I love the way she captures authenticity in her images. The photos she takes feel timeless and will be something you will be proud to have forever. From the very beginning, Jess was great to work with. She replied to emails, messages and questions quickly. She made us feel comfortable throughout the process. We just got back our photo album from our wedding day and we couldn’t be happier. Jess was amazing to work with! My fiancé is into photography and always talked about Jess’ work and how much it inspired him. So as a gift, I booked our engagement photos with her! Jess was so easy to work with, and honestly so kind with everything going on in the world. We had to reschedule due to a work issue and had to make sure there were no COVID rules (since my fiancé and I were traveling up from North Carolina). Jess was always so understanding, especially when I would be stress emailing her about Pa’s COVID rules! Thankfully everything worked out, because she was well worth the nine-hour (one way) drive! She was so sweet and reassuring the whole time! My fiancé and I had never had our photos taken, so we weren’t really sure what we were doing, or if it looked good. The whole time she is encouraging and will make you feel so effortlessly cool. The photos are amazing, and honestly, her work speaks for itself. Hopefully we can have our photos taken by her again in the future!

Jess is without a doubt the right choice for your wedding photography needs. She is willing to work with you, helps to find your vision for the big day, is flexible, and reliable. She helped me coordinate a proposal to my partner and went above and beyond. She is professional, but also feels like a friend you've known for years. Jess did an absolutely BALLER job on the photos. She asked us for very specific references so we could articulate the vibe and aesthetic we were going for and then came up with a gameplan and set of instructions for both shoots that helped deliver that exactly. We were so so impressed. Her photos were stylish, beautiful, timeless, and also cool! (Imo, a difficult combination to nail for wedding pics.) She is extremely talented and has an unbelievable eye for composition, light, and capturing moments. We've never looked so good! Jess was also a pleasure to work with. Extremely responsive, easy to work with, very flexible, and just kind. She made us fell comfortable in front of the camera (as people who are not!). And was also generous with her expert knowledge of how weddings work... We didn't have a wedding planner and she broke down the process in ways that were helpful for making the whole day run smoother too. An extra bonus for sure. Jess is professional and to the point! I have attended multiple weddings that she’s shot. She has a sharp eye that allows her to get the job done quick but RIGHT, so you get the photos you’ll love but you don’t waste precious time posing all day. She is super sleek, flies under the radar, and comes out on the other side of the celebration with photos you never ever saw coming. Highly recommend!!!!

We came across Jess from another photographer's recommendation and could not be happier with how that worked out. My wife and I were looking for someone who could match the feel we wanted at our wedding -- low-stress, easygoing, and fun -- and it was clear from the start that that is just who Jess is! From the first meeting, she was helping us solidify our schedule, how we wanted our photos to look, and what small things we were forgetting (not to mention giving us a great DJ recommendation), all the while completely unfazed by the fact that we didn't quite know what we wanted. She was so accommodating and so willing to go with the flow that taking photos on the day of the wedding felt more like hanging out with a friend. I don't consider myself to be very photogenic, but Jess was fantastic at putting us at ease. On top of everything, her photos are beautiful and captured the day exactly the way we wanted to. From a logistical perspective, things couldn't have been easier. Jess was quick working through proposals with us and payment was a breeze. It is not an easy decision choosing the person who will be responsible for immortalizing one of the most important days of your life, but I can say without a doubt that any fears we had melted away as soon as we had our first meeting with Jess! From the beginning Jess was professional, personable and most importantly, fun! She made the entire process super easy and walked us through every step to make sure we were on the same page. Jess's system is super organized and very simple to navigate in terms of proposals and payments which was so helpful in the whirlwind that is planning a wedding. We also got our photos back so quickly! Jess also sent us a really great questionnaire outlining how we wanted the day to go, which made timing and logistics a breeze the day. We are typically not the kind of people who feel super natural standing in front of a camera, but Jess made us feel so comfortable and eased any anxieties we had. We also did an engagement shoot which definitely helped us get a feel for what our wedding day would be like! In the end, Jess was in integral part of what made our day so special and so fun, and it goes without saying that the photos are absolutely amazing and captured our personalities perfectly! We could not be happier with the experience we had working with Jess for our wedding and engagement photos. The memories and moments she captured were beautiful and moving. It doesn't take more than a quick scroll through her portfolio to see the quality and talent you can expect from her as a photographer. The photos are touching, dramatic, intimate, and fun and thoroughly stylistically beautiful. However, where I think Jess is truly above and beyond is the expertise, advice, and support she brings to the entire process (and trust me it is a PROCESS). With what we learned from her, we could've started to call her a mini wedding planner. She thoroughly understands what makes a wedding of any kind operate smoothly and how to manage the event in a way that feels comfortable to you. She was so attentive and flexible to how we wanted to devote our time and energy, while offering us suggestions when we were stuck between ideas. Words cannot explain how beautiful our wedding pictures turned out. Jess is amazing at what she does and absolutely incredible to work with. From our initial consultation, to the little surprise gifts in the mail, to our engagement session, the wedding day and beyond—everything has exceeded our expectations. My husband and I are not naturals in front of a camera and my biggest concern was looking awkward in all the photos because I felt awkward. Jess made us feel so comfortable and you can see it in the photos. They are stunning. The turnaround time for getting our pictures back was SO QUICK. We got a preview of our gallery 2 days after our wedding and access to the full album within 2-3 weeks. She also sends a USB full of the photos, a few prints, and really cute frame. If you don’t have a photographer booked for your wedding, you should book her now!

