I do not recommend getting your alterations done by Musette. I bought my wedding dress at Musette and worked with their seamstress Lily for the alterations. After each alterations appointment the dress looked worse and worse. I have never bought a wedding dress or had anything altered in the past so I naively thought it would all come together in the end. I did bring up my concerns at every appointment and Lily brushed them off. I trusted her and her process. I was shocked when at the end of an appointment Lily said the dress was done and I needed to schedule a pickup. It was a strapless dress and it was so big and baggy on me it couldn’t stay up. When I told her no way was this dress going to stay up on me she told me was going to sew in an extra hook inside the dress right then. I assumed she was making the change while I was there so I could try it on again. Once she came back with the extra hook in the dress she refused to let me try it on again saying it was fine.
The dress looked nothing like the dress I bought and I was so upset. But I found a woman online who had bought the same dress I had and I brought her photos in to show Lily how the dress was supposed to look. Lily told me this woman, whose dress looked perfect, had “gotten bad alterations”. My dress was short, baggy, and had gigantic cups in the bust that didn’t fit me and left the top gaping. Lily eventually lengthened the dress and took it in but refused to change out the ridiculous cups saying “it was perfect”. The end result was still pretty bad and the dress bubbled and didn’t look right. I had to spend the weekend before my wedding desperately trying (and failing) to get a new dress. I had to pay about $1,000 for Musette to ruin my dress. Please save yourself the stress and money and go elsewhere for any wedding dress alterations!
I absolutely loved working with Musette. I went to my first appointment about 7 months before my wedding and they made me feel very comfortable and didn't rush me even though I didn't have a clear idea what I wanted. I ended up with a beautiful Pronovias dress that already fit like a glove, so I purchased that sample at a great price. The Musette team was extremely helpful and knowledgable during all of my fittings, and they kept me calm when weight fluctuations made it hard to zip up at one of my fittings. They also put in lots of time and effort to do a final steaming and packaging of my dress so that it was in perfect condition after traveling to my wedding venue in Vermont. My dress fit perfectly on my big day, and I have never felt more beautiful. Thank you to Musette for making this part of the wedding planning process so fun and smooth!
The employees were so nice. I bought my daughter an Anne Barge dress. It was beautiful until we got to reception and the wire was sticking into my daughters arm. Then at the reception the dress ripped along the seam. So embarrassing and knowing we paid 7500 with alterations. Musette Bridal said sorry. That was it. Thought by going to a high end bridal store we would get top quality. I would not recommend this bridal shop and spend that extra money. It was so embarrassing!!
I purchased a Berta gown directly from Berta's store in NYC, but as I do not live in NYC, I needed to find a more local atelier to do my alterations. I called Musette, as Berta is extremely delicate and I wanted someone with experience with that brand. They were beyond rude and immediately told me off and said that they would be too busy to work with anyone but their "own brides", without even asking for my timeline (my wedding is 1 year away). This store has an attitude problem and is in need of a culture change.
I had a fabulous experience with Musette! I worked with a consultant named Reese when I was trying on dresses, and she was so sweet and attentive. She made sure I got to try a variety of styles, and she never made me feel pressured to choose any of them. She found a dress in the back that she thought would fit my wish list, but she made sure that I knew before I tried it on that the style had been discontinued, so I would have to buy the sample. I was okay with that, so I tried it on, and it was PERFECT. I absolutely loved my wedding dress, and I'm so happy to have worked with Musette. They were able to give me a great discount for the sample AND for my veil. Their in-house seamstress is a genius. We met several times between February when I found the dress and October when I picked it up for my wedding. She made it fit like a glove, and her work was immaculate. I would definitely recommend this boutique!
I had a very stressful experience with Musette Bridal (aka "Boston Bridal Rack") which included my gown “shrinking” (which in my opinion might have been a scam). Consequentially, I would NOT recommend Musette.
I went to the store around 2 months before my wedding, and was thus limited to samples. After a nice experience, I committed to a “Pronovias Vicenta” gown for $1,200. The lace on the top of the gown came off a little but other than that, the gown was in very good shape and I was happy to purchase it. The dress was several inches too long and ~ 2 sizes too large. We had to clip it in a lot. So, I was going to have to alter the dress later.
I was told that, because the gown was a sample, it would be sent to a professional cleaning service. I had to pay for the dress in full on the day, but had to leave the dress with them for cleaning.
