We loved the cupcakes and one-tier cake McLain's made for our wedding! Their tasting box was also so delicious that we bought a second one before our wedding just because. We did a strawberry tiered cake with cream cheese frosting and it was SO GOOD. Then we had that flavor, chocolate, vanilla and red velvet for cupcake flavors. We paid for delivery from the Lawrence location and it was well worth it since our venue was between Lawrence and KC.
We ordered a small cake for us to cut and about 60 cupcakes. It was super affordable and everything tasted amazing. We signed up for a tasting session ahead of time which I recommend!
McLain’s was absolutely wonderful to work with for our wedding cake. During the tasting we were able to sample so many cakes/fillings/icing choices it was almost hard to choose! They ended up providing a cake that looked exactly like the inspiration photo I had provided, and the cake was DELICIOUS. We had ordered a smaller cake, and we had multiple guests asking if more cake was coming out because it was delicious. Another thing we love about McLain’s is that they re-make the top tier of your wedding cake on your one year anniversary. We are so excited for our one year anniversary to retaste this delicious cake.

Ordered two cakes from McLain's Bakery a week before my wedding and they were baked and decorated to perfection! (Cake toppers bought separately.) We had a sheet cake for guests and a smaller 8-inch one for me and my husband to cut. The sheet was vanilla with blueberry buttercream filling, and the 8" was almond with lemon buttercream filling. Both of them together were under $200 and they were DELICIOUS, highly recommend McLain's for any event!

Mclain's was amazing to work with! We did a cake tasting with them at the bakery and the staff was so helpful with that and helping us with our proposal. The cake was amazing the day of our wedding as well. We chose strawberry with cream cheese frosting and we had so many guests rave about how good the cake was!! I highly recommend using them for your wedding!

We did a cake taste test from McLain's in order to pick our wedding cake flavor! It was so fun to try all types of flavors and pairings.
We were able to order our cake online which made it super easy! The wedding cake turned out beautiful and delicious (highly recommend the strawberry cake with the almond icing!)
We are looking forward to celebration our anniversary every year with a strawberry cake from McLain's!

McLain's was absolutely amazing! We used them for our wedding cake and also ordered cookies from them as one of our party favors for our guests. We did a small 1 tier cake for the cake that we cut and then ordered sheet cake with the same flavors for our guests to keep costs a little lower. We had a special request to include a little pop out of our dog in the cake (see photo) and they achieved our vision perfectly! It was so adorable. Not only did it look good, it was absolutely delicious! We over-ordered cookies and have them in our freezer and they keep very well! Highly recommend them for weddings and any of your other cake and pastry needs!

We had such a great experience with McLain's for our rehearsal dinner desserts as well as our wedding cake. We went to a tasting 4 months before the wedding and it was simple and straight to the point. They let us know beforehand what options would be available and we picked a handful that we wanted to try in preparation to the tasting. They were available to answer any and all questions we had at the tasting as well as any questions we had leading up to the wedding weekend. The dessert and cake they made were absolutely incredible and all guests were thoroughly impressed! A great benefit that they provide is giving the bride and groom a new free top layer on their one year anniversary so they don't need to put their wedding cake in the freezer until next year. Just goes to show how they are a customer first bakery that knows how to supply for any event needed. We would highly recommend McLain's for your wedding or next event!

Only positive things to say- flavor were delightful and easy team to work with. Cake was devoured fast! We even asked for our dog to be part of the design and the baker beautifully crafted her out of fondant to look like she was peaking out the middle tier.
McLains bakery was better than we could have ever dreamed for our wedding. We ordered a small two-tiered cake and an assortment of mini desserts for our wedding reception. We had to make an adjustment to our order the week of the wedding, and McLains was able to accommodate us even on short notice. McLains set up all of our desserts when they were delivered, which was FANTASTIC! Our guests loved all the cookies, mini cupcakes, and cheesecakes McLains made for us. Our cake was phenomenal as well (chocolate ganache and vanilla cake).

McLain’s was a great choice for our wedding cake! The cake was delicious and the staff were very easy to work with. They created exactly what I wanted for my cake with what little I gave them to go off of. Pricing compared to other cake companies wasn’t too bad either.

McLain's knocked it out of the park with our cake and desserts. We gave them an inspiration picture asked them to make a couple of changes and they gave us exactly what we asked for. Our cake was delicious too and looked beautiful. Our mini desserts were also so good. My only regret is that I didn't get to eat more of my own wedding cake before the venue picked up my not empty plate with rest of my cake on it!

