When I first chatted with Ellen, I had only a vague color scheme in mind (citrusy florals and succulents) and mentioned how much I liked the bouquets and centerpieces she created for the weddings of two of my friends a few years ago. Beyond that, I left the details up to Ellen and her team and knew I’d be happy without whatever they came up with.
But wow, Local Color Flowers truly knocked it out of the park. My jaw dropped when she walked into my hotel room the morning of my wedding with absolutely stunning bouquets, wrist corsages and boutonnières for the wedding party. The variety of flowers she packed into each bouquet and arrangement was astounding, and the colors were even better than I imagined. She took the time to point out some of the flowers in each arrangement and even included a special (and enormous!) pastelegance peony in the center of my bridal bouquet. And if the bouquets weren’t amazing enough, she also blew us away with a fabulous ceremony arch display, cocktail table bud vases and a mix of floral and centerpieces and succulent and herb planters at the dinner tables.
Ellen and LoCoFlo, thank you for creating such beautiful floral arrangements for our wedding and for helping make our day so special! You can bet we’ll be sending tons of friends getting married in the future your way!
Beautiful flowers, great team. Cannot go wrong with Local Color!!!
When my husband and I were planning our wedding, we wanted to find a sustainable florist and we were so grateful to stumble upon Ellen and her amazing team at Local Color Flowers, where they source all of their flowers locally throughout the year. Our wedding was in November, so we didn't know how much variety we had to choose from, but were blown away at all the flowers and greenery that would be available around that time. While some brides may not like not knowing exactly what their bouquet is going to look like, I couldn't have bee more ecstatic with the idea! In my mind it was one less thing to think about; plus, I felt like it was Christmas morning waiting to see the flowers. I knew I could trust Ellen and her team to execute a beautiful bouquet with my color scheme, while coordinating with my hair comb, the boutonnieres, and the bridal party bouquets. I loved how she incorporated non-typical greenery, such as rosemary, ferns, mint, and cabbage. My husband still says rosemary reminds him of our wedding day! We are so grateful to have worked with such an incredible floral team and to support a local business with a great mission. I would absolutely recommend Local Color Flowers to anyone looking for a florist that is easy to work with and will put your mind at ease with their professionalism and amazing bouquets. You will NOT be disappointed.
We chose Local Color Flowers as the florist for our November 2019 wedding, and we couldn't be happier with our decision. We didn't know exactly what we wanted at first, but Ellen was completely unfazed by this and she did a great job helping us figure it out. She was incredibly patient and responsive throughout the planning process, and we were thrilled with the arrangements she created. Wedding planning can be very stressful, but Ellen somehow managed to make her part of it low-stress and painless for us. HIGHLY recommended!!
My wedding was 11/2/18! Ellen and her team at Local Color Flowers completely nailed my wedding flowers. The flowers brought so much color and character to my wedding. I love local flowers because other than a color palette, most of it is a huge surprise. It is SO exciting finally seeing the creations that Ellen and team Locoflo had put together. There were so many wild, whispy special details that I encouraged and they totally delivered. It made me feel like my wedding flowers were completely unique from any other wedding. I got compliments ALL night and was able to spread LoCoFlos amazing mission.
One of our favorite vendors from our wedding! Ellen and her team are absolutely amazing and will create stunning floral centerpieces and bouquets for your wedding. Our wedding was November 3 and the selection of flowers were so lovely. The colors were vibrant and exactly what I had in mind for the season. Would 100% recommend if you are in the Baltimore (and beyond) region!
Working with Local Color Flowers for our wedding was such a great decision! They were so communicative and straightforward, and always kept our vision in mind. Our wedding was at the Cylburn Arboretum, so we didn't want to clash or take away from the existing beauty of the venue. I also had a few things I was hopeful for in terms of flower type, greenery, and they totally came through!! The burgundy + blush dahlias and celosia were unforgettable. My hair piece totally sealed the bridal look I was going for. I absolutely loved the bracelets for the flower girls!! All of the bouquets were stunning. The loose flowers we put in bottles were perfect - not too overwhelming but still added some flair to our centerpieces. Everything felt so fresh and beautiful. Exactly what we wanted. I'm so happy to have worked with you all. Thank you for being such great vendors!