One month after my appointment, the dress was ready for pickup. Luckily, I wanted to try my dress back on when I came. To my disbelief, the dress was suddenly too SMALL and of VERY POOR quality! It was way too short even without wearing shoes (my toes peaked out), whereas before, the dress was way too long even with heels. Moreover, whereas the dress previously had to be clipped around my hips and waist, I could now hardly zip it up. It was so tight that it made me feel very uncomfortable. In addition, the dress was worn down. It was very dirty – grey rather than white. Many parts of the lace seemed to peel off. I got very upset. To me, it felt like I was given a completely different dress – possibly one that was no longer salable due to its poor condition. This was not the same dress I had purchased, and it definitely hadn’t been “cleaned”! I felt scammed, and if I hadn’t tried the dress back on, I think this would have been the end of the story.
I complained. The store manager told me that the dress must have “shrank” during the cleaning. According to the manager, crepe material shrinks when it is exposed to heat. However, I am not sure how even a crepe dress would shrink two full sizes. I made my discontent very clear, and was very upset. I also mentioned that I felt scammed. I was prepared to request my money back, but the manager asked me to give them a week to fix the dress. She said that the in-house seamstress would be able to take out some of the material around the hips, and would be able to press the dress to make it longer again. I was skeptical but accepted the wait.
A week later, I returned. The dress on the hanger was beautiful, white, high quality, like new. It was more beautiful and in better condition than the original sample gown. When I tried the dress on, it was again very long, and much too large. I don’t know how the dress could have transformed so much. From the first, to the second, to the third dress, I had the feeling that these were three different gowns and not the same gown. The third dress, to my satisfaction, looked like an entirely new dress to me. So, I took the dress home.
Even though I received a beautiful dress in the end, I was very stressed throughout. I do not trust this store. I feel like I was almost scammed.
Concluding, stay away! But, if you do end up going there, be skeptical. If you purchase a sample gown, take it with you on your day of purchase. Don’t let them do “cleaning”. Don’t do your alterations with them. Don’t leave your dress out of sight. And, if something goes wrong, speak up! Don’t let yourself get bullied!
Absolutely loved Musette for my Berta wedding gown and all alterations. They did an amazing job making the dress absolutely perfect for the big day. They also treat you like the only bride in the world while you’re shopping there. Definitely has a super classy/customized feel, which I loved. Champagne and pictures are encouraged and welcome. Loved these ladies and highly recommend.
It has been a great experience! I went there thinking I was only going to have a look and get an idea of what style fit me best. Instead - we finished the appointment by selecting the perfect dress! I went in with my two of my closest friends and had my mom and my sister over the phone on Skype. Our assistant was so great every next dress that she pulled addressed all the concerns and wishing list we had expressed as we commented on the previous one. The Romona Kaveza dress I picked was perfect and honestly made for me, although I would have not picked it from the rack! They can listen to what you're looking for and suggest what would be best based on their experience. Also the alteration process was smooth and the final look was phenomenal on the wedding day!
LOVED my dress from Musette!!!
If you did find a wedding gown there (which costs more than the official Vera Wang store), DO NOT do your alteration there! They are a total ripoff, and extremely unreliable.
The alteration process with Musette was a NIGHTMARE. First off, they ordered a size 4 for me (which is WAY TOO BIG), and had to alter it to almost size 0. Second, they gave me a quote of $750 after seeing me in the dress, and promised me that this price includes take-in, hemming, bustling, and cup stitches. They guaranteed that this price includes everything it needs for the dress to fit perfectly. **SUGGESTION here for all the brides: have them write this promise down in email so you have a reference in the future (you will need it, because they LIE to get more money once you give them your dress).**
Long story short, my seamstress Lili was awful. She pretended to be nice throughout the fitting sessions, but was extremely fake and unprofessional. My dress is low back and strapless, so it really needs to be tailored correctly. Lili said it will be done in 2-3 fitting sessions, but it ended up taking over 7 sessions. The main reason? She WOULD NOT use a tape measure, and just casually pinned the dress for rough estimates, and of course in the next fitting sessions, the dress was always either WAY TOO TIGHT or WAY TOO LOOSE (falling without any movement but a few breathings). Pure waste of time. (We did the fitting sessions twice a week so there's not much time for me to gain or lose wight.). Finally during our last session, she decided that she needs to use a tape measure to get the exact size for take-in. What a surprise, the dress fits now. Wait for another surprise--she then gave me a bill, charging an extra $300 on top of the $750. I politely refused to pay extra, as this extra charge was NEVER DISCUSSED throughout the fitting sessions, let alone their original written promise that the $750 quote includes everything to make the dress fit. Lili the seamstress raged in anger and THREATENED ME THAT SHE WOULD UNDO THE ALTERATION IF I DON'T PAY THAT EXTRA $300.
