Planning a wedding from out of state was difficult - especially when we could not meet any of the vendors in advance. Matt was the first photographer we came across and we absolutely loved his work. He graciously called us while we were planning the year prior, answered all of our questions and helped make our dream a reality. Matt was so much fun, so down to earth, and helped to make sure our day was remembered beautifully. His flexibility and connection with the other vendors made him one of a kind to work with. MATT!! He truly does it all! He is one of the best on the OBX. He photographed an engagement session for us on the beach in February (BRRR!) We are lucky we had him because he helped us forget about the cold. We had a blast doing it! He takes his time and worked with us for all the shots we wanted! In October this past year Matt was also our wedding photographer! We are so happy we went with him. He has a very calming demeanor and helps your day go about with ease. He was like a fly not he wall and captured so. many. beautiful candid moments, including a picture of my older sisters and I sharing a hug. No challenge is too big for Matt! We had a large bridal party and in order to get the shot he wanted he climbed on his other photographs BACK on a BRIDE to get the perfect shot! He will tackle any situation with you! We got our photos back with an incredible turn around time. The quality is outstanding! We had a wedding of 125 guests and I swear he photographed EVERY single one of our guests having a great time! We loved being able to share these with our guests when we got them back! We had the best wedding day and Matt played such a big role in that, we are forever grateful! BOOK HIM!!

Matt was the first vendor we booked because photography was one of the most important vendors to me. The moment I saw Matt’s photography on his website and Instagram, I instantly fell in love with his style and knew he was the one to capture our wedding. Wow! Couldn’t be Happier!! Matt Lusk has been amazing to work with. He was recommended to us by our initial wedding venue as their preferred photographer. We interviewed several just to be sure we found the right personality and artist to capture our special day. He clearly rose above and we are thrilled with the results. Our wedding had to be rescheduled, cancelled and venue changed multiple times thanks to COVID…but Matt remained a mainstay throughout. He has been flexible and easy to deal with and his laid back/accommodating personality. We’ve hired Matt not only as our photographer but also as a fishing charter guide. Our pictures were amazing including those that got edited due to windblown hair, eyesores on the beach, skin blemishes….all of which were adjusted and disappeared with his post processing. He made minor adjustments that turned unfortunate blemishes that woulda made a picture a throw away…to some of our favorite pics to frame. Beyond being a great guy, a fantastic photographer and fine artist, he was also a great businessman who clearly understands the meaning of value in his work and was always conscious of importance of budget. Matt is an incredible photographer (and charter captain!) to work with. We worked into our photography package to include a charter fishing trip. And Matt handled our engagement photos at a special location as well as did a special shoot in Corova between our ceremony and reception to capture us with some wild horses. Oh, and the photos are gorgeous by the way! Top talent with top customer service!

When looking for a wedding photographer, I came across Matt Lusk Photography. His photos looked beautiful and I knew he would be our photographer for the big day. Matt Lusk and his wife, Ann, were very professional and helped us find the right poses and locations for photos. They made sure to photograph all the little details so we would remember them forever. The pictures were perfect and everyone loves how they came out!

My fiance and I chose pictures to be the one major thing we splurged on for our wedding. We contacted and looked at many photographers and were looking for a specific look. We love when a photographer takes pictures of moments and not always posed, and lets the entire picture be seen without blurring out the back...Matt Lusk meets all those requirements and we love every picture he has taken for us. Since we live in Raleigh, we went to the Outer Banks where Matt took us around Mateo and onto the beach for our engagement pictures. For our wedding Matt and his wife came to Raleigh and made our wedding day amazing. They captured every detail and gave us exactly what we were looking for in our wedding pictures. We are forever grateful for Matt and his wife capturing the moments that we get to cherish forever!

Wow! Matt was amazing. Unfortunately we got married the week of Hurricane Florence. As you can imagine, I was so stressed! We had to move our wedding up not once, but twice! Matt was so flexible and accommodating. He worked hand and hand with our officiant/wedding planner to make sure that my (now) husband and I got married! He is so personable, and caring. I just received our pictures back, and HOLY COW! They are STUNNING! I couldn’t be happier. We were able to make a stressful day, into something beautiful. Matt is by far the Best! I think that one of the hardest decisions I had to make as a bride was choosing our wedding photographer. You want someone who will capture every special moment, but do it in a way that is tailored to you. Well, Matt nailed it! I can't put into words just how beautiful our photos were - he truly was able to capture so many wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. We were thrilled with his work, and not to mention, he and Annie are the nicest most professional duo you will ever meet. You will be blown away!!!

