The Midland is, without a doubt, one of the best venues we’ve ever worked with. The standout feature? The incredible staff. Kayla, the Event Operations Manager (and truly a master ...
of her craft), made the entire experience seamless. She’s kind, knowledgeable, organized, and always quick to respond to questions or emails. Kayla’s expertise and familiarity with the venue were invaluable throughout both the planning process and the wedding day.
As for the venue itself—breathtaking. Its beauty speaks for itself, requiring little to no extra decor, though it can easily accommodate more elaborate designs. Guests couldn’t stop raving about how stunning it was all night!

The Midland was everything we could’ve hoped for and more in our wedding venue! We wanted somewhere that was in the heart of downtown that was fully decorated and full of history, ...
and that would display the beauty of Kansas City to our guests. Our guests raved about how gorgeous, fun, and unique the venue was! Aside from the main theater being the perfect backdrop for the reception and having the space for the biggest, best, most fun dance floor, the lobby was also perfect for our cocktail hour! The entire place took our and our guests’ breath away.
The team at the Midland made the planning process such a breeze - Katie was so warm, encouraging, knowledgable, and knew the answers to questions we didn’t even think to ask! Kayla was so much fun, so calm, and we knew we were in the best hands having her be our point of contact on wedding day. It was so encouraging to us that the Midland team was so well-connected within KC, as our vendors were so excited to work with them. The band loved getting to play on the gorgeous stage, and the Midland team provided a light tech and sound engineer!
Our top 3 favorite moments from our wedding that couldn’t have happened at any other venue:
1. During the cocktail hour, we got to have a private champagne toast with our bridal party in the Chandelier Bar. It was beyond beautiful, and such a perfect way to take a breath with our best friends between the ceremony and reception!
2. We surprised our guests with a grand entrance onstage, bursting out from behind the curtains! As people who have attended countless concerts at the Midland, it was a blast getting to go backstage and have our rockstar moment!! (We were also way too excited that we got to be in the talent’s greenroom - we got to use the same restroom that Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan have used!!!)
3. The Midland staff, the band, our photographer, and our day-of coordinator created the most amazing surprise for our guests. After taking a group picture on the dance floor with all our guests, the curtains immediately lifted to reveal the band, who started playing, and no one left the dance floor all night!! It was the perfect way to kick off a night of dancing!
The Midland will always hold such a special place in our heart - they made our wedding day all that it was and more!

We can't say enough good things about Katie, Kayla and the Midland staff. They were so responsive and accommodating, and if there is a more beautiful venue in KC, I have not seen ...
it. It is such a special spot for a large wedding, and all of our guests loved this evening. Huge thank you to the entire team at the Midland Theatre for making our daughter's wedding so special.

. Katie, Eric and the staff at the Midland are all too-notch professionals who know how to execute a flawless event. Because it is a theater the sound is amazing and no one will miss any of the toasts. The bridal party and the newly married couple get to come out of the curtain when they are announced! And the venue is stunning—our guests ohhed and ahhed all night. Katie, I can’t recommend the Midland enough!

d of our fabulous, magical wedding reception with all of our closest family and friends. The beauty of the venue cannot be beat in all of Kansas City!
We were thrilled with the bar service, as well as the look of the photo booth. It was fun to design the Gobo display on the curtain, marqee sign outside, and looping photo slideshow on the monitors spread throughout the venue. There are many beautiful areas for photos. We did our wedding party photos there, as well as the bridal photos. We were even surprised how many gorgeous spots our guests found to take pictures, too. The parking situation and hotel availability was great. The wedding party was able to do a happy hour at the Chandelier Bar. It was fun for the wedding party to walk through the underground tunnel and get announced on stage. The Midland staff has a secure area for wedding party's personal items. Midland's sound technicians make it feel like your reception is one of their great concerts. Many guests positively commented on the sound and audio quality.
We didn't want a reception in a trendy loft-like space. We were going for classy, timeless, and elegant and this venue more than fits the bill. All in all, it's just hard to beat having your wedding reception in downtown Kansas City in a historic, convenient, breathtaking location.

The Midland provided one of the best wedding venue experiences I've ever had as a wedding planner. We had many special requests for this 450 guest wedding and they went above and ...
beyond to accommodate my clients on each one. Their communication was very quick and thorough. We had lots of details to manage and The Midland was on top of all of them. They made my job so much easier and I am looking forward to the next opportunity to work with them! Thank you!

ass! Most people get married ON the stage, but we thought this was a little much, so we were married on the floor in front of the stage. It was BEAUTIFUL and a much more intimate experience. The professional lighting, sound and bar staff made our night unforgettable. We had a band, performers and a DJ so the lighting and sound was important. Thank you so much to the Midland for hosting our holiday wedding - I may be biased, but I have yet to see anything else like it!

florals and the candlelight. Cocktail hour in the Chandelier Bar for the wedding party was perfect! The only negative was the parking situation being two blocks away.

