Juliette's Alterations

There’s a reason Juliette has won numerous wedding awards over the years - she’s a master of her work. I accompanied my friend to her own bridal fitting and saw how excellent Juliette’s work was, so when I got engaged, I knew exactly who I wanted to do my alterations. I purchased my first and flare dress from BHLDN, so it came off the rack a week after I ordered it and needed plenty of fabric taken off the hem, as well as a decent amount taken in around the behind. Juliette made it fit flawlessly. Her bustle also laid beautifully, and it stood up to a very big night of dancing! Don’t look any further than Juliette - I live north of Boston and it was worth every minute of rush hour traffic to get down to her in Mattapan!

Juliette is extremely talented and did an amazing job making my dress perfect for my wedding. From my first appointment with Juliette to picking up my wedding dress she was amazing to work with. She listened to what I wanted done to the dress and made great suggestions as well. She is a perfectionist and that shows in her amazing work. Trusting Juliette with my wedding dress was one of the best decisions I made for my wedding. Her pricing is also reasonable and it was amazing that she steams/ presses your dress before pickup making it one less thing you need to worry about the week of your wedding. I also loved she was able to french bustle my dress, as I don't love the look of an American bustle. Would highly recommend Juliette for a wedding or any other alterations needs.

Juliette was a true angel throughout the whole process. She fit me in on a tight timeline. She gave me tips on how to sit with the dress and patiently taught my sister how to fasten the bustle. Juliette is simply AMAZING! I bought my dress at Alexandra's Bridal Boutique in Fall River, but wanted to find someone to do the alterations to my dress closer to home. When googling for alteration suggestions near me, I came across Juliette. All her reviews were 5-star and that is exactly what you get when you work with her. She is extremely talented, she has the best personality and she makes you feel 1000% confident in your wedding dress. She listens and gives her professional opinion and suggestions in the best way possible. Although I did not need a lot of alterations done to my dress, she still made it feel and look more natural and comfortable than I ever thought you could be on your wedding day! Juliette did a WONDERFUL job with my dress alterations! Not only is she skilled at what she does, but her prices are reasonable and she is lovely to work with/talk to. She listened to what I wanted when it came to my alterations and carried them out with high-quality work. She was flexible with appointments (which was important to me since I drove over an hour to have her do my dress- she's that good!!) and my dress was perfect. I can't recommend Juliette enough. I know it's hard to trust someone with your dream dress, but you can trust Juliette!!

I cannot recommend Juliette enough! I found her after being quoted an outrageous amount on Newbury Street for simple alterations on my dress and I am so happy I did! Her work is truly amazing and she is so knowledgeable about wedding dresses. She altered my dress so it fit me like a glove perfectly. She also gave me the most AMAZING 17-point bustle because of my long train, and it was absolutely stunning. I got so many compliments on how good the dress looked and how amazing the bustle was. Not only is she super talented, but she was so great and friendly to work with. She taught me how to walk with flowers and where to hold them and how to sit in my dress. She also did my sisters MOH dress and dress could not have looked any better. I could not have asked for a better experience she is the best!!!!!

After my experience, I would trust Juliette with my firstborn child. Oh my gosh I feel so lucky to have found her. I got my dress from a bridal salon in the greater Boston area, and was told that "standard" alterations (hem, bustle, baaaasically nothing else) would be $795 and anything else would be charged as "custom". Juliette did all of the following: took in and shortened my illusion sleeves, hemmed, bustled, covered the plunge on my bodice with extra lace, added some lace to my open back, and, best of all, gave me complete peace of mind throughout the entire process. All of that was cheaper than the "standard" package would've been at the place I bought the dress from. I had three fittings with Juliette and each one was a delight. I looked forward to seeing her every time, she's so kind and genuinely 100% cares about her "girls" and how we feel in the most important dress we'll ever wear!! Her advice was always on point and it is always backed by her experience but you still feel like you have complete control over the dress and how it will look. My cousin/MOH, who had been with me when I bought the dress, said she couldn't believe how much more stunning it looked once Juliette was finished with it. I cannot recommend Juliette highly enough. Thank you thank you thank you Juliette, you are truly a godsend!

