Such a beautiful and perfect cake <3, it was so cute to see, the colors and decorations were amazing on it as well. Unique cake and exactly what I wanted. Tasty too!
In the past year, Kona Kakes Tropical Cake Bakery has become one of my favorite bakeries in San Diego, CA. My husband and I ordered a mango mousse cake and a couple of miniature st...
rawberry guava cakes for our civil wedding on 09/28/2022 after a word-of-mouth recommendation from a family member. After tasting the cakes, we fell in love with their flavors and knew we had to contract Kona Kakes again to make our 3-tier cake for our church wedding on 09/30/2023.
Janice was amazing to work with. She is genuinely a nice person, always happy to see us throughout the year, and very passionate about the cakes she makes. For the church wedding, she made a 3-tier cake, each layer with our top 3 flavors: strawberry guava, mango mousse, and chocolate macadamia. We specifically asked her to keep the cake's design with the traditional frosting piping seen in their Hawaiian cakes and decorate it with palm leaves and plumerias to match our reception's decorations at the San Diego Natural History Museum. The 3-tier cake tasted and looked amazing, with many of our guests approaching us to inquire where we had bought our cake, as they wanted to order some for their future events.
My husband and I look forward to ordering more cakes from Janice and Kona Kakes in the future, such as for our wedding anniversary next year ;-)
Janice and the Kona Kakes team made our wedding cake and it was a hit with our guests. Our family and friends raved about the flavors (caramel macadamia nut and guava cream) and th...
ought it was one of the best wedding cakes they’ve tasted. We planned to save the top tier to freeze and have it on our 1 year anniversary, but we enjoyed it so much we ended up eating it all! The new plan is to visit Kona Kakes on our anniversary and order the same cake!
We got married on 9/3/17, and hired Kona Kakes for our wedding cake. We selected the Caramel Macadamia cake. It was DELICIOUS!! Janice was so great and so helpful making the cak...
e process a breeze! They have many different cakes to pick from but one bite of this cake and we knew it had to be our wedding cake. Cake was delivered and set up on time and everything was perfect!
I found two pictures on pinterest of a mix of how we wanted our cake to look and Janice executed our requests PERFECTLY! The way the cake was decorated and how the "sand", seashells, and mini beach chairs were set up were exactly how we wanted it!
Any time we had questions Janice was always so quick to get back to us and so helpful! She was very sweet and professional!
Janice thank you SO much for making our cake SO delicious and beautiful!
The cake was amazing and the display cake was perfect! It was exactly how I wanted it. Everyone loved it!

fantastic!! She met with me twice and brought lots of cake samples.... Which were all so delicious, my fiancé and I had a hard time deciding which one we wanted.
I grew up in San Diego, so Kona Kakes was my go to place for cake. I used to pick up a slice all the time back when Da Kine's was still open for a little slice of heaven. At the ...
time I ordered my cake, Janice, the owner was actually between shops. Unfortunately the new place wasn't ready by the time she had to check out of the old place, so she had to use other places to carry out her business. So trying to meet up with her to give her the supplies for my cake was a task, but we finally ended up just shipping it to her. She was very accommodating, she allowed me to give her the ribbons and flowers to decorate my cake so that it would match the rest of my decor, which ended up saving me money. The cake itself was beautiful. Just as I pictured it. The only problem was that it did not taste how I remembered it to be, it was a little bitter. I'm not sure why. I tried it again the following day to see if it was just reacting with something else I ate or drank the night of the wedding. No change. I still love her cakes, I just don't know what happened that day.
Arles, the designer met with me a few times to be sure the design I wanted was being carried through my cake. She also suggested each layer be a different flavor which went over qu...
ite well at our reception. There were only a few pieces left at the end of the night. Usually I see lots of leftover cake, but ours was so good, people tried more than one flavor!;Be sure to have Arles as your designer. She's the best!!!
