Ernie and his girlfriend, Evelyn, were our horse carriage vendors for our brunch wedding at Horizon View Farms on Sunday, September 23rd. I was trying to think of another surprise for my husband for the morning of the wedding. Although it was a bit of stretch for our budget, I was working with a vendor recommended by the coordinator (Exquisite Event Planners Co.) for a few months before the wedding. Bobbi’s horse, Dandy, had become lame and we agreed it was best to not plan for him to be able to be present that day. The same day (just two weeks before the wedding at this point), I reached out to Ernie who Bobbi recommended. Ernie was responsive, answered all my questions, went over my plan with me, and we agreed the same day to book the date and time. Ernie understood that the two-horse carriage was a surprise for my future husband and mother-in-law so that the groom had an entrance as well—Ernie would set up behind the barn/reception area to remain unseen until it was time for them to drive up to pick up the groom and mother of the groom. He knew I wanted them to be taken down to the ceremony after I had left so I would remain unseen from my husband until the white ceremony doors we brought to the venue opened for the first time. Then the carriage would be around for photos with the guests and their children then take my husband and I back up to the reception to meet our friends and family to end cocktail hour and start the reception. Ernie sent me the contract in the mail which I filled out and sent him an electronic copy of for the sake of time.
Ernie, Evelyn, and the horses did wonderfully. Ernie and Evelyn were in formal wear and the horses was freshly bathed and white. Both horses were very well trained, behaved while getting ready, during the ride even with some tight turns and backing up, and very open to guests petting and posing with them. It was Ernie/Misty Haven’s first time at this particular venue – normally they have done rides at The Hayloft up the road. I explained the layout to him since it can be difficult with logistics going from the barn to ceremony deep in the woods. He ended up checking out the layout himself to be certain. I worked directly with Ernie throughout the process, confirmed details with him the day before, and he was a pleasure to work with. Evelyn sent me a couple of great photos that same night of Taylor and I sitting in the carriage behind them and an adorable rear shot of the horses with the overcast sky in front them. Ernie also reached out to me that night to send a text wishing a long, healthy, and happy marriage and complimented “very beautiful bride.” It’s always nice to hear from vendors even after wedding when the business side or transaction has ended. I would HIGHLY recommend them for another wedding or special event. It’s best to reach him by phone rather than via the website or email 😊 Misty Haven was a dream to work with…especially for an out-of-town bride!