10/10 — Juliette is THE BEST when it comes to all of your bridal gown alteration needs. It was very easy to book an appointment on her website and as a busy bride with lots of to-dos, I really appreciated the appointment reminder emails and texts. Juliette is a joy to work with. It’s a big deal to trust someone with your gown but Juliette immediately put me at ease with her calm, welcoming, and joyful personality. She’s professional, very reasonably priced, honest, a great communicator, and pays close attention to detail. The back part of my dress really puckered out with a ton of extra material over my hips and Juliette took the time to think and figure out how she was going to fix it. In the end, she had to lift an entire layer of lace, take in some of the material, and then reapply the lace. It came out PERFECT. My dress fit me like a glove and I’m still receiving compliments about how stunning my dress was. She also presented a few different bustle options and was very patient when teaching my friend how to work the bustle so we had no issues on my wedding day. You won’t regret booking Juliette!

I could not agree more with all the other reviews for Juliette – working with her was fantastic!! She is incredibly skilled, kind, and professional, and always has her client’s best interest in mind when making alteration suggestions. I am only 5’1 and my dress needed to be altered quite a bit, and she went above and beyond in every way. Juliette hand-sewed my lost lace back onto my dress (the bottom as well as on the sleeves), reshaped the bodice, and adjusted the shoulders and sleeves to make a dress that fit me perfectly and made me feel confident. While I loved the dress when I purchased it, I was shocked by how much of a difference her alterations made when I came in for my second fitting. She completely transformed it into a gown that looked and felt like it was custom made for me with the most gorgeous 7-point bustle I have ever seen. She also made sure to provide me with my extra dress fabric and suggested that I incorporate it into my wedding bouquet and husband’s boutonniere, which I did and was so thrilled with. My mother attended my first fitting (and is a very harsh critic) and continued to rave about how knowledgeable and talented Juliette was throughout that whole weekend – even knowing what changes Juliette was going to make, she was still floored by my final dress on my wedding day and my parents shed tears of joy during my “first look” with them. I cannot recommend Juliette enough for wedding gown alterations in the Boston area!

Juliette is the best tailor, her work is absolutely impeccable • So experienced with all types of fabrics and hemlines • Went the extra mile to ensure the shortened hem on my engagement dress matched the original wavy design instead of just sewing it straight across • Takes so much pride in her work and it is truly reflected in every layer of fabric and every perfect stitch • Her pricing and value cannot be beat!

Juliette is truly the master of her craft and so much fun to work with. She knows tons of great tricks on how to help your bridesmaids get you into the dress so it looks perfect and bustles easily. She will lend her expertise when asked and I am so glad I listened to her about my train - it came out the perfect length! Her booking portal is easy to use and sends reminders for appointments and had very fair pricing. She is in high demand though so plan your fittings 3+ months out from your date if you can.

Juliette was amazing! Based in Mattapan (Boston) out of her home, she runs an incredibly efficient alterations business and deals almost exclusively with wedding clients. Juliette was extremely reasonable, very pleasant to work with, and my dress was a perfect fit. She was upfront about pricing and lead time. Juliette was honest about what looked good and what didn’t, and I appreciated her feedback so much. For metro Boston area brides, Juliette is the best!

Juliette is a master of her craft. She is incredibly skilled, kind, and professional and I knew 5 minutes into my first fitting that I made the right choice with her. She knew immediately when I put my dress on that the lining had been made too small so she took out a razor and ripped all of the seams open - and I didn't even bat an eye. She knew EXACTLY what she was doing and not only made that lining fit me properly, but also created a STUNNING waterfall bustle (with no visible buttons whatsoever - perfect craftsmanship), shortened my sleeves, shortened my hem, put in cups & adjusted the top to fit properly, and so many other details that I am just astounded she got done in the time she did. When my dress first came in from the designer I thought that I had made the wrong choice but once Juliette worked her magic, I fell in love with it all over again. Thank you so much, Juliette!!

