rhett was amazing. He made our reception so exciting and fun. He was so easy to work with and because of his experience and the Jay Maxwell experience of providing the best, he knew exactly the mood we wanted and picked the best music to keep things going. We were able to provide him suggestions and he matched those with what he knew was best and made an amazing experience for us and our guests. We could not asked for anything more!
My husband and I couldn't be more pleased with the service we received from Jay Maxwell's Music by Request. They were very easy to work with, plus their prices were great! Rhett was the DJ for our wedding reception and he did a phenomenal job! My guests couldn't stop talking about his great music selection and his slick dance moves in the DJ booth!
I was really excited to through DJ Jay Maxwell by request by reading all of the great reviews on the Knot.com and Wedding Wire. However, DJ Neil did not even come close to meeting our expectations. He botched majority of our bridal party’s names, even though I sent him the names prior to the wedding and the bridal party even told him how to pronounce their names right be they walked out.
Communication with him through e-mail was very poor compared to other vendors that I worked with. Sometimes it would take him a week to respond back to me.
I sent him through e-mail the wedding reception guide plan and all of the songs that I wanted played during cocktail hour, dinner and the reception. He never announced when my father was going to say a prayer during dinner, when the bestman was going to give a speech, and when my husband and I was about to cut the cake. We did not even have music during the dinner and when we cut the cake.
On the wedding guide plan I wrote him songs to play during dinner and the song I wanted while we cut the cake. I had asked for a snowball dance for the bridal party to have a song to dance to and an anniversary dance. Neither of those happened.
The father-daughter dance and mother – son dance did not even take place until the middle of the reception after everyone was already dancing. Along with that I gave Neil a list of songs that I wanted played during the reception and half of those were not even played. He played music that I did not even request.
We had a lot of military Col. And high ranked servicemen at our wedding and reception and my husband and I were embarrassed by the comments we got about the DJ.
I highly recommended that you meet your DJ meet before he/she plays at your wedding. I hired DJ Maxwell by request from California to play for our Charleston, SC wedding and did not get to meet our DJ face to face.
Jay Maxwell offers great DJ services. From the time we met our DJ, Rhett, to the wedding day, they made us feel comfortable with their service. We had a amazing time at the wedding and reception. Rhett not only played music, but he pretty much help coordinate the day of the wedding. He made sure everything went seamlessly. We didn't want the night to end. I would definitely recommend them if you want a stress free event!!!!

DJ Dawjr was the absolute best! Dawjr was quick to respond and took the time to personally sit down with my husband and myself to talk about our wedding. He took the time to get to know us and understand our crowd. Dawjr's goal was to make us happy and play the kind of music we wanted and he did just that! Having a good DJ is also so important because it helps the flow of your wedding, and it felt like ours was seamless.
We hired Jay Maxwell based on a friend's recommendation, and it couldn't have been a better choice. We had Dawjr as our DJ and he did a great job during both the ceremony and reception. It was also an excellent value, especially compared to many others in the area for what we were getting. We had a Friday wedding, which saved a little money as well.
It was my husband's one and only job to find the dj... and he found Jay Maxwell. The company was very professional in sending a contract, asking questions to get to know our tastes, and then making sure our event was personalized. We sprung for a mid-level dj (based on experience) and about a month before the wedding, we couldn't get a hold of our dj. 2-3 weeks went by before we were contacted by Jay Maxwell himself (the owner) who said our dj wasn't able to be there but he would come in his place. Technically, we got upgraded to the best dj at the company without having to pay extra :) For being an older gentleman, Jay knew his stuff! We had a pretty young crowd and Jay had them on the dance floor the ENTIRE night! He played every single one of our requests, including a Mother-Son dance song that was so impossible to find he downloaded the music off of You Tube for us (side note: BEST Mother-Son lyrics of all time- 20 Years Late by Aaron Lines!) I have never seen this much energy on the dance floor at a wedding. I know I am biased, but it was by far the most fun dancing I have experienced at a wedding. Guests are still talking about it!
Ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner music was perfect as well! We were surprised to receive a cd tucked inside our guestbook of all of our special songs for the night as a reminder of our special day! I recommend Jay Maxwell Music and experiencing Jay himself, I would recommend splurging to have him personally!
This is a fairly large company but you would never know it. They were very organized and timely. Our DJ (DAWJR) was extremely friendly and accommodating. He worked with us so our wedding day went exactly as planned. He was flexible and attentive to our needs at all times. Price was right for the high quality of service and would highly recommend.
Jay Maxwell's was great to work with. We did a destination wedding so communicated entirely by phone and email, and Donna was great in helping us plan our day. We had them do the music for the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception and they had helpful clear materials that laid out all the songs for the spotlight dances, ceremony, entrance, etc. as well as the order of events and announcements. as well as good guides for song ideas for the planning process. The music was great in setting a lively atmosphere we were looking for. The only reason I had for not giving 5 stars is that despite speaking to our DJ a few days before our wedding and writing it in our guide, he didn't have our first song to walk down the aisle to which delayed the start of our ceremony by a few minutes. He also announced my maiden name instead of my new married name when announcing our first dance (which was also written in our guide).

