Is it May? Yes. Did we get married in March? Yes. Am I still thinking about the reception? Yes. Chris is a tried and true professional. Not only did he emcee an incredible dance party that had my best man and my grandma grooving, he emcee'd the whole event. He checked in multiple times throughout the hours leading up to the ceremony to make sure everything was going smoothly. The question I got asked the most throughout the whole wedding day was "Where did you find this DJ?" quickly followed by a "He will be DJ'ing our wedding!" Music Makes You Happy / Chris was such a key part of my wedding. From the great music, helping the night flow, and customer service that went above and beyond - they are the best!

We lost our original DJ to a scheduling conflict only 2 months before the date, but MMYH DJs picked up quickly and helped us create the most magical wedding! They are super flexible and very experienced - our DJ Ricky Perry met with us over the phone to review the plan, and had even been to our venue before, which helped a lot. Outdoor to indoor, ceremony to reception went without a hitch. He even helped with our choreographed first dance! Ricky kept the dance floor PACKED!!! Every guest told us afterwards that it was the most fun wedding they had ever been to, and a large part of that is thanks to this company! Highly recommend 100x over!

LaDel was more than we could ask for in a DJ! He was communicative and professional. Answered any questions I had throughout the process. Our dance floor was packed all night thanks for his great music selection. 10/10 would recommend!

Chris did our wedding this past weekend and this was an email I sent after. Could not recommend them enough! From the bottom of mine and April's hearts, we are truly grateful to have used you all for our wedding. You guys were truly on point, interactive, fun, and completely organized. I cannot say enough good things about Chris and his team at MMYH. I was told they'd go above and beyond and they really did! Chris made helpful suggestions for the music and for the flow of events throughout the day. He worked really well with our other vendors and made our wedding absolutely unforgettable. We owe Chris and his assistant a debt of gratitude. We had planned for one of our guests to record the ceremony from our phone and Chris's assistant offered to do it for us. Chris was hands down one of the best parts about our wedding day at the Historic Post Office. We hired him after attending a wedding that he was the DJ for in 2022, and he was even better than we expected at our own wedding. Communication was seamless from the start, and on top of the easy to use portals for curating playlists, he is so kind and thoughtful which added such a personal touch to our wedding. Chris went above and beyond to make sure that we were taken care of all night, and he was constantly checking on our bridal party and family members as well to make sure that we had everything we needed! Even our parents commented on how great Chris was at attending to all the guests needs. He kept the dance floor hopping, and our guests are still raving about it. We highly recommend Chris to anyone in the Hampton Roads area and we wouldn’t have wanted anyone else to DJ our wedding!

From day one, the communication, patience and attentiveness was spot on. Chris answered the thousands of questions I had with quick and informative responses and kept me comfortable and confident throughout the entire planning process. Shane was our DJ for the day of our wedding, and he was so much fun! We had three surprise choreographed dances throughout our wedding day and he managed to keep them all straight, flowing AND keep them secret! He also kept up with our multi-music walks up and down the aisle with ease. On top of everything, he kept the guests engaged and kept them DANCING! We had over 40 people on our little dance floor for a good portion of the night and everyone continued to tell us how much fun they had on the dance floor and in the photobooth (also provided by MMYH). All in all, our day was perfect, and Music Makes You Happy played a major part in that.

Music Make You Happy was hands down the best, and most perfect choice for our wedding. Our DJ, Chris, was professional and SO fun to work with! He took all of our special requests into consideration, which included: a dollar dance and a wedding mosh pit. Nearly all of our guests were up and dancing for the duration of the reception and every song he played for us was spot on to our tastes. He was able to even pull up and play songs that may not have been easy to find, just to be sure we had everything we wanted. Chris was professional, fun and made our night one to remember. We loved how organized he was, how he allowed us to share separate Spotify playlists with him for each part of our day and how seamlessly he announced things throughout the night. Chris was wonderful and we would highly recommend.

Chris was such an amazing DJ! Immediately after our ceremony he asked if he could get us drinks and food from the cocktail hour as we took pictures, he made sure we were well taken care of all night. He kept everyone on the dance floor the whole night. I highly recommend him as your DJ!