I worked at a florist in high school and college, and really wanted something gorgeous for my wedding. Wow. I was thrilled with the amazing work that Local Color Flowers did. From my meeting with Ellen onward, they were professional and very accommodating, and the flowers were outstanding. We had a wedding of 175 guests, and ordered table arrangements, corsages, boutonnieres, bouquets, and extra arrangements for the gift table and cocktail hour tables. The guests gushed at how original and classy they were - definitely artistic, incorporating my choice of vibrant colors, and not the same old, cliche wedding flowers. One of my friends even said she wished she could get married again to use Local Color Flowers, and the other vendors had great things to say when they heard we were using them. The groom even took his boutonniere back in case we wanted to press it in a book! Most of all, I loved how the locally sourced concept took the pressure of making more detailed decisions off of my plate, and the result was such a beautiful surprise unlike any wedding I'd seen before. It exceeded my expectations and I want to use this florist again!
When I was thinking about flowers, I knew I wanted to minimize my environmental footprint and buy green and local. Lucky for me, Local Color Flowers, is a preferred florist of the venue I chose. They are local to Baltimore and source their flowers from family farms and gardens within an average of 50 miles of their workshop. This means none of the flowers are shipped in an airplane nor are they chemically preserved!
Ellen Frost, the founder, is absolutely wonderful to work with. She loves what she does and loves working with her clients, and both are evident in every meeting you have with her. She is all smiles and is passionate about flowers and helping you formulate / articulate your vision.
If you have something specific in mind, they have look-books by season and month so you can see what kind of flowers and foliage are available during the month of your wedding. These are also available on their Pinterest page.
I had a very loose idea of what I wanted because I didn’t have “wedding colors” and only had a matron of honor. What I did know is that I like wild foliage, interesting flowers, and unruly (non-uniform) arrangements – no fragile flowers please.
Well, Ellen and her team knocked it out of the park! All of the flowers were stunning! We had 2 large ceremony arrangements, 2 bouquets, 2 wrist corsages, a number of centerpieces varying in size and extra bits for the wedding cake.
I can’t say enough good things about Ellen and the Local Color flower team!
I had a wonderful experience working with Carling and the team at Local Color Flowers. We called a week before the wedding and Carling and team were friendly, responsive, helpful, and able to work within our tight deadline. They quoted us for a bridal bouquet, 3 bridesmaid bouquets and one boutonniere and even adjusted the quote to work within our budget as needed. For a reasonable charge, they promptly delivered the flowers to the site on the day of the wedding in beautiful glass vases filled with fresh water to keep the flowers looking their best.
The team at Local Color Flowers is AWESOME! I knew from the beginning I wanted to go local. I had heard about this company long before I was engaged, but had never worked with them before. Ellen and her team make the process so relaxing and fun! We had a nice consultation with Ellen a few months prior to the wedding. She looked at some photos, listened to our preferences, and walked us through some questions to help pull the ideas together. Ultimately, the way this company works, they can't guarantee the exact flowers because they go with whatever is local and in season from their farmers. I was completely okay with this and loved having the surprise the day of ! The bouquets were STUNNING, picking up the corals, and hints of orange to complement the dark teal bridesmaid dresses and our garden wedding! For the centerpieces, i wanted a potted plant - to cut down a little on price, but also so guests could take them home. LoCoFlo allows you to provide your own containers, another cost-saving option. Since they had another wedding the same day, they could not deliver - but we knew this going in. The pick up process was easy. We got so many compliments on the bouquets and especially the centerpieces - oregano, rosemary + some foliage and some coral flowers. So unique and fun! The wrist corsages are also nontraditional - more of a flower-cuff. So cool! And the boutonnieres were perfect - each was a little different, highlighting different flowers from the bouquets, and wrapped in twine. just perfect! thank you!
Local Color Flowers was AMAZING to work with!! Their team was kind and efficient, and we always felt they had everything under control. We had a huge wedding (230 people, incl. 17 in the wedding party, separate ceremony/reception), and they aced every decoration correctly and BEAUTIFULLY! When we returned to the church after our honeymoon, the first thing everyone said was "THOSE FLOWERS WERE AMAZING!" I know the "unpredictability" of the in-season flowers might be tough, but Ellen knows her stuff - she aced all the colors and style I wanted, and even got us sunflowers, which I said I loved! It was a fun surprise element, but also so so personalized to us. Highly recommend!