Ladies, if you don't want to go through the extreme stress of risking your wedding gown being RUINED by them on purpose... less than 2 weeks prior to your big day, don't go there.
I truly had a perfect wedding dress shopping experience at Musette. I was working on a rather short (7 month) timeline and other bridal salons I went to really pressured me to make a quick decision. My experience at Musette was completely different than at any other bridal salons. The selection of dresses is extensive and the quality of the dresses they carry is top notch. I worked with Anna who was incredibly professional and made every effort to make dress shopping a personal and memorable experience. I really fell in love with one dress but was nervous to commit the day of my appointment. Anna assured me that I did not need to decide right then and that I should take a week to sleep on it and come back the following weekend to try it on again if I still felt like it was the right dress for me which I did and it was! Also the alterations department was amazing and make my dress look absolutely perfect on me! I could not have loved my overall experience with Musette any more!!!
Horrible experience at Musette Bridal. The sales associates got into an argument during the appointment. One of which proceeded to move my belongings from one room to the next. Even if I had found "the one" there, I wouldn't have purchased the dress there due to the extreme unprofessional behavior of staff.
If you are looking for a salon that is timely, accommodating, and has a range of price points, I strongly suggest you take a look at Musette. I tried on a number of options at a variety of stores, and was deciding between two. I called and asked if I could come in briefly to make my final choice and they fit me in in between appointments. When it came to alterations, they were great as well. I worked with Lily, and she helped craft the fabric in all the right changes so that it fit exactly how it should. She also helped me find the perfect hair piece!
They were friendly and helpful. They also gave me a good discount but I got an off the rack gown so I am not sure if they gave me a good one or just a normal one. Their tailor made the dress nice looking on my body in the end however on my wedding day I realized the hem of the dress was coming off somewhere. Thank god I went to Musette Bridal to put on the dress after my hairdresser appointment so they fixed it but it would be a disaster if this happened far from where they are.
I loved this place! From the moment you walk into this gorgeous bridal salon with a wall of gorgeous dresses, big windows, and wooden floor - it is hard not to get excited!! I was a total pain in the butt about getting a dress, and also super indecisive and Musette was awesome. They were never pushy, but rather totally patient and also supportive! The tailoring is amazing as well. The selection is amazing as well!
The employees were lovely - very helpful, encouraging, and accommodating. The alterations store upstairs is also great. They were able to squeeze in some extra fitting to make sure every aspect of the dress was what I wanted.
What a wonderful experience at this adorable little shop. Milena was fantastic from start to finish. I had tried on gowns during a girls trip to NYC at a store called Kleinfeld in the Big Apple, but Musette had more of what I was after. I admire the honesty at Musette. They're not going to tell me that whatever gown I'm lookign at looks perfect on me. They had a small selection of accessories but also offered amazing fashion-forward recommendations to consider with the gown that I purchased.
I planned a fun day dress shopping with my bridesmaids in Boston, not expecting to actually find my dress (at least not expecting to find something within my budget on Newbury Street). I had already looked in several wedding dress shops around the North Shore of MA, so I was starting to have an idea of pricing / what I wanted, by the time I had my appointment at Musette. I was so impressed with the beautiful selection of dresses at Musette and pleasantly surprised by the price range!
The ladies in the sales room were very nice & definitely have an eye for what dress style will work well on a bride-to-be. I believe it was the owner, Slawa Khoory, who pulled the dress I ended up buying. She totally understood the look I wanted in a dress & what style would look best on my body!
After purchasing the dress, I was really impressed with the A+ customer service we received from Lan in alterations. It was always a lot of fun to go in for fittings at Musette with Lan & she had great recommendations for the bustle, etc. We really appreciated her friendly expertise. The week of the wedding Lan was so accommodating, going above and beyond to schedule a final fitting time that would work within our busy week-of wedding schedule.
The entire experience with Musette was wonderful, I definitely recommend them to any Boston bride-to-be :)
Musette was great to work with the whole way. I am not from the area but my parents are still in MA so I went to Musette with my mom since they were having a trunk show for my favorite designer. I was shown a number of different dresses/styles in my price range and found the perfect dress (one of the dresses I had brought a picture of). Since this was the first dress I tried on I wanted to think about it before jumping into a decision and I never felt any pressure about that from Musette. After I purchased the dress I was able to set up alterations extremely easily. Because I was traveling, they were able to book my fittings on a Friday/Saturday of the same weekend and do alterations overnight at no additional charge, which is an amazing service that I 100% appreciated. The alterations were done beautifully and everything they suggested definitely added to the dress. I absolutely loved my dress and would definitely recommend Musette.
