I really struggled with finding a hair and makeup artist for my wedding -- everyone I spoke with talked about how they wanted to make me feel like a pretty princess, which is very much NOT my vibe. As a bi woman marrying a man, I desperately wanted to find someone who would have the right understanding and attitude about my background and not make me feel like I was making a bad choice by going for a more natural look. Jen was all of that and more! Despite being very booked up, she still managed to fit my wedding into her schedule. I was concerned about the distance -- she's based in Palm Desert and my wedding was in LA -- but her travel fee was extremely reasonable. She did a rehearsal session for no charge before my engagement photoshoot, and the moment I met her I knew I'd made the right choice. She's super fun, very warm, put me at ease immediately, and did an amazing job on top of it! I trusted her so much after that one session that I drove out to Palm Desert for a haircut a mere few weeks before my wedding, and was thrilled with the result (she's soooo good with curly hair). She was an absolute gem for my wedding: I felt so beautiful, while still looking like myself. My hair and makeup didn't budge all night, and I felt just as put together hours later as I did at the start. I truly can't recommend her enough!

Jen and her team were an absolute joy to work with. From the moment I messaged Jen, I knew she would be a perfect fit for my wedding day beauty dreams! We met for a trial before the big day, which was calming and reassuring for me as a destination bride. She made me feel as though I was chatting with a longtime friend and I had no worries that I was in great hands! She also was so efficient at communicating leading up to the wedding and made a great schedule for day of. She has a very calming, warm energy too which was perfect day of wedding. She executed my vision of hollywood glam waves that frame the face perfectly. Definitely my favorite hair I've ever had. My bridesmaids and Mother in law all looked stunning and they worked on all of them in a timely fashion, but listened to their feedback and ideas. My hair stayed in place all day...from the first picture to the last! Thank you again, Jen and team!

Jen and her team did my daughters wedding last week. She and all of her team were great to work with. They all listened to what the girls wanted for both hair and makeup - and everyone looked and felt beautiful and were so happy with the experience. Very well done and timely and organized.

hired Jen Martens based on her stellar reviews on Wedding Wire and Yelp and her portfolio pics on Instagram. I was looking for a HMU that did both hair and makeup and practiced more of a natural look. I booked Jen as one of my first vendors over a year in advance of my October 2020 wedding. When Covid19 hit and my husband and I didn’t know if we were going to be able to hold our wedding after all. In July, we decided to downsize our small, 30 person wedding and do a micro-wedding of just 9 instead. Jen offered numerous options if the wedding had to be moved or cancelled. She was always optimistic, flexible, and reassuring in her emails especially considering all of the uncertainty this year brought not only for us but for herself and her business. I felt like I was chatting with a friend that I’d never even met. Jen and I ended up moving my hair and makeup trial several times due to Covid closures but I was finally able to go in and see her in mid-September. We tried a few different looks for hair and I was obsessed with my makeup. I still looked like me, just beautified. She listened to what I wanted, was patient, and always checked to make sure I was happy with her work both at the trial and on the wedding day. Jen was also fastidious about keeping her station in the salon clean. I felt very safe regarding her kit and sanitization practices. Jen was extremely professional with sending contracts and reminders, she worked seamlessly with our wedding planner for scheduling, and was just a genuine pleasure to work with. It was so fun chatting with her the morning of my wedding while she got me all ready to go and I really felt so comfortable and safe in her care. She made my mom and I feel absolutely beautiful! She is an all-star hair and makeup artist and you 100% want her on your wedding team.

I can't say enough wonderful things about Jen. She did my hair and makeup for my November 2018 wedding in Palm Springs, and not only have I never felt more beautiful, but I've also never bonded so quickly with a "vendor" before. She is funny and kind and time just flies when you're with her, but secretly she is working so hard the entire time making you look flawless! It's no mean trick. She also did my sisters' and mom's hair and makeup, and despite dropping a last minute addition on her, made them feel and look fabulous without missing a step. From the ease and organization of scheduling -- she had a draft timeline for the big day almost immediately after booking -- to how she carefully crafted questions to understand exactly how I wanted to look, everything was seamless, thoughtful, and fun. If you need hair or makeup for any occasion, Jen is just the absolute best.

Jen has been my hair stylist for almost 5 years now so when it came time to choose my hair & makeup artist for my wedding, naturally I chose Jen! She flew out to Austin, Texas for the wedding and I knew she would be great but honestly she exceeded my expectations. Not only did she make me feel SO beautiful but I purchased a few extra hours of touch-ups (I knew there would be a lot of crying) and she did an amazing job at being there to fix any fly-aways or smudges from tears! I received so many compliments on my hair and make up and everyone was commenting on how sweet and professional she was. On top of that, she made me feel so calm throughout the whole day. If I had to plan my wedding again, I would choose Jen every time!