We decided to do a milk and cookies bar fairly early in our wedding planning process, but still wanted a small cake just for the two of us. I had hoped to find an option that was simple, stunning, and gluten free. McLain’s delivered exactly what I was looking for. It can be hard to find a small wedding cake for a reasonable price, but we were able to get just what we were after with a two-layer 8” cake, which was the perfect size of our cake toppers!

McLain's was such a great vendor to work with. My mom and I went in to the store for the tasting, and it was so much fun getting to try all the different flavors and combinations. It was nice being able to talk about them by ourselves and then work with the wedding consultant once we had decided! The cake was beautiful on the day of and everyone raved about how delicious it was! The sweetest thing is they also offer a free anniversary cake during the month of your one year anniversary!

McLain's was the best to work with for our wedding day! We did their "mini two-tier" which is the perfect option if you're looking to have a statement cake for you to cut and share just with your spouse. I gave them a picture of what we wanted and they followed it perfectly. It turned out amazingly pretty and delicious! Love them more now than I already did, can't recommend them enough!

If you haven't tried McLain's cake, you sure are missing out. McLain's created the most delicious cake for our wedding this past fall. It was so good I still dream about it. Not only was the cake amazing but the whole process was so easy. Communication was clear and they listened to my ideas and created the exact cake I had hoped for. So many guests came up to me and my parents and told us how delicious the cake was. Do yourself and your guests a favor, and have a McLain's cake at your wedding.

Seriously, you cannot beat the cake at Mclain's! It's so delicious and fresh, and they offer a great selection of flavors. The tasting experience was so fun and made us feel really special. Mclain's was completely booked for custom cakes the weekend of our wedding, but we were able to order one of their simple designs online, and had our florist do the rest. It's great that they have this option to accommodate everyone. We cannot wait for our 1 year anniversary, when we plan on getting another cake from Mclain's!

Our guests are STILL talking about our wedding cake even a week later- it was divine! The bakery team was so easy to work with, I sent them inspiration pictures and they created my dream wedding cake that was so delicious. Several wedding guests mentioned eating more than one piece so that’s definitely a good sign! I will be purchasing cakes from McLains in the future and we love that it was a local business!

Our wedding cake was amazing! We did cake & cupcakes, and all of our guests loved both flavors. We did chocolate cake with peanut butter buttercream, and vanilla with cream cheese buttercream. Mclain's was AMAZING! My husband and I actually got married in Minnesota, where I am from, but he grew up in KC and love's Mclain's. I talked with the team at Mclain's and they made it work for me to order the groom's cake from them (KC chiefs themed) and worked with me to get it up to MN. It looked and tasted incredible!! I cannot recommend them enough and am so thankful they were able to work with me. My husband was thrilled to have a piece of KC with him at the wedding!!

We loved our McLain's cake, cupcakes, and truffles for our wedding! Everyone raved about the flavors and we had some guests say they went back for multiple cupcakes (good thing we bought a little extra!) And if you've never tried their flourless dark chocolate truffles, I would HIGHLY recommend! We ran out of those so fast, I definitely should have gotten more.

Our cake was gorgeous and delicious. McLain's was very accommodating when it came to postponing our wedding for a year due to COVID. I will say the only difficulty we ran into with McLain's is the communication was a little iffy at the beginning. We set up our tasting and let them know we wanted to use them for our cake very easily, but I had a hard time reaching someone to make the deposit and confirm our date with them. I believe they were in the middle of cake department managers and it was around the holidays at the time, but I did eventually get the deposit placed. There were no further issues after that, and I reached someone right away to pay the rest of our balance a few months before our big day, so I still give them 5/5. Instead of saving the top tier, Mclain's will make us a small cake with our flavors foe our first anniversary, and I cannot wait to eat it!

