She’s a delightful person with a wonderful sense of humor, and we couldn’t imagine anyone better to work with for such an important aspect of our wedding day. Now I get to return the kindness with a small narrative about her: My wife and I have the pleasure of being married by Laney not once but twice. As many weddings nowadays go, we were impacted by the early throngs of COVID. We canceled our first ceremony for June 2020, but as the days turned into weeks and into months, my former fiancée and I decided to have a small, intimate gathering to fill the void left by the wedding cancelation and the distance from friends and family. We organized a 15 person, outdoor, distanced wedding at Greensboro's Gateway Garden Fairy Tale Stage. My wife and I spoke to several people, but when we Zoomed with Laney, it just clicked immediately. Her warm smile, comforting demeanor, and kind laugh sold us instantly, even over video. And on a hot day in late June, 2020, Laney married my wife and I for the first time in what I can only describe as one of the sweetest, most touching ceremonies one could ask for on two week's notice. Laney rolled with all of the ups and downs of a somewhat impromptu moment, and she wasn't bothered by us having our dog there either (as an aside, Laney has a pretty cute one herself, if you see it on Zoom calls). After the wedding, my wife and I changed our plans again. We were going to have my friend marry us, but we knew in our hearts that Laney was going to be the one. As they say, when you know, you know. My wife and I came to this conclusion independently of one another, both thinking it was going to upset the other. And the rest is history. Laney married us AGAIN on Halloween Eve, 2021. This time, with the proper planning, she interviewed us, had us answer questions independently, and crafted a beautiful summation of our lives together. I kid you not when I say she made me both howl with laughter and cry at memories forgotten. After the ceremony, our guests were blown away by the narrative threads that Laney wove. Many details will fade, in my mind, over time, about my wedding days. Laney will not be one of them. My wife and I joke that when we get married a third time (HA!), Laney Margolis will be our first phone call. And she should be yours, too.

Her script is beautiful and meaningful, no pomp and circumstance, just reverent commitment. That's exactly what we wanted. We opted to use the vows Laney wrote because they spoke to exactly what we wanted to promise each other. We added a section before the vows where we said some remarks to each other that we wrote. Laney was extremely helpful and responsive as we finalized the script together. Her presence is very calming and centering. As Laney spoke, the world melted away and it was just my husband and I locking eyes, listening to Laney's voice. That's a powerful thing -- and Laney's vibe helps foster that magic. If you, too, care about a meaningful, personal ceremony more than anything else, I highly recommend Laney. She'd be a fabulous choice for any secular commitment, but I think her superpowers really shine in the context of an intimate ceremony or elopement.