My bridal dress alterations did not go how I expected them to. I brought my wedding dress to Juliette's Alterations and was extremely disappointed, to the point where I needed to take it to another tailor to fix her mistakes. I was told repeatedly that the areas of my concerns would be taken out with pressing the dress vs just admitting that the sew job was not good. The last time I went to go pick up my dress, the dress was "pressed" and all my areas of concern were still there. The hem was extremely crooked, the back of the dress where it needed to be taken in was puckered all along the zipper and looked like the dress had been bunched in the back vs a smooth finish. My undergarments did not need to be taken in, however, she took in a panel without my consent and the sewing was so bad that it could no longer lay flat under the dress and was completely visible. This was after she insisted multiple times that I didn't need this piece but ultimately it is my dress and my vision and I wanted the piece for my dress. I did not feel listened to every time I went in for an alteration and ultimately was left in a panic the week before my wedding. I understand she has multiple 5 star reviews which is why I went with her business, but I was ultimately very disappointed and brought the dress to a new tailor to fix it who was also shocked at the sewing job.

There are no words to describe how amazing Juliette is. She is by far one of the hardest-working people I've ever met. Not only is her work incredible and of a perfectionist nature, but she genuinely cares about each and every one of her brides. My wedding dress was delivered 4 months late and left me with only 1-2 months for alterations. Even with Juliette being booked to the brim, she found time for me and made sure my dress fit like a glove. And that it did! This woman is the epitome of good service and a kind heart.. and the icing on the cake is that she is incredibly fairly priced. If you're looking for alterations, stop now and get on Juliette's schedule ASAP.

Juliette was AMAZING! I would recommend her to absolutely everyone. She gave great advice, reasonable pricing without sacrificing quality, and clearly loves what she does and truly wants her brides to look and FEEL beautiful. One moment that stands out is me agreeing to one option, but silently second guessing my decision. Working with Juliette for my wedding dress tailoring was one of the best decisions I made during my wedding planning process! My wedding dress was not custom-ordered, so pre-alterations it was loose and not particularly flattering. Juliette worked absolute MAGIC. The finished product fits me like a glove and looks as though it custom-designed for me. Most wedding dress tailoring involves multiple stages alterations, and somehow Juliette is able to manage almost everything in one go. After my first fitting, my dress was nearly perfect, and she only had to make one minor tweak and steam my dress after that. She stored my dress and veil for me from my consultation appointment until I picked them up the week of my wedding, and she steamed my veil for me for no additional charge. For truly superb work and a personalized experience, her pricing is so affordable! I paid less than half of what I had been quoted from a well-known tailor in Boston, and, cost aside, I felt so much more comfortable working with Juliette. Her personality is comforting, humorous, and no-nonsense, all rolled into one. I knew I was in good hands from the moment I stepped into her home studio for a consultation. I am forever grateful to Juliette for her role in me being a confident and radiant bride on my wedding day!

Juliette was great to work with, she knew the answers to all of my questions/worries about my dress & made me feel comfortable and confident. She also knew a lot about wedding dresses that I had no clue about! My dress fit perfectly and working with Juliette was stress free. I was worried that my dress would be too difficult to alter because of fine lace and beading, and it being 3 sizes too big- but Juliette fixed it without a problem and was very reasonably priced. I came to Juliette distressed about the work my original seamstress did on my dress - the dress did not fit me at all, and my wedding was only 2 weeks away. Juliette was calm and confident, guiding me through the process and focusing on the parts of my dress that were most important to fix within my extremely tight timeline. I cannot say enough positive things about Juliette!! My dress was quite intricate - lots of detail on the top, and many, many layers on the bottom. Juliette took in the dress so that it fit PERFECTLY, but I am also fairly short and she had to hem those many, many layers to a more suitable height for someone 5'2 :) I also wanted to add off the shoulder sleeves to the dress, and Juliette recommended making them removable via snaps, which was such a perfect suggestion. That way I was able to remove them after the ceremony/photos for a more casual look for the reception & dancing! She also added a bustle, which she was able to do UNDER a layer of my dress, so you literally couldn't tell that my dress was even bustled at all! Juliette was super responsive through the whole process, quite affordable compared to other tailors, and she's also just SO nice and kind. She really makes you feel so wonderful & beautiful every time you're in her home trying your dress on! I can't recommend Juliette more and am so grateful I worked with her for my dress!

