ve in the lead up to the wedding. But sadly, while I had a sense he would be a solid DJ for us, the performance at the event was quite a big let-down. We had a pretty simple timeline for the reception, yet Mike seemed flustered and not on top of things. Here is a list of things that were done incorrectly or omitted entirely at our wedding: - Short playlist of 5-6 songs to be played while guests arrived at ceremony were never played. Instead Mike was setting up still, when he had said he’d arrive 3 hours before the event and could set up the ceremony site quickly, even in “7 minutes” if needed. - No speaker was set up for our cocktail hour outdoor spot and no music was played at all - Uplighting was not working during dinner - We had a cute game arranged for during dinner where we would play a set of instrumental songs from tv/movies for guests to guess. He announced the game before really having everyone’s attention, then fumbled for 5-10 minutes while he worked out something on the computer and no music played at all. - Then he played 3 of these songs (incorrect versions!), and we had to cue him for our first dances which were late (one of the few timelined things all night). Our young daughter got hurt playing on the dance floor and we temporarily walked out, yet Mike had not even noticed this happen and instead announced the family dance — we weren’t even in the room! - Incorrect version of our first dance song - Then he forgot about going back to the instrumentals during dinner (abandoned the game entirely) and just started playing dance music, including several of our key “must play” favorites while no one was on the dance floor and we were all still eating. - The only other 2 planned things were a “shoe game” and anniversary dance. Neither of these was ever done. - Cake cutting was announced (and timing missed; about half hour late only when prodded by our venue coordinator) with no direction as to where the cake was. - Our requested “last dance” song was played at the end of the night but then followed up with one more song. And all in all, the music was just okay. There were no transitions between songs, just dead air. Mike did very little to engage the room directly. When the dancing energy was super high, he’d suddenly put on a slow song, which made no sense. While I didn’t want to write a poor review, I am so surprised by all the rave ones and thought this honest assessment could be helpful for other couples. Maybe we caught him on a bad day. Who knows. We’re all human. But this was a bummer and it’s just too bad all around that it did not work out. Thankfully our friends and family still had a wonderful time and that is what matters.

We had a unique situation getting married off the coast of Maine on an island where no cars were allowed. This had posed to be a problem for a number of the DJ's we had reached out to - but when we were introduced to Mike we knew it was going to be a fit right away. He was excited and prepared for the potential challenges an event like this could provide, but game for the adventure. He checked in with us and other vendors necessary to get organized. He also worked closely with our friend who was going to be supplying the music for cocktail hour, mics for our officiant, etc. Mike helped us to stay super organized as we had a million little details flying around to organize and we can't say enough about how much we appreciated Mike's attention to detail, organization, and help in general. Not to mention - Mike brought the BEST music! When initially planning, the question was asked - what's your wedding theme, Ron and I both said - relaxed, fun, and a giant dance party - and that's exactly what it was! A special thanks to Mike for his amazing music choices and MC skills. He made our wedding the perfect day we'd both imagined and we would recommend Mike to everyone we know planning an event - and can't wait to work with him again in the future! On the wedding day, Mike was prepared with three set ups, from his battery powered speakers and mic down by the water, to another setup in the tent, and an additional setup inside where the dancing occurred. During dinner, Mike led the crowd through the buffet line by monitoring the line and announcing tables. This isn't something that we asked for but was a lifesaver. During dancing, Mike read the crowd and had everyone on the dance floor, from our rowdy 20 something year old friends to my 90 year old grandparents. It was truly a great night. So glad we decided to go with Mike.

On the day of, Mike did the music for our ceremony, which was outside, and for the reception, which was inside. During the reception, Mike did an amazing job running everything on time, listening to us and our needs, and also listening to the crowd. We really did not want someone who was going to be overly "crazy" or cheesy with their announcements, etc. and Mike was absolutely perfect. Once the dance floor opened up, Mike kept the whole crowd dancing for the entire night -- he read the crowd so well and played an amazing list of music. He made sure to play all of our "must haves", and also added in a lot that we hadn't though of that fit perfectly! We had several people throughout and after the wedding comment on how great our DJ was -- we even had one friend approach him about doing their wedding the following year! All in all, I was 100% satisfied with Mike Mahoney, and would hire him again in a heartbeat. He is experienced, caring, and knows how to throw a great party (and keep it moving).

He also has a very user friendly website to log music and had most of what we wanted and was able to get any song that he didn't currently have. The week before the wedding I called Mike up to ask if he knew where I could rent a projector and he got back to me ASAP and had one on hold for me using his connections. When the day of the wedding came Mike showed up early. He played for our cocktail hour which was not at the same site as our reception and did not mind at all. He was a great MC leading up to the dancing as well. When the dancing began he knew the songs to play to get people up and dancing! He definitely worked the crowd! He was very approachable for our guests. Our crowd began dancing at 8 and did not stop until midnight and we had nearly all our wedding guests on the dance floor all night including our grandparents (until we played some rap!) At the end of the night no one wanted it to be over and if it wasn't for the policy of the reception site I believe Mike would have kept playing. I had MANY guests tell me it was the most fun they ever had at a wedding! Thanks Mike!
