When I went to him I wanted creative photos that felt more like art than the posed , washed out wedding photos I had seen countless of times. He heard me, saw the vision and delivered it. If you are looking for a high-end wedding photographer who will give you a diverse shot list with editorial, vintage and vibrant photos John is the one for you! If you are looking for a true professional who has a love for the art and experiencing the moments with you and your friends and family, John is the one for you! If you want to feel like you belong in vogue magazine, John is the one for you! If you want exceptional service and professional communication, John is the one for you! If you are afraid you aren’t photogenic, don’t know how to pose or are worried about “getting the shot” John is the one for you! Weddings are expensive, but you get what you pay for and John gave us photos that will help us experience our wedding in the best light for the rest of our lives. We could not be happier.

John was the first vendor we hired once our venue was booked for our wedding. We found John here, on the Knot. We were looking for a photographer who would capture the true essence and emotions of our Big Day, and John's bio promised "bold color, real emotion, and photographing moments just as they are – all the laughs, tears, romance, and joy as it happens" so it seemed like a good fit for us. The thing is, John wasn't just a good fit; he was a GREAT fit. Yes, our photos turned out incredible and so much better than we could ever imagine (we can relive our wedding and feel all the feels just by looking at them). But more than that, working with John was SO fun and wonderful. John cares about the photos, but he also cares about us - I bet you won't find another photographer who will text you a very unflattering picture of himself when you are randomly panicking that you don't know how to pose days before your wedding and proceed to talk you off your ledge. Having John around on our wedding day (and engagement shoot) felt like having a friend who happens to carry a camera around and make us look fantastic. Anyway, you get the picture by now - John is great, and if you're searching for a photographer to capture authentic moments, you'll be lucky to work with him!

Choosing John as our photographer was so worth it. He is incredibly organized and easy to talk to. He took many photos and each one was absolutely gorgeous. He is really great about creating movement and using lighting. For our portraits, He posed us in ways that felt natural instead of forced. During our wedding, he took so many amazing candid shots of our family and friends. Couldn't recommend him enough!

John is excellent. I cannot stress enough how awesome he was. I hired him after he worked my best friend’s wedding, in which I was the maid of honor. I was blown away by how he is able to get everyone smiling and in great poses. Then her photos were processed (with great turnaround time), and they were absolutely excellent. When it was time to plan my own wedding, I didn’t even look at anyone else! His associate that he brought to assist was also incredible. Excellent posed and candid photos. I couldn’t be happier!

John was by far our favorite and most reliable vendor. He was present and personable during pre-wedding meetings, he took some time to get to know us, he made accommodations for our specific circumstance. The day of the wedding John was funny and made us feel so comfortable. The result is truly beautiful pictures. John captured all the Pinterest perfect pictures we were expecting, but went above and beyond to identify that we don’t take ourselves too seriously and even shared a handful of hilarious gifs that captured the silly, loving energy of our friends and family. When we look at John’s pictures we can hear the toasts, taste the cake and feel the embrace of our friends and family. Highly recommend for anyone who wants someone to capture the extremely personal story of their wedding.

My husband and I had the opportunity to work with John for our December wedding, and it was truly an incredible experience!! John and his assistant did a phenomenal job providing photography at our wedding. From our first discussions about getting his services to the day itself, John was a true professional and artist in discussing the philosophy behind his work, how he captures special moments, and what he needed from us. He remained flexible and graceful throughout, giving us guidance where we needed it and easily blending into the background to capture us and our guests naturally when we weren’t specifically posing for the camera. We have no idea how he got some of the shots he did, but we are impressed! My wife and I happily recommend him for anyone looking to get a truly memorable wedding experience captured in photographs.