We could not have been happier with a wedding photographer. Jess was a joy to work with- personable, helpful, fun and professional, and felt like a friend off the bat. She expertly positioned us for great photos, for both our engagement shoot and wedding. The photos were excellent. Our wedding was in a loud space filled with colorful lights, antique furniture and sculptures, and we were worried that it would be a difficult space to photograph, having the focus be on us and our guests, but she really did a fantastic job. She listened to our requests and executed perfectly, her turn-around time was so quick and her finishing touches were really thoughtful. 10/10 would recommend!!

Without Jess would we even have gotten married?! She is so incredibly talented and hiring her as our wedding photographer was without a doubt the best decision we made while planning our wedding. My husband and I both hate the spotlight and were dreading that part of getting married. From the moment we met Jess we knew she was our photographer, but actually, not in the way that people only say retrospectively. We were so excited after our meeting that we could barely wait until we got home to sign and tell her (we called out of joy) that she was going to be a part of our big day. I found Jessica on Instagram and loved her aesthetic. After meeting her in person and seeing how genuinely engaged and passionate she is about connecting with others through her work my husband and I cancelled all of our other photographer meetings. Jessica was always prepared. She even showed up at our maternity (in place of engagement, I was pregnant at our wedding) venue early and scouted out sites to ensure I would get beautiful shots without having to waddle too far. At our wedding she blended in to get great candid shots but also stepped up to organize and facilitate to keep the day and photos on track. Throughtout the whole process she was professional, patient and personable, including our newborn shoot! I would recommend her to any family member or friend with confidence.

Holy cow am I happy that we chose to work with Jess! I live in Seattle (outside of her typical stomping grounds) and have a few friends that are local (even wedding) photographers, so this wasn't the easiest decision. But after pouring over her gallery of work, insta-stalking, and a phone call to see if she'd be a great fit, my fiance and I were sure. Jess was professional and easy to work with during the planning period. She set clear expectations of her services and like a true pro rolled with all the punches. She helped us solidify the timeline of the day and then worked to keep us on schedule the best she could. Looking at the preview photos I was sent after the wedding I feel so relieved we chose Jess. Jessica was a pleasure to work with in every sense of the word. She made our wedding day feel that much more special. Extremely professional and kind, Jessica truly felt like one of our guests. If I didn't already get married, and she wasn't already engaged, I would propose to Jess right now. I love her THAT MUCH. In all honesty, I didn't even want a photographer. I thought it was an unnecessary luxury. ("Everyone has iPhones to take pics with, right???," I thought. I was wrong. Do not be like me. This is an insane thought to think.) Now, I think booking Jess was probably the best decision we made for our entire wedding. Next to my rings and childhood teddy bear, our wedding photos are my most prized possession. The photos from both our engagement session and wedding day are absolutely breathtaking, like catch your heart in your throat, bring tears to your eyes, make your cheeks hurt from smiling so hard kind of breathtaking. With a career in film editing and a passion for photography, my husband had incredibly high standards for our photog. Unlike me, the photographer was the only thing he actually really cared about. Jess's was literally (literally literally, not figuratively literally) the only portfolio that impressed him. Jess didn't just meet our expectations, but exceeded them, and then some. She was so incredibly understanding, easy going, and just fun to be around throughout our entire time together. She took a genuine interest in getting to know us as a couple and as individuals. By the time our wedding came around, it felt like we were just a bunch of friends hanging out in fancy clothes. The ease and comfort that she brings to her clients manifests itself in truly gorgeous pictures. Each and every photo is a perfect memory, suspended in time, with a beautiful story hiding just beyond. A few weeks after our wedding was another family member's wedding. They had a more traditional photographer. Posing for his pictures was painfully awkward and uncomfortable. I understand everyone's budgets and priorities are different, but I suggest to get an amazing photographer (psst! you've found her!) because your photos are the ONLY thing that last past the honeymoon. Take it from someone who thought a photographer was an unnecessary luxury. Jess is super cool and super talented. I promise you will live with an eternal existential dread of regretful unknowing if you have come this far and still do not book her. Seriously, what are you waiting for?!

