The staff at Locust Grove were easy to work with to book our wedding here. They answered any questions we had and responded in a timely manner. The venue itself is the PERFECT wedding venue with a gorgeous backdrop for the ceremony and a beautiful indoor space. They also have a great backup option for indoor space to have the ceremony. There is plenty of space for your guests. The grounds are perfect for photos and for a private moment as a married couple. We HIGHLY recommend Locust Grove.
We had our wedding ceremony and reception here over labor day weekend and it was a dream. Sarah was so wonderful and easy to work with, the grounds were absolutely gorgeous and all of our guests were raving about the location. I would highly recommend for anyone looking to get married in the Hudson Valley!
We could not have asked for a more wonderful venue for our wedding this past June. Ken was a pleasure to work with and was very accommodating with everything! Both parties were able to get ready in Stonehouse (12 in total), and it was not overly crowded what so ever. Ken also opened the house an hour earlier and would answer all of my random questions at any time of day really. The grounds were beautiful as well. We used the garden next to the house for our first look and private vows, which was absolutely perfect. The reception area was more than large enough for a wedding of 75 guests. There was more than enough room to dance and to have the tables spaced comfortably. Both ceremony spaces were beautiful and were set regardless of the weather. We had to use the indoor ceremony space, which was very easy to decorate. The bridal suite next to the reception area was very accommodating as well as it connected right to the womens room. Really was an amazing experience overall.
Any questions?
We got married at Locust Grove in June of 2024 with 62 guests. We worked with Ken in regard to the booking as well as securing other vendors. It was truly an amazing experience working with him. He answered all of our questions and provided expert insight to help guide us on planning our wedding. The venue itself is gorgeous. Our guests enjoyed being able to walk the grounds and browse the art when they wanted to step away from the party. The venue is so beautiful we didn't need extra decorations or other add-ons as it would be a distraction. Highly recommend Locust Grove!
Locust Grove Estate was the perfect location for our wedding of about 140. The estate is incredibly naturally beautiful so very little decor is needed as the venue is perfection. Ken was great to work with and was very accommodating. He’s responsive and very helpful! Thank you for helping to make our wedding the most perfect and special day!
A beautiful venue with incredibly accommodating staff. Ken Snodgrass does a wonderful job and was helpful every step of the way.
We had our ceremony and reception at Locust Grove and couldn't be happier! It was a beautiful spot. We also used Greystone House for getting ready and highly recommend it. Not only was the venue perfect for our needs, but Ken was also so easy to work with - a great communicator, so professional and kind!
Locust Grove hosted our ceremony and reception in January 2023. They were so accommodating and helped us have the best event. Beautiful space, kind and helpful staff. We are thrilled.
We just had our wedding reception at Locust Grove on 11/12/2022 and oh my goodness. I could not recommend this venue enough! It was so beautiful, clean and the staff are so sweet. Ken Snodgrass, who we booked with and coordinated everything with, was so professional and responsive with all questions I had. We had an incredible experience with Locust Grove from start to finish! Don’t hesitate to book with them!
Locust Grove is an incredibly beautiful venue. It couldn’t have been more perfect for our 90-person wedding in late August. The ceremony space was a garden that was so full of life - it was exactly what we wanted as we took such an important step forward together. After the ceremony, the cocktail hour happened on the patio, which was a perfect space to enjoy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and the beautiful weather with our loved ones! The reception space is also excellent, and had a fantastic dance floor and great HVAC to keep the guests cool, calm, and collected. We love Locust Grove and are so excited to have it be a part of our relationship. We look forward to coming back to visit in the future! Also, no review of Locust Grove would be complete without the mention of Kenneth Snodgrass, the director - he is an absolute champion and was always willing to help us with whatever we needed to make sure our wedding went perfectly!
We had our wedding here and it is the most beautiful spot! We were planning during COVID and it was the perfect venue with both outdoor and spread-out indoor space. It was able to accommodate any issue we might have run into. It's also wheelchair accessible, which was important to us.
The grounds and gardens are perfect for photos and an outdoor ceremony. We had the cocktail hour on the covered patio and the reception in the large hall.
Ken was so easy to work with throughout the entire process, from first scoping out the venue to the day of the wedding. He was responsive and amenable to anything we needed.