John was AMAZING from our first video call meeting him to see if he was a good fit to the day of our wedding he was wonderful. He immediately makes you feel at ease. It felt like we had an old friend taking our photos. He’s unbelievably engaging and easygoing. He makes you feel so comfortable. My fiancé and I did our engagement photos with John and it was 50 mph winds and he was so patient and made our photos look effortless!! We immediately knew after our engagement photos that he was our photographer!! On our wedding day he and his assistant were wonderful!! We again had some strong winds to contend with and his assistant not only helped my fiancé pin his boutonnière but she kept trying to pin my veil so it wouldn’t get blown away and John took some wonderful photos of that!! John has an unbelievable talent for capturing the moment and the love and happiness that each couple shares!! He really captured my fiancé and I in our engagement photos and he definitely captured all the love we have for each other and our family and friends (including John) at our wedding. I had the absolute honor and privilege to work with John Winters for my wedding in July 2022. He came recommended to me by my wedding planner after hearing my “wish list” of photos. I immediately fell in love with John’s work after seeing his portfolio (can we show some appreciation for those nighttime photos!!!) – I wanted my wedding to be told in a story, not in photos that everyone was looking straight at the camera for. He was extremely accommodating to the inevitable challenges that wedding planning brings on – including working with me on the package details since my bridals fell through (venue issue, not John), having multiple calls to ensure we were on the same page on what I was hoping to capture day of, and removing the awkwardness that comes with being photographed. All of my moments were captured – including the photos that I thought were not possible due to construction challenges outside the venue. He made it happen for me. After the wedding, I assumed that our conversations would die off, as a normal wedding vendor relationship typically do. Nope, not John. He continued to follow up and make sure that I had everything I needed. Including taking time away from his own family time to edit some photos for me so my grandfather who was in ICU could see them. I never felt like a transactional client of his, but more of a friend and family member that he truly cared for and prioritized. Of all the tough decisions I had to make during the year long process of wedding planning, John was the easiest and one I continue to stand by. If you’re looking for someone you can trust to take control of the day, have a calming presence and professional demeanor, as well as capture the beautiful moments you see (and don’t see), John is your guy hands down.

Like most couples, photos were one of the most important aspects of our wedding, and we wanted the best. John is definitely THE BEST!! He took my bridal portraits as well, and when that venue messed up and double booked, he really advocated for me and we ended up getting absolutely gorgeous photos! He went above and beyond at the wedding, and my mother said no one worked harder than John! She still cries when she looks at the photos. My coordinator was fairly new and didn’t know all the ends and outs of the venue, but John is so knowledgeable and was such a great resource. When it was raining and my coordinator wanted to call it quits on our getaway photos, John stepped in and made them happen with our families! We can not look back and think of our wedding day without John. A year later, he even did my maternity photos. No one I trust more to deliver timeless, beautiful and iconic photographs. We can’t begin to express how wonderful it was working with John. Over 2 years of planning and several reschedules, he was more than accommodating, he was encouraging and supportive through the whole process. Stunning. Gorgeous. Iconic. I don't think there are enough superlatives I can use to describe John's photos. I was first drawn to John's photography while browsing his gallery and couldn't stop thinking how his photos reminded me of a Vogue cover shoot. Not only are his compositions top-notch but his editing and playful use of lighting is next level. John was also a delight to work with during our wedding day navigating through tight and sometimes broken time-tables. He was always accommodating and always hustling throughout the wedding day. Hire this man, you won't regret it.

John was a fantastic photographer for our wedding! He made everyone feel so comfortable and even got on the dance floor with us and showed us some of his moves. I am absolutely blown away by the incredible wedding photos we came away with. John is a phenomenal photographer, but he's also a great person and very easy to work with. We hired him for our wedding and engagement shoot. He is reliable, personable, and professional. He listened to what our concerns and wishes were with what we were wanting from our photography and accomplished exactly what we asked for. We were both super awkward for posed photos but he found ways to make us look super natural (no idea how). I know we weren't easy, because I told him I absolutely hate posed photos, we did most of them before the ceremony and told him that once the ceremony hit, I wanted to enjoy the cocktail hour with my guests and we gave him like 20 minutes for posed photos lol. He nailed it! Our dream was to have photos mostly candid and of us and our guests just enjoying themselves and it's exactly what we got. I loved how many energetic candid shots he got of our guests in perfectly fun moments. He is tremendously talented and my husband and I both enjoyed working with him and getting to know him. We also were very appreciative that he was always very responsive when communicating, hit every deadline he had promised with turnaround for our photos, and gave us completely realistic timelines. Special shoutout to his delivery of a few photos earlier so we could use them for Christmas/Hannukah cards! I cannot recommend him enough. Go with John and you'll be in great hands.

