Kent's Special Events

Pros: - Reasonable prices. We paid about what you would expect for chairs and linens. For a company that seems to have a monopoly on business in the area I was surprised at that. - Worked out a later pickup with us. Because we did not want to have to pay an extra fee for late pickup we asked them if they would be able to pick up on Monday instead of Saturday night. They had no issues with coming two days later and did not charge us the late night pickup fee because of it. Cons: - Inconvenient delivery and pickup hours. We were informed that if we were to have our equipment picked up after 3 PM we would be charged a few hundred dollars extra. No one's wedding only goes until 3 PM. This is clearly a scam to get people to pay the extra delivery fees. - Prices are not well-posted. We had to do quite a bit of digging to find their prices online. - Not open on weekends. If you are a working person it is going to be very hard for you to go into the store. Because I am a teacher I didn't even have time to call them during their open hours which was very frustrating. - Limited selection. They had many different types of linens but not very many of each kind. They only had 15 tablecloths in the size that we were interested in. We were able to make a different size work but if they had another reception booked on the same day we would not have had any tablecloth options at all.

They were supposed to show up between 8:00am and noon on my wedding day. They showed up at 4:45 and never called. My wedding party had to jump in to decorate and do lighting and decorations frantically before the guests arrived at 6:00. They caused me ridiculous undue stress wondering whether or not they were even coming or not all day. The men doing the set up also broke the fence around the property because they were too lazy to use stairs so they tried throwing the tent over fences. We were given a full refund with no hassle which is the only reason I'm giving them 2 stars. I would have rather not had to deal with the stress at all.

There is nothing special about Kent's Special Events. It would be wise for them to remove the "special" from their company's name before someone sues them for misrepresentation and fraud. Looking back on my experience with them as a vendor gives me a headache. Working with Kent's is very frustrating. They do not answer the phone nor do they respond to emails. They promise things and then fail to deliver them constantly. It is as if no staff is actually working for the company. It is a rare and beautiful day when you can actually get someone to respond to your inquiry or fax over something that you requested two weeks ago. Basically, working with Kent's is like begging a child over and over to clean up their dirty room. Worse, they do not apologize for their poor customer service as if they do not see a need to improve. The rentals themselves are in okay condition. Most of the rental items show normal wear and tear, but some of them are worse off then others. For instance, some of the foldable chairs had tiny rips in them and some of the tables were wobbly. Their internal communication and file management is a nightmare. Depending on the the person you work with on any particular day, the next day when you talk to another person they have no idea what is going on. Kent's needs some better office procedures so that other employees can see what is going on with a file when a client by. Please do not entrust your special day to Kent's. You will find yourself regretting the decision. Oh by the way, you might also find yourself with mystery charges because of the poor office record keeping and book balancing.

Kent's tents arrived to our March 2014 wedding at a private beach home in Destin without all the equipment I had contracted for them to have months prior. We had to wait 2 hours for an additional truck to bring the missing items. I was ordering many items from them, including a large tent, chairs, tables, lights, and prayer benches. However, ALL of the items were dirty, including the tent! IT was too late for us to do anything but use them. It was embarrassing, after paying so much money, to have DINGY chairs and tents! Thank goodness we had tablecloths to cover the tables! I can't imagine how they could not have clean items to use when they are specifically for WEDDINGS!
