I purchased an expensive gold chain from Mesa Jewelers in January 2017 and asked if exchanging the existing clasp for another type of clasp was possible. The jeweler said it was, he ordered the new clasp and told me that he, himself, would do the work of exchanging it in the store. I informed the jeweler that the chain would be holding a very precious medallion and I was concerned about the chain breaking for any reason. He assured me the chain would not break and the medallion would be safe. 5 days later, the chain broke at the place where the clasp was replaced by the jeweler and the medallion was lost. I brought the chain back to Mesa where I was told by the same jeweler and (who I believe) is the manager or owner that exchanging the clasp created weakness in the chain and breakage was to be expected. I reminded them that this opinion was not shared with me at the time I purchased the necklace and I would not have exchanged the clasp had I known replacing it would put the medallion at risk. They did not apologize or offer to examine their process of altering jewelry in their store to prevent this from happening to another customer. Sadly, they showed no concern for the lost medallion. My impression was that my request for a refund on the chain was inconvenient and a nuisance to them. Customer service is clearly not their priority. As I do with many purchases, I chose to bring my business to a small, local retailer when I had several of their competitors from which to choose. I would recommend to others that they take their business elsewhere.