Easily one of the best decisions we made for our wedding was hiring Jess as our photographer. On the most important day of your lives, things run a couple notches above relaxed, but true professionals make it known you’re in good hands. Jess and her assistant Kat were nothing short of spectacular on our wedding day, and in the days leading up to it. Jess’ communication was stellar in all aspects of what to expect, making us feel comfortable every step of the way. At the wedding, she was present, never intrusive, always at a good vantage, and grabbed every memory so that we could vividly remember them all forever!

Before getting super long-winded, I should just say, stop looking for a photographer RIGHT NOW. I mean it, you've found her so stop wasting time reading this review and contact her already! My husband, John, and I heard about Jess through a mutual friend. She knew we were looking for a wedding photographer and shared some photos of their engagement shoot--I knew immediately that we needed to meet this amazingly talented photographer. From the get-go, Jess wants to makes sure you're completely compatible in what you're looking for and what she can deliver so she requires a meeting before booking. I didn't realize this would be so essential, but you spend SO MUCH time with your photographer so it's pretty important that you get along. John and I are very awkward people to begin with, and we were concerned about getting professional pictures taken, so Jess suggested an engagement shoot to get a feel for what the big day would be like. It was a great way to get to know each other better, and also made us much more comfortable in front of the camera come our wedding day. Jess also worked around our budget to ensure we were getting the services that we wanted at a reasonable price (but she is definitely worth the money, folks). Jess was super communicative throughout the process and was also very organized. She sent us a questionnaire a few weeks before our wedding day that covered things I wouldn't have even thought to mention (hello, weird family dynamics/drama) to be able to get the best pictures effectively. She also worked as a second day-of coordinator herding our families and gigantic wedding party with ease and joy. We were 10 minutes ahead of our schedule, people! That is UNHEARD OF on your wedding day. Jess and her second shooter Kelly were like photo-ninjas getting shots of things that I hadn't even realized they were present for, and Jess' background in live-music photography made the reception dance-floor photos some of my favorites of the bunch. She got our full gallery back to us in about 3 weeks and sent us a beautiful personalized package about a month later that included an external hard drive with all of our pictures on it. Jess rocks! I am so glad we booked her as our wedding photographer. Jess was so easy to work with. I was a little stressed as I was getting ready for the ceremony, and her professionalism and upbeat attitude really helped me relax before the ceremony (and not look tense in my getting ready photos!). My partner and I had been nervous about doing portraits since we're not very comfortable posing in front of the camera, but Jess had great instincts on when to instruct us vs letting us interact normally and do our thing. When booking Jess, I was also excited that she had a background shooting live music -- I was hoping those skills would be useful when taking action shots of our guests dancing and jamming during our reception, and they sure did. We were really pleased with our portraits and the candid/action photos. Someone had given us the advice to book a photographer you get along really well with, since you spend a good portion of your wedding day with them. Before finding Jess, we went through a few informational interviews with other photographers, and we hadn't felt like we clicked with any of them. As soon as I spoke with Jess, I knew she was the photographer for us! You can tell what a kind and thoughtful person she is, and it felt like working with a new friend. And since I am such a "Type A" person, I appreciated that she was so on top of all the little details throughout the planning process and after the wedding. The same night, after the reception, she texted us a sneak peak of a few photos, and she let us know during our honeymoon that she had begun editing our photos and that they turned out well. We really appreciated that! Our wedding photos turned out beautifully and looked natural. We were so happy that our photos reflected our memories and emotions from our wedding day. I highly recommend booking Jess. She was wonderful to work with, from beginning to end, and I wouldn't hesitate to hire her again next time I'm in need of a photographer!