When my husband and I first sat down to start planning our wedding last summer I asked him if he had any requests for our big day. Without hesitation, the first thing out of his mouth was "We need Matt Lusk as our photographer!!!". Matt was wonderful to work with leading up to the wedding and responded quickly to any messages I sent him. Then on the day of he put me at ease from the minute he showed up smiling and cracking jokes. The pictures he took are spectacular and capture all of the raw emotions and memories I wanted to preserve from throughout the day better then I ever could have imagined. It was an added bonus that his wife, Annie, was there as his second photographer - she was awesome and so fun. They are truly the dream team to work with!!

We were lucky to have Matt Lusk photograph both our August 5th wedding and trash the dress session the day after. As a couple who struggles to smile naturally in posed pictures, Matt put us at ease and made the experience extremely comfortable, ensuring that we were ourselves. He was very receptive to all our ideas and was able to incorporate his own creativity into capturing all the moments of our "Big Day." He had no qualms about doing whatever it took to get the perfect shot: wading through water, crawling through sand, and magically popping over all the guests on the dance floor. My husband and I got married two weekends ago at Jennette's Pier and used Matt Lusk as our photographer for the wedding. He was absolutely AMAZING!!! I have not even seen our wedding pictures yet, and am already wishing that I could give this review more than 5 stars. Matt is truly a genius in his field and is by far the best photographer on the east coast (just take a brief look at his portfolio and you will instantly be sold)! Matt was so fun to work with and had amazing ideas for our photos. My entire family loved him and would hire him again in a heartbeat. Matt Lusk is worth every penny you will spend and I would highly recommend him for your next event! :)

Two days back from our wedding and I couldn't wait to write reviews for all our vendors! Matt was the first vendor we picked - we had been a fan of his pictures for quite a while and it was a no-brainer! The day of our wedding was chaos - as they all are for the most part...Matt showed up and was quick and observant and made everyone feel comfortable - He even got my son (who is 10) to laugh out loud and smile for real in photos (usually he smiles like he's in pain) I was just completely blown away and I haven't even seen our pictures yet!

When I first began the mayhem that is wedding planning I knew two things. 1) Booking a photographer and venue are of the utmost importance! 2) I wanted a photographer that was versatile and knew how to veer off the beaten path of coordinated/staged mid air wedding party jumps but that could also see the opportunity to grab a candid intimate shot in a snap! (ha! get it!? a snap...) I stumbled upon some of Matt's work online one day when I was dabbling around. However, it wasn't one of his glorious wedding shoots that he always seems to deliver on but it was some of his freelance surfing/outdoor photography (and HOLY SMOKES IT'S AWESOME!). I found myself immediately googling him to find his website which I then discovered... HE'S ALSO A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER! I called him, set up an appointment to meet when I was in town, and booked him! When I had met with Matt to sign the contract and make our deposit he made a comment in regards to cost of his packages and how he couldn't bring himself to charge what some other folks in the Outer Banks charge for weddings. I didn't really give his comment much thought due to the fact that I hadn't looked at any other photographers because I knew that Matt's work was what we were looking for in our wedding photos. Well... I went to wedding expo several months later to book other vendors and encountered some of the other photographers who were handing out literature on their packages and prices. I absolutely CANNOT express how relieved I was that I had booked Matt when I saw those prices! I'm talking THOUSANDS people! THOUSANDS in price difference! And it's not due to a difference in quality. It's due to Matt's character. He's an awesome dude! Matt was easy to communicate with throughout the entire process leading up to the wedding. His sweet wife Annie aids him in his business and was always helpful. Matt was honest and straight forward which we very much appreciated. We had nine bridesmaids and ten groomsmen and was beyond patient and tolerant of the abundant dysfunction and lack of coordination on our part. Not to mention that my husband and I have to be one of the most awkward couple's to photograph. Not even joking... We're not candidly sappy or photogenic in the least! We told him things we DIDN'T want and sort of gave him the freedom to do what he does best and couldn't have been more ecstatic over the results! There is no doubt that we will be booking Matt Lusk again in the future for another occasion or life event yet to come!