My husband and I do not live in Baltimore, but we decided to have our wedding there because many of our closest friends live in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. We learned about Ellen and Local Color Flowers from a good friend in Baltimore. Neither of us had worked with a florist before, but Ellen made us extremely comfortable during the consultation. She asked just the right questions to help us determine what we wanted for our wedding, and she thoughtfully explained her unique and sustainable philosophy. She was thoroughly professional, and she was prompt and organized throughout the entire process. Ellen delivered the arrangements on our wedding day, and their bold delphiniums and zinnias took my breath away. She even went the extra mile to add peacock feathers from a local peacock farmer to each of the centerpieces, and that helped enhance our wedding's theme. Our guests also loved the flowers, and we received multiple compliments about them throughout the evening. Ellen is a true professional and a true artist, and I can't recommend her highly enough.
If you love flowers and want to work with a vendor you can trust, just go right this moment and hire Local Color. Ellen and her team are so passionate about what they do. They support local growers and farms to give you the best of what is available and sustainable in our area. We told her a color scheme and an idea of our vision and left the rest to them. We had set a super high bar, and somehow they not only exceeded it, but I could not have been more pleased. Our flowers were simply INCREDIBLE. I don't even know what some of them were, but they were magical. We provided half the containers and they did the rest, and they NAILED our mismatched bottles theme. We had an eclectic mix of old thick glass beer and liquor bottles mixed with some medicine bottles and milk jugs. They were all filled with the MOST incredible wild flowers. And my bouquet. BREATHTAKING. They were simply a joy to work with, and their process was well oiled and easy. If I needed flowers again, I would hire them in a heartbeat with no hesitation. I wish I had as much passion for my job. Ellen and her team ROCK!!!!
The flowers for my wedding were absolutely beautiful. I helped pick the colors and the overall design/look, but the specific flowers for the day are determined by what is available locally. I found that very cool. I also really enjoyed working with Carling--the sales associate I interacted with most--she was creative, helpful and always responsive when I had questions.
The team was wonderful to work with and the flowers were gorgeous! I didn't have much of an idea of what I wanted other than color scheme and wanting a mixture of high-low centerpieces. The folks at Local Color delivered bouquets and display pieces more beautiful than I ever imagined and were so helpful with the planning process! Thank you!
Local Color Flowers offers such a unique way to support local farmers, and they really seem able to handle everything from simple and wild to polished and upscale (the latter was more my aesthetic). I worked with Carling as my floral designer, and it only took a few photos and adjectives about what I was looking for to inspire her vision, which was executed beautifully. Their set-up and breakdown went so smoothly, I never even saw most of it happening. It can be strange not knowing what your flowers will look like until the day of the wedding, but also really exciting.
I wish I had more stars to give for LoCoFlo. Everything they did was gorgeous, and after I accidentally destroyed my stunning bouquet (by storing in a overly cold hotel fridge that froze the water and blooms), Ellen made a fresh one for me the day of, out of what she had on hand, that was equally stunning! The table arrangements were bright and elegant, perfect for our fall wedding. The process of working with them is a joy in itself - they have a great instagram page where you can pick out things you like, and they will take your aesthetic preferences and convert it into a perfect seasonal arrangement from local vendors. The staff are so talented, knowledgeable, and friendly. If you are in Baltimore, check out their website and stop by for one of their classes or events to get to know them. They are truly special.
From the start, I knew Local Color Flowers would execute the floral vision I had in my head for our wedding. Much of the joy I had in working with them was the anticipation of how our flowers would turn out--allowing Mother Nature and the creative design of these florists to work their magic! The initial sit-down with Carling was incredibly stress-free and laid back in their adorable Brentwood Avenue studio. Even though the original proposal was outside of my budget (I wanted a lot of flowers!) they worked with me! It is clear that they care very much about not only their clients, but also the partnerships they have with local farmers. This is a really unique local business, and as a lover of flowers, I would highly recommend Local Color Flowers for any of your floral needs!
This is an amazing company that provides both awesome service and beautiful floral arrangements! The shop has Instagram and Pinterest, so you can look at what they have to offer on a day-to-day and season-to-season basis, and they do not disappoint. Everyone on Ellen's team is happy to help guide you in the right direction, answer questions, and do whatever they can to make sure that your day is everything that you want. After using Local Color Flowers for my bridal shower, I know for a fact that my wedding will be overflowing with beautiful arrangements of springy peonies and succulents! I highly recommend!