He kept the whole day moving and we didn't even need a planner or day of coordinator!!! The planning program was so easy to use and made is so easy to make our requests. Alan from Music Makes You Happy made our vision come to life. He worked so closely with us to ensure our personalities came through the music. Our guests were on the dance floor all night, and are still texting us about how awesome the music was. Alan also brought a full Photo Booth set up, and it exceeded my expectations. My venue had preferred vendors and the DJ's were one of them. I settled on Music Makes You Happy (MMYH) and 1 other DJ. I asked another vendor I was close with if she worked with either and she suggested MMYH. After speaking with them and looking at their packages again, I went with them and chose their All Nighter Package. It included up lights and a photo booth. Throughout the whole process, they made it super easy with their questionnaires. Our family and friends love to party so an amazing DJ was a must have. MMYH did not disappoint. Mike Dodson was our DJ and amazing to have as a part of my vendor team.

Chris Rice was our DJ from Music Makes You Happy. He called me prior to the wedding to ask me if there was anything I needed and to solidify the songs I wanted. When meeting him, he is super friendly and has a very calm demeanor. He came up to us occasionally throughout the night to ask questions as things came up, but it always seemed to be at all the right times. He even made sure that our drinks were filled during cocktail hour and taking pictures. He was really good with the crowd and made adjustments as needed. He came up and asked me if the anniversary song dance could be changed because an older couple requested it. The guests commented on how great the music was! Overall, 10/10 for me!

Wish we could give more stars! Chris was incredible for our wedding! He was very responsive and listened to all our requests. He made very helpful suggestions and provided an incredible atmosphere! He was super very reassuring when we thought our wedding was going to be hurricaned out! Our guests are still talking about how amazing he was!!! I could not recommend him enough!

HIGHLY recommend them!!! After my first phone conversation with Chris, I knew we would book them as our wedding DJ. Chris during all of our interactions was professional, honest, helpful and hilarious! On our big day he went through everything with me to make sure I knew what was happening and that we were on the same page. He stepped in to help dig up the bourbon (we COULD NOT find it lol!), he was making sure we had drinks the whole night, his timing and execution of everything was perfect. Chris was an amazing MC/DJ! In addition to putting together music that had our guests up and dancing he acted as an MC for our shenanigans and was so friendly and courteous throughout the entire process.

SHOUTOUT TO DJ MIKE DODSON!!!!!!! Mike DJ'ed our wedding this past weekend and it was a PARTY. The song choices were amazing, and Mike included both requests from our guests and also was able to read the room and choose music that had everyone on the dance floor. The music transition for our ceremonies was so smooth and went exactly as planned. What I really appreciated about Mike was the communication leading up to our wedding day. There were questionnaires, an online music portal, and phone calls made to ensure that our vision would come to life. You can tell that Mike cares about his clients and only produces the best work. Highly recommend this company!!!!!

We are beyond pleased with Chris Rice and Music Makes You Happy! Chris was a phenomenal deejay. From the moment the ceremony wrapped up, Chris hand brought my husband and I our drink of choice. He always made sure we had a drink in our hand and we absolutely loved this because neither of us had time to run to the bar for a drink and thanks to Chris we did not need to. Chris was on top of everything I had asked of him even with a few last minute changes, he nailed it. From smooth transitions before the grand entrance to the dances to the speeches. Chris also has an infectious energy about him. I received so many compliments from my guests about Chris. Chris was easy to work with from the start when my husband and I first reached out. We knew right away we wanted to work with him just off of our initial phone conversation. Also the system he uses to help his couples select the music playlists and do not playlist is easy and not time consuming at all. Chris kept the party going from start to finish! We loved how he made sure we were on the dance floor before he played our favorite songs. Chris is fun and energetic and everything we hoped we’d have in a deejay. We will always recommend Chris Rice and Music Makes You Happy.

