I booked with Mickie ~15 months prior to my wedding date. During our first conversation, I let her know I wanted to do a Yosemite sunrise day as well as a separate ceremony day wit...
h friends and family which she was happy to accommodate. I let her know from the start that I would be needing approximately 15 services for my ceremony day which she said she could provide herself without any additional artists. I let her know that my photographer wanted HMU services to be completed by 1 pm at the latest, and she suggested a 6 am start time which was outlined in our contract. After booking and paying my deposits, I started thinking more about a timeline with that many services and couldn't understand how she would be able to complete that many services in a 7 ish hour timeframe (As a side note, on my wedding day we had 3 artists doing HMU for all the services to be done on time and started at 6 am). When I brought these concerns to her, her recommendations were a) to have my bridesmaids select simple hair styles so the services would take less time and/or b) to have my bridesmaids start earlier in the day (as early as 4 am) and I declined both options. I told her I would be more comfortable bringing in another artist. She reiterated that she doesn't work with other artists, which she had let me know when I booked, but she agreed to be the sole makeup artist and to have me hire another artist for hair which was reasonable to me. When she sent me the new contract, the new price for just bridal makeup was $800 while the cost for both makeup and hair had been $1000. I couldn't justify spending $800 on bridal makeup alone, so decided that we were not going to be a good fit for my ceremony day. She refused a refund even though this was over a year in advance of my wedding day, leaving her with plenty of time to rebook that date; it does say in her contract there are no refunds for deposits but typically that is so vendors aren't left without time to rebook a wedding date. In this case, she had over a year to book during one of the busiest times of the year for weddings in Yosemite. When I asked her if she could please try and work with me and transfer the deposit to my Yosemite day because I wanted to continue using her services for my sunrise Yosemite day, she refused. I had left a total of $1600 in deposits and tried to explain that this was a huge amount of money for me to lose and that I would like to work with her on my Yosemite day, but she still refused to transfer the deposit. Again, in her contract, it states that deposits are non transferable but given the situation, there is no logical reason to not be willing to transfer that deposit towards the Yosemite Day.
In hindsight, Mickie was also quite pushy when I booked. Every other vendor I spoke with gave me 1-2 weeks while holding my wedding date and encouraged me to speak with other vendors to ensure we were the right fit. Mickie told me she is the premier HMU artist in Yosemite and books really fast so I should commit in 2-3 days or risk losing my date. She also automatically adds gratuity, which is outlined in the contract, and states that additional gratuity on top of the automatic gratuity is appreciated. After working with numerous different vendors for my wedding, I’ve learned this is not the norm. These things in addition to the financial issues I had with her left me feeling that money was a higher priority to her than I was as a bride.

nseen. I would recommend anyone who is on the fence to book a hair trial as soon as you arrive. Mickie was great! She was open to my wife’s ideas and had very open communication on what style she wanted for the wedding. Mickie was very prompt with arrival time, never late and was extremely professional. She appreciated that all the brushes were new and sterilized before any session. Mickie explained the entire makeup process to ensure all parties were well informed and also did not cut any corners with the makeup product. She enhanced all of the best features.
We appreciated that Mickie stayed during the hair trial session to ensure that everyone was satisfied. We would recommend just for ease of mind to do a trial session.
There is also the option to do the grooms touch up – I would highly recommend that. It is very nice to have two even brows for the photos. We also appreciated that after the makeup she provided us with touch-up make up that would last for the rest of the day if we needed it.
As for the hair – because we would be hiking, Mickie made sure that the hair would last for all photos starting from 6AM to the final photos at 6PM.
It’s very nice that Mickie came on site to our accommodations as it helped us with our early morning schedule. You get what you pay for, and we would definitely recommend Mickie for any services.

The bride did a trial session and Mickie walked her through creating the perfect look. Mickie provided great recommendations and suggestions to the bride on what will photograph well with the lighting that will be available. I highly recommend a trial session.
Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the wedding had to be rescheduled twice. Throughout this whole process over 2 years, Mickie was in contact with the bride providing support and reassurance. The bride and I were having issues with maskne; however, Mickie was able to provide coverage and you couldn’t even tell maskne has been a concern in the professional photos that were taken.
Not only do you receive the services of Mickie, but her wonderful husband and assistant, Anthony, who is there the day of the wedding to also help make the process smooth. They are a fantastic team!
Mickie is also knowledgable with other vendors in the Yosemite area and she was able to refer the bride and groom to a business that provided the beautiful cake and gorgeous floral arrangements for the wedding.

tos back and was happy initially. After getting my wedding photos back, I unfortunately cannot recommend Mickie anymore. I requested long flowing curls and instead got tight curls. I've asked multiple stylists in my area what they think of my hair, and they said that it was not done properly. I have very frizzy hair and she didn't smooth it out before curling it. It's apparent in pretty much all of the close-up pictures how frizzy and sloppily done it was. For the amount of money I paid for her "luxury" services, I expected a much better job. I find it very hurtful and unprofessional that on the very same day I emailed her telling her how devastated I was about my hair, she posted the video she took of me saying I was happy to her Facebook page. As a business owner myself, this is quite unbelievable to me. If I knew I had upset one of my clients as much as she has upset me, I would do everything in my power to try to resolve the situation and at the very least, not continue to post my reviews when you know full well how unhappy I am. It’s a slap in the face. I’m so upset that I can’t even look at my photos months later. Thanks for ruining my hair on my wedding day. A day that I’ll never get to redo.

a trial and worked from notes about what the day entailed, my own preferences, and sharing reference photos. From all of that, Mickie sent me back her vision for the look — sounded solid — and on the day of, we rolled with it!
And wow, did she execute that vision beautifully. My hair did things I didn’t even know were possible, and it looked effortless, held together by magic, haha. Seriously, it held up through rock scrambling and wind. And so did the makeup! Mickie’s kit is filled to the brim with high-end products; she basically brings a Sephora to you and then some. (And bless Anthony, her husband and assistant, for keeping everything so clean and organized!)

I scheduled a makeup trial, which I highly recommend if possible; especially if you are not accustomed to wearing makeup because it allows you to see what you may or may not like and adjust as needed before your big day.

for our wedding in Yosemite is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. We came all the way from Australia and even though we’d been communicating via email for months, I didn’t get to meet Mickie until the wedding day so there was no time for a trial make-up session.
Mickie exceeded my expectations by a mile. My maid of honour and I were so thrilled with the look she created for us. When she finished, Mickie took the time to check every aspect of our make-up with us – eyes, brows, cheeks, lips – to make sure that we were absolutely happy with all of it before she started packing up. She brought the most sophisticated and professional set up, complete with portable lighting. The whole outfit was so impressive and, best of all, Mickie had the skills to match.
Aside from our fabulous hair and make-up, Mickie was an absolute delight to be around. She is warm and friendly and makes you feel relaxed instantly. We created a beautiful look for me, and because of that consult, she had more time to spend on my mom and MOH. Her positive energy in helping me look and feel so good that it carried me throughout the day. Mickie's hair and makeup held up despite the wind, hugs and kisses, and all the running around with our photographer to capture beautiful pictures. Towards the evening, our guests all commented on how I still looked as fresh and beautiful as I did in the morning. I think that is one of the most wonderful comments I had that day.
