Steve is an uptight rude pompous ass. Stay away from Music Mix of La Crosse. We hired them for our daughter’s wedding. There is no organization he doesn’t answer phone calls texts or emails. Tells us we’re crazy he’s been doing this for 35 years. Like who has customers hire you on a website. It’s all shady and cheap. He dresses very unprofessional. Was creepy with every female guests. Especially the young ones I would never recommend him. After investigating Steve Ruoff (his real name) goes by Steve Michaels on Facebook and everywhere else come find out his brother Paul Ruoff was arrested for exposing himself outside in public broad day light with women’s undergarments in his truck google La Crosse tribune. Disgusting. Must be genetic Legally I cannot say what charges are being investigated. Old man is very very gross. It was a nightmare

We had Kelly do our wedding and ceremony and he was awesome! He arrived on time, was ready to go and timed all of the music the entire day perfectly. He did a great job playing exactly what we wanted and kept the energy level high throughout the evening. We even had a lot of guess tell us how great he was. I definitely would recommend Kelly and Steve to anyone needing a DJ.

We had Music Mix of LaCrosse provide music for our ceremony and reception. Steve did an amazing job from start to finish and we couldn't be happier. The dance floor stayed full and even the older crowd was joining in. Thank you so much for making our special day that much better.

Steve was absolutely amazing!! The dance floor was never empty. He even played some German cds my parents brought. Such a champ! He definitely did a great job to help us have a great wedding and ring in the new year!

It was fantastic! The dance floor was always moving, they played our favorite songs. Great way to finish our fantastic day!

Music Mix did a great job for my wedding. They were responsive to my questions and available. They followed up to get a list of songs to play from me, and they played those songs perfectly throughout the night. They were good at judging the crowd and tolerant of the "goofballs" that were at my wedding.

I am very disappointed in the service I received with this company. Although the DJ that performed at my wedding did a phenomenal job, I would not recommend this company. From my understanding, the owner signs a contract with you and does not let you know who your DJ is, or allow you to communicate with your DJ until the week of your wedding. I knew this in the beginning, but I had specific questions and requests (speakers, announcements, etc.) I e-mailed to the owner, assuming he would answer my questions and pass that information on to the DJ. He was not good with communication: he would not answer my calls, texts, or e-mails, and he did not pass on all of my information to the DJ. Two weeks before the wedding he wrote back to me unsure of who I was. This was very concerning because I had communicated with him so much, signed a contract, and given him a down payment. I had asked for speakers for my ceremony, he said they would be available. He said I could work through the details with the DJ the week of my wedding. I specifically asked him if the connection with the DJ could be made sooner in the week, as I was moving out of town and buying a house two days before the wedding. I met with the owner in person that week to drop off the final payment. He was very condescending and patronizing. He said he doesn’t like to work with detailed brides because he’s been doing this for 35 years and all he has to do is show up. It was 3 days before the wedding when the owner gave his DJ my contact information so we could finally connect. Once we connected, the DJ told me the speaker situation was much more involved, and not something that the company offers, despite the owners assurances it was possible, AND my additional payment for that service. Despite that, the DJ was great, went above and beyond to make the evening wonderful, and she was successful. Based on my experience it is not worth your time and effort to work with this company. The DJ, Tammy Graf Kolen, was absolutely wonderful, and I would recommend her if she would perform independently.

Everyone knows it's the music that can make or break your reception. Nearly ALL of our guests told us how much fun they were having all night long and how the music selection was great! Now, I will say, I did give my DJ a pretty detailed list of what I wanted to hear and what I didn't which I think helped a lot. But they listened! So that's always helpful too! Highly recommend these guys!!

Tammy did a wonderful job! She kept the dance floor packed all night :) She is very organized and easy to work with. I received so many compliments from my guests. Thanks Tammy!

I just have to say, Steve kept the place moving. It was so great to see all the different generations so happy and engaged. Highly recommended.