We also love that Locust Grove is an open park and we can come back any time we want to enjoy the beautiful grounds, gardens, hiking, and scenery.
Locust Grove was an amazing wedding venue. Ken was awesome to work with. He communicated with us so quickly and was extremely helpful while planning and the day-of. The grounds are stunning! I highly recommend having your ceremony and reception here.
Beautiful space, Ken and the locust grove staff worked with us to host a safe event during 2020.
Amazingly beautiful venue! We had to relocate due to COVID and we’re happy we did. Ken is easy to coordinate with and really worked with our vendors to make everything seamless. Our photos were beautiful from the grounds, ceremony and the indoor space. Guests loved it and the museum. Rentals were easy as we didn’t need to order tables and chairs. It also has a full kitchen for any caterers. Highly recommend!
Locust Grove was the perfect setting for our wedding. My husband and I met in Poughkeepsie and now live on the west coast, so having an outdoor wedding that was scenic and accessible to our guests near and far was really important to us. Locust Grove checked all of those boxes and more - the grounds are absolutely stunning with beautiful spaces to host the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. They even had a rain location as backup for no additional cost, and with a hotel next door, it was easy for us and our out-of-town guests. Also, there were SO many places to take photos! And because Locust Grove is a nonprofit, the rental fee helps to support their education programs - another huge selling point for us!
Planning a wedding on the opposite coast should be stressful, but Ken was incredibly helpful and made everything so easy. I was not able to actually see the venue before our wedding week, but he hosted my mother-in-law and family for tours, was super responsive to our emails and always willing to jump on a call if we needed. Highly, highly recommend Locust Grove if you want a beautiful, stress-free day! :)
From the first day locust grove was a winner. The grounds, the arts and craft style of the hall, the cocktail hour patio and the manager Ken Snodgrass. We were not disappointed and neither were our guests. Locust Grove has a laid back sophisticated vibe perfect for most of today’s wedding. Whether the budget is high or low Locust Grove delivered. It was beautiful.
Ken was wonderful at answering all our questions along the way. Our wedding couldn’t be more perfect ! Gorgeous property and venue. It was the best day ever! Definitely recommend!!!
Had our wedding at Locust Grove in April of 2018 and it was perfect. The process was very smooth and everything was easy, taking one part of the stress away from our wedding.
The grounds were amazing for photos and our guests were able to explore the gardens and trails before the ceremony started. The cherry blossoms were out for our photos so couldn't have been more perfect!
Locust Grove was the perfect venue and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a mix of indoor and outdoor options with gorgeous scenery! We were married at a church in a neighboring town and held our cocktail hour outside on the porch and the remainder of our reception inside. Ken was great to work with and helped give us excellent recommendations for caterers. I'm beyond happy that my husband and I had our wedding at Locust Grove!
There is a cheaper rate if you book on either Friday or Sunday vs Saturday. The grounds were absolutely beautiful
Locust Grove was perfect for our wedding reception! Plenty of room, clean, and conveniently located next to our hotel. The bathrooms there are great too-plenty of stalls and counter space.
We had our Ceremony and Reception at Greystone House at Locust Grove Estate, and it was a dream come true. Kenneth was wonderful to work with, so accommodating and easy to contact. The grounds were beautifully kept, and the whole place looked like the fairytale we had envisioned. Our wedding was small but this was the perfect venue for our simple and sweet garden party wedding. Would highly highly highly recommend!
we had our wedding her on 10/13/18 and locust Grove was the PERFECT location. everything about the space is simple yet elegant and had everything we wanted- a gorgeous outdoor ceremony location, great settings for photographs, and a beautiful reception room. we couldn't have asked for a better place, our guests cannot stop talking about how beautiful locust Grove is. oh, and Ken is a dream to work with. he is so helpful with any questions you have!
Locust Grove was the perfect wedding venue! Similar to other reviewers, we didn't look anywhere else. We had our wedding ceremony and reception here October 20, 2018 and absolutely loved it. Everything about the space is beautiful. Ken was a pleasure to work with and answered all of our questions quickly. The venue fee goes towards maintaining the grounds and educational programs. The best part was being able to decide whether we wanted an indoor or outdoor ceremony the day of, weather dependent. Would definitely recommend for future weddings any time of year!
