rdinator told us we should go for an in-store tasting. There, we were able to pick from probably 10 kinds of cake, icings and fillings. We opted for something a little different -- almond chocolate chip cake with vanilla icing. It rocked. We look forward to eating it again in 11 months! We also ordered donuts from there for our breakfast the next day and people raved about them. And the price was very reasonable for the quality we got. I highly recommend Lochel's!

ty of flavors to select and taste. My husband and I have the same "taste" (pun intended) in cake flavors. We went with chocolate and chocolate chip. We selected a beautiful ivory 4 tiered square cake with a touch of "bling" on it. In the back of our minds we both couldn't stop thinking about the awesome sprinkle cake that Lochel's had. About 4 weeks prior to our wedding I emailed Maura the store manager to ask if we could make a change and select the sprinkle cake. It was no problem at all! My hubby had no idea until the day of the wedding that our cake would be "talked about everyday" sprinkle cake. One of the best pictures we have is my husband seeing the surprise sprinkle cake. It was the most BEAUTIFUL cake ever. Our wedding was formal and elegant and this cake added a bit of fun. It was simply perfect. It was fun with a touch of elegance with the ribbons added to it. Until this day- 47 days later- everyone is still talking about our cake. Not only was it beautiful- it was one of the best tasting cakes we have ever had - and we take our cake eating seriously :). If you want a beautiful cake (they have SO many selections), great taste and excellent service- Lochel's Bakery is the way to go for sure! We also got our awesome hamburger cake for our rehearsal dinner there. Next up- Thanksgiving dessert will be ordered from Lochel's :)

personalize our flavors and then they have a ton of sample pictures to get ideas going in how you would like your cake to look. They really do such a great job personalizing everything. At our reception our cake was set up by our sweetheart table. I loved just being able to look at it all night. We also had a cake topper made that we didn't know if it was going to be to heavy. They were so detailed and checked it out for us, assuring it would be fine. It was set perfectly by them on top of our cake and we got TONS of compliments. Thanks so much for adding such a great touch to our wedding:)

had previously had donuts, pound cake, and buttercakes, all yummy! i met with lochels, with a drawing in hand of what i wanted my cake to look like. They sent me home with a box of cake samples ( husband was unable to come) and we ordered our cake. It was three tier, three different flavors (chocolate chip pound cake, vanilla pound cake with raspberry filling, buttercream icing, and carrot cake, cost a bit more but totally worth it!!), and beautifully decorated christmas presents, just like my drawing! And so flavorful and perfect, delivered to my venue. It was a perfect yummy cake for my reception. The staff is friendly, and they work with you to create your dream cake! I truly recommend them to everyone! Plus... you get a beautiful free anniversary cake the month of your first anniversary, so you can eat fresh cake (not yucky frozen cake!!) A very thoughtful bonus!! Dont hesitate, call Lochels today!

nd I went into the bakery frantic 2 weeks before our wedding, they did everything they could to calm us down and make sure that everything went smoothly. We did a tasting that day and they were so accommodating!! Our cake was amazing and we would recommend Lochels to ANYONE who asks!

The girls loved the cupcakes as did our guests. Kathleen at Lochels was such a tremendous help and willing to offer ideas and suggestions. The cake tasting was wonderful and so glad we went with cupcakes because then we were able to use all the delicious flavors Lochels has to offer. I promise you if you decide to use them you won't go wrong.

wedding cake, it really wasn't a question of who it was more what did we want it too look like. The whole planning processf was easy as pie. Kathleen helped us and combined our ideas into not a beautiful display but very tasty treat as well. We got married in Ocean City, NJ and they didn't even flinch when he asked them to deliver to us. Even with the delivery charge, it was still cheaper than what we would have paid in NJ so it was a no brainer. I am so glad we chose them and will continue to choose them for all our bakery goodies and treats. Their pies and specialty cakes, cookies and treats are perfect for the holidays!!!