Jay Maxwell did an awesome job. Very friendly service. They were on top of everything and were good at communicating. Our DJ had been at our venue many times before so he knew exactly where to setup. Played great music and did exactly what we wanted. Couldnt be happier!
The company its self was great to work with. However my DJ was lousy, my music wasn't what we asked for, everything was rushed and my "party" never really got started.

A true sign of a great DJ is when the dance floor is full the whole night; this was definitely true of our wedding. Thanks for everything! I orginally book the Carolina Gold package and was pleasantly surprised to find that the owner, Jay Maxwell, was going to DJ my event. We met with him before hand to go over the flow of the ceremony and the pronounciations, which he did wonderful with during the reception. He kept people on the dance floor and was able to find a Ray Stevens song that was requested. He did a fabulous job! Highly recommended!

I have very eclectic taste in music, so I knew a band was probably not going to cut it, but I wasn't in love with the idea of a DJ...until I met Rhett at Jay Maxwell. He was AMAZING!! I cannot tell you how many comments I heard about how cool Rhett was and how great the music flowed. He managed to weave together classic, beach/shag, oldies, rap/old-school hip-hop, top 40, etc. into one incredible evening. I could mention a random song (the theme song from the cartoon movie Fievel) and not only did he know what I was talking about, he had it on vinyl and played it at the wedding! I am almost certain there isn't a song that he hasn't heard or a version of it he doesn't have. AMAZING from start to finish. Do yourself a favor and use them for your wedding. SO MUCH FUN!!
We had Mike Bender as our DJ and he was so amazing he made everything so much fun. The music selection was incredible and we loved him!! He was easy to talk to and he helped us with transitions to do different things and I would recommend him in a heartbeat!!!

Jay Maxwell really does deliver WOW! Jay came highly recommended by my wedding coordinator, and I can see why. From the moment I met with Jay, we connected over music immediately. Unfortunately Jay himself could not DJ our wedding, but Rhett was amazing. Rhett had his work cut out for him...a bride who likes dance/hip hop and a groom who likes country. Somehow he was able to put a smile on both of our faces! Rhett truly gave our big day a soundtrack, keeping up the energy and getting people on the dance floor. And his voice is low and smooth with a little grit - just the type of personality we wanted. And the music catalog he provided was a huge help in discovering our music tastes, so instead of creating a playlist, he followed the wedding's vibe and really played into our upbeat mood. We are thrilled with Rhett and Jay's professionalism, quick responses in the weeks leading up to the big day, and talent to bring both a little bit of country & dance to our wedding!
We had Jay as our DJ and let me tell you- he did NOT disappoint. He kept the flow of the entire evening intact. He got everyone up on the dance floor, all age groups, and played a variety of tunes that everyone liked. I would highly recommend Jay as part of your wedding music selection. Our wedding was everything last minute including giving our song list to the DJ the morning before the wedding! Jay Maxwell showed up, coordinated with the venue and photographer, and made it all look fabulous and effortless like I'd had a wedding planner all along. EVERYBODY danced, I loved it!

Don't be fooled by cheap imitations and video/ photographer/ DJ combo packages that you see at the Charleston bridal shows-- there is a reason that they are cheap. Jay is reasonably priced and has the experience on his resume! I will be sending all my future bride friends his way.
Jay did our wedding reception at The Creek Club at I'On on December 1. We provided him the type of music that we like and he definitely delivered! We danced all night and everyone got on the dance floor... had a wonderful time!

