We were intentional about not choosing a religiously affiliated space, so this came as a surprise to us. Lauren handled the situation with SO MUCH GRACE! We requested to hang something on the cross that would be non-invasive (like a drape strapped to it) to cover it. Brittany asked me 1) if I could move our ceremony indoors OR 2) if I could have our officiant say that it doesn't align with our views. After I told her no due to those suggestions compromising our day, she spoke to her husband. She then blatantly had me clarify with her that the reason we didn't want it shown is because it didn't align with our views. They then came back and said we could 1) put something in front of it - not touching it OR staked into the ground (mind you, it is TALL on a small hill, so nearly impossible), 2) give us our money back or 3) pay for us to have it at a different venue. At that point, we got the vibe that they did not want us at their venue and were not willing to work with us even though there was NO communication, minimal pictures of the cross on their socials/website, their marketing on their website changed since we booked them (now says "serving christ") AND their Knot profile still said multi, single and non-religious ceremonies welcome. We called our second option (Sundance & The Secret Garden - amazing!!). Come to find out, MMF has GHOSTED a same sex couple after they toured and when confronted about it said they don't marry same sex couples. What a shame to be in the business of celebrating love but not celebrating ALL LOVE.
