Hey there! I'm Kara Hanes, owner and lead photographer at Kara Hanes Photography, a wedding photography business based in Allendale, MI. I'm born and raised in West Michigan; however, don't let that fool you because I love to travel wherever my client's love stories lead me. I've been photographing weddings for 10+ years, and I get more and more excited with each and every one of them.
I used to be a preschool teacher but quickly experienced the burnout when my children were the same age. I learned so much from that time in my life, and it influences my work as a photographer. As a preschool teacher, I learned how to multitask while the never-ending chaos was happening. I know how to obtain gentle authority when needed but also how to step back and let moments happen as they were intended. These are exactly the skills needed for a good wedding photography experience! I communicate often and when necessary, and I promise to make every moment of your special day fun and enjoyable.
I would be so happy to chat with you about your wedding needs. Send me a message, and let's start the conversation!

We had the pleasure of working with Kara for our engagement photos. I was so excited to take them in my hometown and she was up to the challenge to find the best locations!
We had...
to reschedule from our initial appointment in June for the end of July and Kara was immensely accommodating! She’s got a great personality and is so much fun to shoot with! She is the hype woman everyone deserves ❤️
Her turn around time for our entire gallery was only 1 week! And when I tell you they are amazing, I am not fibbing. Kara did such an amazing job and would highly recommend to anyone.

d we cannot wait to have her shoot our big day in August! Another bonus about Kara is that she provides bridal booklet guides with a ton of great information. These booklets help you to know what to expect on the day of the wedding regarding: first looks, what to have ready for the detail shots, timelines and so much more. I found all of this information to be very helpful and it has helped me feel at ease knowing what to expect. Kara is organized, fun and takes beautiful photos! I highly recommend her.

y short notice. Her warm and friendly demeanor immediately put us at ease. On the day of our wedding, Kara was great at wrangling items for pre-wedding photos, and family and friends for post-wedding group shots. We love how the photos turned out and could not have been happier with her! She is friendly and professional, a real class act. Thank you, Kara, for coming through for us and making sure we can remember our day for the rest of our lives.
