Madison Lee's Cakes

It is exceedingly rare for me to ever write a bad review. Madison is a nice person but a terrible businesswoman. She put us in a very uncomfortable situation 2 weeks before our wedding and we almost had no cake at all. We met initially and went over design for 2.5 hours, asking her multiple times if what we wanted would fit into the budget and being assured it would work. Two weeks later (2 weeks out from our wedding) we received two quotes, the lesser of which was DOUBLE our budget. Heartbroken, I thought perhaps something was wrong. Unfortunately, she had “underestimated” the work during our 2.5 hour meeting, and after meeting with her business manager, told us the cake would be $10,000 if we wanted it. We had another meeting where we expressed our dismay, and concluded to make the cake smaller and with less detail to fit our budget. The cake was pretty, but really not what we expected. The whole situation left a terrible taste in our mouths (no pun intended). Now, over 3 months later, I have yet to receive back two sculptures (very sentimental to us) we loaned her for the design, even though I’ve emailed them every two weeks for the return. We had a beautiful wedding day, but I will never recommend this company to anyone because of our highly negative experience.

Booking Madison Lee to be our cake baker/designer was one of the best choices we made throughout the wedding process. I had seen her cakes in a couple magazines and when I decided to have my wedding in NYC, she was the first person I contacted to do a tasting. I called her studio where it was easy to set up an appointment and ask some questions about the process, pricing, etc. She then requested some images of our wedding details to get a sense of the vibe and look of my wedding. The day of the cake tasting arrived (I even brought my parents along from FL) and the entire experience was wonderful. Madison Lee and her team were so friendly and relaxed and the cake was so darn delicious! She then asked a few more design questions about our wedding and proceeded to create an entire sketch while we were sitting there. Chef Madison came up with a unique and special cake that incorporated the metallics I wanted featured in addition to making the cake a whole statement piece for my wedding just like I wanted. I was a bit nervous as I originally only pictured sugar flowers on my cake but Chef Madison told me not to worry and to come back in a few weeks. When I came back to her studio she had created a real size model of the cake just like her sketch so I could visualize exactly how it would look. I was instantly in love and knew my cake was going to be perfect. The other concern I had was delivery. I was to be married at the Central Park Boathouse and the ceremony was in the same space as the reception so there was a very short (like 45 minutes short!) window during the cocktail hour outside when the room was converted for the reception. That proved to be no issue for Chef Madison and her team and when everyone walked into the room for dinner, the cake was featured just how I requested. So many of my guests commented on how beautiful and delicious the cake was (we chose the caramel crunch flavor) and some guests even requested a second helping. Chef Madison was welcoming, accommodating, and went above and beyond at every opportunity! I can't thank her enough for making my wedding cake experience so special and stress-free!

Madison Lee Cakes is the best cake in the whole entire world. When I found out that she was available for our wedding, I knew I had to book her right away. She really puts so much love and care into each one of her designs. Most of the other famous cake artists don't show up to your wedding, but Madison showed up and even put final surprise touches I was blown away by. I told her I loved buttercream and vanilla, and my husband loved salted caramel. I was worried we wouldnt be able to get both of what we wanted, but she combined both in a special way where I enjoyed his and he enjoyed mine when we had our cake ceremony! When we cut into the cake there was an even sweeter surprise! All these little pearls came out and they were crunchy nutella bites. OMG we were in heaven! She even matched the cake sequins to my wedding dress. I dont know how she managed to do that, but it was the most unique cake I've ever seen! I wish we would post pictures on here so I could show everyone how amazing it is!

I really wish I could write Madison a better review. She was really nice, and after our tasting with her, I felt so good about the whole thing. She teared up listening to our proposal story and even makes gluten free flavors that are delicious! She said she wanted to make us a really special cake, and promised a sketch for two weeks later. Two weeks turned into four weeks turned into months. Three weeks before the wedding I still hadn't seen a sketch or a proposal from her. After lots of panicked phone calls we finally heard back and got a sketch and she did ultimately deliver the cake (which was good!). Six weeks after the wedding she finally sends me the proposal and invoice, marked overdue (which you are supposed to receive in advance to secure the date). So bottom line, she made us a beautiful and delicious cake but her studio (which was between managers, apparently) was very unprofessional to deal with and three weeks before the wedding I was convinced that we were SOL and wouldn't have a cake at all