We hosted our wedding at the Midland in June 2015. I dreamed of getting married at a vintage theater, and the Midland's fully-restored 1920s charm more than delivered.
I'm not ...
kidding when I say it was the first, and ONLY venue we toured in KC. We moved here just shy of a year ago, and had seen many venues back East, and this place blew us away immediately. Every inch of this place is gorgeous/authentic. From the red carpet entrance with our names on the marquee, to the gorgeous custom gobo light against the velvet grand stage curtain, it was a perfect night. Our guests were in awe from the second they arrived, and are still raving, as are we.
As for service, Katie, Susan and the entire tech crew are incredibly organized, creative and attentive. I'm a producer, and I felt like I was working a live event in every interaction with the entire team, be it via phone, email or in-person. Every question was answered, every detail reviewed. The girls even went as far as checking in with me personally while I was in the make-up chair to assure day-of set-up was happening exactly as planned. My vendors (and even our Rabbi!) were equally impressed with the Midland staff.
There are two small items that should be considered -- Photography: it's a theater, and therefore dark. If you really want to capture all the intricate detail, have your photog tour the space and bring in extra lighting. Maybe even take some sample snaps for you. If you're looking for the bright, light, airy shots that you see in bridal mags, maybe this isn't for you. If you like photo-journalistic shots, and don't mind looking like a Broadway diva, book away, baby.
Liquor: booze is secured through the Midland, and you/your caterer are not allowed to provide your own. They have a variety of packages, the stuff is top-shelf, and the bartenders are fantastic. Just be sure to discuss these details and consider your budget, as it can add up for a big crowd.
Ah yes, the crowd! DO NOT be intimidated by the size of the space. While they often hold galas for hundreds, we had all of 50 guests (yes, FIFTY) and it was an amazing, intimate experience. The room is taller than it is wide, so we never felt dwarfed by the space. If anything, it helped things feel more exclusive/grand.
If you're a bride on the fence, just visit, and just imagine kissing your new husband at the chandelier bar upstairs -- you will be sold on the spot. We were.

I can hardly find the words to describe how amazing The Midland Theatre is! I don't think you can find a more gorgeous reception venue in Kansas City - and as a bride who also liv...
es in Los Angeles, I honestly feel confident the Midland could rival most major venues in California as well. All of my guests and bridal party were completely blown away as soon as they walked inside. Everyone was in awe, and even a month after my wedding they are still making comments about how magical it was!
Though it is a bit on the pricey side as far as KC reception venues go, it's worth every penny. And as another bride said in her review, you get a lot included in that price - lighting, set-up and breakdown, and you seriously barely even need a floral budget when you book The Midland because this place is already decorated for you! I did have a florist of course, but I found that I didn't need too many arrangements at all because The Midland is already so romantic on its own, the flowers nearly go unnoticed!
All of the staff at The Midland were extremely friendly and helpful. Katie, the Events Director, always got back to our e-mails immediately as we planned the wedding, and communicated with our other vendors as well. The night of, I was surprised that Katie was there and was so involved in the reception; she worked with the DJ and cake staff to make sure that everything was done right and on schedule. She happened to be nearby backstage when I needed my wedding dress bustled, and even without a bridesmaid around to help, she had my dress tied up in moments!!!
Another thing that Midland will save you money on is their sound system - since they hold concerts there all the time, it is an amazing system. My DJ gave me a discount because they wouldn't need to bring speakers and other extra equipment because The Midland already had it all.
I also really loved the location of The Midland - I had many out-of-town guests because I do live in another state, and they all stayed only one block away at The Hotel Phillips (there are a few other great hotels right on the same block). And Midland is directly across the street from The Power and Light District in downtown KC - which has tons of restaurants and bars. After our reception ended at midnight, we simply took the party across the street to an amazing lounge that was open until 3am!
In summary, not only is The Midland maybe the most stunning place in Kansas City (I ended up choosing it over the beautiful Union Station), but it also boasts a wonderful staff, tons of room, great lighting and sound, as well as a fantastic location. If it fits into your budget, you shouldn't even think twice. Book it before someone else does!!!

What a wonderful place to have a wedding! The atmosphere is incredible and the staff are even better. I was married on September 10th 2011. I used the Green Roof for my ceremony an...
d the Midland for my reception.
For booking the Midland they gave me a wedding planner, Cara Smith. Let me tell you with the Midland staff all I had to do was find the vendors. Cara called each vendor to set up a time to meet and discuss necessities. She also coordinated the entire day, I did absolutely nothing except enjoy myself.
Rental of the Midland in the off season (which I recommend because the price is 50% off) will run you $5,000 however this included the entire building from 9am to 1am, all the lighting staff, a wedding planner, and free range for photography. Definitely worth the price!
Feeding people at a reception in down town Kansas City is not a cheap venture, I would say if you have a budget of 30,000 or less you might need to look else where. However the staff at the midland will work with almost any budget to make the evening as perfect as you want it
If this venue fits into your budget I would not suggest looking anywhere else!!