We were thinking about not having traditional flowers as we were married at a beautiful rustic location we thought could stand on it's on. It definitely could have but we decided to go with the flowers and it was one of the best decisions we made. Carling and Ellen worked with our budget and came up with the most beautiful centerpieces and bouquets I've ever seen. Thank you Local Color Flowers. Our guests will be talking about the flowers for years to come.
Excellent. I turned over our wedding colors, photos of dresses, tuxedos, and what we were thinking for centerpieces and they took the design from there. It was great not having to worry and getting a surprise on our wedding day. All the arrangements turned out beautiful and smelled amazing. So happy with the results.
At first we weren't planning to do flowers for our wedding -- we weren't comfortable with the cost, financially and environmentally, involved in shipping fresh flowers all over the planet just to decorate our wedding day. But then we found LoCoFlo. Their floral designers were lovely and helped us design arrangements that fit our unique personality -- we got lots of compliments about how unique my bouquet was, and it fit our rustic, woodsy theme perfectly. We also liked that we could support local business instead of a chain, all the while doing what was best for our planet and our local farmers.
Local Color Flowers (Locoflo) gave us absolutely beautiful flower arrangements and bouquets for our wedding. We got so many comments on how beautiful and happy they were--I even took a centerpiece with me on our mini-moon because I couldn't bear to leave them behind. We loved the mission of locoflo and after hearing their story and meeting with them for an initial visit, we knew they were the florist for us. A few things came up in the time that we initially met with them which gave me some concern that our initial ideas wouldn't be possible-- our budget for flowers became significantly tighter about two months before the wedding causing us to make significant changes to our original contract and then our initial (wonderful) flower designer left the company-- but they were extremely responsive and flexible and nothing was lost in translation. They still came out more beautiful than I could have imagined or attempted to do myself. I am so happy that we chose locoflo, both for their mission and for their beautiful flowers.
A&M
At first we weren’t sure about hiring a florist, or having flowers at all for our wedding, but we quickly realized that DIY alternatives wouldn’t work for us. We ended up finding Local Color Flowers through our caterer’s vendor recommendation page, and we are so thankful that we did! Ellen and Local Color Flowers are awesome; they created the most beautiful centerpieces, garlands, boutonnieres, corsages, and bridal bouquet for our wedding. We had a great initial phone consultation with Ellen, and knew that Local Color Flowers dedication to supporting local flower farmers and using more sustainable practices was a perfect fit for us. Since Local Color Flowers only uses flowers that are seasonal and locally grown, we didn’t actually know what kind of flowers would be a part of our wedding day. We created a Pinterest board to share some ideas regarding style and color-scheme, but other than that, we left it to Ellen and her team to decide which flowers and how best to arrange them. Not knowing exactly what the flowers would look like made for a wonderful surprise on our wedding day. Ellen really captured our “last day of winter” celebration and put together an incredible array of red, maroon, and white flowers in gold vases for the centerpieces, as well as the most stunning bridal bouquet to match my black wedding dress. In addition to the gorgeous flowers, we really appreciated that Ellen helped keep within our budget by suggesting ways to limit delivery costs, and was really flexible about scheduling. We loved working with Local Color Flowers and highly recommend working with them if you’re in the Baltimore/DC area!
As an environmentally-minded bride, I chose Local Color Flowers because of their commitment to sustainability-- all of their flowers are sourced locally and in season.
Ellen and her team were very responsive throughout the process, finding ways to make my desires (a flower crown, centerpieces that were growing, particular color schemes) as beautiful as possible. They were also extremely flexible, adding tulle to my crown very last minute and taking calls from my Maid of Honor with questions up to the last second.
I can't say enough nice things about how gorgeous the flowers were, day of. The bridal bouquet and party bouquets popped with color and texture. The crown was delicate and pretty, and the potted centerpieces were absolutely perfect. We brought ours home and are now using it on our dining table. Even my groom couldn't stop commenting on how pretty all the flowers were.
I could not have asked for a better florist. We consulted with many florists before deciding on Local Color Flowers. I loved the idea that all of their flowers were withing 100 miles.
When we went in for our consultation, I was all over the place. I had looked on Pinterest and had a million ideas for what I wanted. I didn't know the color of my bridesmaid's dresses or what color the groomsmen would have as an accent. I went in with "unique wildflower."
After fretting a little, miraculously, on the day of the wedding, the flowers arrived and they were PERFECT! Exactly what I had envisioned in my head but was not able to articulate. I couldn't have been more grateful.
