We used Mad Hatter in Durham for desserts at our March wedding, and we were blown away at how amazing their dessert bars were. We wanted something different than cake, and Elizabeth helped us make a great selection. She answered all our many questions and was incredibly helpful! They have a great selection and also have menu options that cater to guests who may have allergies as well. We got so many compliments from our guests stating how delicious and fresh the desserts were. We highly recommend reaching out to Mad Hatter for your dessert catering needs if you are looking for something unique that you and your guests will enjoy.
Absolutely the best bakery in the area. We used them for our wedding cake and the sheet cakes. Sometimes heavy on the buttercream but all of our guests and the staff wanted seconds. The strawberry is easily my favorite. The vanilla was a hit as well. We added the flowers but they offer that as well.
Mad Hatter's Bake shop was a great choice for our wedding! They were affordable and the tiramisu cake and cupcakes were delicious. The tasting was fun and gave us many options to consider. Prompt communication at times was difficult, but overall, we had a fantastic experience with Mad Hatter's and are so happy they were a part of our big day!
My wife and I used Mad Hatters for our recent wedding to provide a cake and cupcakes for dessert for our guests. As Duke Alumni, this was an easy choice! Not only did they prepare everything, but delivered the sweets right on schedule and kept it hassle free. For cupcake flavors, the black and whites, lemons, strawberry shortcakes, and peanut butter chocolates were all delicious, getting lots of compliments from out guests. I’d recommend to anyone looking for cakes / cupcakes at a fair price in the Durham area.
Having a wedding cake that was not only beautiful but also delicious was really important to us and Black & White cake is pretty much as good as it gets! I was very impressed by how moist the cake was-- there was zero quality degradation with the large scale of a 4-tiered cake compared to a standard-sized one, which has not always been my experience with other bakeries. Elizabeth was wonderful about accommodating my very specific design requests for each tier and the cake was absolutely gorgeous! I would highly recommend working with Mad Hatter on your wedding cake.
We had a small wedding and originally our cake was going to be made by a family member, but then something came up. I have been to Madhatter for breakfast and eaten their pastries before and knew everything was delicious. I had never tried any of Madhatter's cakes before, but they have a good reputation and everything I've ever had there was good, so I just trusted the cake would be good. I emailed them 4 days before my wedding and asked if they could make a cake for 32 people, that we could pick up on our wedding day. I really wanted the lemon lattice cake, so we got it as is, and didn't try to make it all white to look like a traditional wedding cake and it was a 10" round, single layer. Picking up the cake was super easy and it was well packaged.
The cake was an absolute hit. I have had multiple guests, male!, tell me that is the best wedding cake they've ever had. There was almost no cake left, and that was after everyone had already had appetizers, dinner, and pecan pie at The Pit. It was really delicious, incredibly lemony which I love, and I'm super sad that we forgot to grab the small amount that was leftover as we were leaving the wedding. Next time we are in town I'm definitely stopping by to get a slice.
I grew up in Durham so Mad Hatter's was an easy pick for my wedding cake. I spent a day with my mom and sister visiting other high end bakeries and they just didn't feel right. Walking into Mad Hatter's was so easy and casual. They easily incorporated my cake topper and followed what I wanted for the cake. We had a small simple cake and pies for the guests. The guests gobbled down the pies no problem. We literally ordered our rehearsal dinner cake the day before and it turned out great. The cost for all of it was very affordable as well. My only note is that if you want a huge and intricate cake, this may not be the place for you. Simple and delicious is what they will give you.
tasted great, delivered for no fee, easy to work with!! highly recommended. way cheaper than a traditional cake!
This was one of the highlights of our wedding! We purchased 6 regular cakes for our wedding from this bakery. We were able to pick out exactly what flavors we wanted. It worked out to be less than half the price of one, small, undecorated wedding cake from other shops and our guests loved the variety.
We asked for a custom design using our own ribbon and adding frosting snowflakes on each layer. The design they came up with was perfect!
The cake tasted great.
I chose to buy one of their regular specialty cakes instead of a wedding cake. I was very happy with how this worked out.;Wedding cakes are pricey.
Beautiful and delicious cakes. Very original.;My name was spelled wrong on 1 cake
took order over the phone 3 days before wedding, cake pretty, tasted pretty good. Cake was not a big deal to us, so didn't pay a lot of attention.;bakery is busy, but if you call in time, or are flexible if you call last minute, you will get what you want.
