2.5 or three stars for the actual wedding reception with MILTON.
I know my situation wasn't planned, as I believe there was a death in the family the week before which resulted in Carlton not being able to DJ my wedding. We got the call and I knew it wouldn't be the same. We were assigned his brother, Milton. He was extremely hard to get in contact with, having to resort to get our other vendors (photog, coordinator, reception venue, and Carlton himself) to try to get a hold of him. He "never got our calls and emails." Our final meeting to go over details never happened. And I knew to expect the worst. My first dance with my husband was about 35 seconds. The music cut out while we were still dancing and were awkwardly talked off the dance floor by Milton. Nothing we wanted to be announced was announced. The music was not as played and mixed as promised. He sang/talked over the music and weirded out me and my guests.
I so wish I could've had Carlton, because we had only ever heard great things. This really made me consider vetting future vendor's back ups before the contract is signed. I hate leaving three stars because I know it wasn't Carlton's fault but the contract was signed with, and the back up was coordinated by McGee Entertainment.

icult circumstances. This is the second time in the last 15 years that DJ Milton has covered for a DJ because of the death of a family member. The other time he covered for a DJ from our DJ Association. The other couple and family was very understanding, happy and gracious that DJ Milton showed up for their special day. All expectations were not met but the event still turned out to be successful and the Bride was happy to have a Professional back up DJ available for her wedding reception. Let me say this for all the Brides and vendors reading this. After 27 years of working in this industry I've realized one very important fact and that is a vendor can't guarantee they will be available for your event. You cannot remove all the risk from hiring a vendor. The way to reduce the risk is to hire a Professional DJ or DJ service with experience and a solid reputation of providing quality services. Ask if they have a back up plan in case of an emergency (act of God clause). Some will, some will not. The back up may or may not have the same emcee style, experience or skills as the original DJ you hired. As a paying customer you have the right to tell the DJ during the event to change his style to your preference (s). A Professional DJ will not have a problem with your request. Honestly, most of the time he/she will not be aware that there is a problem at all! Because we care about our Couples and care about the outcome of your event, I offered the Mother of the Bride a refunded. It was declined (I didn't have the Brides contact information because the event was booked through the Mom). In conclusion,
DJ Milton and I have different Emcee styles. If you don't like our style we are very flexible, willing and able to change up to meet your needs/preference. Nobody is perfect and mistakes happen all the time. However, the best businesses learn from the mistakes and come back better because of the experience.

We wish we could give Carlton 10 stars!! Even 2 weeks later we have had countless guests call and say it was the most fun they have ever had at a wedding. We had a huge dance floor, & he kept it packed with everyone dancing the entire reception...
! He lets you pick your own music, but we were happy that we left room for him to read the crowd to play music that would keep everyone up and having fun too. He got up and was helping people learn the line dances (even my grandparents were up learning them and dancing the entire time). Carlton also went above and beyond on our wedding day. I wanted to sing and play guitar to perform a song i wrote for my husband. He arranged mics and stands to make it possible. We also wanted music playing during our sparkler exit, & he put a speaker outside to make that possible as well. If you want your guests to have fun at your wedding McGee entertainment is a MUST! He made every announcement with style and made sure the wedding party was announced correctly. He helped to keep the timeline on track, there was never a lull in between different activities and dancing. Carlton is not only the nicest person, but he's got such a great & professional attitude, he kept the wedding flowing as it needed to, and he was fantastic at reading our guests and playing music to keep people dancing! We told him that we wanted a dance party reception. And we got it! We gave him some suggestions for songs we liked, but I'm glad he just uses that more so as a guide than a playlist because he picked out better ones that fit our crowd that night. We had so many guests tell us how much they were loving the music he was playing!! Everyone's feet were so sore the next day from dancing all night long :) And fyi, for anyone like us who wanted live music for the ceremony but a DJ for the remainder - even though he went on when the cocktail hour started, we still had him there for the ceremony time because he put mics on the officiant and groom so everyone could hear our ceremony. This is so vital to have someone there to amplify the ceremony so your guests can actually hear everything. Let me just start off by saying that I have heard a lot of good things about the company itself, but I was the unlucky one who didn't have a great experience. They were good at responding to emails quickly and my reception was really fun.