Jen is MARVELOUS! I am a local from the Palm Springs area but was planning a wedding in San Luis Obispo. When there was a minute when I thought I would be having my wedding in the Coachella Valley I found Jen on WeddingWire and loved her looks. I did look up MUAH vendors in the San Luis Obispo area but I couldn't get Jen out of my head, I took a chance and asked if she would travel to SLO and she was into it! I’m a very shy person so I was very nervous going into trial but this beautiful lady made me feel comfortable from the moment we met! She wasn't worried when I told her that I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do but she went off of the few things I knew I wanted and she did her magic! Jen and her partner Nancy were amazing troopers and had no problem working a super early wedding day. I give full credit to Jen for effortlessly keeping my nerves down, she really made me feel like I was just hanging out with the girls listening to music and she is super funny! My mother and girls loved Jen and Nancy, they made us all look flawless, I’ve never seen my mother look so gorgeous and I’ve never felt so beautiful, Jen truly blended my hair and makeup perfectly with my art deco style wedding dress. My makeup lasted all day and all night! Jen is a true artist, she’s super talented, incredibly kind and has a beautiful personality, she was one of the best decisions I made for my wedding day. You can see and feel that she loves what she does and cares about how you look as much as you do. Don't even question hiring her, just do it, you wont regret it!

I wish I could give more than 5 stars!!! Where do I start - Jen was AMAZING! Not only is she very talented (and will make you look your absolute best)- but she is sooo much fun to be around and makes getting ready for your special day so memorable. All of my bridesmaids loved their hair and makeup (shout out to Nancy who also came along and did an amazing job on some of the girls' makeup). There is no doubt about it; Jen and her team are the best when it comes to hair and makeup for weddings! I am a local girl from the desert, and I am also a little bit of a picky person, especially when it comes to my hair/makeup. However, it was easy picking Jen in creating my bridal look for my Palm Springs based wedding because she is simply the best. From our first emails, to my hair/makeup trial to the day of the wedding, she was nothing but professional and understood exactly the look I wanted to achieve and was always so accommodating to any changes we had. In total, she and her team glammed up myself, my sister (MOH), two bridesmaids, and my mom. She made us all feel extremely beautiful and happy with our looks. I received so many compliments the day of my wedding and I have nothing but love for such a talented artist. I recommend her to anyone who is marrying in Palm Springs and beyond!

I hired Jen Marten based on some of her amazing reviews on Yelp. I met with her several months before the wedding to do a practice trial of both hair and makeup. She was very receptive to looking through my "inspiration" photos I brought in, and really created the overall look I was going for. On the day of my wedding, she was right on time and did a great job. It seemed to take quite a while to do both hair and makeup so the bride should plan accordingly for this! My skin looked glowing and flawless, my eyes were amazing with perfect fake lashes (which I had never worn before) that looked natural, and she did a great braided updo with my hair. Jen is very sweet and personable, and makes you feel comfortable from the moment you meet her! She is truly talented.

I love how Jen Martens played a big part on my wedding. Not only did she do my hair for my wedding day, she also helped find my dream wedding dress from her previous job at a bridal salon! I first met Jen while she was still working at Signature Bridal and Tuxedo in Rancho Mirage, CA. She was my bridal dress consultant during the two times that I visited that bridal salon. During my visit, she had mentioned that she also does hair styling and gave me her business card. Before deciding to book her as my wedding hair stylist, I had asked her to do my hair and makeup for my company's Christmas Party. She did a great job on doing my hair and makeup that night and it was then that I decided that I wanted her to do my hair for my wedding. Jen is very fun to work with. She's very lively and knows how to mix current hair styling trends with classic hair styles. I had asked her to do that for my wedding: a classic soft updo with a modern twist! She has said multiple times that formal hairstyling is her passion, and it shows in her work! I was more than pleased with her work at my company's Christmas party and on my wedding day. If ever I have to attend another formal wedding or event, or if I just want to get my hair done, I would definitely call Jen and have her style my hair! I highly recommend Jen as a hair stylist! :)

Jen Martens of Sherry Mesa Salon did hair and makeup for my small wedding at La Quinta Resort in early April and she was amazing. She listened to what I wanted, offered great suggestions of her own and I was thrilled with the result. I didn't have an updo but one of my bridesmaids did, and let me tell you it was gorgeous -- and elegant -- while at the same time very young and contemporary-looking. My makeup was flawless. In addition, Jen was also just a pleasure to deal with. Relaxed and fun but very professional. I would not hesitate to recommend her. Thanks, Jen, for making us all beautiful! Oh -- and being a former bridal consultant, she was able to offer all kinds of great tips during my hair and makeup test (not all hair and makeup-related). She actually helped me find my wedding dress (!) and also the best florist ever -- Dave Rohr (see separate review). And speaking of the dress, on the day of my wedding we found a few wrinkles (it was a destination wedding). She called room service for a steamer and had them out like a pro in no time. Over and above her job description!