We were bummed when we found out our first DJ would not be able to attend with only 2 weeks notice. However, he did send an awesome DJ to fill his place. It caused a little extra stress but turned out working out okay in the end.

We had Tammy Graf as our DJ and she was wonderful! She played great music and the dance floor was full until the bitter end. She also let me add more time at the end of the night which everyone enjoyed. Many of our family, wedding party and guests made comments about how awesome Tammy was and that the music was great!. The only reason I did not give the company a perfect 5 Star was because communication is not always the best but the job got done. Tammy went above and beyond in so many ways, I would recommend her for every party you have!

We had Kelly Wilde DJ our wedding and it was absolute perfection. We were able to give him our list of songs that we 100% wanted and he played every single one! He took requests from the guests and really catered the dance to our taste! He even got on the floor, was dancing with us, and did some serious lip syncing too! It was an awesome experience from booking, to communication, to the day of!

My husband and I got married 11/11/2017 at Celebrations on the River in La Crosse, WI. I would not recommend this company because it is very expensive, and they are hard to get a hold of via phone and email. Our DJ was running on no sleep because he told us he had been DJing for the last two nights in a row all over Wisconsin so thats why some things went wrong? There was something wrong with the Father Daughter song, so my dad had to stop dancing with me, and go up to the DJ, and tell him to stop playing that song and fix it. Also, the grand march song was played very quietly, and the DJ did not announce anything all night except for the few times we went up to him and said, "Its dinner time or get everyone outside for sparklers." We even gave him a list of all the days events and what time they were happening for announcing purposes. The DJ himself was named Brett and he was a very nice guy though. He tried to fix things right away as they didn't go perfectly as planned, but I feel that he could have been more prepared and rested for our big day.

Apparently this company cares more about stealing your money then making your wedding night memorable. These guys were absolutely aweful. Let me tell you what I payed $1000 for. First off 2 days before the wedding I’m informed that Lights are not included in the $1000 package just some crappy quality speakers and a DJ that doesn’t know a thing about djing. Speakers were low quality and sounded like crap. $50 up charge for a bad light show most DJs include that stuff. He messed up my friends slide show because music wouldn’t play. We sat around waiting after the bride and grooms first dance waiting because he forgot about the daughter father dance. He completely forgot about the mother son dance, wedding tricks and the shoe game that we requested. On top of that none of the music flowed the whole night. Which meant the dance floor was empty at best. He was more interested in mixing his music then anything, which sucked as well.He had no personality. The set up was more like one that you see at a bar when they hire a god to come play music. Very unprofessional look for a wedding. Do your self a favor and stay away from these guys. I completely feel that they ruined my friends wedding. When the bride is crying at her own wedding there is something wrong. It was a very bad vibe all night and I 100% believe it’s all their fault. Do yourself a favor and save your money. Your better off paying my 7 year old son to bring his iPod to play music for your wedding. Worst wedding I’ve every been too.

I should have known to book another vendor after the management team felt it necessary to include in their email "FYI gratuity for your DJ is not included." This is an unspoken thing, and I was appalled that they had asked for a tip not once but TWICE in their emails. Very unprofessional. They also would not tell us what the discount for Military service was even though it was advertised on their website. They just became seemingly irritated that we were asking and continued to tell us we were getting a better price for booking at the Bridal Show - seemed Fishy. When we had booked at the Bridal Show in La Crosse; we had requested a certain DJ. He wrote it on the contract and told us he would be there. He was not there the day of our wedding. The management/office is also poor. They take days if not weeks to email you back. I noticed that another Knot review had the same complaint - we had emailed our song list and did not hear back from management if they had received it or not. It left us wondering if our DJ was even going to show up the day of the wedding. The only thing they did right was play the songs I had requested; however, a DJ should offer more services than just songs. They really dropped the ball when it came to announcing. The only thing they announced was the Grand March. After that my mother missed the father daughter dance because it was not announced. We also had multiple guests state that they had missed the cake cutting, first dance, bouquet, and garter toss due to the DJ not announcing anything. If I wanted someone to just pay music - I would have saved money by plugging in an Ipod. Steer clear of this vendor.