If we could give 6 out of 5 stars, we would.... Chris at Music Makes You Happy Entertainment went above and beyond! You can tell they know what they are doing!!! From the beginning, we were giving access to questionnaires and a music portal to add song requests. All bases were covered and we had no worries going into our big day. Chris was professional, a great speaker, interacted and engaged our crowd, and even took care of our guests by bringing them drinks during cocktail hour. He could read the room and the music choices were on-point for our rowdy group. The sound systems were a such good quality and they worked so well with our other vendors to set everything up. YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH CHOOSING MUSIC MAKES YOU HAPPY!

We hired Chris for our June wedding and he made the entire wedding so easy on us. He was not only a DJ, but he made sure my husband and I were doing okay by checking in on us and asking us if we needed anything to eat or drink. He stayed by our side the entire wedding and went above and beyond.

We hired Chris for our wedding day in March and he is outstanding!! He had an amazing selection of songs for every part of the evening and our dance floor stayed busy the entire night! He also made sure to check in with the two of us throughout the night to get us drinks, snacks, etc. He was very personable and caring, which made me as a bride feel well looked after! He is fun, genuine, and made sure our night was one to remember!!

We hired Chris for our October wedding. It was helpful to communicate via phone call before the wedding to set forth what we were both about. The portal online to set up which music e had to have play, would like to have him play and what to avoid playing was very convenient. Let me tell you though, when it came to our wedding day...Chris was THE MAN. He was so kind and made himself fully available to myself & my husband, family & guests. He even escorted my elderly Grandfather back to our waiting area before we walked down the aisle. Chris was the first person to offer my Husband and I a drink, and was courteous enough to grab it and bring it right to our table. For a DJ, he went above and beyond on the service which (to me) shouldn't have fallen under his job duties. Chris did an excellent job on introductions, playing off our guest's speeches and setting the tone for dancing. I would like to say we had a "rambunctious" group of friends and family but Chris did just a great job reading the room and creating an experience all of us will never forget. I mean seriously, walking a 94 year old stranger back to a room when you didn't even have too?! I think that will always hold a special place in my heart, and showed the type of gentleman Chris really is. Friends, I'd give him a 10.

We had an amazing experience both working with Music Makes You Happy throughout the planning process and when it finally came time to celebrate our special day! They always maintained a positive attitude and went above and beyond to meet and even anticipate some of our needs. Planning a wedding during a pandemic was not always a pleasant experience, but Chris Rice and Music Makes You Happy worked with us through reschedules and stressful days and really helped make the experience as smooth and easy as possible. They were incredibly organized and supportive. When it came down to our event I couldn't be happier. Our DJ Alan made us both feel at ease and helped navigate our schedule to make our event flow perfectly. He even helped us organize a very last minute photographer addition to help make sure we got all the pictures we could possibly want! He was easy going, supportive, helpful, funny and kept the good music flowing all night! He truly was above and beyond. We really can't thank him and the entire Music Makes You Happy staff enough!

I cannot recommend Chris Rice enough! He is extremely professional, kind and fun! He made sure our entire day ran smoothly from start to finish. He played our ceremony music perfectly. I loved being able to use their online database to pick and choose what songs were 'must plays', which songs we would like to hear and which songs we did not want played. I seriously cannot recommend this company enough!! Chris Rice was the DJ/MC with Music Makes You Happy Entertainment that did our wedding and he was a BLAST! He gave us a pep-talk and walked us and our wedding party through the reception grand entrance, during photos he came over a few times to make sure my husband and I didn't need drinks or snacks, he kept us on track with timing of all the events we wanted to get done (cake cutting, bouquet toss, etc.), balanced the dance floor well keeping it full but giving break songs to breathe. He was so much fun and interacted with us and the guests just the right amount. Everyone leaving our wedding asked for his contact info because of how amazing he was! Seriously you're doing yourself and guests a favor by hiring this company!!

