Dawn Reuter was our wedding coordinator and she was fantastic!! We rented out the rooftop bar, 54thirty, for our wedding ceremony and reception and had the time of our lives! Throughout the whole process, she was knowledgeable, friendly, timely, and just all around fun to work with. She always replied to emails quickly, she was accommodating during all our walk throughs, and was super helpful in coordinating day-of details. Her and the entire staff were wonderful, the food got rave reviews, and we couldn’t recommend this venue enough.
First, I want to say the hotel is beautiful, the food amazing, and it is in a great location. The reason I am giving the venue 3 stars is because, after Stephanie, the event coordinator left, we were very disappointed in the service we received from the new event coordinator.
We got worried when the event coordinator didn’t seem to know or be aware of the details we had in mind for the event about 3 months out from the wedding. After having spent a year planning my wedding, we had to start from scratch with planning because the new coordinator didn’t read any of the notes and seemed constantly confused. It didn’t seem to change until we talked to her managers about the situation.
After that, she seemed more organized, but still wasn’t on the level we were hoping for. Literally the day after we talked to her managers, she left me, the bride, off the planning emails. If it wasn’t a month before the wedding at that point, I would have cut my losses and found another venue.
The actual problems during the wedding started immediately. The day before the wedding, after asking the coordinator multiple times if any of the decor we listed we needed to set up, they let us know that they could not set up our arch for us the day before the wedding. Following that, when my bridesmaids got to the hotel, the valet refused to check them in because they didn’t have a room number. That just didn’t make sense because we hadn’t even checked in yet.
The rehearsal was one of many times during the experience I found the coordinator answering questions for me without having asked or without asking what I wanted. It left me feeling very frustrated. Once again, the schedule I created was ignored and she did what she wanted. That bled into the ceremony itself when she reversed the order of the wedding party walking down. I almost misplaced the best man to the back of the line because of it.
The next day, it took an hour for them to find the room we were getting ready in, they kept trying to convince us not to use the rooftop bar for pictures when we were promised we could, some of the food we selected for the wedding was replaced by other dishes, and even my husband who did little to no planning noticed we weren’t put in the sweet we were promised for the wedding night. It was just a connecting room and not the one that was shown to us when we toured the venue. Lastly, despite us making a point to let them know I and my husbands mom are both allergic to pork, they still didn’t have the pork alternative we requested for the next day breakfast.
Overall, my mom made a point to correct everything that started or did go wrong, our guests didn’t notice the mistakes and miscommunications, but we had to work 2x harder than we had been told we would have to without being able to schedule in the time and manpower to pull what we needed to off. My family took the brunt of this and were exhausted.
As a family that had two of my family members work in hotels and hospitality, we would not recommend this venue for weddings because the coordinator, Dawn, made promises she couldn’t keep and we were left to cover the slack. Maybe if they hire her more help, things will get better. However, if there is anyone reading this who is nervous now that Stephanie is gone, please know the service we got was not what we expected.
I didn’t let it ruin my day, and I hope it won’t for you either. Still, if you have time, reconsider the hotel or your plans.
UPDATE: We had our reception here on 7/30/2022. We wish we could give infinity stars. We picked this venue due to the customizable packages and beautiful views of downtown.
We have never been met with such kindness by the entire staff. We can’t thank our wedding coordinators/managers, Mireya and Stephanie, enough. They met with us a few times in person to go over details and answered all our other questions via email. Mireya was our day of coordinator. She made sure things ran smoothly, set up our extra items, and made sure we ate and had a drink in hand. We also want to thank the entire banquet and hotel staff for making us feel special.
