Her timeline is so helpful and kept things running so smoothly throughout the day without feeling rushed. We were able to soak up each moment leading up to the ceremony and she braved the cold to take photos outside for our late December wedding. We've been looking through our photos a lot recently, and Laura did a phenomenal job capturing all the magic from our day! Laura has a lot of experience photographing weddings, so I would recommend booking her early on in your wedding planning process to get feedback about the logistics of your wedding day. She gave us a great advice about how much time to budget for posed photos (we took couple photos in the UW Madison Arboretum and family photos in front of the Capital), and then she kept us on schedule the day of the wedding -- taking all of the posed photos that we wanted within the designated timeframe. She also made great suggestions on the day of the wedding. For example, we hadn't given any thought to the first look (we try to be go-with-flow people). And Laura came up with a plan for our first look on the day of our wedding, and these photos are some of our favorites. Skill: Laura's background in photojournalism was evident in the candid photos from our wedding day. She hustled ALL day long -- taking a ton of photos often from a variety of different angles -- so that when you look at a series of photos, you actually get a sense of what it felt like to be at our wedding! My husband and I have already gone through the wedding photos several times -- re-living our wedding day. Personality: Laura is a kind and down-to-earth person -- which are qualities that we valued -- especially since we were with Laura from the time that I was getting ready through the ceremony and reception. At the last minute, we asked Laura to stay an extra hour later (you can pay per additional hour) to take photos of us at one of our favorite bars in Madison. Laura was able to stay late, and the photos that she took of us walking down State Street and being at The Plaza are some of our favorites. Laura, if you are reading this, thank you!!!

She came well prepared with a thorough list of questions that were well thought out and tailored to our informal backyard celebration. She listened to and incorporated our wishes and those of our families, like taking a group picture of all of our wedding guests together! My favorite pictures of the day were those Laura took of just my husband and Ime at the “golden hour” just before sunset. Laura was a great coach and the pictures turned out almost ludicrously gorgeous. Overall working with Laura was fun, stress-free, and resulted in amazing pictures. Her pictures were very professionally done and exactly as we wished, and we had the feeling that she truly cared about helping us have the best wedding experience possible - and the best memories to keep of it. I'd recommend her as a photographer without reservation!

nowing that, in the back of our minds, if we ended up hating the photos, we could always try to get someone else for our wedding day. We met Laura at our engagement photo location (she travelled a couple of hours to get there) and right away we felt comfortable working with her - she acknowledged the initial awkwardness but easily made us feel comfortable. She directed without being overbearing and was also open to our ideas. A few weeks later, we received our engagement photos… and we loved them. We felt they captured us as a couple and we felt encouraged about having her as our wedding day photographer. Fast forward a few months and Laura notified us that she was pregnant with her due date about a month after our wedding date. Upon informing us of her exciting news, she had already lined up an alternative photographer to come photograph our wedding in the event she could not be there. She also indicated that, if she was able to be there, the second photographer would come anyway! She went above and beyond in making these arrangements, and we were grateful. Wedding day came and Laura was on point. She was so friendly with our family and friends and was almost like an assistant! Her friend and alternative photographer, Andi, was just as kind, fun, and helpful. During the ceremony, I hardly noticed either photographer. Prior to leaving for the night, Laura came up to me and my family on a couple of occasions to confirm that we had all the pictures we wanted captured. My husband and I awaited anxiously for our photos, because we knew they’d be good. But when we got our photos we were shocked - they were even better than we could have imagined. Laura captured all your traditional shots but she also caught some candid moments that we only fondly recalled after looking at the pictures - and isn’t that the point of photographs? To bring back memories? We were so pleased with our pictures and are getting so many compliments on them. We couldn’t recommend Laura more highly! a. When I initially met with Laura to go over the details, she was very open to hearing what our interests are as a couple and learning the things that we thought were most important for our wedding. Laura had many ideas and suggestions and I found it very helpful because she is so experienced where as I've never planned a wedding before. :) As the wedding grew closer, Laura and I worked to make an agenda that would outline our day so we knew where to have the groomsmen and the bridesmaids when the wedding day arrived. It took a huge weight off my shoulders in the days leading up to the wedding knowing where and when things would be happening on the wedding day because of Laura's outline helping shape my itinerary. On the wedding day, Laura was prompt and jumped right into photographing the dresses, shoes and bouquets. She was calm, collected, and very easily went with the flow when our morning wasn't quite going as expected. After the ceremony, with the time Laura built in we were able to catch up on the poses we missed before the ceremony and we actually had all the bridal party pictures finished before anticipated, making time for more fun! Throughout the dinner and reception Laura snapped many valuable pictures and we even were able to get a little couple shoot right at sunset with spectacular lighting. The next day after the wedding Laura shared a few shots from the wedding and I was instantly excited to see the rest. A few weeks later we received the proofs and I couldn't have been happier. There were so many priceless shots of our family and friends and I can't imagine having had anyone else shoot our wedding. I would highly recommend Laura to family and friends! She is a fantastic photographer, very easy going, easy to reach either by phone or email, and a pleasant person to work with. She made our wedding day fun, light, and enjoyable. Everyone in the bridal party got along great with Laura; I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Her organization and poise in the weeks leading up to the wedding, the whole day of and through all of those family shots... oh my... it was second to none! We could not be happier to have found Laura, and to have chose this follow Iowan to capture our wedding day in Door County. Once the day was over, Laura was so kind to get me 20 photos to use for thank you cards (I had forgotten to ask before) in just a few days time. And then, when the 6th week was over and Laura emailed to say the pictures were going to be ready... Oh. My. Goodness. I look at them everyday. She really goes above and beyond to make your wedding a special experience. I completely recommend Laura to anybody looking for a photographer for a wedding or any other event.