Very simply, Locust Grove was the absolute perfect place to get married. My wife and I literally didn't look anywhere else, and decided we wanted to have our wedding there about 30 seconds into seeing the space.
They have multiple spots to choose from for the ceremony; we got lucky with the weather and did ours outdoors, but would have been fine holding it in either of the beautiful galleries if we had to. The cocktail hour spot was perfect - we had a live jazz trio and it worked so well in the covered outdoor space, and the reception room was absolutely beautiful. There are breathtaking gardens all over the property, and the entire place is just gorgeous.
Our guests were blown away. Ken, Jay and Sean were all great to work with. We really hope to do another event there one day. HIGHLY recommend!!
We recently had our wedding here. It is an absolutely beautiful venue. The gardens are kept up nicely and the wood beams and lights in the reception hall look great in photos. All of our guests were not from the Poughkeepsie area so they were blown away by the venue. They have great staff and I can truly say we had the best night of our lives and are so happy we picked Locust Grove!
My husband and I were looking for wedding venues along the Hudson River when we came across Locust Grove. We loved that it was a historical sight (former summer residence of Samuel Morse), museum, local art exhibit, garden, and park rolled all into one. The rose garden offered a perfect backdrop for the ceremony, and guests enjoyed the shade provided by the trees and awning during the outdoor cocktail session. The West Gallery, with its high ceilings and french doors that looked out to the grounds, provided an elegant space for the reception. The grounds also had many lovely nooks and scenery for photos. Ken and his staff were very accommodating and helpful throughout the entire process, from arranging the tour and answering all of our logistical questions to allowing us to drop off some items for the wedding the day before. Definitely check out Locust Grove if you're looking for a unique, elegant, and picturesque venue for a special event.
We had our ceremony and reception at Locust Grove Estate. This hidden gem off of Route 9 is beatiful and unique! They sold us when I knew they would provide the chairs and tables that we needed! Ken was amazing to work with from start to finish! He responded to our messages so quickly and answered every question that we had! The venue was perfect!
Locust Grove Estate was perfect for our spring garden wedding! We got married there in April on the back lawn and I was worried it would be too cold for flowers which is really important to me. As it turns out, there were hundreds of tiny purple flowers carpeting the ground all around our ceremony. The reception in the large gallery was a perfect space and everyone came away from our wedding saying how beautiful the setting was. We also had our rehearsal dinner at the Stone Cottage which couldn't have been more perfect, intimate and really unique. Ken, the Events Manager, was fantastic and so easy to work with and was always available to help coordinate with vendors.
I'm so so happy that we went with Locust Grove Estate and cherish the beautiful memories I have from celebrating our big day at a historical yet modern facility. Highly recommend!
Locust Grove was the perfect venue for our wedding which ended up being a truly magical event from walking down the aisle to the last dance. Our guests also had a lot of great things to say too. Even with chilly weather and overcast skies, the flowers, trees, scenery and beautiful indoor space made-up for it. I was initially apprehensive about having an indoor ceremony, but our indoor ceremony and reception were both beautiful and it was much warmer inside than it was outside. Ken was great to work with and always answered any questions I had during the process. The price for a venue in this area is also unbeatable. I spent a lot of time looking into venues and nothing really came close in terms of what you get for a venue like this. I found this venue about 6 months before the date we decided to book for our wedding and almost every date was taken for the remainder of the 2018 wedding season, so I would suggest booking farther in advance than we did to get your preferred date. Overall, I would highly recommend Locust Grove. I had such a great time at my wedding that if I could do it all again, I would!
We got married on September 17th at Locust Grove, and could not be more satisfied with the experience we had.
Ken was easy to work with, provided answers to all our questions and was always willing to set up a walk through so we could get a picture of what our day would be like.
The space itself is ideal. To be able to have the ceremony and reception at the same place made it a seamless transition from getting married to having fun. I loved knowing there was a back up plan if the weather didn't hold up for our outdoor ceremony.
We had 100 guests, and the space was perfect, the room felt full, but not cramped.
We had a wonderful wedding day, and Locust Grove in September provided an incredibly beautiful backdrop.
(seriously, the gardens were RIDICULOUS)
Gorgeous! AmaZing!! Perfect pictures, perfect atmosphere and perfect reception!
