We had our ceremony and reception at the museum (specifically Long Reach Hall and the adjacent lawn) and we could not be happier with how things went! The event coordinators were knowledgeable, experienced, and incredibly helpful. They also provided a list of trusted vendors that they have worked well with in the past, and help make our event perfect.
Additionally, they provided free admission to the museum for all our guests for the weekend, so for those who come in early, they will have plenty of entertainment!
Not to mention how beautiful the venue is, and the multiple places we could have chosen for our ceremony location. Set up was a breeze, and they also assisted in breakdown the next day. It you are looking for a lovely coastal Maine wedding, in a very cute town, this is it.
We were looking for a place to hold our reception that felt like Maine and the Maine Maritime Museum really captured that for us. On the shore of the Kennebec River, just down from the Bath Iron Works, was a perfect indoor-outdoor combination venue, allowing us to contain our pandemic-era wedding while not constraining it. Working with Teresa and the staff was so easy, with preapproved vendors ready to walk in and work with the extensive facilities available, including the commercial kitchen, which saved us a lot on rentals. We used the venue for the Friday and Saturday evenings, including chartering the Museum's boat for a sunset cruise by the Iron Works and lighthouses, used their pier for the ceremony, and enjoyed the patio for outside dancing after dinner. Long Reach Hall is very adaptable, is handicap accessible, and the grounds provide a variety of rustic and landscape-oriented photograph opportunities.
Have your wedding here. Have the reception here. Have the welcome reception here. It's the only place you'll need for the perfect New England wedding.
My friends just got married here and it was beautiful. I’m not sure why the listing says no dressing room or on site accommodations because it seemed like they had both. Such a great and helpful event coordinator and breathtaking views.
Beautiful views of the Kennebec River, beautiful boats for backdrops and exceptional service. Renee and Teresa were incredible from start to finish and we didn't have to worry about anything. They even helped us put our arbor together! The Shipyard is absolutely gorgeous and we couldn't have been happier. Our guests are still raving about how unique and beautiful a venue it was! Highly recommend!
Absolutely gorgeous venue! Long Reach Hall was the PERFECT choice for our October 2016 wedding. The space was perfectly sized for 100 guests and the wall to wall windows allowed our guests to enjoy the incredible fall foliage! A truly stunning day!
Teresa and Renee at MMM could not have been easier to work with! Their professionalism, responsiveness and hospitality ensured that our day was perfect!
We had a wonderful ceremony out by the river in mid-July. The grass area by the river was very nice and the trees provided shade for our afternoon ceremony. The reception was indoors in Long Reach Hall. We loved the hall because it was indoors and comfortably air conditioned. The open rafters inside are very attractive and big widows provide lots of natural light and a great view. There is a nice deck area also for guests to enjoy. We had about 125 guests which was probably the max for the space with a seated reception. We had a live band and a small dance floor and baffet set up too. There is small balcony area too that the bridal party used before the wedding to get ready. A nice bonus was that guests could visit the museum for free on the wedding weekend. We catered locally, and purchased our own linens, so there was a little more legs work, but also created a very customized event. Tables and chairs were provided for the reception but we rented additional chairs for the ceremony.
This is a Maine Secret. Most people wouldnt think of having a wedding or event here. Christine and Teresa were such a help. The biggest positives to the museum are that you can bring your own caterer. That was a huge draw for us. I highly recommend this little slice of beauty.
When looking at Maine wedding venues we were torn. We loved the look and feel of a big barn wedding but did not want our wedding to feel like a festival (NO way was I using a porta-potty in my wedding dress). When we looked at some of the popular on-the-water resort venues, we were dismayed at being one of 3+ weddings that weekend. We needed a venue with an outdoor ceremony site, an indoor reception site with a rustic feel, handicap accessibility, a general loveliness, preferably within an hour's drive of the Portland Jetport under $2K. MMM fit the bill on all accounts. We cannot say enough how thrilled we were with our ceremony on the museum lawn, under the trees with the breeze off the water, it was all enchanting in the best possible way. Laurie, the museum's event coordinator has a very laid back approach which worked just fine for us but may distress a more structured-plan type of couple. After we got engaged the first vendor we booked was our caterer, who was not a "preferred" caterer for the museum, a non-issue as it was simply a matter of the caterer (Kitchen Chicks Catering btw), paying a small fee to become a business member of the museum. If you are looking for a wedding venue in Downeast Maine and either have a wedding planner or are okay with piecing all the parts together (all you get at MMM is the amazing space (which fits 100 with a dance floor), including tables & chairs, everything else, cake, food, flowers, music, etc needs to be booked separately). Our caterer (again, the totally fabulous Kitchen Chicks Catering our of Kennebunkport) liked the museum for its real kitchen and staging area, our photographer (the stunning-image producing Melissa Mullen) loved the venue for the numerous natural backdrops. We loved MMM for the water, the trees, the museum exhibits, including the giant ship sculpture and its uniqueness. Go visit, you will see what we mean.
The venue was fabulous. The museum staff bent over backwards to accommodate my every request. It's a beautiful location, and their list of approved vendors fulfilled my every need. I can't recommend them highly enough.
What a beautiful day! Even with some rain, this venue is GORGEOUS, the people are friendly, and we were so happy. THANK YOU!
