TLDR: Dave was hands-down the best vendor we worked with. Finding a photographer, you can confide in, laugh with, feel comfortable with, and can ultimately trust to understand you ...and what you want for your big day, is the KEY to a seamless wedding and stress-free planning. Dave is all of those things AND he knows how to capture the great moments. His engaging yet calming confidence and expertise put me at ease from the beginning. We cannot recommend him enough!
Full Story: After booking the venue, the photographer was next on our list. I remember being nervous. Iād never gotten married before, and there are so many options when it comes to vendors that it can feel overwhelming. Brian and I knew that we had found āa good oneā after the initial conversation which felt familiar and educational as opposed to āsalesyā or pushy. Dave spent the time getting to know us, and then walked us through what a potential timeline for the big day would look like. I had a list of questions going into the video chat, and Dave had answered all of them before I even got a chance to ask.
In the weeks leading up to the wedding, Dave finalized timelines with us and made sure he knew everything in advance so that the wedding day itself would pretty much run itself. He knew how to walk the fine line between giving advice and offering expertise, without ever pushing his own agenda or going against an ask. In Dave we trusted!
I think I officially became the president of the Dave McShea fan club when he told me that he appreciated me: a bride who knew what she wanted and shared a lot of details. He said it actually made his job easier. Whether thatās true or not, I will never know, but it was EXACTLY what I needed to hear in that moment. (For what itās worth, I think it was true as Dave was genuinely happy to have a āto dip or not to dipā discussion around the ceremony recessional or to view an advanced video recording of our first dance - from multiple angles.)
On the wedding day itself, I remember feeling a huge sigh of relief when Dave, and his awesome second shooter Allison, walked into the get ready room. He immediately took control, without ever feeling controlling. We had built out a plan, and Dave executed it.
Dave spent a LOT of time with us over the next few hours: get ready shots, first looks, wedding party formals, obligatory city hall shot, family formals, and ketubah signing. Then, the wedding began. When I say that I donāt really remember seeing Dave that much during the wedding - I mean it in the best possible way. He was there, I have the HUNDREDS of photos to show for it, but he blended right in! Other than pulling us aside for five minutes to capture the pre-arranged ānight shots,ā Dave didnāt need to ask us questions or ask what he should be doing⦠he already knew.
After the wedding Dave was timely in getting us our sneak peek / highlight photos (literally less than a week after the wedding). We were very pleased to receive all of our photos within a month, perk of getting married in the āoff seasonā I suppose. Brian and I are still scrolling through photos and trying to pick out our favorites (a good problem to have)!