a wedding. While this wasn't the normal wedding planning, we were so very lucky to find Laura and her agree to shoot our wedding. She understood our wedding vision, felt like a friend, and helped plan over phone, Skype, and email. She has great wedding photo organization checklist, which was helpful to make sure all of the variety of group mixture were captured (there is a lot of family combinations!). The day of I finally got to meet Laura and she was even more wonderful in person. She was timely, organized, and ready to run and maybe even get wet with her Chaco sandals. Even with planning, a wedding is still hectic and a bit of fly by the seat of your pants/train of your dress. Laura was great the day of the wedding - she captured many angles of the wedding, was both patient and wrangled the masses for the photos, and most importantly made me and the rest of the guests feel comfortable. She was also willing to take photos of the more extreme elements - my husband and I decided to kayak down the river before the reception. At first Laura was concerned for the state of my dress after the kayak run, but then she captured the event perfectly (and probably wished she was in the water too). Post-wedding, Laura has been great to communicate with. Her photos came out so beautiful and filled with the mixture of landscape, color, artistry, and portrait. It was the perfect day with family in a beautiful location - so thankful we have the photos to cherish the day forever. I am so grateful for Laura and her perfect eye for our wedding!

Laura was very quick to respond to my emails (always just as friendly as the first time) and was always on time. About two weeks before our wedding, Laura sent us a note and Starbucks gift card in the mail. This showed how sweet and thoughtful Laura is. When our big day arrived, Laura showed up early and started taking pictures right away. It was very nice to have her there starting when we were getting ready and throughout the day. The pictures that she took of my wedding were more than I ever expected. She captured every important moment and took beautiful candid shots that I didn't even think of at both the ceremony and reception. She also took many, many gorgeous group and couple pictures in between the ceremony and reception. She created beautiful pictures and had a good variety of scenery/poses. The pictures perfectly capture laughter, joy, and love. I am beyond pleased with how my pictures turned out and I will cherish them forever. To top off this amazing experience, Laura sent us a wooden box with our names and wedding date engraved in it. Inside were many printed pictures and a wooden flash drive with all the pictures. This was such a nice, personal touch and really went above and beyond. I highly recommend Laura, she is the best!!!