Working with Chris Rice at Music Makes You Happy Entertainment was a phenomenal experience! He is a true professional - kind, thoughtful, organized, and thorough. He is also very talented. He played our requested ceremony music perfectly. For the reception, he cultivated a wonderful mix of music that got everyone dancing, and he played every single song that we mentioned in advance. He even cued up a song that my mother mentioned during her toast and played a clip of it right at the end of the speech, which created a really special moment for us. Chris also helped the whole event run smoothly, acting as an emcee and consistently checking to make sure my husband and I were happy throughout the event. Chris was AWESOME at my daughter’s wedding! He kept us all on cue, kept the music going and the guests dancing - it was seamless! My daughter had warned prior to the wedding that their probably would not be much dancing because this was not a dancing crowd - Chris proved her wrong! Even the grandmother’s danced!! Throughout the whole process, he was patient and guided us through the process, making sure we covered all of the important points! During the event, he was kind and friendly, made sure all the guests were engaged and felt welcomed! I don't even know where to begin - Chris was AMAZING! We were so nervous to pick a DJ, but Chris immediately put my fears at ease. From our first phone call, he was fun yet professional. He helped my dad surprise me with a medley of our favorite songs for our first dance which was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the entire evening. He also created one hell of a party! I've never been to a wedding where so many people were up and dancing the ENTIRE night! He expertly created a playlist that appealed to the entire crowd. WORTH EVERY PENNY! Recommend him without a doubt. He went above and beyond what he was required to even do. Chris was very friendly and honestly an overall blast to work with. He came and set up the day before at the venue. The day of, he was there early. He came to check on us multiple times to make sure we had everything we needed and made sure that everything was going as smooth as possible. Every request I made, he did. I’m super grateful for everything he did at my wedding and he made it absolutely perfect. Both him and his tech were willing to stay all night and make sure we were having a blast. We had multiple date changes due to Covid, the last change was only 2 days before the wedding but Chris was there without a problem. I had little time to organize things but he nailed it for me. He was also one of the few people to consistently check in on me and make sure I was doing okay. The music and lighting was beautiful. Everything went smooth and I had many compliments. Thank you for making our day a less stressful and our night a blast Chris. 100% recommend.

Chris truly lives out the name of his company and you will be happy booking him! He was super flexible and was even able to change the original date we had due to COVID. We even changed venue and size of the event to just a backyard wedding with close family and friends. He took that all in stride and provided us with his expertise. Chris provided a great wedding atmosphere and music, he was a phenomenal master of ceremonies having everything right on cue and helping with the flow of the wedding. Chris even helped set up before and during the wedding! Chris truly was amazing and you will not regret booking him!

Chris was our amazing DJ! He went above and beyond with every detail about our wedding! Not only was he incredibly flexible with us considering COVID-19, and we booked with him under 90 days before our venue, he never made us feel rushed or pressured. All of his worksheets online helped prompt us to think of certain details throughout the reception and ceremony that we didn’t even know was an option. Chris was familiar with our venue at The Barns of Kanak, but he added his own personal touch the entire wedding. He had our officiant miccced up and ready to go very smoothly, he checked on us , the bride and groom during the reception many times for drinks or anything we could need. To top everything off, we ended up changing the “grand exit” time last minute to accommodate our guests going home early. So Chris announces the next song to play will be the last song before the exit, and our guests are enjoying the song but no ones really at the dance floor. Chris cuts the music, brings us, the bride and groom out in the middle of the dance floor, and has everyone circle us and asks everyone to sing at the top of their lungs to “Don't stop believing”! It was such a special and fun way to get everyone together one last time before we made our exit! Having that memory of all of our friends and family smiling at us and singing and raising their hands is something I have forever now. We really couldn’t have asked for more, and will ALWAYS, highly recommend this DJ company before any other!

Ladel was my DJ, and he was AMAZING!! He was super helpful, and knew exactly what music that I would like based upon what I picked. I got lots of compliments on my music, and how it was very "ME". I would definitely recommend him!

Chris Rice was the perfect fit for our wedding and was a key player in making the day come together. He was the ideal balance of fun and meticulous, not to mention his radio voice! He understood how to entertain a crowd and how to deliver the experience we desired our guests to have. He did both the sound for our ceremony and reception, and was able to take a sampling of music we gave him to come up with a full playlist of songs that fit us. Chris made himself available every time we had questions or wanted help finding the perfect song for part of our day. He also had an excellent understanding of wedding timelines and helped us tremendously as we figured out what we wanted our day to look like. He was responsible and professional every step of the way. He was even committed to keeping our secrets! The bride wanted her first dance and father/daughter dance songs to be a surprise for her. She also planned to surprise her mother with a special dance between the two of them. Chris managed to keep all these secrets without forgetting any other important details throughout the day. We were pleased to be able to work with the owner of this company directly, and after our experience with him, I’d recommend his business to anyone. If he puts as much thought and care into his company as he did our wedding, then I would vouch for any DJ that he makes part of his team.

