The grounds are named after Robert W. Monk III, who donated the initial 19 acres of land to develop a public garden to connect people with nature and build a sustainable future. The Gardens offer educational environmental programs that promote a better understanding of the ecological, economic, and aesthetic role of plants. They opened in 2003 and gained non-profit status the following year.  Monk Botanical Gardens has six different outdoor event spaces to choose from to say “I do” and begin the new chapter of your lives together. Each area gives you a different atmosphere inspired by nature and with varying capacities. You can choose from the Kitchen Potager, Gazebo Garden, Memory Circle, Treehouse, Shade & Hosta Garden, and the more recent English Garden. An indoor event space is also available, should you desire.