The wedding day was hectic, but we got some wonderful shots....despite the pouring rain that eliminated my sunset shots! I loved that he combined traditional with creative and artistic photos.

John Winters was the best decision my husband and I made. We knew our photographer was the most important vendor for us, so we booked early! Good thing too - John books up FAST. We did our engagement shoot at the Elgin Christmas Tree Farm in December 2020, and John completely blew us away. He was funny, fast-paced, and had an incredible eye. We were nervous because neither of us had done professional photos before, but John took care of us. We adore the photos. When our wedding came around, John knew exactly what questions to ask us and how to handle all of our family members during the madness of the wedding day. It rained so John made some quick adjustments for my father/daughter first look, and the photos are PERFECT. I cannot recommend him enough when anyone asks about wedding photographers. Our photos are everything I hoped and dreamed they would be. Tons of hilarious candid shots that I never would have seen without John's expert eye. He brought a delightful second shooter with him and worked quickly (even while setting up difficult shots) - an essential skill during a fast-paced wedding. At the church, he sprayed things in the air to create dramatic texture (photos were WOW!), positioned himself in the perfect spots in perfect timing to capture the unforgettable moments, and seemed to be everywhere without being obtrusive. We didn’t want boring, standard, posed shots of our wedding. We wanted a more documentary/journalistic take – someone who could make us *feel* how we felt on that day when enjoying the pics years from now. That’s exactly how John approaches his craft. Easy to work with and spectacular results. I was really hesitant to hire a photographer because I don’t usually like my pictures, but hiring John was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. The pictures are amazing and really capture the mood of our wedding — and our personalities. In addition to great pictures of us, one of the things we value most are the incredible pictures that capture our family and friends. Almost a year out, we love being able to relive that day through John’s magical pictures. Couldn’t recommend him more highly.

There are not enough good things to say about John. Completely cool and collected while I tittered around before the ceremony, bugging out about nonsense, John was able to talk to me down, all while capturing all the little moments happening. Such a wonderful presence at our wedding, and just a truly gifted photographer whose photos made us laugh and cry. He has such a gift for candid shots. He is an expert at his craft, you can't do better than hiring John for your wedding.

I cannot say enough good things about John Winters! Not only did he capture amazing moments on our wedding day, but he also maintained a calm, cool, and collected presence throughout! We really appreciated his humor and flexibility that day. I am unsure how he did it, but there was not a single moment left uncaptured. More so, the photos he took of our friends and family were equally as stunning and beautiful as the ones of us. From a logistics standpoint, he was professional and prompt, coordinating with our other vendors and coordinator seamlessly. 2 years ago, my wife and I went through the process of finding a wedding photographer. We went into this process blindly as we looked at different vendors. Through the process, we discovered John, who happens to shoot in both the NY Metro area, as well as his hometown of Austin, TX. We fell in love with his work, and little did we know - we were meeting someone who also connected with us at a personal level. We felt extremely confident in his craft, and that's led us to booking him for our wedding. John is great at what he does, and his reviews and work can reflect that. We're so glad to have had him shoot at our wedding, and we loved how it turned out. John was such an amazing, professional photographer. He did such an incredible job of capturing special moments. There were some pictures that even captured Wells of tears in our daughter’s eye as she watched guests arrive from a balcony window and then when she cried during her vows, the pictures were so personal and in the moment. Looking back at these crystal clear memories completely brought me back to those very emotions I felt during the wedding. At the reception, John captured the groomsmen smoking cigars. It was such a cool picture with the lights, smoke and poses. During the reception, after guests let their hair down, he fully snapped total dancing moves that were amazing! I’m just awed by the beautiful pictures that John took at our daughter’s wedding. They were stellar!