Unfortunately I was under impressed with our DJ. He played all of the songs we had requested in the beginning of the dance. There was not a good flow to the dance music he played either. He also needed a lot of direction from me as far as when to do what and I don't feel like I should have had to do that as I was the bride. There was also a giant lack of communication on their part. I would email them and it would take days if not weeks for them to respond. The sound system quality was not great either and the DJ did not seem to make adjustments when the quality was not good. I still had a good time and so did my guests, but I feel there was a lot left to be desired from the DJ.

First: Our DJ, Alec, was absolutely AMAZING. If I could rate Alec alone, this company would receive 5/5 for sure. He was incredibly responsive, flexible, and helpful during the entire day. Alec stuck to the play and no play list while being prompt with other song requests. He had new and popular songs that all of my wedding guests loved! He truly went above and beyond to make our guests + my husband and I happy. THANK YOU ALEC! Second: The reason why my overall review is only a 3/5 is because of the management team -- there is some serious room for improvement in this area. (1) Their response time is absolutely pathetic to say the least. When my husband emailed in regards to sending our day-of-schedule and to share our song lists we didn't hear from the company for over a week. When they did respond they stated that our song list was past-due when we had requested a response with plenty of time to spare. We also emailed them when our wedding plan changed from being inside to outside (so they could prepare and bring additional equipment, etc.) to which they NEVER responded. We were literally wondering if a DJ would even show up for our big day. In the year + from when we booked to our wedding day they probably responded to our emails twice. Not impressed. My suggestion: Give the bride and groom direct contact with the DJ working their event. (2) DJ requests are not honored so don't bother to record it on the sheet. We had requested a family friend, Kelly Wilde, to be our DJ, he had agreed and added us to his event calendar. A week or two before our wedding management emails to tell us he has been booked for another event and would no longer honor our request. Bummer. As stated above though, Alec was amazing so no worries in the end! My suggestion, if you book this company choose Alec or Kelly to be your DJ. Give them a big personal tip, and forget about the management!

Music mix of La Crosse was very affordable and did an amazing job at my wedding. They asked for certain songs you want played and even called me a few days prior just to go over any finer details with me which was very nice. Highly recommend them! They also did my brothers wedding 10 years ago and did a great job then!

Giavanni was our DJ for our wedding. Our guests said they really liked the DJ and the music. However, I requested that group dances were not to be played. And he played two-the Macarena and the Cupids Shuffle. He said a guest requested the Cupids Shuffle but I specifically told him not to play that song. Not sure how guest request beats bride's request. The low rating is for that reason. I was extremely upset he played a song I told him not to Our guests really enjoyed the music he played and thought he did a good job though. to.

Kelly Wilde was our DJ for our wedding and he was fantastic! He kept everyone dancing all night long and checked in with the groom and I multiple times to make sure everywhere was going well. He was very personable and professional. We were very impressed and would definitely recommended!

As father if the bride, on behalf of everyone in attendance, I want to commend our dj Saul for being nothing less than amazing. He was very good at keeping our guests dancing and honored special requests as needed. Very polite, professional and attentive... I highly recommend him. Thank you for making a special day more special!!!

We had Kelly Wilde for a 80s themed birthday party, it went well! Thanks to Kelly, he played the top hits from that era and also played crowd requests. Kelly was very personable and well liked by all. Thanks Kelly hope to see you again in the future at one of our family events!

We had Tammy as a DJ and the dance floor was never empty! She was so personable and cared about our night. Our guests absolutely loved her and the music she played. I was happy with the DJ, system, and the uplighting.