Matt and his team were an incredible find (thanks to our awesome planner!) We were looking for more than just typical wedding photos, and he was a great fit for us. Sure, he took the usual "getting ready", ceremony, family, and wedding party shots- and everyone of them was amazing. But Matt was really into some of our non-traditional ideas too; we goofed around on the slack line and he even waded out into the sound with us while we went paddle boarding in our wedding finery. He also did a great job capturing the details that you miss when you're so wrapped up in the moment- cocktail hour, the centerpieces, guestbook table, dancing. All 1100+ photos are phenomenal- friends and family have all said what a great job he did capturing the magic of the day and all the little moments. He and his team are totally low-key, you barely know they're there, until you see the pics down the road and realize they were everywhere! I would recommend Matt Lusk highly to other couples, and encourage you to be creative and have fun with it!

From the first time we met him, we knew that he was going to make our pictures ones that we would treasure for years! I just got my photos yesterday from my 10/16/15 wedding and I am completely blown away. They are better than I could have ever imagined. My husband and I are very much not "center of attention" people so the idea of having someone photograph me for 6 hours was intimidating but Matt and his assistant were SO relaxed and easy to work with that it made me feel at ease. I just cannot express how beautiful these photos are. Matt is worth every penny and more.

My husband and I first learned about Matt Lusk Photography when we were touring venues for our wedding in the Outer Banks. Matt had left a wedding photo book at one of the venues for couples to view his work. Immediately we knew we had to have him document our wedding because the photos were so spectacular! We contacted him soon after and were so happy to find out he was still available, I’m sure it helped that we booked him about 9 months in advance. Matt and his second photographer Cory, were absolutely amazing on the day of our wedding. They were both so relaxed and easygoing that it made us all very comfortable so we could act natural while they took our picture. Matt first took detailed photos of my dress, shoes, flowers, rings, etc. Then photos of my bridesmaids helping me get my wedding dress on and then several photos of me and my bridesmaids being silly. While Matt was taking photos of me and my bridesmaids, Cory was at the house down the street taking photos of my husband and his groomsmen getting ready. The guys then came over to over house and we took our first look photos. Unfortunately, it was raining so we were very limited in the pre-wedding photos we could take but Matt and Cory were still able to get some great shots in the house and on the covered-balcony. Luckily, there was a brief break in the rain and we were able to take some bridal party photos outside in the neighborhood! We then headed to the Roanoke Island Aquarium to take more pre-wedding photos before our ceremony with our families and our bridal party in front of the shark tank! Since it was still raining at 6:00 we weren’t able to have our picturesque ceremony on the pier outside the aquarium so we had our ceremony inside. Matt took spectacular photos of our entire wedding; the ceremony, the first dance, the cake cutting, the father-daughter dance, the mother-son dance, and so many more memorable moments. Our favorite photos that Matt took of us was during the reception, he noticed that the rain had let up so we went out onto the pier and took photos with the sun setting in the background to the right and to our left was a very large-dark storm cloud coming. The contrast of the sky and the sun setting made for the most spectacular photo ever! We are so pleased with the quality of work Matt produced for us. He was able to send us a link of all of our photos within two weeks and sent us a flash drive with three! Brides, my advice is book him as soon as possible, you will not be disappointed! I wish I could truly express how wonderful Matt is and how happy we are but I feel that words just aren’t enough, all I can say is thank you Matt for everything!

Matt is fantastic!! We met Matt and his wife, Annie, at the Outer Banks Wedding Association's Wedding Expo. They were friendly and their stuff was great; we booked them on the spot. My husband and I were both a little nervous for our engagement shoot, but Matt and Annie immediately put us at ease. The engagement photos turned out beautifully, so I couldn't wait for them to shoot our wedding! They were phenomenal. They were able to take "getting ready" shots at two locations, ride along in the limo, and do the reception. Matt has really great ideas, and he made me look like a model in our pictures! 😀. He's very creative and laid back, and he'll go anywhere to get the perfect shot! I would highly recommend him to any couple. Thanks, Matt!