Wonderful venue! We had a beautiful wedding day and I would recommend Locust Grove to anyone who plans on getting married. Beautiful views and garden and perfect for lots of pictures.
Locust Grove was the perfect location for my July 2017 wedding of 120 people. There were so many gorgeous spots for photos on the grounds. It was so convenient to have the tables and chairs and not have to pay to bring that in. The venue is so beautiful on its own and needed very few decorations. Our Locust Grove wedding felt intimate and low-key; our guests said they felt like it was out of a story book. Highly recommend this perfect venue!
The Knot was such an amazing resource! Would recommend to everyone getting married. Thank you the knot!
Locust Grove was a beautiful site for our May wedding. We were lucky enough to have perfect weather, so our ceremony was outdoors on the lawn with LG's arch as the only decoration needed (but we did have an indoor backup room, which also seemed lovely if we had to go to it). Our guests enjoyed wandering through some of the gardens to the hill overlooking the river before the ceremony and during cocktail hour. The terrace area was a perfect bar-spot both for cocktails and a breath of fresh air once our dance party got going later in the night! And the main West Gallery is simply beautiful on its own: we were happy to have a venue where we didn't have to do any decoration for it to look nice. Everything was so lovely that my very picky mother actually suggested my sister just get married there as well!
This gorgeous, historic estate was not only the perfect venue for our 140 person wedding, but also a pleasure to visit and reserve. It was important to us to have a venue that had both indoor and outdoor spaces, historical architecture details, and enveloped our guests. We booked our June 2016 wedding in April 2015 (we’d recommend booking over a year in advance for this venue during popular months). Ken was absolutely wonderful to work with and was helpful, cheerful, and super responsive. The day of, the grounds were in full bloom and guests loved being able to walk through the gardens.
Beautiful wedding venue. The wedding was beautiful and I could not asked for a better venue. The gardens and well kept and the grounds are a perfect backdrop for pictures. Ken the coordinator is super nice and is great to work with. Highly recommend!
We recently had our wedding here and it was absolutely wonderful. We did our ceremony on the grounds and all of our guests complimented how beautiful the gardens and venue were. Ken is a pleasure to work with and quick to answer questions. I am taking off one star due to the fact that there was another wedding party taking pictures at the exact spot where we planned to have our first look. I discovered this as I was arriving at Locust Grove and saw another bridal party on the grounds. This set our entire timeline back and created for a stressful situation in the moment. When we asked the staff to help, they reminded us that the area was open to public and there was nothing they could do... which is true, but still unfortunate for us. I would suggest that Locust Grove consider implementing a policy which gives precedent for the couple that has paid to reserve the space. Other than this, I would still recommend this venue!
The grounds are exquisite and the reception hall is divine. Ken, the events manager is a pleasure to work with and very interested in making sure you event is perfect. We held our wedding on a Monday and they were so helpful with set up and breakdown. It rained midday but Ken was more than happy to wipe down the chairs to have our ceremony in the afternoon when it cleared up. I am so happy to have picked this venue!
When looking for a wedding venue, my husband and I were looking for something romantic, beautiful, and not a traditional wedding hall. Locust Grove completely fit the bill! It is so beautiful and serene. The gardens are breath-taking and the indoor space is gorgeous. Ken was amazing and so accommodating. I couldn't imagine a better place for a wedding!
My husband and I got married this July at Locust Grove, and we could not be happier with our choice. We were looking for venues in the Hudson valley near Poughkeepsie, where my husband is from and most of his family still lives, and came across Locust Grove online. We were looking for the very popular “rustic” venue and did research on lots of barns, but most of them either couldn’t hold more than 130 people (our guest list was 150+) or didn’t have AC (my mom’s #1 priority) or you had to bring in your own bathrooms. Most of those sites also do not have kitchens onsite either, which we learned can translate to higher catering costs as they need to rent more equipment. We wanted a venue that would include a little bit more than bare timbers but still allow us to personalize and make the space our own. From our first walk-through at Locust Grove, we were hooked. We loved that Locust Grove was a historic site instead of a “wedding factory” and that our money was going towards maintaining the original house as a museum as well as the upkeep of the grounds and gardens. It has the most beautiful locations throughout the grounds for photos, and having our ceremony outside on the lawn in the shade of a gigantic tree was just perfect. The large porch area was great for cocktail hour, and our caterer set the bar up there and it was busy all night! We also had our buffet set up outside on the porch in stations, which worked out perfectly. I was also so happy we had an air conditioned reception as it was definitely a hot and humid day! While some of the decorating rules (no tape/hanging anything, no sparklers, etc) may seem restrictive, we were able to come up with ways of decorating (hanging chalkboards from easels with the menu, displaying photos on top of tables in old windows) that still allowed us to incorporate all the rustic décor elements I wanted without overwhelming the natural beauty of the location. Last but not least, Ken Snodgrass, the executive director, was so helpful and accommodating. He answered emails promptly, always had the answers to any questions we came up with, and was happy to meet with us to look over the layout of the room as we were planning details closer to the big day. Overall, we felt like the value we got at Locust Grove was second to none. We definitely recommend it as an amazing wedding venue!
