We did another phone call about a week before the wedding to go over must have photos and things that were important to us, which I thought was really helpful. Our wedding day was seamless, from getting ready all the way to the reception, she captured it all! Emily was super sweet and helpful, too. Even organizing family for group photos was a breeze! She got our sneak peeks to us in 2 days (and when I say sneak peeks I mean 100s of photos). She is an incredible person, and is incredible at what she does! I could not recommend her enough.

Secondly, she was such a joy to work with - she has amazing energy, is so friendly, understood the vision we were going for with our photos, gave us great direction on how to pose and helped corral our large bridal party accordingly for photos. We also had a rainy wedding day and she was great at figuring out our time gaps of no rain to take absolutely stunning photos outside with no umbrellas. Her photos were so amazing no one believed that it was raining! Our family and bridal party all raved about how great and friendly Mekina was and my bridemaids' only complaint was that there were far too many good photos to choose from for their Instagram posts. I would recommend Mekina for any photos you need taken but if you want your wedding photos to be ones you can look at time and time again for a lifetime, there's no one better!

Mekina has such a warm, sunny disposition that put us at ease the whole day, and that sense of ease and fun totally came through in the photos. In taking our formal portraits, she directed us in ways that the good pictures just followed naturally, and she has SUCH a good eye for finding great shots. She was attuned to environmental details, body positions, even the way my hair was falling in a given moment that could affect the shot, and she spoke up so we could correct these things so we got the best pictures possible. She was even able to get our dog's attention long enough to sit for some pictures, which are some of our favorites of the day. I really appreciated the process leading up to the day as well - Mekina took a real interest in getting to know us as a couple and the style of photos that we wanted, and the communication re: logistics of the day was seamless. She was very receptive to our requests (even some that were quite specific) re: the types of photos we wanted. The "sneak peek" gallery that we got immediately after the wedding blew us away with regards to both the scope and quality of the pictures, and the full gallery that we got later again exceeded our expectations. She and her assistant truly captured every moment of the day and then some, and the pictures are stunning. Overall, Mekina is a highly skilled photographer - her technical talent; her upbeat, calming, warm presence; and her ability to effectively guide the shots all added up to the best wedding pictures we could have imagined. I would hire her again in a heartbeat. I am certain that if you hire her for your wedding you will be equally blown away.

here. After scouring websites and galleries, I found myself unimpressed with the options that both fit our “vibe” and price point. Having seen Mekina’s work on Instagram and loving the bright/airy look of her photos, I decided to reach out even though she was based in the NYC/New Jersey area. We met for lunch and we discussed what the hope was for our wedding pictures, Mekina shared how she could meet our desires, and she also shared samples of her work. Rather than feeling like I was meeting with someone to discuss important business, I honestly felt like I was having lunch with an old friend. Following lunch, I went home and signed Mekina’s contract. Even though we had about 16 months to go before the wedding, Mekina stayed in touch and was eager to hear about any updates to wedding plans. We also did our engagement pictures with Mekina in Brooklyn and it was a PERFECT way for my now husband and I to practice taking pictures considering we are not exactly the most photogenic people. After delivering our engagement pictures, Mekina reached out to see if there were “poses” that I loved from the engagement pictures and anything that I didn’t like. We were able to determine that I HATE pictures of my right side so when the wedding came, Mekina knew to reposition me so that pictures weren’t taken on my right side. About a month before the wedding, Mekina sent a survey to find out all of the finalized plans for the wedding as well as to ask if there were any must-have pictures. Mekina came down to New Orleans a couple days before the wedding and mapped out our different event locations. She also mapped out locations to take pictures the day of. Her preparedness truly amazed me! When Mekina arrived to the bridal suite the day of the wedding, it was as if another close friend had arrived to get ready. She is literally the most sociable, easy-going person EVER and really has a way of putting you at ease. I cannot tell you how important this is considering we probably spent more time with Mekina on our wedding day than we did with anyone else! Mekina made EVERYONE around feel just as comfortable which I think really added to the authenticity of every picture she took. Even today, my family still talks about Mekina as if she is an old friend and they weren’t even the ones who spent all their time with her on our wedding day! Within a couple weeks after the wedding, Mekina delivered our “sneaks” and within a few months, we received our full online gallery. Honestly, I wept SO MANY tears of joy upon looking at our pictures. I knew Mekina took amazing pictures, but to see your own pictures of the most exciting, happy day of your life exceed even your own expectations was something I was not prepared for. I now tell EVERYONE planning a wedding that if they are still looking for a photographer, they NEED to reach out to Mekina! It is clear how much she LOVES her job and how passionate she is about photographing weddings. I said it at the beginning of this review and I’ll say it again, hiring Mekina was the absolute BEST decision we made for our wedding!

were soo easy to work with and we’re so helpful the entire day. They even kept our young flower girls happy and smiling by playing with them and keeping them entertained. After our ceremony Mekina had suggested to stop and take pictures at a different location nearby before the reception. These pictures came out AMAZING and MAGICAL. It was the first and easiest decision we made as a couple (no joke and no regrets. we hired her even before we officially booked our venue). She has such an incredible eye, and I was immediately taken by her work. Oh and did I mention she is a DELIGHT to be around? As was her second photographer, Kelly - lucky me! They were both extremely enthusiastic and are incredibly skilled at getting everyone to feel comfortable in front of a camera. I was a bit worried the day of the wedding because of overcast skies and of and on rain, but Mekina and Kelly were always level headed and calm keeping everything running smoothly and on schedule. They even went above and beyond and came a day early to scope out the sites for the wedding/reception as well as document our lobster bake rehearsal dinner; it was so special. Not only that, but I am still blown away by the end of the night firework photos she captured with us lovebirds in the foreground. The best part is that Mekina is always accessible and makes herself available to you whether it's in person or through email/text/ facetime, or over the phone. Wedding planning can get really hectic but Mekina made the planning process and wedding day run smoothly. She even provided us with a timeline and schedule for our wedding day! I cannot stop looking at the wedding pictures Mekina took for us. We received so many compliments from family and friends on our pictures. The hardest part will be narrowing down which ones we want to print!

ce. Starting from our engagement session, Mekina was so accommodating and met us in Brooklyn at 6am to get the most perfect photos on the Brooklyn Bridge before the crowds showed up. She made sure she knew the area and was able to bring us to all of the best spots for gorgeous photos. She even brought her personal beach cruiser bicycle so that we could get some fun shots with it as well. Fast forward to our wedding day, Mekina showed up early and got the job done. I was stressing over people being all over the place, and running late to my first look, but she made sure we got all the photos we wanted. She worked well with our video team and helped keep the day organized (despite a couple curve balls I was thrown during the day). My family & bridal loved her and Kelly (her second shooter), she was even able to get my nephews to behave during our photos!!! Also, one of the most important things is that she’s non-invasive and blends into your party, but yet, she gets the most perfect photos. You don’t want a photographer who is in your face all day, or who is blocking your family/friends view of your ceremony and speeches, Mekina and her team are great at being in the right place, without ruining your guests experience. Mekina is like having a friend with you all day to make your wedding photography dreams come true! I recommend her to every bride I know, and honestly feel like if you don’t book Mekina you’re missing out!
