We did verbally discuss the shot list on the day of, but I understand that my lack of giving her a priority shot list beforehand may have impacted the outcome to some extent. That said, I had hoped for a more proactive approach on the day itself. There were moments during the reception where it seemed like opportunities for candid guest photos were missed unless I specifically asked. When we did take wedding party photos, there wasn't as much direction from her as we would have hoped from a wedding photographer. At one point, Katie was engaged in conversation with a guest for around 45 minutes during the four hour booking, which made it feel like valuable time was lost. When we received the photos, I felt disappointed that a number of them were not usable due to framing or perspective issues. We had hoped her to get more angles during different moments, but this was not always the case. Katie told us that she would take about 50-75 photos per hour. We received 280 in total, but 66 of those were black and white copies. The total ended up being 53 photos per hour, which felt like the bare minimum. I was told that the photos had been edited, but they were honestly not up to printable standard, and we needed to pay someone to edit them. We had been very excited based on her portfolio, so this felt a little disappointing. It also felt like some important moments were either missed or not captured as fully as we had hoped. For example, she did not take a single photo of our rings together, which I believe is a typical photo that wedding photographers usually try to take without being prompted. Furthermore, there were multiple photos of less significant details, such as the empty tables and guestbook. I want to emphasize that I take responsibility for not providing clearer direction beforehand. At the same time, I had hoped that a professional wedding photographer would anticipate and capture key moments and approach the day with a high level of attentiveness and care. Writing this has not been easy, and has taken me almost a year to get up the courage, as I genuinely did not want to hurt her feelings or business. However, I was extremely disappointed with the service, and feel it is important to share my honest experience.