Music Mix of La Crosse was my number one choice for a wedding DJ, hands down. Even though our wedding was in Poynette, WI (2 hours from La Crosse), they were more than willing to travel to my venue. I worked with Steve Michaels, the owner, in the weeks leading up to the wedding. He was very professional and accommodating to my requests. Responses were prompt, and he was very clear about the information that they needed. Kelly Wilde was our DJ for the big day, and I have nothing but good things to say about him!! I enjoy some obscure music, and Kelly went above and beyond to make sure he was prepared and had the correct tracks that I wanted. He showed up early, was very friendly, and made sure my soloist was equipped with a microphone for the ceremony. The music for the ceremony was flawless, and the dinner music was lighthearted and classic. When it came time for the dance, the floor was packed all night! I hate going to weddings where nobody dances, and I wanted to be sure that wasn't the case at my wedding. Kelly made my dream come to life! Everyone had a blast, and I got many compliments on how fantastic the music was. If you want a professional DJ who is knowledgable about music, speaks well in front of crowds, and keeps the party going all night then Music Mix is the way to go!!!! I can honestly say you will not be disappointed, because they made my dream wedding a reality.

Our DJ was AWESOME for our outdoor wedding! They provided just the right amount of lighting and sound, as well as professional dress and a very simple set-up! He was very personable and was a guest favorite! The staff and owner are very lovely people to work with.

We gave our list to the DJ with specific requests of what to play and not to play. Did a great job with variety throughout the night to keep the dance floor full. Made it a point to listen to people's requests, and actually played them, this is important. Very reasonable in price and included dinner music. Very happy with our decision.

We used Music Mix of La Crosse and had Kelley Wilde as our DJ. He was great! Came to check in with us and make sure he had our list right, added any last minute songs that we wanted, and got really into the music he played! Really friendly atmosphere! At one point my husband, brother-in-law, and friend were dancing so crazy that they made the DJ cry from laughing so hard! It was great to see someone enjoy their job that much! We heard of Music Mix at a wedding show and were able to get a discount. They played our dinner music and reception music.

Music Mix was absolutely PHENOMENAL for our big day! We were lucky enough to have Steve and he definitely knows what he's doing - not surprising he owns a DJ business! We even forgot to send our "must play/do not play" list on time with everything we had going on and they were more than understanding when we sent it right away once they brought it to our attention! The day of, Steve played all the right music at all the right times (older songs for the older crowd early on and more modern music for the younger crowd later on) and really played off the vibes from the crowd. He played ALL of our requests and made the bouquet/garter tosses fun and lively! Absolutely perfect night and the music made it easy to keep the party going non-stop ! Thank you Music Mix and Steve - you did an absolutely phenomenal job and we had so many positive comments on the music, overall vibe, and the beautiful uplighting! We certainly recommend Music Mix to anyone who wants a fun/attentive DJ for your big day!

They are a little difficult to reach as mos, if not all, staff only do this on the side. Be prepared that it make take a day or two for them to get back to you regarding questions/issues. That said, they are wonderful. Our DJ Sarah could not have done a better job. The dance floor was NEVER empty. We adored her!

We had asked them to play a certain song close to the begining of the dance because it was the one song that my grandma LOVES and the only one that she will dance to at the whole wedding its like a tradition. about midway though the dance we had asked the dj why he hadnt played it yet and he said oh it doesnt really go with what im doing right now so i was going to skip it. my groom says NO we want you to play it now my grandma is leaving soon. and the dj still doesnt want to play it finally my groom pulled the "groom" card and he finally played it. We were just disappointing that our one and only request wasnt met when we wanted it to

Ok, somewhat absent from dance

I had worked a lot of weddings as a caterer at my venue and had known which DJ from Music Mix of La Crosse I wanted. So, when I booked the DJ I requested the specific DJ that I knew would be the best about a year in advance! However, about a week prior to the wedding, they called me and told me that he was unavailable because he was on vacation! They said they would have a different DJ there instead. There was nothing I could do about it at that point, so that was just going to have to do. When it came to the day of the wedding the new DJ did a great job and people were dancing all night!

