Meet MadMike — Owner, Lead DJ & Creator of the Signature Wedding Weekend Mike's journey with Modern Era Weddings started in 2011, when he first joined the company as a DJ in Pittsburgh. After years of perfecting his craft and building a reputation for high-energy, non-cheesy, truly personalized wedding parties, Mike took over ownership of the company in 2015 — bringing his vision for full-scale wedding entertainment to life. In 2017, after DJing one of the founder’s weddings in Miami, Mike expanded Modern Era Weddings into Florida and officially began building what would become the company’s national destination wedding footprint. Over the years, Mike’s approach has evolved far beyond traditional DJ services. His creation of the Signature Wedding Weekend system transformed Modern Era Weddings into a full-service entertainment brand — delivering multi-day wedding experiences that include professional DJs, live musicians, lighting design, photo booths, videography, and full production management for destination weddings, private estates, and resort takeovers across the country and beyond. Today, Mike leads one of the industry’s most respected luxury wedding entertainment teams, personally overseeing each client experience, coaching his DJ team, and designing custom entertainment plans that reflect each couple’s unique style, energy, and vision. Monica has been part of the Modern Era Weddings family since 2015, starting as our office manager and growing into her role today as our Director of Operations. But weddings and entertainment have always been in her blood — growing up with a DJ brother, she was immersed in the world of music, events, and high-energy parties from the start. Now, Monica plays a key role behind the scenes making sure every Modern Era event runs smoothly — from booking to planning to execution. She works directly with our couples, planners, and venues to coordinate timelines, organize vendor teams, and ensure every entertainment detail is perfectly in place. When she's not managing wedding weekends, Monica keeps her microphone skills sharp as a trivia hosts at her company Linear Events — she also proudly claims the title of "wanna-be DJ.", and we can't wait until she hones her skills enough to be one of our traveling wedding DJs! Her passion for planning, her eye for detail, and her love for seeing great parties come to life make her an essential part of every Modern Era wedding. DJ Mad Mike was LITTTT!!! Him and the company Modern Era Weddings was super easy to work with. They were super informative in the planning process, they provide a super cool portal for you to put in your songs for every part of your day. Since my wife and I are both women the portal was a little difficult because it said “Bride” and “Groom” BUT the second I brought it up to Mike if we could change it to make it easier, he was more than happy to make the changes for us. Super LGBT friendly company and DJ. As for our wedding night, Mike was legit the best DJ we could have imagined. He took our vibe, song requests and do not plays all into consideration and did unreal. He mashed up songs on the fly, never let any song end abruptly and a new one start. He did great transitions and never missed a beat. People were RAVING about our wedding ever since and one of the things they keep saying is “your DJ was amazing and it made the whole party”. Mike even did the coolest thing for my wife and I where he recorded a chunk of our vows from our ceremony and mashed them into our recentional song during the reception. It was a moment we will remember forever. It was so special and thoughtful. Booking him was worth every cent. If you’re thinking its out of your budget, reconsider!!!! Id spend twice as much as we did knowing how much he killed it!!

Jason, CloudTheDJ was incredible and everything we were looking for in a DJ. Him and his staff were extremely personable, did a great job during the ceremony/cocktail hour, and had everyone dancing the whole reception. The photobooth was also a must add! DJ Mike is an absolute master of his craft—a true genius. He is reliable, responsive, and everything a bride could hope for to make the day perfect. The entire process leading up to the wedding was smooth and stress-free. By not hiring Mike, you'd be doing yourself a disservice. He went above and beyond, far exceeding our expectations. He catered to last-minute special requests and really put in the extra effort to make our night unforgettable. From our very first meeting with DJ Jason, he made us feel so comfortable and we instantly knew we were in great hands. He really took the time to get a feel for what kind of music we like and what kind of vibe we wanted for the day. He even helped us so much with figuring out the small details on how we wanted the day to run (many of which we hadn’t even thought about so thank you Jason). He curated the most perfect playlist for our wedding and truly made the whole day run so smoothly. We received so many compliments on our DJ and how fantastic the music was. Our dance floor was packed the entire night! We cannot thank Jason enough for making our day beyond perfect. We hired Modern Era to do both our photo booth & DJ! Let me just say Monica made our Photo Booth strips exactly how we wanted & they came out magnificent! We hired DJ Jason to control the music, & let me just say he will not disappoint! He had the music flowing perfectly throughout the ceremony & into our reception. Once it hit party time he had all the jams playing to get every body of all ages on the dance floor! All of our guests raved how much they loved the mix by DJ Jason & they loved the pics from the Photo Booth! Definitely worth every penny! We had so much fun at our wedding thanks to our DJ, Jason from Modern Era! I can honestly say I was very confident in this company leading up to the wedding. The communication was timely, friendly, and helpful and their website for planning was easy to use. I literally spent the ENTIRE time during the dance party on the dance floor and our guests had a lot of fun too. Ceremony music and dinner music was exactly as expected as well. We chose the Signature Package and everything included was perfect for our small wedding (approx. 40 guests in attendance). Highly recommend this company and specifically DJ Jason! Would definitely hire them again.

