Our wedding was on October 1st, 2016. Our first two interactions with Go Pro DJ's were great. We had a phone conference with one of the owners, I can't remember if it was Kris or Darren, but they were very professional. We didn't initially want... to pay $1200 for a wedding RECEPTION ONLY DJ but the online wedding planner really sold us. The planner gave us the ability to pick "must play" songs, "do not play" songs, and it also allowed us to assign specific songs to important dances such as "Grand Entrance" and "Father Daughter Dance"...etc. I'm a bit of a control freak so this was VERY appealing to me and my husband.
I spent hours working on the planner, picking and assigning songs. It wasn't until the Tuesday before our wedding (4 days before) did our event DJ, Dave, actually look at our planner. He called me to go over pronunciation of names and to go over the special song choices. Our wedding party was pretty nontraditional, (my brother was my man of honor, we had an uneven number of people standing up...) but he seemed to grasp everything okay. He asked me at what part did I want our grand entrance song to start at. I was so excited because I didn't know if he would be able to start it at the part I really wanted to enter the reception at. But he said he could and asked me to text him the time during the song that I wanted him to start it at. I texted him less than an hour later, and he never responded. I didn't think much of it, I was busy busy with last minute planning and organizing for the wedding.
Finally, wedding day was finally here. The problems started at the very beginning. Dave messed up our grand entrance by playing the song at the wrong part. It was so awkward for us. He also messed up the speech introductions by mixing up my dad and step dad. He FORGOT to play the mother-daughter dance, after I reminded him twice about it. So my mom and I didn't dance until almost the end of the night, after people had already started leaving. Also - I think he played maybe TWO songs on our "must play" list. I didn't hear anything that I added to the planner for dance songs or dinner songs. Oh, but he did play the Cupid Shuffle TWICE.
Some people might think I'm overreacting, but when you're being paid hundreds of dollars to play the songs that the bride and groom want to hear, I don't think that it's your call to decide what is appropriate or not. Dave told me that he was in the military, which I thought was awesome but he said he was going to be coming straight from his base to our wedding, which made me think that maybe he was just too busy to put the time and effort into being prepared for our day. I was very disappointed in the DJ service at our wedding reception to say the least.
