I’ll admit, as a somewhat circumspect groom, that at the time of some of the photos I thought to myself, “This set up is a bit over the top …”. However, when the pictures arrived post-ceremony, the genius of Michael was more than apparent in what he captured. Image after image caught a great mix of serious and formal, with lighthearted and spontaneous mixed in. His use of light and scenery was extraordinary. Before carrying on with this review, let me be very clear and say that as a reviewer I am not Michael’s father, brother, uncle, cousin, best friend, associate or even Michael himself. I am often suspicious of reviews that seem a bit too positive to be real; but both my wife and I shared the sentiment that he was a perfect component of a perfect day. I would also mention that I am not trying to portray myself as an expert on the nuances of photographic images. But everyone who we have shared our wedding pictures with has glowed with praise on how wonderful his images are, and some of them have significant experience in the world of photography, fashion, and television. Finally, I would add that beside his photographic skill, Michael struck us as just a really good person. He was fun to be around, has the presence of being an artist without being presumptuous in the least, and truly seemed to share in the fun and joy we experienced in our wedding day.

Never once have I seen memories captured the way Michael does. He's a genius! are super awkward in front of a camera but Michael made us look like Will and Kate. We shot photos on the Colorado Street bridge in the middle of a bright hot day, but by the time Michael was done with it that hot and dusty highway off ramp looked like a fairy tale setting. They were very easy-going and unobtrusive, and for much of the time I didn't even realize they were there. However, somehow they managed to capture everything. The bride got the jitters in the run up to the day about timing and logistics (we had a very long gap between ceremony and reception, and the contract was for 8 contiguous hours). Michael Segal full alleviated her concerns and was there throughout the entire day. Michael Segal is an interesting character and exudes a positive energy, putting his subject at ease. His team was extremely responsive to us both before, during, and after the wedding (which was appreciated as we had radio silence from some of our other wedding vendors after committing the deposit). Worth every penny.

After meeting him, and seeing his work, we didn't even talk to any other photographers. If you want someone who takes their job very seriously, but doesn't take themselves very seriously, Michael is your guy. For a bride working full time and with very picky taste in photography, this was a tough one and Michael Segal Photography totally nailed it. The pricing was fair for all they did. My photographer friends urged me to splurge on the best portfolio and they were right. Not only that, Michael really responded to what my particular tastes and my needs were. Every bride is different. He listened to the pictures I responded most to in his portfolio and really delivered in the spirit of that work. I hope I don't get married again, but Michael Segal would be my photographer of choice if I ever did!

What Michael is exceptional at, is figuring out who you are as a couple and really capturing the collective and individual personalities of you both. the basics. He was honest, straightforward and reasonably priced. Most importantly, Michael won me over with his enthusiasm. As soon as I told him where we were having the wedding, he got excited and started throwing out all sorts of ideas for photographs. I hadn’t even hired him yet but he sent me some examples of his work and insisted that I use them for inspiration, even if I didn’t go with him. After just talking to him on the phone, I knew that having Michael at the wedding would make the wedding photography experience fun, creative and easygoing. I was right – many of our wedding guests commented on how friendly he was. They loved him. While we were happy with the posed pictures, we were also really impressed with Michael’s knack for being a fly on the wall and getting great candids. During dinner, I recall leaning over and hugging my new husband. I turned my head, and I saw Michael on the floor behind us getting a beautiful silhouetted shot of us against the background of the party. It is one of my favorite shots of the night!
