We had very high expectations for Mad Hatter Catering, but unfortunately our experience was disappointing overall. Throughout the planning process, communication with the catering ...
team was sparse and often difficult, which created unnecessary stress leading up to our wedding day. Better and more consistent communication would have made a huge difference in our overall experience.
On the day of the wedding, the food quality did not meet the standard we were expecting, especially for the price point. Service was also noticeably slow, and the bar service in particular was lacking. We were told one thing regarding timing and expectations, but the execution fell short, which was frustrating on such an important day.
That said, the staff was polite and there were a few dishes that guests seemed to enjoy, so I do appreciate the effort that went into serving such a large event. I truly wanted to love our experience, which makes this review especially disappointing to write. Unfortunately, based on our experience, I do not feel the service and quality matched the expectations that were set.
I cannot express how disappointed we were in this caterer. They did not do what they were supposed to do. The food was disgusting. The eggs were greenish brown. Everything was burn...
ed. No one ate and no one told anyone that the food was good as the caterer said, and I don’t know how he would know that considering he wasn’t there, there was only two girls there that put out some throw away, chafing dishes, and left. They did not serve. We took the tops off of the chafing dishes, so the guest could eat, but they did not. We’ve reached out numerous times to this vendor. They will not do anything. They said we’re being picky and are just trying to get a refund. I’m very sorry for the personal problems. The chef was having that day. I would wish that on no one however he did ruin my baby’s day by not doing what he said he would do and providing substandard food
The food was extremely overcooked. Eggs were literally green and grey. I immensely regret my decision to have this vendor. We tried to reach out for a partial refund and was denied...

I can’t stress enough how much I wish we hadn’t used these caterers. We had a breakfast bar that included green eggs, burnt sausage, and cold food. When we tried to get a refund,...
they claimed that the contract was fulfilled and we were out of luck. My guests didn’t eat! So disappointed.
I'd give them less than one star but it's not possible. My sister hired these "people" to cater her wedding this past November. They were paid upfront by our father, and then again...
for the add on when she found out there were going to be more people. To say their catering was horrible is an understatement. They were late, didn't set the food up correctly, were missing food, and didn't think it was a big deal. My sisters wedding was in a converted garage area, so it was fairly cold, and none of the food had warmers under them. When asked why this was the situation the owner, Ben, stated that the girl was new and that they would take care of the situation. They didn't. First a refund was offered for roughly 474 and then for 575 but was never sent. They jerked my sister and my dad around for weeks, and even the credit card company by submitting false information. I would NEVER suggest this place be used by anyone.
I wish I could give this place zero stars. We used them for our wedding rehearsal October 10 & our wedding day October 11 and I wish I could go back and change things.
Before ...
you see the laundry list of issues below- note that the owner agreed to the partial refund we requested on October 17 and I have been playing follow up for THREE MONTHS at this point. He has said they’re processing the refund multiple times and NOTHING. And now the owner is totally ghosting us and I believe blocked my phone number as the calls are now going straight to voice mail. Do NOT spend your hard earned money with these people.
Friday (rehearsal):
⁃ Confirmed arrival time was 2:30/3pm. The staff arrived at 3:30.
⁃ Didn’t bring enough food, tortillas and condiments all ran out, and we ended up having at least 10 people less than the final headcount so there should’ve been plenty left.
Saturday (Wedding day):
⁃ Confirmed arrival time was 2pm to be completely set up by 3:30pm, your staff arrived at 3:15pm
⁃ No gloves for serving
⁃ One of the staff members brought her child. The child was handing out alcohol, serving food. The child also was on the dance floor, and was first to our dessert table before the guests.
⁃ They said some of the fried green tomato appetizers were made with chicken instead of tomatoes? I am vegetarian so I couldn’t try them since some had meat in them. This was the one appetizer I chose and was excited for.
⁃ The appetizers were supposed to be passed confirmed by our emails, and they were not.
⁃ One of the servers was taking shots with the guests.
⁃ Bar: Requested and paid for the bar furniture piece to be brought, it was not brought- we based the set up of the evening around this. But not only that, NOTHING for the bar was brought. Not even a bartender?! None of the garnishments, or cups, cocktail napkins, mixers, etc. NOTHING!
⁃ None of the staff there had their ABC license. We had specifically made a bar sign that specified what was in our contract. My bridesmaids had to leave our wedding party photos to go to dollar general to get what they could to try to fill in the gaps. We still didn’t have everything we needed. And we had to pay MORE for things we already paid This catering company for.
⁃ The staff were insanely rude because we were asking them what happened and why we didn’t have everything we needed.
Both days:
⁃ Didn’t bring tables, or linens as promised on email 9/25. They only brought black linens day 2 but didn't use them because there were not enough.
⁃ the staff were dressed unprofessionally. Their company T shirt was fine but with leggings for pants and ugg boots didn’t seem appropriate for a wedding.
Avoid this place at all costs.
I scheduled my first tasting with MadHatter and their communication was great in the beginning. I live 2 hours away, but the facility is super close to my wedding venue. I showed u...
p to the tasting, and the first thing by the employee was, “Bare with me, this is my first time doing this…” Most of the food was good, but I none of it was plated as described on the website. There were also only two settings, despite me paying for 4. Throughout the entire tasting, she continued saying that she had no clue what she was doing, and there was no instruction for her. I followed up with them and voiced my concerns, they told me that they were having a rough weekend with having two employees sick, and that they would be happy to do a second tasting. We make the 2 hour drive again. When we walk in, there is a younger, very sweet, girl waiting on us. The first thing she said was “I’m so sorry, our coordinator had a family emergency and this is my first time doing this.” Once again, only two plates were prepared with one entree instead of the 4 that I paid for initially. I was still trying to give it the benefit of the doubt as I understand life happens. I took one bite of the rice and it was straight mush. I called the owner, and he said that he was at a wedding and wasn’t able to be there. I would be very careful with booking with this company.
I can not recommend Madhatter Catering enough! They were super nice and accommodating. And the food was wonderful! We had the pasta bar for my daughter's wedding and cheese and ...
fruit and crackers for starters.
