I personally love astronomy and while in Flagstaff I wanted to take advantages of being in a dark city to see stars. This place was fun and educational. My son loved the kid area. The food in the cafe was pretty yummy. I got the chicken salad s...
alad. We saw a show about the planets and it was interactive which made it more engaging. Once it got dark the outdoor area was amazing. The paths are lite up with glow in the dark rocks. The staff was knowledgeable at the telescopes. Honestly seeing the telescope that discovered pluto was cool. Highly recommend if your in the area.

A very nice new Discovery Center and parking. We visited on a relatively cloudy day so we did not get to enjoy the solar viewing. However, the volunteers who shared with us the details of the telescope which was used to discover Pluto (techn...
ically an astrograph) in 1930, along with many of the historical documents regarding the discovery (in the Rotunda Museum) were well worth the visit - and the ongoing preservation efforts of the non-profit. The Discovery Center has a lot of information targeting children. It also has a nice little cafe and gift shop. Well worth a couple of hours.

Very cool place! The kids play area is so fun and clean and interactive. The presentation was great. The whole place is very well maintained. The telescopes (both the historic and out of service and the newer ones in service) were stellar. ;) D...
efinitely recommend a visit. We were there 3 hrs and I think 4 hrs would've been the sweet spot.

We had a great family experience with our kids and grandkids in July, 2026. We paid a little extra and paid in advance for the 8:45 star show on the 3rd floor roof with heated seats and it was both fun and educational with beautiful dark skies...
and the universe laid before us. The grounds were incredible with the retired Pluto telescope and redlit trails to follow. We also got to see the planet Venus through working telescopes. I highly recommend this activity if you will be visiting Flagstaff. The Observatory is located on Mars Hill just West of downtown Flagstaff with a drive up the mountain to ample parking in a large lot. Get your tickets online before you go as the shows are popular and sell out quickly.

Had a great time with kids. Star gazing is good. We saw sun and moon from telescope but not anyother planets. The night sky is good there.
For kids, they can easily spend atleast 2 hours in level1 play area and science.
Please plan accordingly