We had our ceremony and reception at Locust Grove. Ken was a pleasure to work with! He was accommodating, professional, and very helpful. We had to add a tent last minute (day before the wedding) because of rain and Ken was very flexible to make the changes. The venue was gorgeous and offers beautiful space both inside and out. Also, the venue fee goes toward grounds maintenance and continuing community programs; good causes. We absolutely loved having our wedding here and I'd recommend it to any bride!
I loved having my reception at Locust Grove. It is in a convenient location and a beautiful setting! The price was reasonable and the staff was excellent!
Locust Grove Estate is a wonderful location to host any wedding ceremony/reception. We were thrilled to have both our ceremony and reception on the grounds. The scenery and location are just spectacular. Executive Director Ken Snodgrass was wonderful to deal with. He helped with all the detais which made our day even more special. I would recommend Locust Grove Estate for any wedding celebration. You will certainly be happy that you did. It is definitely worth more than 5 stars!!!!
Ken and his team of professionals made our wedding memorable at Locust Grove, Samuel Morse Estate in Poughkeepsie, NY! From family and friends, to all our guest, they were so impressed with the gardens, facilities and shear beauty of LG. I highly recommend going to see Ken at LG to schedule a consultation. The grounds are open daily. Take a look for yourself. I guarantee once you step foot on the grounds of LG and you'll sign on the dotted line.
-Brad and Gary
PS When you rent LG you also get all the tables and chairs along with use of the grounds and reception area. HUGE SAVING!
Locust Grove was the most amazing place to have our wedding ceremony and reception. My husband and I fell in love with Locust Grove. We loved using the indoor space and the outdoor space, especially the traditional English garden where our wedding ceremony was held. Our guests enjoyed walking the grounds of Locust Grove! Highly recommend and we could not have imagined a more perfect place to have our wedding ceremony and reception!
Locust Grove was the romantic setting that i have always dreamed of. The staff was very accomodating and helpful throughout the planning process.
I ran a 5k trail race at Locust Grove the summer of 2010 and thought it would be the most beautiful place to be married. Sure enough, August 20th, 2011 we had our wedding there! Kenny organized everything so beautifully for us and he was great to work with! The grounds are stunning. You cannot take a bad picture on this property....the veiws and scenery are stunning! Thank you Locust Grove!! I should also mention the perfect location to the CourtYard Marriot! My girls and I spent the day relaxing and getting ready in the hotel and it was an easy walk accross the parking lot onto the Locust Grove Grounds. Saves you money on LImo's!!
Great outdoor wedding venue. Home to Samuel Morse's (developed Morse Code) Italian Villa and gardens for the ceremony and pictures. Has modern reception facilities, including an indoor back-up room in case of bad weather. Truly a historic site with lots of charm and modern conveniences.
Had my wedding reception here and it was absolutely beautiful! Right next door to The Courtyard Marriott Hotel, it was a great location, with a ton of parking and the reception hall itself has a classy look with full length windows, hardwood floors, and rafter ceilings! gorgeous! Fit 150 comfortably, with a full DJ set up and nice sized dance floor. The hall has a full working kitchen for any outside caterer to use. The manager of the site was a pleasure to work with and the cost of the hall is very reasonable. If you like a modern look with a touch of class and beautiful gardens as a back drop, this is the location for you! It even has a historic house with a wrap around porch for pictures. Absolutely beautiful!