As an out of town bride, it is always challenging to decide on a vendor because there are so many options. We definitely picked the right DJ service. Mike Bender was our DJ and he was absolutely amazing! My husband and I both agreed he was the perfect choice for our wedding. He knew exactly what we wanted, played a great selection of older and newer tunes, and his sense of humor could not be rivalved. All of our guests commented the music was wonderful and one of the best weddings they had attended. Thank you so much!

Kalib Moyer was our DJ, and he did great keeping my mind off the other things in my reception that did not go so well(our venue's fault). People commented on the good variety of music, and enjoyed the dancing. Would definately recommend Jay Maxwell's Music By Request to anyone!
I was very worried that our guests would not get up and dance. We had a more of an older crowd, but Andy with Jay Maxwell did a great job and everyone had so much fun. I was so worried for nothign!

Kalib with Jay Maxwell was amazing. We had our consultation and we went through everything on the music and timeline. We made a few changes afterwards, but Kalib was totally with it and accommodating. He helped keep the time line during the night along with the reception location and the photographer. The only thing that slightly annoyed me is they got some new equipment after we booked it and a few weeks before the wedding during our consultation they were telling us about the great new equipment, that included an extra $100. We paid it because it was what was best for our venue, but I did feel like it was another one of those "add on" situations, but since it has been added to the contract. They were very great and called us multiple times to make sure that everything would be perfect.

Nick from Jay Maxwell's Music by Request was the DJ for our wedding. He was super friendly and very professional. When I decided to go with Music by Request, they sent me a small workbook to fill out that had questions all about our wedding and order of events. It was a fantastic guide for helping us plan our reception. We met with Nick about 2 weeks before our wedding to go over the workbook and he took lots of notes, asked lots of questions, and made sure he had everything organized and under control. The day of our wedding he showed up plenty early to setup all of his equipment and do sound checks. He did an awesome job working with our musicians for our ceremony and DJing our reception. When we decided to change the order of things in the middle of our reception, he was flexible and able to adapt quickly with no problems. At one point, one of my bridesmaids asked him to play a song that he didn't have, but she had on her iPod. He found a solution quickly and was able to connect her iPod to his system and play her request which was very special to me! Nick was awesome and I would recommend him without any hesitation!
I found Jay Maxwell's Music by Request to be a little inflexible when it came to meetings (you have to meet at Jay's house) and you have little choice over DJ. They were hard to get in touch with--always a middleman. Our DJ Rhett was okay, but there were a few moments in the night where the room would go silent (only during dinner). I'm still a little peeved our "Anniversary Dance" (mainly to honor my grandparents' 53 years of marriage) did not happen. We didn't have a super "dancey" group, so he did well with that, but I wasn't overly impressed. Jay did go over and beyond by editing a song for us, which we really appreciated.
Jay Maxwell gave our guest the "WOW" factor. They were professional and all our guest were so please with the music. Go Jay!
You get what you pay for, that's for sure with Jay Maxwell. Our DJ, Andy, messed up the most important song of the night...the first dance. He started playing the wrong song. Not only was our first dance ruined but the very next dance, the Father/Daughter dance was also screwed up...he did the same thing...started playing the wrong song! Very disappointing. I would NOT recommend Jay Maxwell for your event.

Jay Maxwell's company came highly recommended and I do the same for the next couple. Our DJ was Mike. He was great to work with. The prices of DJs in general seems a bit high.
We got the lowest priced package, so I guess we can say it was what we expected. DJ was very helpful with planning the outline of the wedding. Song selections were not very great for the list we took time to go through and select the songs we like. We get everyone up on the dance floor then play a song that no one knows and everyone would stop. All songs we selected for the bridal party and special dances were all perfect.
Kalib Moyer of Jay Maxwell's Music By Request did an amazing job DJing our wedding! We indicated songs that we liked on the very diverse list provided to us & Kalib was able to pick the perfect songs on our wedding night without having to explicitly tell him, song by song. He kept the party going until the very end, which was important to us, as the party ended on a high note rather than fizzling out. He was also great in managing the flow of the event together with the caterers, so that everything ran smoothly. The music was great to dance to and just right in terms of volume. Kalib was very helpful over the phone for a consultation. He was also very prompt in replying to all emails and phone calls.
The overall service we received was phenomenal. We wouldn't change a thing about having chosen Kalib and would gladly have him DJ another event for us.
