Minyan Zhu

Minyan Zhu is the absolute dream wedding photographer. When my husband and I first saw his photos online, we knew he had incredible talent. There was a beautiful, happy lightness to his photos, all of which conveyed a true joy captured at each couple’s special day. The first time I contacted him, he was very open and professional. We talked over the phone about my and my husband’s vision for the day, and his relaxed and happy personality, along with his confidence in our vision, solidified our working together. In person, Minyan is the kindest, most genuine person you will ever meet. The energy that surrounds him is so optimistic and light that you can’t help but want to be around him. It is a true pleasure to work with someone who makes everyone around him feel comfortable and cheerful, a fact that every person who attended our wedding mentioned. Even though we hardly noticed him moving around to take pictures that day, everyone noticed his kind personality. Minyan’s photos themselves were exactly what we had hoped for. They captured the warm, happy light of the day even when a few clouds were overhead. He is a master of finding the beauty in the ordinary: flowers on a table, a hand behind the back, two people walking down a stone lane, seemingly unseen. Most meaningful of all, he takes every chance to show the relationship between people and give that relationship life through the camera. Minyan was so meticulous and diligent in editing our photos, and we couldn’t be happier with how they turned out. We couldn’t feel luckier that we got to work with such a wonderful person, and we wish him all the success in the world.

We hired Minyan for our wedding in 2015 and could not have been happier. Min is a total professional with a truly artistic eye. In looking for photographers, we saw so many uncomfortably staged photos that just felt a little off. We were striving for those candid moments that captured the real emotion of the day and that was completely Min's style. He went for "the moment between the moments," as he put it. The pictures came out amazing. In addition, Min is totally cool to work with. He's easy going and completely flexible. I threw a pretty big change at him the day before the wedding that affected the length of time we had for photos. He went with it, changed up our strategy and we still got everything we wanted. I felt completely comfortable and trusted his judgement, which made for one less thing to worry about during the planning process. We cannot recommend him enough!

When looking for my wedding photographer, I initially sought out the woman who photographed my sister's wedding in 2012. Unfortunately, she had already been booked for my wedding day; however, she strongly recommended her good friend Minyan Zhu. She stated that if she were to ever get married, he would be the person to photograph her special day. After getting this recommendation, I knew that I had to meet this man. On a cold, snow storm of a day, Minyan and I met at a coffee shop in West Hartford where we spent a few hours enjoying coffee chatting about his photography style and enjoying each other's company. Saying that Minyan was a pleasure to work with is an understatement. Not only did his photographs have the vintage feel that he promised, but they captured the beauty and fun of the day. During the wedding he, and his assistant managed to capture all the important moments without invading our or our guests space. I highly recommend him for capturing your special day. You will not be disappointed.

Minyan's style is casual, photo journalistic and full of life. He really worked with us to make our pictures personal and he was laid back enough to make us feel completely at ease with having so many pictures taken of us. He's quite stealth - we didn't even know he was there taking all the candids he did during ceremony and reception!