Chris was an absolute dream to be our DJ/MC. He went above and beyond to be the host of the night, keeping our guests informed of the reception timeline. He is incredible at feeling out the crowd and playing the perfect song at exactly the right time. He also was awesome to work with leading up to the wedding - laid back, open to unique requests, giving advice on what works well and what doesn't, etc. I also did not have a wedding coordinator and did not need one with Chris. He orchestrated everything at our cocktail hour and reception beautifully and we couldn't for anyone more perfect for the job. I've had multiple guests asking for his information for upcoming events their hosting because he was "the best DJ they had ever seen." HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Chris did a phenomenal job. He was very open to our ideas and input as well as guest requests during cocktail hour and the reception. His ability to work a room and make sure the dance floor was full at all times was amazing. He was very professional and laid back. He was very accommodating toward myself and my groom, checking in with us throughout the night. If you have a wedding planner, they won’t have much to do once the receptions starts and Chris takes control. We couldn’t have asked for a better DJ!

Our wedding was on June 16, 2018 and Tyler from Music Makes You Happy was great!! He was really friendly from our very first phone call meeting. My new husband and I had really busy schedules so Tyler was open to discussing all of the details over the phone to cater to our needs. He was flexible in his availability to talk to us which was helpful. As the wedding got closer, Tyler helped provide music choice suggestions as well as help plan the reception schedule. This was incredibly helpful as I had no idea how to plan for the timing of the reception!! I would recommend this dj company for future weddings! :)

I am so happy I chose Music Makes you Happy. We chose Chris as our wedding DJ. He was there whenever I had a question during planning. Chris was the best DJ I have ever met. For the ceremony I wanted to hire a pianist but that wasn’t going to fit in our budget. Instead I chose a piano cover of 2 songs for the outside ceremony, they sounded great even with the windy day. I didn’t have to worry about where they set up or anything they didn’t come to me with or family with too many questions. To me this shows experience. The last thing you want that day is to worry about directing the vendors around. Throughout the day he was making sure we were taken care of. Normally after the ceremony the bridal party gives up their duties thinking we no longer need help, but unfortunately as the bride/groom when you need something you cannot simply leave during pictures, or dinner. All I had to do was look at him and he was right there asking what I need. During pictures he offered to get us drinks. During dinner he ordered us drinks for the bar and before speeches I realized we had not gotten champagne, he came over popped it and poured us all a glass. He was quick to make last minute song changes or special dance request. We chose to add a dance for who has been married the longest, once we got down to two couples he asked them both to give us some advice which so thoughtful. I didn’t pick many songs that I wanted played just because I didn’t have time. He could easily read the crowd and keep playing songs they liked. Everyone complimented how great our DJ was and said they had a blast at the wedding.

We are so happy we picked Music Makes You Happy for our reception! Chris was great to work with, and he went above and beyond to make sure everyone was having a great time. He was great throughout the planning process, and the online portal was a great tool to make sure that our favorite songs were played at our event. I highly recommend Chris and his team!

It’s intimidating picking a DJ for your wedding. You can read reviews but it’s hard to pick without something tangible to compare to other vendors. Everyone is different and dancing was important to us for our wedding ceremony. Music Makes You Happy was one of the best choices we could have made. Not only are they extremely friendly and helpful to work with but they have an online account for each of their clients so you can guide the direction of the music. You fill out a little questionnaire where you share bits about what types of music you like and what you’re looking for from the wedding reception and then you can get started picking songs! They have a massive selection (including top 100 most popular wedding songs in different genres) and if you want to hear a song that they don’t have, just request it and they can track it down for you! Most importantly they have a “Do Not Play” list so you can avoid any songs that get on your nerves (even if a family member requests it!) We have a dancing crowd and our DJ Brad kept everyone on the floor for over 3 hours! If dancing is important to you and you don’t want a dud DJ killing the wedding buzz then Music Makes You Happy is for you.