Budget was a concern with us as well and Local Color did everything in their power to meet our needs and make suggestions on how we could cut costs and get to where we needed to be for our bottom line.
If you are considering a florist for whatever the event may be, look no further than Local Color Flower. Perfection all around.
LoCoFlo is the BEST!! I saw them in Baltimore Bride magazine and loved the concept of using locally grown flowers. We went in for a consultation and met with Irene and she helped us articulate our style and what we wanted, and then helped us with options to maximize our budget. What was the best about this florist for me might be a drawback for others--you don't get to pick out which flowers you want, you just tell them your colors, style, and the aesthetic you are going for. And they nailed it! Everything was beautiful. I was in love with my bouquet and the arrangements we got. Everything was beautiful and smelled wonderful. They are definitely a local business that I would recommend and plan to continue buying flowers from because I love what they do.
Local Color Flowers in Baltimore did the flowers for our March wedding, and they were great. Local Colors uses locally grown flowers and other environmentally friendly measures such as not using nonbiodegradable and toxic flower foam such as Oasis. They have a good supply of container choices, which allows you to choose the ‘look’ you want. They did two huge vases of white flowering quince and pear branches for the ceremony. They did 14 lovely table arrangements in silver bowls for the dining tables and the bouquets, with tulips, parrot tulips, double daffodils, poppies, freesia, andromeda, boxwood, carnations, stock, ranunculus, snaps, callas, sweet William, iris...all sourced from farms within 100 miles of Baltimore in March. My extended family is in the floral business and they were very impressed - which is a great endorsement!
Local Color was responsive and helpful throughout the process, and also very flexible about allowing us to return the vases we had rented. They were also very reasonably priced. Would highly recommend them!
The service and quality of their product was amazing. They were so easy to work with and I had complete confidence in them. They use all local flowers so they can't show you designs ahead of time but if you can let go and trust them you won't be disappointed. They captured exactly what we wanted thru our discussions and pinterest page.
We are from Baltimore and were married here. Using a company that has a business plan like Local Color Flowers does, made us so happy! They only use flowers from local growers, even some from inside the city. They initially met with us and walked us through the process, we were not thrilled about flowers. They always responded promptly and were very professional on the day of. Their office is a showcase of their hard work and we loved going there. On the day of the wedding, they showed up on time and did as much set up as they could before leaving. The flowers were fresh, vibrant and smelled amazing. We were so happy that we chose to use them for our wedding and will definitely use them in the future anytime that we need flowers.
I love the model of this florist-they only use locally grown, in season flowers. I shared my vision for what I wanted but didn't know the specifics because of how they collect their flowers. They delivered! The flowers were even more beautiful than I had hoped.
Ellen was very flexible and patient as I changed my mind over and over regarding what I wanted them to do. I will never use another florist!
I sat down with Carling and my now husband 8 months before our wedding and explained the vision in my head and showed a few pinterest pictures. In the description of the floral design, all it really said was "brightly colored flowers/mixed colors." To some, this might be a little scary...not knowing exactly what colors or flowers you're going to get on your big day. But for me, it was perfect. I just had to trust that the professionals would get it done right. I don't know anything about flowers, but Ellen sure does. Ellen, Carling, and the team at Local Color not only made my wedding day vision of flowers come true but they did it with locally sourced flowers. It's am amazing business with great people working there that are personable and professional and really know their stuff. If I was going to do it again, the only thing I would change is that I would buy more! The flowers were truly gorgeous. I received many compliments on my bouquet. Support this local business. Simply amazing :-)
Ellen, was so easy to work with, and this is coming from a bride who had no idea what she really wanted. I sat down with Ellen at her studio and answered majority of her questions with, “ I don’t know, whatever you think is best.” I am sure it was frustrating, but in the end I made the right choice. The flowers at my wedding were stunning fit my taste perfectly. I would recommend Ellen to any bride, and when in doubt, just tell her to do what she does best.
