Our wedding cake showed up looking nothing like what we had ordered, not even the correct color. When we first expressed our distaste for the way the cake looked, we received a lot of "well I don't know what you want me to do about it now, I don't have time to make another cake." They did take the cake back and came back with a patchwork cake of trying to make it more appealing to the eye. The second design was a lot better than the first and if they had just done it like this in the first place, it would've be a lot closer to the design requested. When they returned with the cake, they were a lot easier to work with. They were very apologetic and did provide us with a full refund. The cake's taste was just as amazing as when we had our cake tasting.
Our cake table is something that still sticks out about our day. The cake was beautiful and exactly what we wanted! From our tasting through our big day, Monica's was amazing! Go with classic vanilla and chocolate-- yummy! Their prices were also totally doable!
Well, my experience with Monica's is an interesting one. I discovered her shop at the Wichita bridal expo, it was the ONLY cake that I enjoyed. It is dense, and the frosting is cream cheese. It started off well, Monica drew out sketches of what my cakes would look like and how much they would cost, this was the good part. A month before the wedding, I got a call saying that I needed to come in and have another meeting. I went in, and found out that Monica had sold out and that she took all of the money that I, along with everyone else, had paid for our cakes. The new owner did her best to make things right, including taking a $400 loss on a $700 cake. The day of the wedding, I saw my main cake, it was completely wrong. It was supposed to have sunflowers cascading down from the top tier to the bottom. The actual cake had a single , diagonal row of 5 sunflowers going through the middle tier. To add onto that, the 5 sunflowers had white leaves. It just made no sense. The sunflower cupcakes that I ordered were a different color than the sunflowers on the cake. Overall I was halfway satisfied. The cakes all tasted good, but looked horrible. I think the decorator just didn't bother to look at the design or something like that. I understand that taking over a business is tough, but you have to make sure your customers are happy.
