Marigny Opera House is a unique cultural wedding venue in New Orleans, LA. Situated only six blocks from the French Quarter, this former church turned opera house is architecturally stunning and full of character.
Marigny Opera House was originally built in 1847 as the Holy Trinity Church. After a fire destroyed the building, it was rebuilt in 1853. In 1997, the church closed its doors and was deconsecrated, and in 2011 it became Marigny Opera House, a “Church of the Arts.” In November of that year, it hosted the acclaimed Fringe Festival, and in 2014, its residence dance company, Marigny Opera Ballet, was established. It now serves as a community meeting place and plays host to charitable and philanthropic meetings, workshops, and seminars. It’s also a place where the performing artists of New Orleans can develop their careers and their community. The venue hosts regular performances of dance, classical music, jazz, opera and more.
Marigny Opera House can hold 150-200 guests for wedding receptions. This fully accessible venue has both indoor and outdoor event space, and is easily customizable so you can make it your own. The full lawn is an excellent place to exchange vows in the open air, while the spacious interior has an old-world charm that will make your event unique. Just a quick look around the venue will show you why artists such as Solange and Depeche Mode chose it as a setting for their music videos. For a wedding your guests will never forget, Marigny Opera House is the perfect venue.

I came across Marigny Opera House early on in my search for a wedding venue and it was like love at first sight. Absolutely dreamy! Then we learned about the history of the building and the fact that the wedding money they receive goes back into the performing arts community - we were completely sold! The manager Bill is so easy going and makes the process very easy. I'm so excited to see how our photos turn out!!

Beautiful, gorgeous venue. It’s simple. You rent the venue and you are responsible for doing everything. That can be overwhelming, but to us it was perfect. Less cooks in the kitchen and more freedom to incorporate the venue exactly to our liking. This venue is dreamy and perfect. Big thanks to Bill for helping to make our wedding day so special!

I fell in love with the Marigny Opera House from the first time I saw it online. There was really no other venue that holds a candle to it. It is gorgeous from the outside to the inside. We used it as both our ceremony and our reception space. It has a large courtyard which was great for cocktail hour. Working with Bill was a breeze. He made everything so easy and non-stressful and was there the whole night to make sure everything went well. The venue itself is stunning. So beautiful that we didn't even need a lot of decor to amp it up. We had about 125 wedding guests and I would say if you had more than 150/175 space could be crowded depending on what type of set up you did.

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at the Marigny Opera House in December and absolutely loved everything about our experience! Obviously one of the most beautiful buildings in New Orleans and really fit the style I was going for. Bill was so nice, helpful and easy to get in touch with! We had several guests who had not heard of or been to this venue before and everyone commented on how stunning it was inside and out! They leave most everything up to you as far as decor and vendors, which was great for us and allowed us to splurge and save where we wanted. We were 100% pleased with our experience here and would highly recommend it!

After looking at several venues in New Orleans we were blown away by the beauty of the Marigny Opera House. As you hire the venue for a private event it allowed us to customize the wedding ceremony and reception to our needs and desires. We found other venues had restrictions that didn't suit our wishes or budget. The curators of the venue were responsive and professional. Providing tips from other successful weddings but allowing us to make our own choices.
The venue photographs beautifully inside and out. Has two bathrooms and was comfortable for our 130 guests.
I would highly recommend this venue if you want to customize your wedding..

The Marigny Opera House was absolutely perfect for our ceremony and reception. It easily seated our 130 guests for the ceremony, and transformed quickly and easily for the reception with plenty of room for food, tables, and a perfect dance floor. Everyone there is wonderful to work with, and we could not have chosen a more fabulous venue for our New Orleans wedding!!

We had an amazing wedding here. Absolutely beautiful venue. You do have to bring in everything yourself, which is a great way to personalize the wedding, but obviously more work. Some frustration regarding the rules and regulations due to neighbors, but otherwise had an amazing amazing time. Everyone was complimenting the venue!

My wife and I got married at the Marigny Opera House in February 2013, soon after a Depeche Mode video was filmed there.
This space is incredible and it was really easy to work with them, which made such a huge difference since we had so much on our plates and so much to do.
The owner/manager of the venue even played piano for us during cocktail hour(s).
I used to live in the neighborhood but had never visited the 'church' until one of my friends mentioned it and we'll be forever grateful that they did! We talked to all of our friends, many strangers and spent every day for more than three weeks walking and driving around most of New Orleans (and all of the Quarter and Marigny areas) looking for that perfect venue, and the Opera House was our favorite by far. We visited A TON of places.
And since it is primarily a performing arts space, with dance, music, theater, art exhibits, etc. the mood and feel of the place is worlds removed from any of those typical wedding venues you'll find elsewhere.
As a musician and caterer, I've worked what seem like a million weddings, and the last thing I wanted was to have the same wedding as everyone else. We couldn't have had a more romantic, more unique or way cooler New Orleans wedding than we did for any amount of money.
Our friends and family still talk about that day and what a magical experience it was, and our pictures of that day are pretty incredible. We had a second line, threw beads to all of the guests and really tried to provide a full-on NOLA experience for everyone. The Marigny Opera House was absolutely perfect! We loved it and so did everyone else.
Friends who couldn't make it are still jealous, and when we meet our friends' friends now they say, "Oh, YOU'RE the New Orleans wedding couple! I've heard such amazing stories! Wish I had been there!"
And for out-of-town friends there are lots of great guest houses, B&Bs, hotels and house rentals in the neighborhood so everyone can be close.
I am biased since it's my old neighborhood, but it is the best neighborhood in NOLA. It's walking distance to the Quarter, Canal St. street car line, great nightlife, food and drink all with a neighborhood vibe you have to experience to understand.
And most of the hassles you'll find in other parts of town don't exist here, like difficulty parking where you sleep.
We're having a second wedding next year in the south of France, and are slightly intimidated by how high we set the bar with the first one. We can't recommend the Marigny Opera House enough - six stars.