Local Color Flowers is everything I wanted in a florist. I had a pretty low-key idea of what I wanted for my wedding, and Ellen Frost took my general idea and ran with it. Even my last minute change 3 weeks before the wedding was no big deal, and no one had any issues working with the change. The staff put together a really gorgeous and sentimental bouquet for me with flowers as well as heirloom pieces of jewelry from my family. Everything was featured beautifully in the bouquet with no damage to any of the pieces. In addition, I had a special request for pussy willows in the bouquets, and this made for unique bouquets that everyone was raving about! I really loved working with Ellen and the rest of the staff. They are truly talented, have really great taste, and are all around good people. It was also wonderful to know that I was supporting local growers, and that all the flowers featured in our wedding were "born and raised" in MD. Local Color Flowers is truly a gem in Baltimore, and I hope I have many opportunities to work with them again. I found the prices to be extremely reasonable, especially after seeing the bouquets in my wedding and then asking friends what they had paid for theirs. A great value and great people! I'm happy to recommend them as excellent wedding vendors.
For our wedding, after meeting with a few vendors, we ultimately decided that we wanted to go with more local flower selections. Our coordinator suggested Local Color Flowers to us, so we got in touch with them and set-up a conference call with Ellen. Note that LoCoFlo is in Baltimore, we live in DC and our wedding was in Virginia. Talking with Ellen, we got the sense that she would be able to provide us with what we thought we wanted - local flowers and loosely arranged (more informal/natural) looking centerpieces and bouquets. Even though our wedding was in the fall, we didn't want typical fall colors. She was able to provide us just that! Since they're local flowers, you don't know exactly what you're going to get (all dependent on season and weather). But, Ellen could confirm that she would do her best to get the colors that we wanted. If you're a bride/groom who wants very specific flowers (or roses), then LoCoFlo might not be for you. I would also check out their web presence. They have many wonderful photos of their flowers - and what's typically available throughout the seasons, so you can get a very good idea of the amazing work that they do. We really think we had the best flowers! They were so lovely and fit in perfectly with the look we had in mind - flowers you don't typically see in any stores I've been to. I have to admit, there were a few times in which we had to email Ellen a second time to get a reply (hence 4.5 out of 5), but she was responsive to several changes we made in the contract throughout the months before the wedding. Also, flowers for weddings are expensive. You can't really get around this. In the end, we really loved our flowers and enjoyed working with Ellen.
Ellen and her crew created beautiful floral arrangements that matched my personality and the feel of our wedding. Bravi tutti!
Ellen was amazing when she did the flowers for my wedding, now two days ago! She was super pleasant to work with, listened to what I wanted, and created absolutely gorgeous garden bouquets, with peonies and bright pops of colors. They were one of my favorite parts of the wedding, because they were exactly how I wanted them. She provided a gorgeous array of loose blooms for the table decorations as well, and everything was gorgeous and fresh and tasteful. Thank you Ellen!
Local Color Flowers does amazing work with gorgeous flowers. I was initially a little nervous as I tried to describe the natural but elegant look and feel that I was going for, along with inspiration photos. It can be nerve-wracking to just describe what you want, but not see examples or know exactly which locally grown flowers will look best the week of your wedding. But after meeting with Ellen Frost, my mind was completely at ease. Ellen totally understood the look I wanted, and executed it to perfection. The flowers were truly spectacular - everyone at the wedding commented on them, and people made off with the centerpieces and bouquets they were so beautiful. Local Color Flowers created a gorgeous, natural chuppah for our waterfront wedding that was the talk of the day (and even better than the inspiration photo). Ellen has a special gift where she really listens to what you want and then executes it flawlessly. She is truly a pleasure to work with. All that, plus the flowers are locally grown. I would use Local Color Flowers again and again and recommend them without reservation.
I loved working with Ellen from Local Color Flowers. She was very flexible and put together a beautiful bouquet for my bridesmaids and myself. I also love the concept of a green florist.
Ellen Frost and her team at Local Color Flowers are simply amazing. Ellen understood the exact look and feel that we were looking for after one short meeting. She was flexible and accommodating and I knew from the beginning that I could trust her instinct and had a great vision for our venue. The highlight of our ceremony was a backdrop of a floral curtain made from strings of white hydrangeas hung against a brick wall. It was stunning, as were the table arrangements, garlands and pomander balls. Ellen transformed an Italian restaurant into a gorgeous wedding venue. I can't thank her enough for making my wedding day even more perfect :)
Ellen created beautiful flower arrangements and centerpieces for our wedding!!! She talked with us and really got to understand the feel for our rustic farm wedding. Thank you so much to Ellen and her team!