for a very delightful coffee hour and exchanged numerous e-mails. As a result, she knew our photography preferences and styles before the day even started, and she knew us both as people. When you have someone snapping away throughout the whole day, that kind of personal touch makes a big difference. She was a thorough photographer during our wedding and reception. She was never obtrusive and always tried to get the shots we wanted as efficiently as possible. We had a few grandparents who were getting on in years and found it difficult to stand up-- Laura recognized it and made sure to prioritize those pictures so that they didn't have to wait around forever. Again, the personal touch. During the main photography period (between the wedding and the reception), Laura kept everyone engaged and entertained throughout countless, countless pictures. She accommodated our request for outside settings, and followed us through grass, bush, trees, and even a cemetery to get the pictures that we wanted. One of the best part was receiving our pictures: they came in a beautiful box with our names engraved on it, with small printed photos of her favorites (and ours too), and a beautiful wooden thumb drive which contained the entirety of the pictures. We weren't expecting anything that elaborate, but we were so thrilled to open the box and thumb through the pictures. We 100% recommend Laura as a wedding photographer, and highly encourage you to choose her for your wedding. P.S. from the Bride: Laura is truly one of the best photographers out there. Her style is classy and artsy which makes your pictures timeless. As we were working through some of our ideas and timeline, Laura was great at asking us questions, giving advice and helping us get the pictures we wanted. During the wedding, she captured little moments between our guests so that we could look back and see people enjoying the wedding. All in all, I loved having Laura as our photographer!

We were impressed with how she did such a nice job at my sisters large, traditional wedding... and then did such an amazing job with our very small, intimate, non-traditional wedding too! I am surprised she was working alone. The color and lighting are perfect and there isn't one photo where someone looks awkward or there's a strange gap in spacing of people. We took bride/groom and bridal party shots at the golf club immediately after the ceremony. They are equally as lovely. Just the right amount of posing. Everything looks very natural. An hour or so into the reception Laura asked if my husband and I if we would come back out for sunset photos. It was really thoughtful of her to think of that and they are some of my favorite of him and me. After the wedding, my photos were available promptly (~6 weeks. I was married mid June the height of wedding season so I was surprised it was this quick) and uploaded to a secure website for me to share with my friends and family. As well, Laura provided me with a flash drive of all my photos in a beautiful box with a wedding photo on it as well as hard copies of ~125 photos (4x6's). I was so surprised! My photos are gorgeous and capture our big day exactly how I remember it. However, my favorite thing about Laura Schmitt Photography is Laura herself. She is prompt in replying to any/all emails, she is thoughtful (we received a note in the mail weeks leading up to the big day) and she is so natural and sweet - my entire wedding party loved her. My Maid of Honor made multiple comments along the lines of, "Your photographer is adorable! She smiles so big behind her camera!" Nothing about her photography felt forced or awkward (exactly what you do NOT want on your wedding day). You can tell she loves what she does and the quality of her work reflect that. I would recommend Laura a million times over. She is exactly what any bride should want in a wedding photographer.

dding, since the day goes by so fast. I'm so glad we chose Laura to capture it all for us. We couldn't be happier with the whole experience.

going to be picky about my photographer! (She took my brother and sister-in-laws wedding photos) Luckily, she had that weekend free and everything fell into place. Laura did an AMAZING job. I love her style and creativeness. She captured all the special moments of our day. I am so thankful to have such wonderful photos to have up in our home and to show to friends and family. They turned out beautifully! I would highly recommend Laura!

She worked with my husband and I to make sure that we would get the photographs that we wanted. And she definitely took really amazing and beautiful pictures! suddenly changed the location where the bridesmaids would get ready, Laura took it all in stride and carried her heavy equipment to the new spot. She had great ideas of how to make gorgeous photos. Laura has an eye for composition, and she gives a variety of options. We even snuck out for sunset photos at her suggestion, and they were some of our favorites. She also took lots of amazing candids throughout the night, and they are hilarious. Laura got our photos edited and sent them to us very quickly. We can't think of anything she could have done better. She was the perfect photographer!

day [I am a shoe lover and she get many wonderful pictures of all the shoes :)] -- Laura went above and beyond her job as our photographer and I really feel that she will make anyone's day the best day ever! In the weeks/days up to the wedding she was so helpful in planning and gave me many ideas for photos to take on our wedding day. She helped us organize a timeline and make sure things went smoothly. After the wedding day she was constantly in contact with me as she got our photos done. The blog was posted a month after and we had our dvd of photos a few weeks after that. Everyone in my family is SUPER happy with the photos...it'll be hard to pick which ones to print :) I definitely recommend Laura for your special day, or even for family pictures as she will make the incredibly memorable.

with our entire wedding party and family, everyone was very impressed. She wasn't afraid to get her feet "wet" to say the least, as we had our engagement pictures done by water where we had several spots where she had to carry her equipment in difficult terrain and then she trekked through knee high snow to get awesome creative pictures in the snow. Would recommend her to anyone!