My husband & I picked Matt to do our wedding photography & I am still amazed at how beautiful our pictures are. Matt offers different packages that range in price & we chose one that is somewhat in the middle. Part of our package was we could add an engagement session (or it could've been a trash the dress, bridal, etc.) on to it for a couple hundred dollars. I have some friends that got married after us & their parents, & even the bride & groom themselves, are disappointed when they see their pictures because they paid so much more than we did & their pictures are not as good quality & look "staged". Matt's style really makes you feel as though you are reliving that day everytime you look at them. Matt & his assistant Jessie are so much fun to work with! Matt himself is so easy to work with & is always open for any ideas you may have & more than willing to find a way to make it work! Both our engagement & wedding pictures included our dogs & they were so patient working to get a good picture with our two dogs. Also, Matt will do just about anything for the perfect shot! He went & pretty much laid in the wet sand & sound water to get the perfect shot & it shows! Again, Matt is amazing. We highly recommend him!

My partner and I got married on Nov. 2nd at Jennette's Pier and used Matt Lusk as our photographer. We could not be happier with our choice. Matt's prices were very reasonable given the quality of the work and the multiple photographers. He was very easy to work with leading up to the wedding day and was very fun and laid back on the day of. Both him and Ann Taylor were absolutely lovely to be around and made us all feel at ease. They showed up before we were all done with hair and makeup and used the time to snap photos of my dress, the flowers, rings, etc. They even got an adorable photo of our flower girl all dressed up and asleep next to our dog. The posed pictures are stunning and they captured all the important moments perfectly (the kiss, first dance, etc.) but we were most impressed by their attention to details and candid shots. They didn't miss anything and there are some really beautiful, intimate candid shots we had no idea they were taking. Every picture is gorgeous and creative. We would absolutely recommend Matt to anyone looking for a fantastic photographer in the OBX area.

Matt and Ann Taylor made us feel super relaxed on our wedding day. They have a good sense of humor and aren't awkward or cheesy, like some photographers can be. We liked them immediately. Matt alo does a lot of surf photography and his images are amazing. We're still waiting for our proofs, but I'm certain they will be great.

We hired Matt Lusk and his wife Annie for our 6/8/12 wedding in OBX and so thrilled that we did!! The couple were awesome to work with, and captured everything we asked them to and so much more. Matt and Annie's attention to detail was very noticeable and appreciated. We received a nice mix of color and black and white photos, close-ups and shots from a distance, different angles, plenty of photos with people but also some of the different elements of our wedding without people in them. We could tell that Matt and Annie really were in tune with the fun and laid back vibe of our wedding celebration and we have the photos to prove it. Our wedding was at 6pm and the night ended with some floating lanterns on the beach in the dark. Matt and Annie really showed their talent by being able to deal with all of the different lighting from daylight through sunset, to a dark night with the lanterns. Would absolutely recommend them to anyone getting married, especially in the Outer Banks, as beach and ocean pictures are very evidently their specialty.

Matt Lusk and his wife Anne made our wedding day last forever in photos. Photography was my most important vendor category and we scored being able to secure them for our date! Like all couples we had a budget and OBX photographers can be expensive! Matt's full day package is affordable (the best deal I could find for the quality I wanted) compared to other OBX photographers, but his work is out of this world. They were so much fun to be around - we used them for both engagement and wedding photos - and I know we'll use them again in the future. Matt was really helpful along the way answering questions about what time to hold the ceremony, what colors would work in photos, and so many more. He was responsive by email and phone (and texting which was great). You will love having Matt & Anne a part of your special day - and you will cherish his work for years to come!

The first thing you should know about Matt Lusk photography is that Matt is a surf photographer. His landscape work is breathtaking! He takes this same talent and applies it to gorgeous wedding pictures. On top of his obvious talent, Matt and his wife are super-friendly, patient, accessible, and flexible. They are also pet friendly, which was a big plus for us. You can not beat their pricing, and you are able to get full size digital copies of all the photos- so you can print whatever sizes and quantities you would like! We could not have been happier with this service! If I could give more than 5 stars, I would!

I cannot rave about Matt Lusk enough!! We used him for our wedding and decided somewhat last minute to do a Trash-The-Dress as well. I just got the TTD photos and am literally obsessed with them. As my mom said, he really captured our love and the pictures seem to tell a story. The way he used the light, scenery and different angles were all amazing. We were so comfortable with him and he brought out the best of us in our pictures. Come the day of the wedding he and his wife were great (even when they got rained on!) kept the mood light, and got great pictures without being intrusive at all. Their personalities and talent are through the roof! Such an incredible value; I recommend him to everyone!