Jess did a really great job photographing our wedding (as well as our engagement shoot!). She organized all the formal portraits we wanted, including some that involved an absurd amount of people, and they came out great. And the candid shots were pretty much magical. She was a pleasure to work with and spend our wedding day with. We would absolutely recommend her to anyone we know.

We hired Jess for our wedding in May 2017 after she was the photographer for my brother's wedding in May 2016 - she had done a great job there so we were confident she was right for us. My husband and I are not great at being in front of a camera (we only have a handful of photos after 10 years of dating) and both don't like being the center of attention so decided to do an engagement shoot with Jess to practice. She did a great job at making us relax and have fun and came out with some great pictures. Wedding day - Jess and her second shooter got to my parent's house (where the reception was held) early and were ready to go. We then headed to the church where they helped out as needed (including putting boutiers on the ushers). Jess kept a low profile in the church while still getting great shots. We walked from the church to my parents house to take our wedding photos and kill some time before cocktail hour - Jess picked some great spots along the way and we have some awesome pictures of us in the town we both grew up in. And some pictures of goats :) Throughout the reception Jess and her 2nd shooter checked in with us, made sure we got the pictures we wanted, and made themselves available to anyone that wanted group shots or family photos. We had discussed photos and the timeline days before the wedding so day of Jess worked directly with the DJ, caterer, etc to be where she needed to be for photos and leave us to enjoy the madness that was our wedding day. After the wedding - Jess had photos posted online for me to download about 2 weeks later and provided prints and a thumb drive shortly after. Overall - Jess was great! She knew what she was doing, was responsive to our requests but took charge when needed, and had great energy.

Jess did an incredible job, I could not recommend her more! She totally got what we wanted -- capturing both classic and silly portraits -- and helped me feel at ease with being photographed all day. We have gotten endless positive feedback on how beautiful our wedding photos are. Jess was a delight to work with and captured both beautiful and also fun snapshots of our getting ready, our ceremony, and reception.