I don't think there is a lot more I need to say. The women who know they want a Yolan Cris already know how awesome they are. I relaxing yet emotional experience is what I had in here with my sister and mother. A+ for not having a pushy sales staff too. Love you ladies!
I had the best experience with finding the dress for my special day. Milena was a sweetheart! She listened to what I wanted style wise and budget. She pulled three dresses, and two of them were wonderful. One week later I went back to decide between the two. The right one chose me as I began to cry...and so did my mom. Her attention to detail and thoughtfulness were a breathe of fresh air. She noticed when fabric was making my skin turn pink from irritation on a dress I did not chose, and expressed concern. Her warmth and assistance helped make me feel like a Queen on my special day.
Musette is a very small bridal shop. It offers dresses starting at just under $2,000. I was very happy with my wedding dress. However, the staff and store were average. Staff is not super friendly. Also, there is additional ~$400 cost of tailoring (just for bustling and cutting dress down to the right length) that they don't tell you about up front (and you have to get your dress tailored there).
I bought my wedding dress from Musette Bridal Boutique. It was beautiful and everything I could ask for. My only complaint was the price of the dress and their services!
My dress could have been one of the biggest sources of stress for me, throughout the wedding process. This however, had nothing to do with Musette Bridal. If anything Musette, particularly Hillary and Loan made everything as easy as possible for me. I can honestly say at this boutique you get the attention and service every bride deserves. They are ready and willing to hear how they can make your dress the dress of your dreams. The boutique has a variety of designers, all of which are pretty 'high end.' The flexibility of the calendar is great too, which gets important towards the end of the fitting process.
Although all their dresses are absolutely stunning. I think they were very expensive. I'm pretty sure all the dresses were over 2k. I did end up buying one through them because I loved it so much. Their alterations are a bit expensive too. The seamstress added a button to my sash but made it too small so I had to just tie it. I was a bit irritated that she just eyeballed it for measuring.
I got my wedding dress @ Musette Bridal & had just a wonderful experience. For my first appointment I had a dress shipped up from NYC & they could not have been more accommodating. I tried on 7 different dresses & ended up going with one that the Dress Associate picked out for me (had just arrived that day! I was the first to try it on!) All of my fittings went very smoothly & Loen was just spectacular with all of the alterations! My final fitting turned out to be quite challenging because the fabric had decided to not cooperate, but Loen came to the rescue & was so dedicated to making my dress look perfect! Value was definitely there as well. Highly recommend!
After going shopping for my wedding gown over the course of four weekends, I fell in love with Musette Bridal. I was looking for something elegant and sophisticated that would work well for a winter wedding. The service wasn't pushy or snobby like it was at some of the other bridal boutiques we went to. I highly recommend taking a peek at Musette. You'll be pleasantly surprised.
nice selection of dresses, staff is friendly, a little pricy, but they have a good taste and variety of styles
(Note - I found my dress when the shop was still called L'elite, but by the time my alterations were finished, it was Musette, so I'm reviewing under that name.)
In sum... a beautiful selection of dresses, flawless and creative alterations, great service and flexible appointment times. And of course, the price tag to match.
I did a reasonable amount of shopping before I came to Musette, and I thought I had found a dress I wanted (but definitely didn't love) at a shop north of town. I knew it was a risk to come to a place on Newbury because of the prices, but we hoped they could find something in our range. We discovered that the top of our range was really the bottom of theirs - but I tried the dresses on anyway. Oh man. I had probably tried about 30+ dresses before I came in and found 2-3 that would sort of work... but the first 4 dresses I tried at Musette were ALL gorgeous. I would have worn and truly loved any one of them. Their Pronovias selection is great, and the other lines they carry are similarly high-quality and beautiful. The shopping experience was ideal - a warm, private space for us, very personalized 1-on-1 attention from staff, and an easy ordering process.
Alterations were also great - they let me come in as many times as I wanted (which turned out to be a lot!) and modified the dress exactly as I wanted. They even came up with a creative solution for my small bust, and the dress looked fantastic, plus the bustle held up all night. Many, many thanks to the alterations staff!
A final note on prices - they're high. I'm not sure you could get a dress with alterations for less than $2,000 here, much as it pains me to admit that. But you (hopefully) only wear one wedding gown, so maybe it's worth it!
