Booking M. Hart Photography for our wedding was one of the very first things I did when I started planning (like 20 months before!). Photos are the one tangible that lives on beyond the day and I knew I wanted to find the very best. I must have looked through hundreds of photography portfolios and when I found Marlies’ I knew immediately. Every single one of her photographs was flawless and really fit the style I was after (think Vogue meets National Geographic). Now that our wedding is over, when I think back on our experience, Marlies and her team were truly one of, if not the very best thing about it. I will never forget how she made me feel so calm, comfortable, and confident on my big day. She gave our large group much needed direction and was so acutely aware of everything - the angles, the lighting, the movement, the location, and even the smallest thing impacting the shot (like my rogue pinky 😂) - she controlled for it all and made us look like supermodels. Marlies was the THE best decision we could have made about our wedding. Her photography is out of this world stunning and we loved how much emotion she captures in all of her photos. Oh… what to say about Marlies? We came for the magical photos, and stayed for the absolute gem of a human that she is!!! Because we planned a destination wedding, we didn’t really have any personal recommendations and simply found her stunning photos online. We met Marlies on zoom, and we were immediately sold. We felt like we had known her for years! We chatted for way too long and knew that we were going to be in great hands! After we booked Marlies, we took a trip to California to figure out some details. She was wonderful and met us for lunch to chat and get a feel for our vibe. She was even better in person! We knew without a doubt that we made the right decision. From that point on, Marlies helped us with numerous decisions, like helping me book my makeup artist and recommending our videographer. She was available to us whenever we needed, and that was very comforting when booking everything from afar. The wedding day itself was a whirlwind, and I barely remember it, but I do remember Marlies was an absolute true professional and knew exactly what needed to be done and when. She took control when it needed to be taken, gave such perfect directions, and then hung back discreetly taking photos while we enjoyed our family and friends. So much so, that by the time she left, I was disappointed that I didn’t get to spend more time with her! We have only gotten the sneak peeks so far, but they are so amazing!! I cannot even begin to share just how amazing Marlies was and how lucky we were to have her as our wedding photographer!! I was truly blown away by our photos and have no idea how we are going to ever pick our favorites to put into our album or hang on our wall. Marlies felt more like a friend than a vendor, and made us feel and look like rock stars in front of the camera, even though we are totally awkward in real life! The best decision I made about my wedding, besides my husband, was having Marlies photograph our micro wedding/elopement. She has unmatched talent. We did an adventure elopement on Kauai and Marlies made it fun. She also researched the best areas to get all the different types of photos we wanted including waterfall, beach, cliff side. ALL of my friends and family have said they are the best wedding photos they have ever seen. Marlies is the perfect balance of professional and fun. I work in events and have worked with MANY photographers, but NONE like Marlies. She is the most passionate photographer I have ever worked with. When the golden light is shining, she is giddy and capturing your dream shot. Don't waste another second looking for other photographers. Had an amazing experience with Marlies! We had her do our engagement shoot, and from day 1 she was extremely engaged and helpful in setting up our day and making our vision come true. We spent a couple of hours at Vazquez Rocks north of LA, and Marlies was able to capture the best moments by taking advantage of the different lighting throughout the evening and the diverse backdrops of the area. Can't say enough nice things about Marlies. She's such a talented photographer, but she is so much more than that. Besides the person I married, Marlies is the best decision that went into my wedding. She is wonderful to work with -- putting the camera-shy at ease and sensing intuitively when to assert herself and when to fade into the background. In short, she is as capable with people as she is with a camera and the results speak for themselves.

My parents planned a large Indian wedding to celebrate the marriage of my wife and I after we had a smaller, personal ceremony. We hired Marlies to shoot the weekend, which was chaotic, scattered and often disorganized. Marlies was incredibly professional and stayed sharp despite all the schedule changes. She was always present and went with the flow. She did it all with a smile on her face too, which made it that much better! The photos from each stage were beyond incredible and she truly made lemonade from lemons. It's nice to have an amazing photographer, but it was amazing to have one who was so adaptive, aware and present. It made it so easy to just let her do her job and not have to worry about that aspect of the event. To top it all off, she makes it very easy to be photographed and understands everything from family dynamics for group portraits all the way down to more intimate moments with just the two of us. HIGHLY recommend Marlies! Guaranteed you'd be hard pressed to find someone more talented, professional and personable.