I cannot get over how amazing Juliette was. Not only was she kind, she knows what the heck she's doing!!!! She made my dress fit PERFECTLY and made me feel comfortable throughout all of our appointments. Her pricing was incredible and she is just the sweetest human. I would recommend her to any bride! I am so grateful to have found Juliette. She was professional and clearly extremely experienced, but also down to earth and kind, and not so "stuffy" with tight deadlines and strict rules about timing, etc like some other bridal salons/seamstresses. For example, she was flexible on the timing of my first appointment, and had no issues making alterations on a rush/quicker timescale when it turned out we still had a bunch of changes to make a couple weeks out! Her tailoring turned out PERFECTLY. From a baggy poofy ballgown that was not quite what I wanted to a perfect, form fitting ballgown, with bust cups and a corset and hemmed and with straps and sleeves changed, all for less than $700, I seriously could not be happier I chose Juliette. I highly highly recommend her if you are anywhere in the vicinity (I drove from Boston proper for her and it was 100% worth it!).

I really liked my dress before Juliette worked her magic on it, but absolutely loved it after she was done. She handled delicate lace and patterns with no problem, made sure the end result fit my style, crafted a custom shawl out of the extra fabric from my train, and was easy to work with throughout the process. Juliette is a WONDERFUL seamstress and person. She did an EXPERT job hemming my wedding dress after only an initial fitting. When you arrive at her studio, she gives you a warm greeting and gets right to work. She’s efficient and honest with you throughout the process, which is SO important for a wedding dress tailor. She’s also very accommodating. If you are ever running late to an appointment you can just shoot her a text to let her know and she’ll be there waiting for you. She also took great care in altering and updating my Mom’s veil by removing old unwanted pieces and adding in a comb with a hair piece. I can’t say enough about the quality of her work and the genuine kindness she showed me.

Juliette altered my dress and my mom's dress and did a FANTASTIC job! They both fit us perfectly! And my dress had a lot of layers and lace and a train so it was not an easy task. The bustle she made on my dress was also gorgeous and she was really thorough and helpful explaining how my bridesmaid should do it for the day of. I highly recommend Juliette! Make sure you read her instructions carefully that come in the email from booking your appointment as it would be a little confusing to find her place the first time you go if you didn't read it.

I recently worked with her for my wedding gown, and it was such a positive experience from the beginning that both my mom and a bridesmaid went to her as well. Julie was able to complete all of the alterations that I needed to ensure that it matched the vision of what I wanted in a gown, and she was also able to explain to me (a non-sewer) about how things could be done. She was efficient and professional, and her online booking system was great in sending me reminders regarding appointments. More importantly, she is so kind and helpful, and the space dedicated to her shop in her home is welcoming, clean, and so organized. She is more than fair with her pricing, and you can tell that she takes great pride in work. I’ll certainly take any dresses or gowns that I need altered to her in the future, and I would not hesitate to recommend her to any of my close friends or family. As soon as I met Juliette I felt confident she would do an amazing job altering my wedding dress. She is a pleasure to work with and made me feel like an old friend! When I first met her and tried on my dress, she recommended adding some tulle to the bottom to make it puff out a little and boy did that just make the dress! I didn’t even realize my dress was missing something until she added it! I was beyond thrilled with her service! The week of my wedding, she had my dress and veil steamed and packed up perfectly! Not to mention I had to reschedule my wedding due to covid, so I truly had been working with Juliette for a while!

After a wedding dress fiasco with another seamstress, I found Juliette based on all the positive online reviews. I went to Juliette at my worst, sobbing about my ruined wedding dress. She was so sweet and kind to me when I was at a very low point. I bought a new dress 6 days before my wedding and Juliette was able to hem and alter my dress within 2 days. She made me feel comfortable and confident despite all my stress. She really listened to me and took the time to explain what alterations would make my dress fit perfectly. Juliette handled me and my dress with expertise, professionalism, and compassion. She truly went above and beyond to help me and I will forever be grateful that I found Juliette.

I have taken the past few weeks to think about how to write this review because words cannot describe how amazingly wonderful Juliette is. Seriously. I was looking for someone to alter my dress in early September, and stumbled upon Juliette on The Knot. I reached out, and she was super quick to respond and get me in asap with my wedding just two months away. As a plus sized bride, I was very nervous about alterations, but Juliette immediately put me so at ease. At every appointment, she made me feel like the most gorgeous bride ever, and without her I would not have felt like my best self on my big day. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my hair, so she picked out the most beautiful hair clip that I ended up wearing and definitely completed my look. Juliette also essentially reconstructed one of my bridesmaid's dresses (I wish I had before and after photos because oh my goodness), and she altered my MOH's dress in two days because my MOH came in from NY about a week before the wedding. Her fees for all of us were super reasonable, and we were able to coordinate it so we picked all three dresses up at the same time. I am so happy and grateful that Juliette is a part of my wedding story. Her warmth, her laughter, and her joy are infectious. She is a gem, and you would be crazy not to work with her!

