We had been put in contact with J.Olson through a recommendation. For our wedding, we wanted “editorial” style imagery, and we were excited about J after looking through the extens...
ive portfolio of work on his website. What stood out was his range of style through digital and film imagery, which gave us the confidence that he could deliver on our vision.
Some additional background, our wedding was a Grand Cocktail style wedding, not a traditional sit down. Additionally we did not want our wedding to be cluttered with multiple photographers/videographers and equipment to avoid the overwhelming movement/chaos that could take away from our moment. We had thought this might be a challenge for one person to cover all angles and moments of a wedding weekend. But after our initial consultation with J, we thoroughly discussed the details and were put at ease that he could accomodate.
On our wedding day, filled with excitement, nerves and stresses, J’s calmness and ability to be in the perfect place at the right time, all while being almost invisible was so incredibly impressive. He let the day unfold naturally, and uninterrupted in a beautiful way. Throughout the day, he *anticipated* where the perfect photos would be, and never missed a single moment; which resulted in a candidness and genuineness in our photos which complimented our free flowing Grand Cocktail Wedding event. Navigating multiple rooms, groups, and areas of impact, J had covered it all with grace and efficiency. Outside of his craft, he was such a pleasure to be with the entire weekend. He is such a great person, we had fun together day and night, and we had complete trust in him.
We had invested in his film photography (which are the photos shown below) as well as digital. When we received our film gallery back promptly after our wedding… we were FLOORED at how amazing they were. The “Editorial” style photos that looked like a Vogue photoshoot exceeded our expectations, and each photograph was completely unique and had such a warmth/timelessness to them. My Suggestion: Invest in film!
Although a wedding is just one beautiful and fleeting day, it is the pictures that will last a lifetime. I urge everyone to invest in the rare artistry and eye for beautiful details, that come exclusively with J Olson.
J - We will cherish the memories you have provided us for the rest of our lives, and we take pride in that you created them for us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Josh was incredible to have as our wedding photographer. We had many different locations and lots of people to photograph, and he executed it all with ease, artistry, and grace. On...
top of juggling the demands of shooting with film, he was able to capture all the candid, in-between moments that meant the world for us to be able to look back upon as memories that felt like a haze during the day (or we weren't even able to witness first-hand). The reason we booked him is because his work felt like fine-art, and he definitely delivered on that for our wedding. We will cherish these photos for years to come and would highly recommend him to any future couple.

ore than delivered. What we didn’t expect was how much his work would bring out our personalities and just how much FUN the day was. Every picture is a perfect reminder of the joy of the day, he captured it beautifully. He also did our engagement photo shoot and was more than happy to collaborate on our unique location ideas. We would recommend Josh over and over again!
We can't thank Josh enough for capturing our wedding day so beautifully and thoughtfully. His attention to detail is unmatched! He truly captures moments that happen so quickly on ...
such a special day, so it means the world to us to have these memories to look back on! His work is stunning and so timeless. We booked him for our engagement session as well and couldn't recommend him enough! Thank you again Josh!
Josh is professional and great to work with. He is a talented photographer, we absolutely love our wedding pictures.
There are a million awesome things we could say about Josh as our wedding photographer. A truly talented & professional artist, with a calm & collected personality, who was able to...
provide clear direction for our 18-person bridal party and HUGE families! Hiring him was one of the best decisions we made in our wedding planning process. The whole day, we felt like we were with a friend, and felt extremely comfortable in front of the camera with him. With the craziness of any wedding day, it was great having him there to keep us calm, present, and on track. He provided both "traditional" portraits and candids, and to note was also was a stealth bomber with the candid shots–we hardly even knew he was there and he was not obtrusive at all. He has a great eye and truly creates art with the camera. We also did the "film add-on" that he provides as an additional service, and am really happy we did that as well. He has a lot of other additional services that are unique to his brand that we did not see offered from other wedding photographers. If you're on the fence about your wedding photographer, I highly recommending going with Josh. You will not regret it, and will receive beautiful, intimate images to keepsake for all the years to come!