After informing them that I had a gluten allergy, Lochel's made one of our tiers gluten free, so that I could enjoy our wedding cake along with our guests at our reception. It was delicious! Thank you again for being a part of our special day and for being so wonderful to work with! You have made a forever customer in the both of us!

n-free cake was put as the top layer on the wedding cake and was actually the most delicious gluten-free cake I've eaten (they are usually dry and not so tasty). The rest of the cake was marble choc/vanilla and it was all iced with butter cream frosting that was both beautiful and delicious. There were tons of choices for cake styles (available as part of a package with our reception venue) and the cake was both delicious and beautiful. Owner is also very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

ons of bakeries for cupcakes. I wanted a ton of different flavors, with some unique flavors, some "basic" flavors, and as I live 2 hours from where my wedding took place, I needed someone reliable. So enter Lochel's. Kathleen loves what she does, and it shows. I had a weekend in Philly and she worked around a jam packed schedule to meet with me for a tasting. She gave me great recommendations of flavors that would appeal to our guests (holy cannoli was a big hit with the Italians, for example). When I described the wedding, she knew how I wanted the cupcakes to look like immediately. Instead of telling me to purchase a tower through her (which I'm sure she could have done for a significant upcharge) she recommended places to buy my own tower that would be cheaper and sturdier. Every time I emailed her she got back to me immediately and let me know exactly what was going on. The price per cupcake is phenomenal - I believe it's gone up since my wedding but it is still SIGNIFICANTLY lower than you will find with similar quality cupcakes for the area. Set up and delivery is VERY well done and worth the reasonable price. I decided to order more knowing that people would have more than 1. And people came up to me telling me they were bummed they filled up on the meal and could only eat 2. :) The cupcakes were one of the biggest hits of the wedding. They were SO moist (fresh baked that day), impeccably decorated, and all the flavors just went together. She made a special flavor for us which was also great. And the top layer of our cake was decorated beautifully as well, impressive as I gave her absolutely no direction on how to decorate it. The one thing I'd recommend doing should you choose to have cupcakes is to bring labels so guests know what they are trying before they delve in. The blueberry pancake looks green and most people thought it was either lime or pistachio. just a heads up. :)

My wedding color was plum and Lochel's recommended using an accent color instead, because the plum might turn up looking really dark in photos. I'm really glad they suggested this because we used a coral ribbon and accent in the flowers and it ended up looking beautiful with the floral arrangements in the venue. I'm very happy with their service!

We chose to use a fairly traditional design and hoped to incorporate the lace of my dress on the cake - super easy, we took a few close ups of the pattern during a fitting and emailed it over - the pattern on the cake just beautifully mimicked the lace. I also decided to surprise my husband with a groom's cake that resembled our couch at home with our two dogs laying on it. Again, I just emailed a few pictures of our dogs & Lochel's did the rest. Everyone was so impressed with the beauty of our "traditional" wedding cake and thought the groom's cake perfectly captured our boys. Their service was amazing as well! Kathleen emailed with me on and off for months, even while she was on maternity leave, answering any questions I had. Then Trish stepped in when Kathleen no longer was taking emails, and the transition was seamless. Great service, great design,and most importantly, delicious cakes!

Their designs were definitely beautiful, but I think we expected more personalization and designing in the process. One thing that we did add to our design was extra flowers. The week before the wedding, I had to go in to drop off our topper and pay the extra $100 for the pre-made flowers. We were a little disappointed to find out that there was maybe only 5 extra flowers. I’m not too knowledgeable about the wedding bakery industry, but that felt like a lot of money for not much on the cake. However, the cake was exactly what we asked for and delicious. All staff was very professional and friendly as well. If any Philly bride chooses Lochel’s for their cake, I’m sure they will have a good experience. Just go in knowing what your experience will be like and be specific with what you want.

efore we'd had a chance to try that sample (it being seasonal). Well, the cake at the wedding turned out even better than the sample we ultimately had--it had a great pumpkin flavor, not overwhelming but tastefully spiced and perfect for an autumn wedding. The design was also great, exactly what we wanted with fondant leaves and fall berries at no extra cost. We can't wait to have the pumpkin cake again next year--Lochel's provides a free anniversary cake for wedding couples. :)

booked for appointments but they managed to find a time when I could come in for a tasting. Kathleen was very helpful and I was shocked at how many of the cakes pictured in the book were actually part of my package. (A lot of places seem to say "it's included" and then you only have like 3 of something to choose from). She made us aware of any "extras" but did not pressure us into anything. All of the cakes offered were BEAUTIFUL and we loved the flavors we chose to taste. We ended up with alternating tiers of lemon swirl pound cake and the chocolate chip pound cake so there was a little variety for guests. We also chose a design that was featured on one of the shelves in the bakery but was not yet shown in the book. Everything was included! Lochel's really helped me customize a cake for my wedding without pressuring me into anything extra that I didn't want. I really appreciated that, especially so close to my date when money was tight. Thank you to Kathleen and the rest of the staff at Lochel's!