Marlies was amazing from start to finish! She was so responsive when I first reached out to her that I think I received a response from her within half an hour of having messaged her. She was also very transperent when it came to pricing and the packages that she offered. We picked the package that came with an engagement shoot, which I was so glad we did! It really helped us to get to know her shooting style and what to do when she asked us to do certain things on the day of the wedding. She literally told us what to do with every glance, placement and facial muscle movement, which you think would make you look awkward and not natural, but it was the complete opposite! We came out looking totally natural and effortless. She just knows how to make you positioned to look the most flattering and she HATES when things make you look purposely posed! I really appreciated this feedback during the shoot because so many photographers will just let you continue to make ugly faces or don't provide you with the feedback or adjustments you need to make to look your best. She also didn't mind getting down and dirty as we chose Vasquez Rocks in California as the site of our engagement shoot, which involved climbing rocks and kicking up dirt. By the time the engagement shoot was over, we were SO comfortable with her. The photos themselves came out AMAZING! I knew that on the day of the wedding I could 100% trust her and knew to just go with her instructions, even if it feels like why am I doing this at the time. On the day of our wedding she was totally on it. When I was having my one melt down where I was running behind for my first look photos because my breast tape kept showing through my dress, she asked everyone to leave the room and ended up being the one to tell me we weren't going to leave until my tape was on just right and then even went as far as to help me cut the tape and place my dress so it finally didn't show! I was so grateful that someone could calm me down in that moment and tell me it was going to be okay! The wedding photos themselves are beyond gorgeous. I couldn't have been happier with having hired Marlies as our photographer! Everyone I know has told me how amazing our photos were!

Marlies is the second best decision I made for my wedding day (second only to my loving husband)! Her artistic eye and penchant for always catching the best natural lighting will transform your "wedding pictures" into pieces of art that can adorn your home for a lifetime. Not only is she excellent at what she does with the perfect combination of artistic flair, technical ability, and passion for her craft, she is an amazing person and an absolute delight to have by your side on what could be an otherwise stressful day. Marlies’ work is truly cinematic. She has the ability to capture intimate moments with a unique perspective and incredible use of lighting. Her photos are pieces of art and the images look like they’re plucked out of movie scenes. You don’t have to personally know the subjects to relate to the emotions that she captures with her camera. Marlies is also very disarming and easy to work with.