Jason and Monica were amazing! We had such a great time at our wedding, Jason was an awesome DJ and also a great MC- we had multiple different walk out songs and different timings for each song and Jason was able to execute it flawlessly. He was very communicative during the planning process- was available if we had any questions. We partied all night long and the music was fantastic- he even recorded some speeches to share with us! Monica was also amazing during the booking and planning process- she was super friendly and communicative. During our wedding, Monica engaged with every guest at the Photobooth and really went above and beyond to make sure our guests had a great time. We hired Jason for our wedding and he was amazing! We got multiple comments from guests about how well he was mixing the music. He was great about playing songs from our preferred song list, and even when he took the reins and played some of his own choices everything blended perfectly. Can’t recommend him enough!

Stop searching right now and hire Mike!! I was that person that researched every DJ I could possibly find, because I wanted the best party ever, a night where no one left the dance floor. DJ Mike ABSOLUTELY surpassed that expectation. He is that DJ that understands a crowd within just minutes, and curates the PERFECT mix, in tandem with the vibes, as the night progresses. Everyone danced their hearts out, and so many people came up to us that night raving about Mike and commenting "BEST DJ EVER!". Beyond giving us the party of our lives, Mike added so many extra touches to the day - he equipped our ceremony with mics and speakers, attended the ceremony to make sure things went smoothly (which I did not know until later!), gave us a pep talk before our grand entrance, and even ended the night with a personalized mix of one of our favorite songs. I seriously can't speak highly enough of our experience with Mike, I would recommend him to anyone looking to have the best party of your life!!!

Hire DJ Mike for your wedding!! From the first time we talked to Mike on the phone we knew he was going to be a perfect fit for what we were looking for in a DJ. We had a pretty specific idea of what music we were looking for (and when) and it couldn't have gone any better. Mike's MCing skills kept the day moving smoothly... speeches, intros, dances all went exactly how we envisioned, which given the controlled chaos of a wedding day was extremely helpful for us! But to the most important thing, the MUSIC! One of the biggest compliments I can give to Mike is that at no point in the night did my wife go up to Mike and request another song, and if you know her well, that would shock you. Mike had the dance floor full the entire night with a perfect mix of all the music we were looking for, from a few classics to pop punk to house music. People are still talking about how good the music was at our wedding and we couldn't agree more. If you hire Mike just know you are in for an awesome party, can't recommend him enough!

Jason was amazing and listened to all our needs. He even helped us out last minute when one of our plans fell through. He knew the mood of party and would quickly switch songs if the crowd didn’t seem happy. Jason was great at planning and very available to talk through all our ideas. Monica was amazing with the Photo Booth and so helpful in just getting great content from our reception. We got great feedback from our guests about how great the props were and the sign in guest book.

DJ Mike went absolutely above and beyond to provide THE PERFECT MUSIC. The vibe the whole night was amazing. No one left the dance floor all night. Thanks to him, my reception was exactly what I envisioned it to be - - party all night long. He is thoughtful in his planning and ensures that everything is perfect for the cocktail hour, dinner, and reception. For the wedding ceremony music, everything was perfect down to the second. He went out of his way to understand our vision and what we wanted and executed it perfectly. They even helped with lighting. The photobooth was awesome and they even gave us a physical and digital album with a copy of everyone's photos from the night.Truly amazing, stop looking for a DJ and book them now! Jason is a fantastic DJ! It felt like he was more than just a DJ, almost a day of coordinator! He was very prepared and helpful in the planning. Then on the wedding day, Jason kept everything moving smoothly from before the ceremony to end of reception. His music kept the party going all night! He played a wide variety of music and kept people dancing and having fun. He has a great sound system and did a nice job mixing everything, so there was no space between songs. He very patiently took a lot of requests from our guests too!!! Haha There was some weather challenges on our wedding day and Jason was very reassuring and accommodating. Venue staff didn’t seem very concerned with helping us make decisions during changing weather and Jason stepped up to help us make the most of our night. He offered a lot of solutions, and then just partied in the rain with us! Overall, Jason is a very kind, helpful and personable guy. You can tell he takes a lot of pride in what he does and did a fantastic job DJing our wedding! I’d recommend him very highly for any event!!