She truly puts you at ease and pays attention to every little detail in your wedding dress She even went out of her way to ask me if I wanted her to sew in a piece of my late mother’s favorite shirt on the inside of my dress - she sewed it in the shape of a heart and it was the most thoughtful suggestion that I never would’ve thought of - I highly recommend going to Juliette !

There isn’t much to say here other than - if in doubt, go to Juliette! She is so talented and so good at what she does, and such a wonderful person. No matter your body shape she makes your dress work for you to make it truly one of a kind. She wants every single bride (or customer for that matter - have gone to her for bridesmaids dresses too) - to look their absolute best. And she takes it upon herself to make it work!

I started planning my wedding in October 2019, bought my wedding dress in December 2019 for a March 2020 wedding. I knew I needed a seamstress and was desperate to find someone since my date was not too far away. The bridal store where I bought my dress recommended a few spots, but they were a bit far from me and I read some not so great reviews. I found Juliette upon a google search in my area. She was literally 5 minutes from my house, which was what initially drew me to her, but also after reading the positive online reviews, I decided to reach out to her. She got back to me immediately, which is always a good sign for me, and she was able to schedule me for a fitting that same weekend. I told her about one issue I had with the dress which was that the lace on the top made my skin itchy and irritated. She was able to suggest a fix to that by adding a ribbon underneath on the edges so it wouldn’t rub on my skin. She had to take in the dress quite a bit since I’m very curvy with small waist, take in on the shoulders, hem it and make the bustle. She gave me a great suggestion of adding a tutu piece (sorry I forget the formal name of the fabric lol) to give the dress more shape at the bottom. Kind of like a mermaid shape so it wasn’t so boring. She also let me try on some of her veils to see what length I liked for my dress. She told me to bring a friend to the final fitting to teach them how to setup my bustle. I went in for another fitting weeks later and then for a final one a couple weeks prior to the wedding. Juliette pressed my dress and veil and had everything ready for me to pick up the Saturday before my wedding (wedding was for a Monday). However, the pandemic hit us in early March and one week prior to our wedding, everything shutdown. I had to postpone the wedding to August. It was a devastating time to say the least. However, I was so appreciative to have Juliette there to help during that stressful time. When I called her, she told me not to worry, to pick up the dress for now and then once I have a new date, I could go back for another fitting and she would press everything for me again with no problem. And that she did! I postponed my wedding for August 2020 and went to see her again in July. Juliette is a busy woman, but she was so flexible and accommodating. I truly appreciated that because I was just going through such an emotional roller-coaster because my original venue cancelled on me in July and I had to re-plan my entire wedding at a new venue in less than 4 weeks. I picked up the dress the Saturday prior to my wedding; everything was nicely and neatly packaged in a garment bag. Juliette is such a kind and warm-hearted person. She gave me a lot of positive energy and good wishes when I told her I was still nervous and anxious that COVID would force me to postpone the wedding again. It was comforting to hear that. Juliette made sure I felt comfortable and beautiful in my dress. She was extremely professional, has exceptional skills, and is reasonably priced. I’m sure I would have paid a crazy rate anywhere else with all the detailed work that my dress required and with the extra work due to the postponement. I felt extremely lucky to have found her and I would not hesitate to recommend her to any bride. She is an absolute dream to work with!

I got married on 8/18/18, Juliette altered my large, layered, ball gown dress and my lacy, mermaid-style, red, Chinese dress. I wanted to wear my mom's veil from 1980, but it had a lacy crown that did not fit my head. Juliette was able to salvage the veil and apply it to a comb. She also altered my sister's MOH dress and my mother's MOB and traditional, silk, Chinese gown. I had a lot of work cut out for Juliette, but from start to finish, Juliette was honest, kind and patient. Her prices are very reasonable too. My sister got her wedding dresses altered by Juliette too!