We did a dessert station for our wedding and it looked SO pretty and all our guests said everything was so delicious! Our wedding cake was delicious as well! And they give you a free small cake on your wedding so you don't have to save any of it.
LOVED our wedding cake from McLain's Bakery! They took our vision (navy ombre tiered cake with fresh sunflowers decorations) and made it even better than we expected. While it looked great it tasted even better!!! We chose chocolate cake + peanut butter filling and almond funfetti + cream cheese filling. Our guests raved about the cake. Thank you McLain's!
There is no way you can go wrong with a McLains wedding cake. We had the hardest time deciding on a flavor because everything was so delicious, but in the end we were so happy with our choice. They were able to deliver just want we wanted: a delicious and simple cake, and even the tiered wedding cake tasted fresh for days.
My wife and I had our wedding at the end of May 2021 with McLain’s Bakery providing cupcakes and cake at the reception. We had a tall 6” passionfruit cake with buttercream frosting to cut and share with family while also providing three different mini-cupcake options for guests. We already loved McLain’s other bakery products, so it was no surprise that their cupcakes and cake were beautiful and delicious. We initially became intrerested during the early days of COVID, so we ended up doing a take-home tasting, but it was super fun. We went back for our in-person consultation later and felt so at-ease to have such a beloved local establishment handle one of the most iconic pieces of the wedding. The cakes were delivered in a timely manner and the quality was beyond reproach. Another perk is that you get a free anniversary cake after your first year; no more eating freezer-burned cake! I would highly recommend McLain’s for any occasion.
Unfortunately McClains was the worst vendor to work with. In 9 months I could only get 3 total responses from them, which was from 3 different people. They were so difficult to work with and had no desire plan how the cake would look. I sent multiple pictures of my inspiration and they kept not adding them or responding. The cake I received was comical. It looked NOTHING like what was very clearly talked about. If it weren’t for my day of coordinator they wouldn’t have responded to me within the 3 months leading up to the day. My husband said “this cake looks like one of those fails you compare next to the inspiration”. They didn’t provide a box to save the top tier. I do have to say the taste of the cakes were incredible! Just very disappointed in the customer service. If there was question or concern to what the cake should look like or if they could do it.. they should have reached out. My request was a pretty simple big chunky floral design, but we received tiny flowers that looked like caterpillars. I can only recommend for flavor!
McLain's Bakery made the lemon and vanilla buttermilk cream cake of our dreams! It not only tasted divine, but it looked fabulous, too. They were a great, flexible vendor to work with as we had to change our design and order many times. Highly recommend.
Everyone we worked with was very responsive, both by email and phone, which was a relief since we were coming in from out of town. The cake was delicious and exactly what we had in mind! We ordered some other desserts too, which were really tasty.
We love McLain's Bakery! We got a simple, 1-tier wedding cake for the centerpiece of our dessert bar, and it was delicious. Our only complaint was that we did not get much pricing information ahead of time, not until in person at the tasting.
I wish I could post a picture of how absolutely BEAUTIFUL my wedding cake was. McLain's made all my dreams come true with how perfectly they made my cake. I wanted something a little more unique by having a "naked" caked and chocolate dripping down on the tiers. It turned out perfectly and we got so many compliments on how delicious and beautiful it was! I wish we would have saved our top tier for our one year anniversary, but this just gives me an excuse to go back to McLain's and have them make another cake for me ;)

this beautiful little bakery worked with my husband and I too keep our wedding day intact through COVID-19. Without them we wouldn't have been able to rescue our wedding and still make our dreams come true. They are highly recommended when it comes to personalized wedding cakes and designs.
My wedding was in July and we ordered desserts from McLain's for our dessert bar. They were so easy to work with everything was put together perfectly! We had so many compliments on how delicious everything was. Definitely recommend going to McLain's for all your bakery needs!
Even though we moved our wedding due to Covid shut downs, we still got cake and cupcakes from McLain's on our original wedding date. Our friends and family loved the cupcakes, and we thoroughly enjoyed our beautiful and delicious wedding cake. The cake was affordable, delicious, and very well made.
I've now been a McLain's Bakery/Market customer for several years and have always been very thrilled with the quality and service. When my wife and I were looking for our wedding cake vendor, we knew who to call. The design process was very easy, and we were able to sample many flavors in the form of cupcakes prior to making our decisions. We went with a classic three-tiered cake with vanilla, chocolate, and champagne flavors (the champagne flavor is especially delicious)! The cake looked absolutely stunning. To top it all off, we found everything to be reasonably priced. We can't recommend McLain's enough!
I don't like cake and our wedding cake tasted AMAZING. We got a small almond cake and they were able to stay within our budget and ideas for the cake. The cake looked and tasted perfect. The tasting before the wedding was very easy and fun, and they were able to provide us with a lot of options for decorations, and execute our vision perfectly. They were easy to communicate with via e-mail and on the phone.

