About this vendor
La Guli Pastry Shop is an Italian bakery located in Astoria, NY. For more than 80 years, this family-owned and operated patisserie has provided gourmet, handmade cakes for weddings of all sizes and styles. If you can dream it, these professionals can make it. They welcome you to order your custom cake and indulge in their delicious and freshly-baked pastries.
La Guli Pastry Shop was founded by Paolo Notaro and his brothers, who emigrated to New York City from Palermo in 1920. After starting two locations in Manhattan, the Notaro brothers came to Astoria, where they opened this shop in 1937. Still in its original location, the bakery features its original storefront, interior woodwork, shelves, and terrazzo tile floors. It is now run by Paolo’s son Rosario and his granddaughter Maria, who carry on the family tradition of baking fresh sweets every day.
For your wedding reception, La Guli Pastry Shop will create a cake that is fully tailored to your tastes and preferences. To accompany this centerpiece, the bakers also offer a number of other Italian goodies. These include cannolis, biscotti, butler cookies, and pignoli cookies, which can come in a variety of assortments for your decadent dessert display.

Absolute disappointment. Custom ordered and paid ahead for a birthday cake. Asked for cannoli cream and chocolate mousse. At the party, cake was cut open to a thin layer of cannoli that tasted like rum, and a layer of whipped cream, not chocolate. This was a cheaply made, overpriced cake and I will never return. I grew up in Astoria and loved this bakery as a young kid. When I called after the party to rectify the situation, I was asked for pics which I so graciously provided, sad I got back a snarky response from the owner. Didn’t even make any sense because she sent a picture of another cake that wasn’t mine! Greed gets you nowhere, and neither does your horrible customer service etiquette. The cake was cut in half, tossed in the garbage and my guests ate Italian cookies from BJ’s. Shame on you.
Look at this response from Maria, the owner. What a nasty, unprofessional person. Your family would be so proud of you… talking to paying customers like you’re better than them.
I own an event hall in Forest Hills and had the pleasure of working with Maria this past weekend on a specialty wedding cake for my client. She was prompt and very professional. Not only was the cake BEAUTIFUL but all of the guests were commenting on how it was the best cake they had ever tasted. I strongly recommend and will definitely use La Guli for future events!
La Guli’s was my local bakery growing up. I’ve always loved their cakes, cookies, and Italian ices. My husband and I ordered a red velvet cake for our recent wedding. We worked with Maria. I showed her some pictures for inspiration, and she got the design spot on! Not only did the cake look beautiful, but it was the best wedding cake I’ve ever tasted! It was so delicious that another couple asked me for La Guli’s contact information. In addition, we got this cake for a more than reasonable price! I highly recommend La Guli’s for any event, but especially weddings. The cakes are delicious and the service is amazing!
