We got married at MVM recently, and while I still think it’s one of the most beautiful venues in the area, our experience with the owner, Amy, left us feeling disappointed and stre...ssed in the final days leading up to our wedding.
The property itself is gorgeous, scenic, peaceful, and worth the 20-minute drive through backroads. The layout is great, and the overall price is extremely reasonable compared to similar venues. It includes tables, chairs, and linens. Amy has also added nice touches like a fire pit and some decorative features that make the space feel special.
Unfortunately, Amy tends to overpromise and underdeliver. During our tour, she told us everything we wanted to hear. Every question was met with “absolutely”. But many of those promises fell through or changed at the last minute.
Communication was one of the biggest issues. I had reached out several times with questions (including sending required insurance forms), and she often didn’t respond. Then, just four days before the wedding, I received a text saying that our bartenders cannot serve liquor since they aren't part of a formal bartending company, despite confirming multiple times beforehand that they could. We had verified this before even booking, since it was a deal breaker at another venue. This caused unnecessary panic and scrambling days before the wedding for something that should’ve been clarified long before.
We also ran into multiple last-minute rule changes. The same week, Amy told us that everything had to be out by midnight (contradicting what she had told us earlier and what our decor vendor said she normally allows), and that we were supposedly only allowed to be at the venue for five hours on Thursday, even though our contract clearly stated that Thursday was included all day for setup and rehearsal, as noted by many other reviewers (one of the reasons we chose a Friday wedding). Expecting decor setup and rehearsal dinner to be completed within a span of 5 hours MAY have been possible, had we not needed the extra time to fix their setup mistakes.
On Thursday, tables and chairs were placed incorrectly. We were short around 100 chairs, which we later found stacked outside, wet, and dirty. We had to set them in the sun to dry off and then clean them. We also had to move the pergola ourselves even though we had specified it should be removed from the ceremony aisle during our walkthrough. The bridal suite still had no privacy covering on the large front window, which I had specifically raised concern about a month prior and was told would be fixed. The table cloths ranged from pristine to obvious, large dark stains on some. By that point, I wasn’t surprised. It was a pattern of things being promised but not followed through on.
She told us the 72" round tables comfortably sat 12, but on the day of, that was clearly not the case. Guests were shoulder to shoulder, and those tables realistically seat 10 at most. It wasn’t the end of the world, but it’s another example of how poor communication caused unnecessary stress and inconvenience
This venue truly is beautiful, and if you’re lucky enough to have everything go smoothly, you’ll probably have an amazing wedding day. The venue itself deserves 5 stars, but Amy’s communication, inconsistent follow-through, and professionalism fell short. Be prepared to triple-confirm every detail and expect to manage last-minute issues yourself. Highly recommend getting EVERYTHING in writing.