ve, professional, flexible, and responsive to our ideas and needs. Josh took great care to get to know us as a couple – our personalities, hobbies, favorite places in the city, and even our favorite cocktails (or beer if you're my husband), all with the intention of weaving these elements into the photos.
Josh is great at getting the “traditional” posed pictures and has such a talented eye for candid shots as well. My husband and I both have large extended families and getting shots of all of us on our wedding day was nothing short of a challenge – and he handled it like a total pro. We worked together to draft a wedding day timeline in advance, and it was him that made sure to incorporate time for my husband and I to relax and enjoy our day in the midst of the busy-ness. We truly appreciated his cognizance of these basic but often overlooked details that truly make the day memorable. We are absolutely thrilled with our photos, and everyone we've shared them with has commented on his ability to capture our day through so many different perspectives - another reviewer described his approach as "a quiet addition to the chaos", and I think that's completely accurate. We 100% recommend Josh and can’t wait for our next opportunity to work with him.
Josh is a gifted artist in a humble persona. We met him at a friend's wedding, and when we saw their photos, we knew there was really only one person we wanted to visually tell the...
story of ours! Josh flew to Colorado for a whole weekend to be our destination wedding photographer, and was even willing to go on an energetic hike to shoot a pre-wedding session with us and our horses!
As a bride, Josh was the person I was most excited to give our money to, because I absolutely trusted his ability to take the vision that we had in designing our wedding, and make it into something we can savor and cherish for the rest of our lives. I also knew that he would help my husband, friends, family, and myself look our absolute best.
Josh, you are our hero and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

h, and we had a great time spending our wedding day with him! We get to relive the entire wedding day with the photos he took. We would recommend Josh to all!
Josh is awesome to work with! If you are looking for a more candid view of your wedding day and a super laid back photographer, Josh is the way to go! He is great to shoot with, so...
friendly, and the photos he takes are fantastic. The whole process from our first chat to him working on the album was smooth and easy. I felt like there were so many photographers and everyone is good at what they do, so I thought I'd have a hard time choosing a photographer. I'm so happy we went with him for our wedding day, he was really great!
Josh took a hectic day and made it a wonderfully amazing memory! We couldn't be more pleased with the final product. He continued to work with us after all was said and done. I ...
will admit I had no idea if I would be getting my monies worth, but when I saw the photos, I knew it was cash well spent. I now have the dilemma of deciding on which photos are my favorite...alas, a problem I am happy to solve! Thank you, Josh, for a beautiful and stunning photographic memory of our daughter's wedding. All the best!
Everything we could have hoped for and more from what we thought would be a much more painful experience! Josh was recommended to us by a friend, and we loved his work right away. ...
His goal is to capture those unexpected special moments (we didn't want too many cheesy posed shots) and his photos have a beautiful film-like appearance -- two things that were really important to us. Neither of us are very big into having our pictures taken and thought we'd just look terribly awkward, but Josh was super easy to work with. He got lots of natural smiles out of my husband and we both felt relaxed the whole time! Josh was also very responsive, even after we likely passed the "acceptable number of questions to ask your wedding photographer" limit. Overall, he was super flexible and fun to work with, and our final photos were absolutely stunning! We will treasure them forever.
Josh was SO awesome. Not only did he conquer a challenging shooting environment (outside, dark, on the roof, bright lights, cold temps) but he thrived among the chaos of our family...
and friends. Josh will be an investment in your memories!
Fantastic. Beyond his photographs being beautiful and exciting, he was awesome. I really feel like he cared about the photos maybe even more than my husband and I. He was committed...
to getting our full day to be part of the story his photographs were able to tell. Super fun, super low stress and super talented.

out a weeks notice (during the week) and brought an assistant so they could be our witnesses. He has photographed a few other weddings of friends, and his work is by far my favorite. On both days, Josh was a quiet addition to the chaos. I think this might be what enabled him to get the best shots, he's always getting the best angles, he's never in the way. I hardly noticed he was there, yet was comforted by his presence, knowing already the amazing work he does. Isn't that the wedding day dream?
I first saw Josh's work at another wedding and had figured that his work was too pricey for me. The photos were absolutely breathtaking! I had only had a budget of under $2k. When ...
I talked to our friends who had hired him for their wedding, they shocked us when they told us that his prices were in our range! HOW COULD IT BE-- a super talented photographer who is under $2k? Turns out he is somewhat new to the game, but his talent definitely makes up it! Super flexible and great with people. Call him--- meet him for coffee-- you'll love him! We did!

ve taking photos, but Josh captured great pictures of the both of us! He knew great places to take us during the engagement photos and got really great pictures. For our wedding photos, he captured all the needed photos and was very professional and respectful with the families. He is a great photographer and we would hire again in a heartbeat (we will hire him for all family photos in the future).