John was wonderful to work with. We were yet another COVID wedding, and he was so understandable and flexible--I certainly cannot say that for all of our vendors! When moving dates (besides the venue of course) John Winter's was the only vendor I HAD to have available before rebooking my date. I would recommend John over and over again.

I'm super late getting this review out, but I have to take the time to say how amazing John was to work with! Getting married is stressful enough, but doing it during covid while still trying to work full time was crazy! I had very little assistance planning our wedding that went from 150ish to 100ish to 30ish as covid restrictions changed. Not being able to meet with many vendors in person and just trusting the professionals we hired was a leap of faith. But I would hire John Winters Photography again in a heart beat! He was professional and timely, rolling with the punches while giving us beautiful candid photos. I can't stand tons of posed shots and John listened to that and made a nice mix. When we posted them to social media, my mother called me CRYING! The photos took her breath away, she was so happy that with everything else that didn't go quite as planned in 2020, our photos turned out amazing. It would not be the last phone conversation like that and I've been asked for the contact information for our photographer close to a dozen times. John takes the time to get to know you as a couple (even from a distance) and that care shows up in his work. Thank you John for your patience with this nervous attention detailed bride and TONS of thanks for photos we will truly treasure for the rest of our lives.

We just received our wedding photos back from John (way ahead of schedule) and we are beyond ecstatic! The quality and quantity of shots were amazing and far exceeded our expectations. John is a professional through and through which showed from the first meeting we had with him. He listened closely and expressed interest in getting a good feel about what we wanted and filled in the gaps where needed. He graciously made himself available during the wedding planning process and coordinated with other vendors such that he was able to hit the ground running on our big day, and did he ever! John arrived early and got everything set up even before he was technically "on the clock" and believe me he kept taking shots until the very last minute! First class work ethic if I ever saw it. To top that off, he is extremely personable and fun to be around. He was also pretty good about stepping out of his comfort zone since we had a non-traditional wedding, and showed remarkable curiosity and willingness to learn about our culture. We hired John as our wedding photographer, literally the very first vendor we hired. Our wedding hasn't happened yet, but we just needed to add to the pool of positive reviews for this amazing photographer. See below for more details on working with John. In short, John is the man for the job. He is passionate about his craft, has a great eye/mind for color, chemistry, and balance, and is so personable you'll feel like your friend is taking pictures of you. We had our engagement session a few days ago, smack in the middle of Austin's winter storm. He helped us choose an activity based on our interests, filter through locations, and kept is updated throughout the whole process. It was all carefully planned, and when the weather threw a wrench into that, John was flexible. He braved the snow and captured magic. My fiancee and I were originally supposed to have a cooking session, but the times have been unprecedented. We didn't get to mention our lack of ingredients until John walked in the door, and within seconds he had a plan B and C ready. John scoped out our place for photogenic locations, and came back all fired up! He was so fun to work with, never a dull moment, and comforting in a way. He gave my fiance and I room to be ourselves with enough direction to get the perfect shot. My fiance and I lean towards camera shy, but we both felt so at ease with John. He is also just generally such a kind person, offering other vendor recommendations and help in any other aspects of wedding planning. Did I mention we received sample photos within hours of the session's completion? Gorgeous. Simply that. Just another demonstration of his dedication to the art. He responds to emails incredibly quickly, is detail-oriented, and professional. He was willing to work with our budget. One of the best and easiest decisions we've made was to work with John. I honestly can't recommend him enough.

John did the photographs for our son and daughter-in-law’s wedding and his photos are an incredible reminder of the event and especially of the little things that made the celebration special. I thought that was just great because I know how much time my son and his wife put into planning that wonderful event. John has a unique sense of place, lighting, and positioning that bring his pictures to life in an exciting way - making you remember every aspect of that wonderful time. After reviewing the photos that John took, I told my wife that he’s a “magician for the moment”.

