Hello, I’m Charles Bailey. The Kinn Guesthouse story is one about family, my family. Having resided in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago for many years, my wife and I, with an increasingly active 4-year-old, began to feel the need to move out of the city in search of a better environment to raise our son. As a lifelong native, I saw the appeal of what suburban Chicago had to offer, especially since most of my family still lived there. But on a chance visit to see some friends in Milwaukee, I was drawn to its sense of community and quaint Midwestern charm. It reminded me a lot of the Chicago I grew up in.
It wasn’t long after that fateful trip to Milwaukee that I decided to move my family there. While exploring and getting acquainted with our new home, I found myself reflecting on the hospitality business. It conjured up childhood memories of watching my grandfather and father running The Drake Hotels in Chicago and Oak Brook for over 50 years. I remember thinking how luxurious it seemed, a 400-room, service-centric experience with doormen with white gloves, bell hops, room service on silver-domed platters and lobbies that could fit full-sized homes. Part of me thought I’d never be able to live the dream of owning a hotel of my own or of following in my family’s footsteps without that version of luxury.
But one day, when thinking about my next chapter in life, I had an “a-ha” moment. What if a life in hospitality wasn’t out of reach? What if I could create a new model for a hotel? I realized that luxury means something completely different today than it did so many years ago. The modern traveler is looking for more authentic experiences in their hotel stay. They don’t want a huge 400-room property, turn-down service, concierge treatment, or grandiose lobbies as much as they want the efficiency of self-check-in, contactless service, beautiful spacious rooms with modern amenities, and the freedom to experience a property on their own terms and comfort level, like

I reviewed on Google but someone in my wedding party made a hood comment to note - there was a very loud barking dog that was in the room next to theirs. It was continuous throughout the day and night. Honestly, a hotel with this type of class should not allow animals, especially barking ones. Completely unpleasant

Stayed at the Milwaukee location for our wedding weekend. It was perfect for what we needed - we had the entire floor for our family and used all the rooms. The decor was amazing for pictures, the space was perfect for games and breakfast the morning after and Michael the manager is just outstanding. I can’t wait to see all the pictures from our photographer but we can’t wait to come back to the Kinn. Our family is already trying to figure out if we do a Christmas or thanksgiving here!

We booked an entire floor in the newly opened Kinn Guesthouse in Downtown Milwaukee for our wedding weekend, and it was one of the best decisions I made about the wedding! This was a perfect spot for our wedding party and family to stay and gather for the weekend. The rooms themselves are absolutely beautiful, and the entire building is full of so many unique touches. There is not a spot or design aspect not thought of, and everything is beautifully curated. I loved that people still had their own spaces with their own bathrooms, but also could gather out in the common spaces. This worked PERFECTLY for the morning of the wedding and we were able to split the common area between the girls and guys (we set up a pipe and drape to put in front of the glass wall of the conference room so that the view was restricted between the two areas). Michael (General Manager) and Charles (Owner) were both so kind and helpful every time that I met them, and Michael went above and beyond to make sure we had everything that we needed and more! Michael was always happy to help with any questions, and I had a lot since they were still under construction when I booked with them and then they just opened a couple weeks before our wedding weekend. I would highly recommend the Kinn for the perfect place for your wedding party to stay and get ready in downtown Milwaukee!