not so good: I booked McGee over a year in advance of my wedding date and since I had been e-mailing and texting Carlton, I thought that's who my DJ was. I didn't realize until a month before my wedding that I was actually assigned to Dametris. He was very nice and looked great at the wedding.
The ugly: I was disappointed to find out that they wouldn't shorten my music for me, so I had my friend who edits and arranges music professionally do it for me. I e-mailed the files and put them on a USB drive in the exact order I wanted them played for the ceremony. The ceremony ended up being a complete disaster! First, he showed up after the music was supposed to start when he told me he would be there an hour early. The music was terrible...some songs wouldn't play and they played completely out of order...I didn't get to walk down the aisle to the song that I had been dreaming of and practicing to for over a year. He claimed the USB drive corrupted the files and had issues before he even got there. If he had told me that beforehand, there wouldn't have been an issue because I still had all of the music downloaded on my phone. They did give me a partial refund after I complained, although not as much as I was expecting. I probably wouldn't have been as annoyed had he not made so many excuses and simply said it was his fault and he messed up. I am still upset by the music, as it was so important to me and I can't even listen to the songs I had picked out anymore.

fferent locations (the signed agreement was for one location). This snowballed into him not having enough time to preview/test your ceremony music to confirm it worked with his equipment. He made a mistake by not confirming the ceremony and reception were being held in two different locations and not testing the USB drive before he got to the venue. The DJ's name is listed on the agreement so there is no confusion about who the DJ will be the day of the wedding. The partial refund I issued was very fair. I didn't send a partial refund because you complained, I sent it because it was the right thing to do. In all honesty, mistakes and miscommunication by both parties resulted in the outcome of this event.
I felt like we hired the best DJ. Milton was so much fun! I didn't have too many set songs, so he helped suggest some and they were perfect. I loved hearing them at the appropriate time during the wedding and reception. The tiny dance floor...

He created a wedding website for us, and we were able to create a playlist, based on the music that we like. We had picked out a few of our favorite songs for the playlist, but he knew exactly what kind of music we were looking for just my seeing a few of our favorite selections. He knew exactly what to play and when, to keep everybody on their feet and having fun, while also keeping it a classy and appropriate for all ages. friendly, upbeat, and energetic. He immediately understood the type of atmosphere and music we wanted to have for our guests, and he was willing to buy any music that he didn't already have. We were able to enter in the "special" songs for the reception directly on his website, and we simply verified them on a phone call to make sure all was in place.
On the day of the event, Carlton showed up dressed in a suit with a big smile on his face! He was a fantastic MC, keeping the reception moving nicely and directing people to either watch, sit, or dance at various points when appropriate. His energy and happiness was contagious- everyone had such a blast! We highly recommend!!!

I am one the fence about this vendor. I really enjoyed the selection process (it is all online and organized which I enjoyed), but I was very disappointed in the final outcome of our ceremony choices.
I picked non traditional songs (with ...
words) for my bridal party and I and he picked the movie version of "Tale as Old as Time" so you heard Chip's voice which completely KILLED the feeling- and it was my wedding interlude!! He used the very beginning of the songs so by the time the words started more than half of us were already there.
What upset me the most is while we were lining up to be introduced somehow the pairings were messed up (he wrote down the wrong names) and instead of writing down the correct pairs quickly- pen in hand, he had the couples split up to the way he wrote it down. It threw everything off. He was extremely rude to myself, my husband and each bridal party member that tried to correct their name pronunciations. Everyone was extremely disgusted and shocked with how we were being talked to.
After that however the other song choices seemed to be done pretty well. All of the dances went correctly and were timed well. Those that wanted to dance did and he wasn't too crazy on the mic. Once we were able to get in and start the party it was fine, but those first (and in my opinion most important interactions) were not handled professionally.
Thankful they were able to cover us at the last minute.

We had special request songs that were played at exactly the right moment, without even having to look the DJ's way. He kept the night on track and was more of a "Reception Cooridnator" than a simple DJ. I couldn't have asked for a better DJ for my barn wedding. n stress because I had spoken with him during the planning process for song sugesstions and timing ideas, and the man knows his audience and clients. He gave me great ideas and obviously remembered my tastes, because he played my favorite artists without me even telling him. I hired him almost out of the gate because he was the first DJ I spoke with who I could tell actually was listening to the style/feel I wanted, and wasn't just trying to sell me on his "radio persona." I only gave him a list of the special moment songs like first dance, daddy/daughter dance, and last dance, and Carlton took care of the rest. I could see the grandmas enjoying themselves, and then when it came time to party, Carlton had the dance floor PACKED. He was funny and entertaining without stealing the spotlight, and worked the crowed perfectly despite there being multiple rooms/areas for guests. If you want a spectacular DJ/MC to give you a fun AND elegant event (no games/props/stupid dances here), then definitely go with McGee.