We found Jess by searching for a photographer last year when we were trying to find someone to capture one of the biggest days of our lives! We came across Jess Flynn from a friend who had nothing but great things to say about, Jess. My (now) husband being skeptical about the wedding industry and vendors was not sold when I told him I found us a photography. His recommendation was to meet with Jess first and price out some others before signing a contract. To make him happy, I did. After that, (as I knew this would happen) we went with Jess! First, she is so easy to talk to. Her presence is welcoming, warm and she’s so funny. I am not too creative with my camera, unless you count my iPhone 6, so having Jess to guide the conversation and give us direction was exactly what we needed. We were persistent about not doing pictures during cocktail hour however I am SO happy we took the 15 minutes Jess asked for to do these, because we got some of our best pictures during this time. She knows her stuff and the lightening was awesome during that golden hour. She was SO wonderful to work with, efficient, professional, and super understanding. Jess also captured our engagement party and rehearsal dinner! These pictures are amazing and I would highly recommend hiring her for more than just your wedding day! One of the best decisions we made while planning our wedding this past March was hiring Jessica Flynn and Sugar Year Photography for our wedding day. We are not fans of taking a lot of photos of ourselves and weren't interested in anything formal or staged. We wanted candid and natural photos of us using our Brooklyn neighborhood where everything was taking place as the backdrop. Already familiar with Jessica's music photography and from a mutual friends' wedding Sugar Year was on our short list after researching a ton of Brooklyn/NY based photographers. Jessica was kind enough to answer all questions we had throughout our decision making process. She offered different packages with reasonable pricing and extras depending our wants and budget. There was no charge for travel to Brooklyn even though Sugar Year is based out of Philadelphia. After our first chat we felt that Jessica was the perfect photographer for us. We had a great rapport from the beginning and she offered her expertise every step of the way. She had a game plan, tentative timeline, and suggested having a 2nd shooter to cover all the shots based on the size / scale of our wedding; all for an affordable cost. She was able to accommodate all requests, including taking Polaroids just for us, managed our large and complicated family, and understood our esthetic. We were even able to add on Sugar Year's Photo Booth services for a great price compared to ones from other companies. Working with Jessica and DJ (our 2nd photographer) was one of the best parts of the entire day for us, they we both so much fun, kept us relaxed and laughing with dad jokes! After our first look we just hung out with them, walking around the neighborhood, smoking cigarettes and chatting along the way; it helped us feel so chill before the wedding. It did not occur to us in the planning stages, but you spend almost the entire day with your wedding photographers so you want to like them as people. Jessica and DJ were great and made us feel so comfortable like we were hanging out with two friends who just so happened to be taking photos of us. Not to mention how great all the photos came out! Throughout the day they would show us shots as we went and even texted us some amazing photos before we even headed down the alter. They have such a creative eye and the photos look like they could be in a magazine. The photo booth was awesome and one of the biggest hits of the night for our guests. The photos were shared a day or two after the wedding which allowed everyone to relive the night again in its glory! Our proofs and Poloroids were scanned and ready to share in probably less than a week and we loved almost every photo. They got so many different and interesting shots from every angle covering all details and elements we planned for our wedding. They were attentive throughout the reception and covered every moment of the evening and got some great photos of our surprise Mr. Met appearance. One of the highlights of the night was dancing with Jessica when the classic "Come On Elieen" came on as per her request. We had so much fun and it something that we will remember every time we hear that song. We cannot recommend Sugar Year and Jessica Flynn enough for anyone's special day photography needs. My husband and I have never looked cooler than on our wedding day in our leather jackets walking down an abandoned alleyway hand in hand all thanks to Sugar Year!

Sugar Year was amazing! Jess was extremely responsive at ALL times leading up to our wedding. She really did her research and picked out the perfect spots for our portraits. She really made the portraits with our bridal party and families very easy and was able to get through all of them in a short amount of time. Her candids throughout the day/night and our ceremony were beautiful. She really captured the day perfectly. We still get TONS of compliments on our photos. I've since referred her to quite a few people, including my sister!

The best decision I made while planning my wedding was booking Sugar Year. Jess did our wedding back in 2013 before she had much of a portfolio but the moment I met her I immediately trusted she would do the best job. AND THEN SHE DID!! Our photos are amazing. Her ability to capture moments as they happen is wonderful. My favorite pictures from our wedding are us and our guest just naturally, in the moment, having the best time. The pictures of our guests on the dance floor were so good that we actually have them out as thank you gifts. Multiple guests at our wedding and people who have seen my photos have since booked Jess for their own weddings because she did such a fantastic job. I would (and have many times!) recommended Jess and Sugar Year to anyone planning a wedding!

Sugar Year was great to work with from start to finish. My husband had worked with one of their photographers previously while on tour with a band so we knew we were going to get great action shots with a wonderfully personal and intimate feel. Our photographer arrived at our hotel sweet right on time for the 'getting ready' pictures and took so many wonderful photos from the moment she entered the room till she left at the end of the reception. Everything was sent to us digitally within a week of the wedding, which we easily downloaded and stored on a flash-drive for making prints. We also decided to commission our photographer to put together our wedding photo album, which turned out great. I wish I could have Sugar Year photograph EVERY special moment of our lives, not just our wedding day, because they are the best of the best. <3

Where do I even start? I would highly highly recommend Sugar Year to anyone and everyone that is looking for the perfect wedding photographer to capture one of the most special days of their life. Jess was a delight to work with throughout the planning process, as well as, on the big day itself. She traveled a considerable distance to be apart of our day which meant a lot to my husband and I. Every time I look at our photos I feel like I am back in that day in those special moments; We took our standard photos with family and the wedding party which were perfect but it was her ability to capture the candid moments, not just of us but of our guests too, that make her an incredible photographer. I could not have been more impressed with the quality of every single picture that was taken. I still get compliments on a regular basis on how beautiful our pictures came out and we have been married almost two years. I should also note that the turnaround time from our wedding to when we got our proofs was insanely fast - i think it was under 3 weeks. Again, I can't say it enough, I would (and do) recommend Sugar Year to anyone who is looking for a wedding photographer!