We relied on our DJ to run the entire reception -- he did an INCREDIBLE job! He was extremely dedicated and spent a TON of time answering my questions. He is invested in the persona experience and goes out of his way to make you feel important. His technology was also perfect for planning!

A lot of the music was music we didn't pick and some of the important songs including the party entrance and my father daughter dance was the incorrect.From the start he was unprepared. He didn't have the proper equipment. Continuously mispronounced my first name and didn't know our last name. It felt very thrown together and unprepared. Possibly he can arrive on time or even earlier to future events to diffuse this situation or issues that he is not aware of. He seemed very disorganized and frantic and announced different events throughout the wedding prematurely which led to confusion of the guests.

Matt was the perfect Dj. He is A longtime family friend of ours and he was there every step of the way to make our wedding day flow effortlessly. He worked with me on specific playlists and songs that I wanted to play as well as songs I did not want to play. He also provided up lighting to give the room an extra pop of elegant color. He is truly passionate about his job and love for music and people. He really captured the essence that we wanted for our laid back beachy ceremony but then cranked up the dance music for the remainder of the reception with a wide variety of genres. Would highly suggest using this company! You won't be disappointed!!

Chris & Matt at Music Makes You Happy were simply amazing. I will never be able to thank them enough. If you are looking to have a unique, personalized, and really fun wedding, these are your guys!! First of all, their personalized, online event planning website made it super easy to request songs and let them know about special requests, event timeline, etc. Matt was simply amazing as our DJ. I cannot give him enough praise. First of all, he was a great MC, letting everyone know what was going on and helped keep us on track as well without being obtrusive or cheesey. He really appreciated our taste in music and understood perfectly the type wedding reception we wanted. I cannot tell you the number of our guests that requested his playlist for our reception. Everyone, young & old were up on the dance floor all night. If you are having an event in the area & don't hire Matt & Chris, you are really missing out!!

We had met with a few DJs and were worried we wouldn't be able to afford the quality we wanted. Till we met Chris Rice. This man is awesome at very level. We all clicked and he was priced great for what we were going to be getting. The day of the wedding he was interactive, he respected all of our wishes and do not play list. He helped us tame our family and just stayed on top of everything he needed to so I never thought once about the music. I highly recommend them and would happily use them again! He is worth the money!

There is no way to describe how truly awesome Chris & Matt are. They are so helpful right from the start & they want to be as involved as you need them to be. Matt was the DJ for our wedding & he was outstanding. He was attentive to all of our tastes and interests, and he used them to create a personalized, unique playlist that fit our style better than I ever could have expected! He was gracious to our guests, and he could not have been more wonderful to us. If you want a DJ that isn't a cliche, and really cares about you as a couple than look no further!

Amazing does not even begin to describe Chris. Amazing DJ, and plays amazing mixes based on your tastes. He helped so much with the planning and timing of events, truly made our day perfect. We also got the photo booth which was amazing he was beyond helpful. The photo booth was a hit. Chris also helped with our Tuxedo orders, and everything was perfect. We had so many people in the bridal party come up and compliment him, as well as other guests attending the wedding. Thank you so much Chris, you are awesome.

Chris was truly the best to work with! He is very quick to respond to any inquiries and called multiple times during the planning process to discuss plans for the wedding day. He also provides a really helpful personal online account that you can update throughout the planning process--request songs and write down key names, song choices, etc so it is kept in one place. He was wonderful on my big day and made our reception a memorable event! It was really a relief to have him there because I wasn't sure what kind of music to play; I had so many different age ranges present at my wedding and wasn't able to think of music that would make everyone happy. But Chris went around to introduce himself to all my guests during cocktail hour to get a feeling for the kind of music they liked and to take requests. Everybody loved him, had a blast, and danced the whole night, even my father! And the additional photo booth was worth every penny; it was a big hit among all my guests. I highly recommend Chris. He made our special day truly perfect.