Local Color Flowers was the first florist I called about flowers for our wedding. Ellen was so wonderful and worked around her busy schedule to meet with me the next day. While we were discussing my ideas for the wedding, Ellen was able to pull all my ideas together to create a beautiful plan for our wedding. ALL of the flowers for our wedding were amazing! I could not believe how she pulled everything together and all the work that she did to create exactly what I wanted. I can't wait to use Local Color Flowers for future events and beautiful flowers for our home!
Choosing Local Color Flowers as our florist was hands-down the best decision we made when it came to our wedding vendors. Having an eco-friendly wedding was important to us, and after seeing reviews and pictures online, we knew we had to go with Ellen, and we are so happy we did. From day one, Ellen was incredibly warm, professional, and attentive, which was especially important to me as a bride who was planning her wedding from out of state. During our first phone call and subsequent, in-person meeting a few months before the wedding itself, Ellen "got" everything we were looking for and was then very flexible just a few short weeks before the wedding when we decided to add a few more elements to our arrangements. As other reviewers have written, it is important to keep in mind that you have to be flexible if you choose LoCoFlo: the charm and excitement of going with locally-grown, in-season flowers is that you will be (pleasantly!) surprised by the exact flower types that you get on your wedding day: a good lesson in just letting things go! But honestly, Ellen and her team will craft arrangements for you that fit your overall vision, color ideas, etc. to a tee, even going out of their way to acquire interesting vessels, vases, pots, etc. to meet your desired look. Our arrangements came out beautifully and all of our guests really admired them. If you use LoCoFlo, you will get excellent, personalized service from a vendor who is not only passionate about the business and about flowers, but also about her farmers and the earth--what more could you want?
I'm so glad that I found this florist online. They special thing is that they use flowers from farms in VA and MD. Ellen is very sweet and was able to talk with me on the phone, and then meet me in person to plan out the flowers. The thing about locally grown flowers is that one cannot be sure months in advance which flowers will be blooming and available. So it takes more trust and flexibility on the part of the bride. Ellen gave me a list of flowers that were typically available in the time, I told her some of my favorites. Mostly though, I told her the colors, shapes, and price I was looking for, and she made it happen. The flowers were so beautiful and so vibrant. I was very happy with the whole thing. I also felt that the price was more reasonable than other florists in the DC area. I definitely recommend Local Color Flowers as long as the bride understands that she cannot pick the exact arrangement ahead of time. Instead, you get a beautiful surprise.
By the way, using locally grown flowers reduces transportation emissions and helps local businesses. Flower growers in the US are often held to more rigorous and ethical labor standards. After the wedding, our flowers were donated to a nearby assisted living center.
I love Ellen and her flowers. She was easy to work with, and her flowers came out great. And I loved the fact that they were all locally grown!
Wonderful fresh flowers! Ellen was so amazing to work with. She is honest and caring and very creative. I can't see a reason a bridal would use any other florist.
Words cannot express how wonderful it was to work with Ellen at Local Color Flower. She is friendly, passionate about what she does, and really seems to care about her clients. She is so knowledgeable about all of the different types of flowers available each season and comes up with so many unique and different options. When we met with her the first time, she pulled up a list of over twenty different flowers that we could use to add interest depth to the flower arrangements.
We loved her creativity. She showed us a diverse range of things that she had done in the past to personalize the flowers for each couple. We wanted something textured and fun for the bouquets, and she created the perfect combination of flowers and herbs. If you are looking for something beyond the traditional orchids and roses, she is definitely someone to turn to.
One of the reasons that we turned to Local Color – beyond Ellen’s funky and fun style – was her focus on local flowers. We love that she sources all of her flowers from Maryland and Virginia growers and had personal relationships with each of the farmers. We wanted to make our whole wedding greener and buy locally as much as possible, and Ellen understood that vision perfectly. We had mentioned buying local flowers to other vendors and they either didn’t understand what we meant or said that it would be too hard. Local Color Flower shows that it is not only doable but beautiful to buy local.
Ellen is a pleasure to work with, very flexible, and was cheaper than many other florists that we looked at. We now read her blog and follow her on twitter. How frequently can say that about a vendor? It really feels like we developed a relationship having worked with Local Color. We would highly recommend Local Color to anyone looking to have beautiful, unique, and environmentally friendly flowers at their event.
Simplistic but elegant alll of the arrangements they did for us were perfect. The mens bouteniers were made from rosemary and thyme lending a more masculine look and the womens flowers were cherry blossoms and tulips. Great to work with and very able to provide unconventional ideas for decoration (see rosemary and thyme boutaniers).
