Maxine's Catering/Bittersweet Bakers

Two weeks later, I am still getting compliments about my wedding cake! It was so good! I loved working with Maxine. COVID makes so many parts of wedding planning difficult, but axine made the cake process easy. She has a number of creative flavor options that are right up my alley. I picked up two tasting halves - a raspberry chocolate ganache and lemon lavender cake with butter cream icing - about 3 or 4 months before the wedding. I went with the lemon lavender cake. It was beautiful and delicious. Relatives lined up for a slice! I even saw friends eating cake the next morning for breakfast! (I certainly had a slice each day the following week with my coffee - haha!) Maxine was kind, professional, and a delight to work with!

Maxine created the most delicious, beautiful yet simple cake for our wedding 9/7/19. We chose to go with a rosemary cake with vanilla buttercream, with a raspberry filling! It was so delicious! The guest loved the unique flavor! It was the first time I had been to a wedding where there were no leftovers! I simply cannot wait until our first anniversary so we can break it out and enjoy it all over again! If you are looking to support a local business, want to work with someone sweet, professional and attentive, then Maxine is your girl!!

Maxine created a gorgeous cake for our wedding! It was exactly what we had envisioned - both minimal yet stunningly elegant. All of our guests kept raving about how delicious it was. We were so happy that we could find a baker to create a lemon poppyseed cake - our favorite flavor! On the day of the wedding she arrived and spent time adding all the final floral touches in coordination with our florist. She was great to work with, and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

I wish we lived closer to Maxine because the cake was incredible! So many of our guests said that they don't normally eat wedding cake, and they loved ours! We got a spice cake with a brown sugar butter cream frosting and the flavors were amazing! We also wanted a simple design and we got exactly what we wanted. My biggest complaint was that because it was so good, we didn't end up with the top to have a year later!

Maxine was great to work with! We had a marble cake with buttercream frosting and chocolate filling and it was AMAZING! She's super friendly to work with and very accommodating. Highly recommend!

Ooo! Our wedding cake from Maxine’s was so charming and delicious. We found her name on our venue’s vendor list. Frankly, we were not sure if we had enough money for a cake from her but some pleasant and unexpected budget shifts happened and we were able to order a cake for our wedding (6/9/18). We have no regrets about our decision, especially after searching for other bakeries. Her craftsmanship is refined and the icing and cake textures were perfection. My husband and I decided upon an older Martha Stewart cake design: a buttery yellow frosted cake base with piped festoons along the edges in a paler tonal yellow (we are not fans of the naked cake trend.) We scheduled a tasting and consultation and left knowing that Maxine would do a beautiful job and it was one more thing we could check off of our list! We couldn’t have been happier with the results. Her delivery rate is also very reasonable and she came right on time. The three tiers of lemon poppyseed cake with blackberry jam and airy buttercream were thoroughly enjoyed by us and our guests… We forgot to save ourselves a slice but maybe we’ll just have to get ourselves an anniversary cake in the future. Maxine baked a vegan ceremony cutting cake and vegan cupcakes for my wedding this past month. Everything was delicious & beautiful and we received so many compliments from our guests. We definitely recommend Maxine's Catering/ Bittersweet Bakers!!

Wedding planning is stressful, there’s no way around it. Things are bound to go array but when you have the bakers of all bakers that is at least one thing that you don’t have to worry about. Maxine’s cakes are a work of art. Being the typical anxious bride, I had asked her to make my bridal shower cake to see if I could get an idea for what my wedding cake would be like. It was simply stunning and (although I’m not sure how this was possible) even better tasting than it looked. I had guests asking me for a piece on the ride home. Of course, the very few leftovers went home with me. I’m fairly certain I sent Maxine countless pictures of wedding cakes and ideas that I had. I was quite the stress ball during this process and changed my mind more times than I can remember but Maxine was always patient and understanding with me. In the end, I trusted her judgment and left our cake in her genius hands and was of course not disappointed. Our cake was STUNNING and beyond my imagination (a true feat considering the numerous ideas I threw in her direction). Even better was that it tasted incredible and in fact I later found out that most guests had run around taking each other slices to further indulge themselves. Can’t say I blame though as I would’ve done the same if I wasn’t trapped in a wedding dress  Maxine is a true professional in every sense of the word and I guarantee that she will make your cake as unique and special as your marriage. The only regret that I have is that I only have 5 stars to give her in this review because she quite frankly deserves many many more. Anyone getting married in the Hudson Valley (or anywhere honestly) would be foolish not to enlist her services. Maxine - You’re a gem!!

Maxine is great at what she does - no question! My husband and I weren't originally planning to have a cake (until it was gifted to us) so we weren't sure of exactly what we wanted in the beginning. I looked around and reached out to a few vendors in the area but wasn't over the moon about the quality, taste, or look of their work (I eventually decided I was going for something natural and rustic - without fondant of any kind and with a focus on flavor). When we found Maxine, we were impressed and so relieved! She created exactly the kind of cake we were looking for! She was extremely thorough in her work - our initial conversation was designed to gauge flavors my husband and I liked and discuss the overall look and theme of the wedding. She was very accommodating and easy to work with - I sent her my Pinterest board and she was able to create something with exact feel of what I was looking for. We ended up going with a honey and rosemary naked cake, with buttercream frosting. It looked beautiful and tasted amazing. She dressed it with the same flowers from the wedding and delivered it promptly on the day of the wedding. I would not hesitate to recommend her to a friend or work with her again in the future.

Our wedding cake was a three tier honey/rosemary cake with a layer of blackberry preserve and vanilla Italian buttercream, frosted in vanilla Italian buttercream. Our guests were blown away! I showed her a photo of how I wanted the frosting to look and she executed flawlessly. She delivered herself and decorated with fresh flowers and a topper we provided. The groom's cake was an add-on closer to the wedding. I asked her for a marble cake with layer of choc/hazelnut ganache (my fiance's original choice of flavor). We hike a lot, so she made the cake look like a campsite with tent and working fire pit! She delivered it in a box so he wouldn't see it and he was so happy!!! The hardest part of working with Maxine will be figuring out which flavors to select -- everything we tried was amazing! I'll definitely be working with Maxine again so book her quickly :) FIVE STARS IS NOT ENOUGH!!! Thank you Maxine!!!

Maxine created the most beautiful, delicious cakes for our September 2011 wedding. We contacted Maxine with the idea to have several small 1950s inspired cakes on vintage cake stands and she immediately got our vision and helped us to execute it. We met her at her home for a friendly cake tasting and fell in love with everything we tasted. We ended up having five cakes of different flavors and it is hard to say which was the most delicious, although the lemon poppy was so unexpected and light it may have won my vote. We described the cake stands and Maxine helped us pick colors and designs that complimented them. The only design choice we dictated was to have the pattern of my wedding dress on the two-tiered cake and she matched it perfectly! One of the most magical moments of our wedding was turning the corner and seeing the beautiful display of cakes; she exceeded our expectations. It is also worth mentioning that we are a lesbian couple and that Maxine's Catering is a gay-friendly business.