We had our wedding in La Crosse this year and hired Music Mix. Heard lots of great things about them! Steve (owner) was great to talk to and really understood what we wanted musically for the reception. He was late to the reception! We talked about having him there for cocktails and he showed up 2 hours late! BARELY in time for our grand march! He was rude about it to me (the bride!) throughout the night. Also insisted that my sparkler idea wasn't good because "everyone will just leave when you do and I'll be playing music for another hour for no one." Joke was on him because EVERYONE stayed until the music stopped! Overall, he played great music and the guests loved the selection. He was rude, and late. But I would recommend confirming with him MULTIPLE times what you are looking for to get what you want... and have a DJ on time!

They didn't play all the music I requested and were late to set up. Then they played my wedding song during the dollar dance. So instead of dancing with my husband I ended up dancing with guests which disappointed me.

We booked Music Mix of La Crosse because I have known their DJ Brittany Stylez (local Z93 DJ) for years. She was absolutely wonderful. She played every song on our must-play list, respected our do-not-play list, and played great wedding dance songs for everything in between. They were even able to find the obscure song I wanted for my Father-Daughter Dance. The company itself was easy to book too, a simple contract and a discounted rate if you pay in full upfront. We decided about 1 month before the wedding that we wanted to add on another hour to the contract, and they were great about it. Highly Recommended!

The dance floor was not empty a single time the whole night!

I think our biggest mistake here was not meeting with the DJ before the wedding. We were comfortable with that, gave him our lists and thought we were good to go. The only problem is, I felt like he had a schedule of events in mind but neglected to tell us. He just kind of stood in the corner and waited to be told what to do but then when we told him we were going to start our grand march in 10 minutes he made us feel bad, like we should have done it hours ago. Had he told us that earlier, we would have gone ahead and done it. The other thing we didn't like is that he announced that the song was for my husband and I every time he played something from our 'do play' list, which then caused our guests to clear the dance floor so we could have a husband and wife dance. That wasn't our intention at all and they weren't even slow songs so it just became awkward for us. Otherwise, he did keep our guests entertained and having a good time :)

The owner of the company showed up to our very formal wedding at The Waterfront in jeans and a polo shirt. (He has played at this location numerous times, so he knows it is a formal venue.) For the bride & groom's entrance he did not play the correct portion song we requested, so it was very boring introduction. (Sent this information in a few weeks before the wedding) Moving on, the dance floor was filled all night. If you want some slower songs you'll have to request them.

We even had relatives that we've never seen dance at any wedding, out on the dance floor and they still talk about it! We loved that Steve incorporated our music requests and guest music ... Good at playing requests, but not so great at getting the party started, for some reason started off with 50s music?? Also didn't really say much, and kept ducking outside.

Our DJ was awesome!! He really interacted with the crowd and everyone had a blast. Highly recommended!!!

our dj was great! He was able to get everyone on the dance floor right away and everyone had a great time. The only bad thing was that he played a few songs that were on our "do not play list." it wasn't that big of a deal, but we gave that list to them for a reason. But, overall, they were great!

I think that if we would have had a different DJ, things would have went better. He didn't have lights, and he said "Well, nobody told me to bring them." He left the stand and the music started skipping. A relative had to step up and fix it. He wasn't as organized as we would have liked. But in the end, the music list that we requested was mostly followed through on, and everybody still had a good time.

My husband and I have a very unique taste in music, and Music Mix was able to find every song on our must play list, and they played them all! Kelly Wilde was our DJ and he was a blast! He had all of the guests on the dance floor until the last song at the end. Great choice!

My DJ was a really nice guy.. but he did not interact with the crowd. Just played the music and hung out. I was also informed later that he was on Facebook a majority of the night. Our first dance song was clearly not tested after being downloaded and it morphed into "express Yourself" half way through :(

What a awesome job they provided from being set-up the night before to playing all our favorites. I REAL valve for the buck!