If you're lucky enough to work with John, you're getting a photographer who is intuitive, creative, and fun to be around. That last point was very important to us, since you end up spending a lot of your wedding day with your photographer! We wanted to capture all the color and vibrancy of our Indian wedding and John's style was the perfect fit. He captured the intricacy of our ceremony perfectly and you can truly feel the emotion in every photo. We also shot engagements with John and he is wonderful at giving direction to make sure you get the perfect shot. I hired John to shoot my surprise engagement at Mt. Bonnell during Christmas Eve and he was awesome. Coming from out of town, John scoped out the best spots to propose days before I arrived, and even sent me a video to make sure I knew how to get there! The photos he took were amazing and really captured a special moment that we’ll get to look back on for the rest of our lives.

Just wanted to write a very sweet review to John Winters. I fell in love with his work and as so excited to have found a photographer with his eye. Unfortunately, he was already booked for my wedding day but was kind enough to take the time to help me find another photographer who had similar qualities. I don’t even know how to put into words just how brilliant John is. My husband and I got married in November 2020, and one of the first things we did was book a photographer. From the moment we spoke to John, we both knew that we wanted him to be a part of our wedding. My husband loathes posed photos and is not comfortable in front of the camera. John managed to capture him throughout the day in such an unobtrusive way, and nearly always with a smile on his face (if we weren't constantly laughing). So many of our guests have commented on his professional attitude, and how he blended in (seriously I don't remember seeing him taking the pictures). He was there when he said he would be, communicated with us regularly, and most certainly didn’t clock watch. The photos we received are wonderful, and we cannot thank him enough. Not only is John incredibly good at what he does, but he is also a fabulous person – in short, everything you could wish for in a wedding photographer!

I don't know where to begin with John Winters. He's kind and funny and an awesome person , but photographer seems like too small a word. Like calling Anthony Bourdain a cook. Frankly, I didn't know photos could look as good as John's photos. He collaborate on us with our wacky ideas (we did a Graduate-themed engagement shoot), was charming with our families, and communicative throughout the pandemic. When we were looking for a wedding photographer, so many photos looked the same — beautiful, but the same. When I saw John's photos they were dramatic and beautiful and filled with emotion. And ours were no different. I can tell you how he nailed all the family shots, blah blah blah. But the photos I will cherish forever are the ones that John caught in the moment, because he has an eye that every person with a camera just doesn't have. I didn't have a large budget for my wedding, so getting the photographer was scary for me. I can honestly say that of all the vendors/people hired for this wedding, the photos ended up being the biggest value in my mind. I've heard nothing but compliments from friends and family, complimenting the photos and the style themselves — everyone was impressed. What more do you need to know? Send the dude an email!

We loved that when we looked through Jonn's gallery, no couple ever looks the same or photo looks the same. John has a gift for being in the moment and genuinely taking in the surroundings to capture the moment that the couple or individual is happening. He's such a riot and fun too! A few years after our wedding he came back to take first year pics of our son and our family. We just had a great time and love our photos of our family through his lens.

It was such a pleasure working with John for a fall intimate wedding. The event space, Houston Arboretum, is very unique, and he was ready to photograph every detail. He is very responsive in communicating (email/phone). This is truly a wedding planners' ideal work partnership. Thank you John. You are amazing!

He was so professional and kind during the whole process from engagement photos to the wedding day. He had the best sense of humor the whole time and is one of the few people that was able to get my husband to relax and have fun while any photos were taken. I can't say enough about John. He was amazing to work with for my July 2020 wedding. Even during covid he made it happen! He was very professional and personable. I absolutely love our pictures! The lighting and the candid shots were just what we were looking for. He worked well with our dogs too! John was absolutely amazing! Due to the pandemic we had to cancel our original plan and create and plan a new wedding in 30 days. John to the rescue! We had heard about him from a different venue we visited and fell in love with his portfolio online. He responded promptly when I asked if he was available for our wedding date and we had a call and clicked instantly! He has a great personality and way to him that makes him fun, warm, and super professional. You can really tell he loves his work and is passionate about it. His work with lighting is absolutely incredible, like something out of a fancy magazine! He sent previews the next day after the wedding and we had all our photos back in a week!! I highly recommend. 100% worth it!!