This was my first time working with Modern Era. Wow DJ Jason was amazing. His personality is so gentle and he was so accommodating throughout the entire wedding. We had medical scares with guests before the ceremony and he was right on it and could ready my hand messages from across the site and new exactly what to do to entertain and calm the guests within seconds. We can't recommend DJ Mike more!!! One of the things my partner and I cared most about for our wedding reception was having an amazing DJ, and DJ Mike was that AND MORE!! The process was so collaborative - whether it was through calls or using his online portal to make our song selections - everything was super easy. We also had a customized 'Hora Loca' where we wanted to curate different genres of music and DJ Mike helped to make that come to life and exceeded our expectations!! Everyone at our reception was saying how much they loved the music / DJ and were dancing all night long! On top of that, Mike is an amazing guy - we were delayed entering the reception and he was so thoughtful and checking in on us and even bringing us tapas to nibble on while everything was getting sorted. We are so grateful that we chose him and recommend him to anyone hands down!!

Seriously THE BEST!! From the first phone call with Mike to help get me started to the last second of having Jason (our DJ) with us on Saturday, everything is perfect and easy! They did not disappoint! Jason just understood us from the first interview. He is so well diverse in his music and mixing everything together. Mike and Modern Era weddings were absolutely phenomenal from booking to the day of the wedding! He explained the entire process to us and really helped us build our playlist. At the wedding, he was smooth and professional, he even mixed in a few of his own songs that were not on our playlist based on the crowds vibe. He literally could not have done a better job we were beyond thrilled! His team is so professional and they set up the DJ booth in a way that enhanced our room. The up lighting was great and so was our dancing on the clouds. 10/10 the best DJ to hire. Our guests had a blast, the dance floor was not empty once!!! Thank you so much for everything Mike, we will definitely be working with you again!

Mike and Modern Era absolutely nailed it. He was very professional and understood exactly what we wanted to accomplish. All of our favorite songs were not only played, but also mixed in a creative and fun way that made for a great party. If you're looking for a DJ, look no further, seriously!!! Modern Era was able to work with our budget with no hesitation at all and their communication is phenomenal and so timely. But let me get to the best part - DJ Xavier. WOW was he an absolute blast!!! He truly made our small wedding feel like a huge party. I don't think anyone could sit down the entire time because he just kept the songs coming perfectly for the group! I've been to quite a few weddings and I have to say, mine was the best one and that's largely due to Xavier's personality and talent as a DJ!!! 10/10+++

We wanted someone who was experienced with weddings and could do all of the introductions, first dance, etc., well, but also could create a young, party-like atmosphere after the formalities were completed. The company uses a great online planning tool where you can pick all of the songs you want for specific events during your wedding and add songs to must play or do not play lists. It was great to be able to do that over time and make sure everything was just right for our big day. At our wedding, Kevin did a great job of keeping people on the dance floor without any gimmicky line dance songs, and he made sure my husband and I had a great time. We already had friends who attended book him for their own wedding!

We hired DJ John Stepansky from Modern Era Weddings. John was absolutely amazing!!! We could not have asked for a better DJ. John was so in tune with what we were looking for on our big day (6/29/19). He even set up a meeting the week of our wedding to go over the details and meet each other since we had booked him over the phone. He played all of the songs we had on our must play list and then filled in the rest of the party with perfect choices! I didn't want to leave the dance floor all night! We got SO many compliments from our guests on our DJ. My maid of honor even commented that John looked like he was having as much fun as we were while DJ'ing! We would 100% recommend that engaged couples trust DJ John with their wedding music needs!