Marlies was the most wonderful wedding photographer we could have ever hoped for! Marlies was a dream to work with from the start. She took two people who are not super comfortable in front of the camera and gave us tools to help us relax and enjoy the moment in front of the lens. Wow. Where to begin... First off, having now gone through our wedding day and looking back, we would highly recommend that you don’t go cheap on photography. Your wedding day will go by really quickly and depending on if there’s an open bar, your memory might be a little hazy. Invest in photos! This is seriously the best piece of advice someone can give you for your wedding day. We did and we are grateful to have listened. So, I’m paying it forward... Invest in photos! We felt lucky to have found Marlies as our photographer for our wedding and engagement shoot as all the photos came out UhhMazing! Marlies is a fun loving and easy going personality to work with that makes you feel very comfortable from the start. She’s full of positive energy and she definitely knows her stuff! She’s a visionary and extremely passionate about what she does and the shots she takes are quite dramatic and picturesque. She’s very flexible to work with and being knowledgeable in the wedding industry, she also provided us with other recommendations and vendor contacts as well which we were very surprised by being that our wedding was a destination wedding. We absolutely LOVE Marlies' work! She personally shot our Engagement Photos and she and her wonderful team shot our Wedding for (10) hours of coverage. Photos were the absolute most important thing for our wedding for my husband and I, so the decision to choose her was not a light one. My husband and I are so incredibly grateful that we chose Marlies to be the photographer for our wedding. As for many couples, photography and videography were two elements we wanted to be absolutely sure we picked the right vendors. I'm thrilled that Marlies was not just right for us, but totally perfect. In a world with over-exposed/sepia-toned/filtered face-tuned wedding photography, Marlies stands far apart. Her photos are beautifully composed, properly exposed and corrected, but not overdone. She has amazing and unique ideas while also capturing the classic details/family shots beautifully as well. The product was turned around in a timely way and we couldn't be more satisfied with the end product. My husband and I aren't that photogenic and often get to tense for pictures, but somehow Marlies got us to forget she was there and made us feel and look like models. Five stars doesn’t even do justice to rate Marlies and her work! In my view to see the work of a photographer is not enough to know if he/she is a good fit for you and your partner - there needs to be a connection and comfort level. There were several photographers work that we really loved for different reasons, but after we spoke and then met with Marlies my husband and I both knew she was the perfect fit for us. Her work is not only beautiful, but so is she as a person. The passion she has for what she does shows through in her photos. MARLIES IS BRILLIANT! Having Marlies shoot our wedding was hands-down the best choice we made in this entire wedding planning process. No question. She captured every moment of our wedding in the most beautiful way possible (she is a genius with light!) But she did so much more than that. Marlies photographs the feelings. I don't know how else to describe it. She captures the subtle glances, the light glinting off a tear rolling down my cheek during the vows, the look in my partner's eyes the second he saw me for the first time in my wedding dress. And the way she perfectly captures the emotions allows us to relive each moment post-wedding, which is a huge gift. Because, quite frankly, as much as you want to remember your wedding day, it will be a blur of feelings and faces. We had numerous guests from our wedding comment on how she was the best wedding photographer they'd ever seen, too, and how she was so kind and unobtrusive. Marlies makes herself invisible in the moment so you're not thinking about the fact that you're being photographed, and yet she somehow manages to be everywhere and document it all perfectly! Her teamwork with her talented assistant was amazing, as well. Marlies' photos can turn a random moment into a spectacular work of art. As far as I was concerned, choosing a photographer was the most important choice in this process, and I could not be happier that we chose Marlies. In addition to the wedding itself, her engagement shoot was AMAZING and such a blast. She uses that time to help you get comfortable in front of her camera, so by the time your wedding roles around, you have a shared language with her. What I love about Marlies is that she's down to earth, relatable, creative, and knows how to get the job done both efficiently and effectively. We discovered Marlies through The Knot, and we were immediately floored by her work. Getting in touch was easy and she was always quick to respond to our emails, which was especially important to us since we were doing all our wedding planning from outside the country. On our trip to LA to see our wedding venue, Marlies made time for a quick coffee with us, and it was like sitting down and having a chat with an old friend. She talked about what our expectations were for our wedding photographs and about her services and options (like her photo album offers, second shooter, etc). We walked away feeling very comfortable and confident in our choice of photographer. On the day of the wedding, she and her assistant went to the bride's suite, and an associate of hers came to the groom's room. Marlies and her team made posing for photos easy and comfortable, and captured many candid moments throughout the prep and the wedding/reception. I found Marlies on The Knot website. My husband already booked a photographer, but after showing him her website he hesitantly let me cancel his person to hire her. And we are both EXTREMELY HAPPY we did! Our wedding photos rotate on a digital frame in our home and every single one of the pictures brings us so much joy. She captured so many candid moments with perfection. The images were retouched so well--meaning they don't look photoshopped at all--just like we look that good all the time ;). Marlies was patient, kind, a pleasure to have around on our very special day.

Words really cannot describe the experience we had with Marlies as our wedding photographer. She is simply amazing, professional, talented, and so down to earth. I remember while my husband and I were considering photographers, our first meeting was genuine and full of laughter like we had reconnected with an old friend. The last thing we should be worried about on our wedding day is where we want to take our photos or with whom, and Marlies was excellent at directing us and making sure we got all the photos we wanted. She's also warm and personable, so the photos show a level of comfort that definitely isn't a guarantee when you have a stranger taking hundreds of photos of you! Marlies is an amazing photographer who I would highly recommend to couples who want photos they can cherish for a lifetime. Out of the 12 different wedding photographers I interviewed to shoot my dream wedding, I knew it had to be Marlies. She was different than the others. Most were bland, rigid, and had overlapping styles. After taking a look at her book I knew I wanted to meet with her. She was so accommodating with my crazy schedule. Not only did she allow my future husband, Bradley, and I to go over every point we had on our obnoxiously long checklist, but she made me feel at ease. Rather than being stressed out about the process she got me excited! Having a relaxed joyful photographer who is able to capture the authenticity in every important moment is damn near impossible to find. Like I said I interviewed 12 different photographers! Marlies was my 🦄! I have gotten sooo many compliments on my wedding book and have more amazing shots than I know what to do with. Marlies is spectacular! She brought such a positive energy to our wedding day, and we were so grateful that we hired her. My wife and I wanted a mix of photojournalistic shots but also some more classic looking photos, and Marlies knew exactly what we were looking for and couldn't have done a better job!
