Joanna was incredible!!!!!! We didn't want to focus on formal photos, we really only wanted mostly candid, and she did this effortlessly and casually. I am not photogenic in the least bit and she did an amazing job of making me look perfect in every shot. She encompassed exactly what the wedding was, sophisticated and island chic simplicity at its finest!

Joanna is great! She is so friendly and very easy to get in touch with. We booked her for 4 hours and time flew by! She brought her assistant who was also wonderful and they took such lovely photos of us at the ceremony and especially at the beach afterwords. She made sure to get guest photos too. Joanna made us feel comfortable and was able to capture such special moments between me and my husband on our wedding day and we are so happy with the photos we received. We loved working with her and would definitely recommend her!

Joanna Tano is not only a superb photographer, she is a wonderful person who will make you feel at ease on your wedding day. My husband and I were both pleasantly surprised by the way Jaonna allowed us to feel comfortable in our own skin while we were being asked to pose for numerous photos -- not an easy task. We were married upcountry at the Hui, which she photographed beautifully. She has a great eye for light and landscapes and does amazing work, but the true plus with Joanna is how comfortable she makes you feel and the way in which she will capture your authentic personality and love in your photos. Nothing cheesy, over the top, or intrusive about Joanna or her team; they are pleasant to work with, but also highly skilled. Enthusiastically recommend!

Joanna recently shot our engagement portraits and we couldn't be happier with the results! She has a real talent for finding the best lighting and our photos came out gorgeous. My fiancé and I are hardly "naturals" in front of the camera. Joanna made us feel so comfortable and it ended up being a very fun experience. We can't wait to have her capture our wedding next year! Joanna is the best! She photographed my wedding in Hana with just my husband and me. Photos were the biggest deal to us since we didn't have family with us, so I looked at dozens of photographers and when I came across Joanna's work I was done looking! Amazing experience and we love the photos! Joanna was recommended by our wedding organizer. After going through a few choices, we decided to go with her because we like how she makes use of natural lighting therefore minimal processing to achieve a more natural look without over touching up. The photos turned out really well. She had some interesting angles and ideas which made our pre-wedding, reception and couple beach shoot not boring and cliche. Joanna brought her assistant too for the shooting and they both were friendly and easy to work with. I like how she's friendly but not babbling. It seems like she's really putting thought into her work! Her team worked hard from beginning till the end. They also tried their best to stay out of the way and we didn't notice them at all during the ceremony! The photos turned out great and were ready in only 20 days! We also love how the website was nicely set up and was easy to navigate. We can also use the tools to save our favorites and share with friends easily. Joanna is tech savvy! Overall we are very pleased with the experience. Although the standard Maui prices are on the high side, we're glad we chose Joanna to be our photographer. It's daunting to not know what to expect when you are paying this much money, but I'm sure she'll do a good job in your next event. We highly recommend her team!

I found Joanna through a co-worker’s referral and I’m so glad I found her! We used Joanna to take our engagement photos while we were on vacation in Maui. The pictures came out wonderfully! The online process to book Joanna’s services was very easy and efficient. As soon as I booked Joanna, she quickly responded. I gave her some general feedback about the type of photos I wanted, which was both beach and greenery type photos and she was very helpful in suggesting some nice places to take photos. We took photos at Po‘Olenalena Beach which is south of Wailea that had some greenery, craggy rocks and smooth beach areas. The location was perfect; it had everything I was looking for and Joanna took perfect advantage of all the lighting that the sunset had to offer. She really captured some beautiful moments. In the hour we spent with her, Joanna took a variety of photos that made it seem like we traveled to 3 completely different places. The photos arrived in the mail about two weeks later and they were gorgeous! The sunset backgrounds were perfect. There was also a good balance of close-up and panoramic photos as well. I loved all the photos! I would definitely recommend her to anyone.

Joanna was one of the first photographers we found in our search and one of our favorites. We were very lucky to have her at our wedding and the results prove that. The final photos were beautiful and plentiful. In person, Joanna was very pleasant, kind, and patient. We are extremely happy to have had Joanna on our big day!! Joanna captured all of our beautiful moments, and all the pictures are really natural and breathtaking. She is very professional, nice, and warm. During the ceremony and dinner reception, she kept an appropriate distance from us so that we did not feel like we were simple “posing.” Instead, she shot a lot of our natural behaviors. She did an amazing job at capturing the atmosphere. As you can see in her pictures, the brides always look stunning and grooms are handsome. If you want to preserve the memory, Joanna would definitely be the best choice.

We absolutely loved having Joanna as our photographer for our wedding! Since we were having a destination wedding in Eastern Washington, we did most of our communication with all of our vendors via email and over the phone. While I felt nervous with what type of service I would receive from most of my vendors, I felt absolutely confident in what I was getting from Joanna. From the beginning, she was very professional, timely and straightforward about the service I was requesting while still giving off a calm and comforting vibe. She was so reassuring to work with and handled my "crazy-bride freak outs" with ease. :) On the day of our wedding, Joanna was laid back yet organized. She was able to adapt to the schedule when our groom and groomsmen showed up a little late, when the wind started to pick up and when the sun was casting major shadows in the areas we had pre-planned for the shoot. She was even able to make the entire experience fun and enjoyable for my husband, who HATES having his picture taken and can be pretty un-photogenic at times. Our photos were edited and delivered to us much quicker than I ever thought (within two weeks!) and they turned out absolutely gorgeous. Joanna is the nicest, most laid back, and professional person I have ever met! This was my first time every being married or having to find a photographer. She over exceeded my expectations. Her work is absolutely breath taking. I get tears in my eyes every time I look at our album. She captured our day just beautifully. Joanna is very knowledgeable about the islands, we had lost of questions and she was more than happy to help us. She arrived on time and even stayed late because we were driving to multiple locations to capture the perfect sunset. I can't say enough great things about her. You will not find anyone better!

Joanna was an amazing photographer, from the moment we first talked on the phone I knew we made the right choice. We were very happy with Joanna. She was very considerate of what we wanted and made sure the photos reflected that. We planned our wedding in a short amount of time and had to find a photographer within a week of the ceremony as our other photographer dissapeared. Joanna was very accomadating and very mindful of how we wanted our pictures to be and also offered a calm and nice presence to a nervous bride who was all on her own!

Joanna was the first of my vendors that I booked. I had seen her website before (joannatano.com), but it was really through word of mouth from other brides that I was encouraged to book her. One of the other Hawai'i brides couldn't stop raving about her! So, we checked her out and really fell in love with her natural, photojournalistic style. When we met Joanna in person, we were even more excited to work with her! She was the sweetest person, and very genuine. On our wedding day, she was totally unobtrusive (which pleased my father to no end - he, like me, hates it when photographers worry more about getting the shot than the guests' view), a consumate professional and a fantastic choice.