Going with Mike and Modern Era was the best decision we made. We had so much fun at our wedding and that was directly tied to the professionalism, attitude, and skills of our DJ. Working with Mike was such an easy process. He was always available and easy to contact through text or email. He uses a straightforward portal tool to get all of the details and song choices for the big day. He has a great taste in music and a true sense of what it takes to put on a great party. He also did a great job MCing the event and kept us on task and on schedule. Finally, he was gracious enough to cut our first dance song to make it flow and sound like nothing had been cut at all. I got so many compliments on the DJ and his song selection. The dance floor was popping from start to finish and there wasn’t one single moment where I didn’t like a song that was playing. Working with Mike and Modern Era made our wedding perfect!

If I could give Mike and Modern Era a million stars, I would. As a professional in the wedding industry, I am very familiar with djs and could have picked any number of vendors. However, Mike has long been someone I have respected for his talent, his professionalism and his ability to throw a kick ass party. The two things I wanted for my wedding was a great dinner and a fun dance party. I had a smaller wedding and my absolute biggest fear was that people wouldn't dance and there would be an empty dance floor. I should have know that with Mike at the helm, that would never happen. Literally NO one left the dance floor that night. I barely made it to the bar because as soon as I would think about leaving, another incredible song would come on. People that I have never seen dance in my life were breaking it down on the dance floor. The next day, almost every guest I spoke with commented on how incredible the dj was and how it was one of the most fun weddings they'd ever been to. There is a HUGE difference between hiring a professional dj and an amateur with a laptop. Mike has an insane ability to read the crowd and immediately switch up the songs. There's no cheesiness, no annoying dj interrupting on the mic. Just amazing non-stop music. Do yourself a favor and hire the best in Pittsburgh.

We chose a package with DJ, Uplighting, Photographer and Photobooth. Everything was absolutely amazing! The photobooth is so much fun! Our guests loved it -- a few props made it on the dance floor and the photos turned out great. I received a photo album at the end of the night with a disk of every picture =) I also went away after and emailed Kelly because I wanted the photos of my husband and I from the booth but left the disk at home and she emailed me the photos right away!!!! Jenni - our photographer and her husband captured every moment of LOVE throughout our day!!!!! Photos were very important to me, Jenni and I spoke a couple times on the phone - we got an idea of the locations we wanted and everything went smooth - I couldn't believe we had over 1200 amazing photos!!!!! We also got our pictures back so quickly I was the happiest person ever! DJ Mike was so incredibly professional with everything! I made a couple changes or wanted to double check our entrance songs the day before and even made a last minute switch right before the reception and he made it happen. He listened to EVERYTHING we wanted. The final week or so we texts back and forth! He responded immediately to every question! My husband and I had one request and that was to keep everyone on the dance floor and he did just that! The uplighting was so beautiful -- it added to the room perfectly!!!!! We were sooooo happy Modern Era did our Wedding Reception - we definitely wouldn't have found anyone better for our day!!!!!!

We could not have asked for a better DJ than Mike Willis! After our thorough first meeting, my husband and I felt super confident in our choice. We were provided with a very helpful planning tools that I allowed us to organize our order of the events, the timeline, and all details of the big day. We even were able to choose a playlist, a maybe playlist, and a do not playlist. My husband and I were very specific with our requests for the introduction songs and the special dances songs and Mike followed through with all of our wishes! He even listened to us and to our family and friends as we made new song requests as the night went on! Mike has such a great attitude and his only focus was making our wedding day music dreams come true! We were so happy with our choice!

When you meet Mike, you will immediately know that he's the right person to DJ your wedding. I certainly did. When it came to our wedding, the most important aspect for me (the groom) was music. My wife and I wanted a dance party that didn't stop. Mike provided that in spades. Our wedding was in May 2018, and our guests still talk about how amazing the music was. Mike is a professional DJ - he doesn't just have a playlist or autoplay songs on an iPhone. He will play remixes, read the crowd to switch out a song if it's not working, and provides a high energy as a wedding MC. We met with Mike before the wedding to go over what we were looking for, both in terms of dance music and ceremony/cocktail hour. Mike was with us every step of the way. He even recommended glow sticks for our dancing - and he was right, they were a total hit! I wish every wedding I attended would have Mike spinning the music. He certainly will give you an awesome night that you'll never, ever forget.