We could not imagine what out wedding day would be like without Jess there. She is extremely talented, professional, efficient, friendly, and most importantly a pleasure to be around! We started with a meeting where she very clearly outlined the process and answered all the questions we had (which we had a lot of!), making us feel completely relaxed. We then followed up with a laid back engagement photo session, hitting a combination of locations we thought of and clever spaces she came up with (she had no problem hopping in our car and whipping around the city with us). Our edited photos came back super quick and we were so happy with them. They were lighthearted, cute and exactly what we wanted. When it came to the day of the wedding, Jess (and her wonderful assistant Emily) were at our hotel right on time and split up to cover the bride and groom's rooms. They made us both feel completely comfortable while they expertly got coverage of the getting ready process, both very unassuming, and were a pleasure hang out with. I am particularly awkward when it comes to posed photos, but Jess made the process easy and enjoyable. We then headed outside to a very busy city hall and got beautiful "first look" photos with ease. We were originally skeptical about doing such staged photos, but she assured us it would be worth it, and it certainly was! Once we arrived at the venue, Jess was able to organize all of the "posed family photos" very efficiently and this wasn't easy because we have a lot of family. But we got through it in no time and they came out beautifully. During the ceremony, Jess and Emily got amazing coverage without us or any of the guests noticing they were there. We chose not to have any video of the service and we are happy we didn't - because the pictures covered it all. They managed to capture the room beautifully and didn't miss any moments. The best photos of the evening all came from the reception! Jess captured all of our family and friends beautifully, completely candidly, and really showcased how much fun everyone was having. Nearly all of our guests have been able to proudly display photos of themselves from the wedding on their Facebook/Instragram. Everyone was commenting on how little Jessica's presence was felt but she managed to be in 100 places at once. They became part of the party and only made it that much better. Receiving all of our wedding photos (the turnaround was speedy!) was one of our favorite moments of the entire wedding process. They were edited consistently, and Jess was happy to make any changes we required - but she did such a good job we didn't need to change anything! We cannot stress enough how much of a pleasure it was working with Jess. Not one of our 800 photos look awkward or staged, but completely natural and magazine-esq. From seeing other couple's experiences with weddings, we have seen how easy it can be to end up with a photographer who orders everyone around and only produces "pose-y" awkward photos, but Jess was the polar opposite. We've already had guests from our wedding hire her after the experience and I know for sure that they will not be the last!!

Jess was a true professional from start to finish. She began our process with prompt emails, texts and calls to our first meeting, was AMAZING the day of, and finished out the process with a personalized gift/photo set. 1,000% recommended! Sarahlena and I met Jess in Philadelphia on a sunny, humid, HOT day to meet for 2+ hours to do the engagement photos and get comfortable and acquainted with each other. We began near City Hall to and walked our way through town to the Race Street Pier. Jess was great at getting us into the right spots with great lighting. Jess has a great personality; so easy to hang out with for the day. Jess loves what she does and it showed that afternoon. It was SO HOT, and I was ready to call it quits ½-way through the shoot, but Jess kept asking us to do one more, and then, do one more. She kept us on track that day.  For those of you who don’t know, the wedding day is HELLA hectic. Having a photographer that can handle the time crunch, two sets of families and a bunch of diva bridesmaids/groomsmen, with ease and class is priceless. At our wedding, Jess was on-point from start to finish. I specifically remember at one moment, the families had been late, and we were missing some of the bridesmaids which put us 40+ minutes behind schedule. I started to become anxious. Once we had all parties, Jess instantly took charge, calm and collective. She got everyone from A to B to knock out the photo shoot and the night became a huge success! Lastly, it goes without saying, as you can see from her pics, she does amazing work! She has the talent and eye that make photography so wonderful. Sarah and I now have photos that we hope will be passed down to our grandkids, and their grandkids. THANKS JESS!