McLain's provided an absolutely perfect cake for our wedding. It looked phenomenal, and tasted even better than it looked. We had them do cupcakes for the guests, and everyone loved them. McLain's Bakery for our wedding cake was one of the easiest decisions we made. We did a simple, semi-naked almond cake + carrot sheet cakes and they were a huge hit. We planned our Kansas wedding from the East Coast and they even coordinated a "take away" tasting to accommodate our schedule. Love McLain's!!
SO DELICIOUS! We had our cake and a dessert bar catered by McLain's and it was a hit! Everyone loved the cake and was asking us who we had gotten it from as well as the dessert bar. Megan did an amazing job on the cake decorating. I would recommend them over and over!
We did a dessert bar with cupcakes and cookies from McLains for our June wedding! Everything arrived on time and was delicious! The cookies were a HUGE hit. I definitely recommend McLains, they were easy to work with and their prices were reasonable!
For my daughter’s recent wedding, we did a lot of research on bakeries in the Kansas City area, narrowed it down to a few highly rated options, bought small cakes in the bride's and groom’s preferred flavors (vanilla and strawberry) from each bakery, and had a group tasting with 10 family members. McLain’s was the unanimous choice. The cakes and frosting were just outstanding. We couldn’t wait to eat McLain’s cake again at the wedding, and it was a huge hit with our 200 guests, too (glad I ordered a lot of extra servings). The design was simple and elegant, made even more beautiful with a spray of fresh flowers. And I felt the price was very reasonable for the quality and quantity. I strongly recommend putting McLain’s on the list of bakeries to consider for your wedding.
Wow! McLain's was amazing to work with in order to create the cake design we wanted for our wedding! My mom and I met with Megan at our tasting/design meeting and she was fabulous. She helped us figure out what was best for the amount of people we were expecting at our wedding. She was confident in the design I wanted and made us feel at ease knowing that it would be made perfectly (we also planned for cookies and she helped us determine the best amount to get for those). We met during my lunch break from work and not only did we talk about the plans for the cake, but Megan took the time to chat with us and get to know us personally; I didn't want to go back to work! On our wedding day, the cake was absolutely beautiful and we received MANY compliments. We are also looking forward to the one year anniversary cake we receive. We are VERY glad we went with McLain's for our wedding!

Megan and team at McLains make picking out a wedding cake about as easy as you could want! I showed her several pictures and she offered ideas, especially how to maximize the cake while staying within our budget. She gave us a tasting box with a couple extra flavors to make sure we got the perfect combo! They are professional, prompt in addressing questions, and well, not to mention create delicious tasting cakes that look amazing!
Megan was great to work with from our tasting all the way through our wedding day. The was beautiful and tasted even better than it looked. The groom's cake was INCREDIBLE- she made it to look like a groom's cake and WOW- we were blown away. I would absolutely recommend McLain's to anyone looking for a fun, talented baker for their wedding cake.
McLain's made the wedding cake for our daughter's -- Maggie -- wedding in July. It was beautiful and tasted as good as it looked. In addition, we served mini cheesecakes, chocolate/peanut butter bites and heart-shaped frosted sugar cookies. Everything was beautiful and delicious -- and we received numerous compliments. They were very easy to work with and exceeded our expectations. Thank you, McLain's for helping to make Maggie's wedding dreams come true!
McLain's made a delicious cake for the day and it also looked spectacular - would recommend to anyone and everyone. Also go try their chocolate cup cookies if you haven't already.
We got cupcakes from McLain's for our wedding. They were amazing. We got all kinds of flavors and sadly I have tried them all, and all were delicious. They even put sparkles on them which made them even prettier. Everyone at our wedding complimented the cupcakes. I would highly recommend them for wedding cake or cupcakes.
McLain's Bakery is wonderful to work with. We were planning our wedding three hours away and they made so many accommodations to make sure we got what we wanted. The white cake is so moist and flavorful, which is saying a lot because I'm a chocolate girl. Thank you McLain's Bakery!
McLain's made our beautiful wedding cake and delivered it to our wedding reception at Boulevard Brewery! We were so in love with how it turned out! It not only was fabulous looking but it tasted absolutely delicious as well! Megan was so wonderful to work with, she really took the time to listen to what what it was we wanted along with giving her professional suggestions! She brought our ideas to life! I highly recommend McLains! We not only used them for our wedding but also used them for my bridal shower as well!