John has been so great throughout our wedding planning process. Our original wedding plans were scrapped when Covid hit, and instead we just did a ceremony at our church with our immediate family. John was so flexible and took so many gorgeous pictures before and during the ceremony, and even offered to meet us later that evening at a picturesque spot to take more photos, which he definitely didn't have to do. We took him up on his offer, and those turned out to be some of our favorite pictures. John's use of light in his photos is incredible, and we've gotten so many comments from friends that our pictures look like art. He's also great at making people who clam up in front of cameras (like my new husband) loosen up and look natural and happy in pictures. I highly recommend John to everyone--he's a true professional and I promise you won't be disappointed.

John was absolutely amazing when it came to working with us by being flexible with our itty bitty timeline and our photographer requirements/expectations. Before we decided to go with John we actually already made plans with another photographer who wasn’t able to shoot for our wedding, but recommended John to us. We truly appreciate how informative he was during our meetings and how fun and easy going he was during our special day!! Upon first meeting John, I found it difficult to get a reading on the guy. He was willing to meet though and was receptive to our ideas and what we wanted and was willing to be communicative w/ anything else moving forward. John Winters is truly an exceptional photographer and quite the character. Everybody at my wedding loved him. So many people came up to me afterwards and said, "That photographer was amazing!" John was everywhere, and his photographs did a great job of matching the mood. When I was drunk and dancing on the floor, he met me on the floor and snapped some good shots. When we were happy, dancing, and drunk, he had some great blurry dancing photos. Truly spectacular. Very professional. He made us all feel comfortable throughout, and was open to whatever came up. John has an eye for moments worth photographing, has good vision and framing. Good knowledge of camera and lighting. He was a one-man army. "Rock star" is a phrase that keeps coming up when I describe him to people. I love this dude, and you would be smart to book him for your wedding. I'll cherish these pictures for the rest of my life, and then maybe they will be cherished for a long time after I am gone as well.

John recently photographed our wedding and did an amazing job! Throughout the entire process he was delightful to work with. He was kind enough to set up a meeting well before our wedding date so we could have an opportunity to share our vision for the day and on the wedding day he helped make that become a reality. John met and exceeded our expectations from the very start. We had a specific idea of what we were wanting, and John was very flexible & happy to accommodate us. He was incredibly responsive, replied to every message/question within a few hours, and was awesome at checking in throughout the planning process to ensure we were on the same page. My husband and I hired John for our engagement and wedding photos, and I kid you not when I say that they all turned out EXACTLY like we had dreamed of, if not even better! We edited all of our wedding photos less than a week after the wedding, and my friends and I were all emotional looking through them because they captured our wedding day so. Perfectly. What a talented dude! We hired John for our beautiful wedding at Villa Del Lago! He did not disappoint! I also used his serviced for my bridal portraits and I am so thankful I did! We had plenty of time to get creative and have fun! John has a great eye, an extreme amount of knowledge of photography/lighting, and creative inspiration that drives him to produce such spectacularly beautiful imagery with amazing composition! Not to mention, he's pretty funny and is great at helping those of us that are bad at posing look like we know what we are doing! Amazing amazing AMAZING! John was absolutely wonderful. He was prompt (15 minutes early even!), polite, and friendly. His work is truly unique, he has a great eye and really knows how to use the venue and get an interesting shot. The quality for what I paid was better than I could have hoped. His prices are very reasonable, much less than I've seen from other photographers, but the quality of his work is still very professional. I loved every photo! The turnaround time was also very quick. John sent me a few teaser photos the NEXT MORNING and the full photo album was sent in just two weeks! I would absolutely recommend John, I had no issues and was thrilled by the results.

Absolutely AMAZING! I am still blown away at how great our engagement pictures turned out. I went into the shoot with some nerves and feeling a bit awkward about the process (I have never liked being in front of a camera) but John made the whole process so easy and comfortable that we ended up having a lot of fun with it! The only problem we have now is having more AMAZING pictures than we know what to do with!
